Laboratory Manual for Immunology is a practical and hands-on manual designed to support undergraduate teaching and laboratory training in immunology. The book has been prepared in the context of the ICAR 6th Dean Committee recommendations and the revised B.Tech. Biotechnology curriculum, in which Immunology is offered during the third year. It provides students with fundamental practical knowledge of immunological procedures, laboratory techniques and serological reactions.The manual begins with essential laboratory procedures, including handling of experimental laboratory animals, methods of inoculation and blood collection, followed by the preparation of bacterin for raising polyclonal serum. It then progresses to important concepts and practical techniques involving antigen–antibody interactions, agglutination reactions, precipitation reactions, agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), radial immunodiffusion (RID), ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and radioimmunoassay.
The book also connects laboratory techniques with their diagnostic and research applications, including detection of antibodies and antigens, diagnosis of infectious diseases, identification and classification of microorganisms, and quantitative estimation of antigen or antibody concentrations.
