6.1 Age

Age is one of the most important risk factors for developing mammary tumors in dogs. A comprehensive study carried on dogs has found that the risk of mammary tumors become significant by 8 years of age and increases linearly thereafter. The age of onset of tumors, however, may vary depending on the life span of the dog breed. An average age of CMT onset is 8-11 years, indicating as a condition of the middle-aged or older dogs. Mammary tumors are generally rare in dogs under 3 years of age, unless the dogs have been given exogenous hormones such as progestins

6.2 Breed

Most consistently listed breeds in which mammary tumor occur include, English springer spaniel, Brittany, Cocker spaniel, English setter, Pointer, Afghan hound and German shepherd, in addition to the smaller breeds such as Poodle, Maltese, Chihuahua, Beagle, Dachshund and Terriers. These studies clearly show that the risk for mammary tumors has some breed association and, therefore, having a genetic component. Pure breeds of dogs are generally at a greater risk i.e., known to account for 80% of the submitted cases. Some studies have further shown that certain lines within specific breeds are at more risk than others.

Preparation of Patient for General Anesthesia
    1.    Check for feeding status of animal : Dogs should be kept off feed and off water 8-12 hours ruminants 24-48 hours, and horses 12-24 hours before surgery.

Growing population, rapid urbanization and changing climate have created a global challenge to meet the food and nutritional needs. Protected cultivation is unique and specialized form of agriculture. Protected or greenhouse cultivation of vegetables is one of the means for clean vegetable production in peri-urban areas. The protected cultivation facilitates year-round production of high- quality produce with minimum labour and irrigation water, and almost wards off pest problem. In peri-urban regions, where climate prevents or does not favour year-round production of crops in open field, vegetable production can be taken up in protected environment. Introduction

Green nanotechnology includes a range of processes that reduce or eliminate toxic substances to restore environment. Microorganisms like fungi and bacteria having naturally bestowed property of reducing and oxidizing nanoparticles, are used for synthesis.

5. Description

Jhar ber (Ziziphus nummularia) is a most commonly occurring branched thorny shrub species in the Indian desert with a height of 1-2 m. It occupies almost all the habitats including crop lands and grazing lands. It is found growing naturally on farm lands and spreads through root suckers and also by seeds. It forms an integral part of rain fed farming system in arid zones of Rajasthan. Underground suckers of jhar ber remain dormant during summer season but they sprout with monsoon rain and complete the life cycle including vegetative growth, flowering and fruiting by November-December. The bushes are headed back at ground level after the kharif cropping season is over.

Juvenility

Juvenility is referred to the phase of plant growth following germination from seed during which flowering does not occur and the bud meristem is not competent to respond to seasonal environmental inductive cues, and hence plant remains vegetative. The changes from juvenile to mature characteristics are well known as phase changes phenomenon. Plants are unable to initiate flowering after germination and have to undergo in a juvenile developmental phase. This transition period (phase) is a gradual and continuous process until the flowering takes place. The length of this phase varies considerably between different species. In annuals like Arabidopsis, the juvenile phase is typically very short, whereas in perennials like hybrid aspen, it is several years.

A plant is considered juvenile from the time it is at seedling stage until it is mature and capable of initiating flowering. Length of juvenile period in most of woody plants is still considered as a big problem. Indeed, it affects the plant breeding efficiency, plant propagation, and selection of new cultivars. In fact, juvenility is a complex phenomenon still not fully understood. Juvenility period extends from seed germination until the plant attains the ability to flower. Furthermore, all the stages namely seed germination, juvenile growth period and transition to the reproductive stage until fruitful inflorescence development are long and not always synchronous in the seedling population. It arrives at the age 30-40 years in Fagus sylvatica L., and at l0 years or even more in olives. Juvenile period is affected by both environmental and genetic factors. Attempts made in past to overcome juvenile period in most woody plants on the environmental level have shown very limited success.

Inflammation is a process which begins following a sublethal injury to tissue and ends with complete healing or death. It is characterized by five cardinal signs. Cardinal signs of inflammation are:

Abstract

The improvement in the productivity of fruits greatly lies with the use of high density orcharding and successfully practiced in various temperate fruits. This study was carried out to increase fruit yield per unit area in apricot Cv. New Castle. Maximum yield per plant was recorded in planting distance of 5 x 5m while lowest being in 3 x2m plantings. However, calculated yield per hectare basis was maximum in 3 x 2m spacing (1666 plants/ha.) followed by3 x3 m. The girth and spread was maximum under 5 x 5m spacing. Regarding quality parameters the size, weight and volume of fruits were significantly higher under 5 x5 m spacing as compared to fruits under other planting distances. Other parameters were not affected by any of the treatment significantly.

ABSTRACT

Asimple and reproducible protocol for the rapid propagation of Clitoria ternatea L., a flowering garden climber cum medicinally valuable plant, was developed through somatic embryogenesis from the leaf explants. Leaf segments excised from 12 days old in vitro raised seedlings on inducing callus by culturing in MS medium containing 0.5 mgl^-12,4-D and 0.1 mgl^-1 BAP and sub-culturing callus to MS medium containing 1.0 mgl^-1 BAP, produced numerous somatic embryos within 30 - 45 days. Embryos germinated and produced plantlets with intact shoot and root when they were cultured in MS medium devoid of any hormones and supplemented with GA₂ 0.1 to 1.0 mgl^-1. Elongation of plantlets could be achieved on hormone free MS medium in about 3 - 4 weeks. Well- grown plants on transfer to pots, containing sterile sand, in a growth chamber and three weeks later to the greenhouse gave about 40 per cent survival.

Biosynthesis of nanoparticles is a kind of bottom up approach where the main reaction occurring is reduction/oxidation. The fungal enzymes are usually responsible for reduction of metal compounds into their respective nanoparticles.

Soil Supplying Power: Growing different crops during different seasons alters the soil nutrient status, estimated by soil analysis at the beginning of the season. The soil supplying power increases with legume in rotation, fertilizer application and addition of crop residues. The available nitrogen and potassium in soil after groundnut are higher to initial status of the soil. But after pearl millet, only potassium status in the soil is improved and no changes in P.

Nutrient Uptake by Crops: The total amount of nutrients taken by the crops in one sequence gives an indication of the fertilizer requirement of the system. The balance is obtained by subtracting the fertilizer applied to crops that nutrient taken by the crops.

Residual Effect of Fertilizers: The extent of residues left over in the soil depends on the type of fertilizer used. Phosphatic fertilizer and FYM have considerable residue in the soil, which is useful for subsequent crops. The residues left by potassium fertilizers are marginal. Legumes add nitrogen to the soil in the range of 15 to 20 kg/ha. The amount of nitrogen added depends on the purpose. Green gram grown for grain, contributes 24 and 30 kg N respectively to the succeeding crop. Inclusion of leguminous green manures in the system add 40 kg to 120 kg N/ha. The availability of phosphorous is also increased by incorporation of green manure crops.

However, lack of adequate certification facilities and the trainings organized, markets for organic foods inadequate, political and scientific will power are some of the hindrances for operating organic agriculture in India.
