Gender Sensitisation, Society, Culture and Change

This online course offers a comprehensive foundation in Gender Studies, specially designed for students of agricultural universities. While covering theoretical and conceptual frameworks such as patriarchy, masculinities, feminism, and gender-based violence, it applies these insights to critical issues affecting rural communities—especially in farming systems, health, employment, and access to technology.

With an interdisciplinary and applied lens, students will examine how gender roles and identities influence access to resources, labor patterns, policy impacts, and empowerment pathways in rural India. The course brings a strong focus on real-life challenges and solutions—from interviewing rural women farmers to understanding the gendered impacts of climate change and food security policies.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Define and differentiate between key gender concepts including sex, gender, patriarchy, and masculinity.
  2. Analyze how societal structures shape gendered roles in family, work, health, and legal domains.
  3. Examine how gender norms intersect with rural development, agriculture, and technology access.
  4. Evaluate gender-sensitive approaches in policy and development interventions.
  5. Design gender-inclusive strategies and propose policy or media-based solutions to address inequality.
