Modern civilization could not exist without agriculture. With shrinking area of cultivable land and to feed the burgeoning human population, the production of agriculture and horticultural commodities has to be increased, reducing their loss due to various factors. Losses attributed to microbial plant pathogens are quite substantial. Their loss would certainly amount to hundreds of crores of rupees annually. Hence there is an imperative need to develop effective system for managing the diseases and to disseminate the information to the cultivators on the method of protecting the corps and reducing the incidence of diseases which have the potential for destroying the crop at different stages of growth.
