Benjamin et al., (2016) have focused on the small-scale food processing enterprises (SSFPEs) as one of the important measures for national development and addressing food security challenges, particularly in Nigeria. The authors have explained the need for food processing as there has been tremendous food losses and wastages in the country. Enhancing the food processing and productivity for mechanization of food processing unit operations, development of new and existing technologies, design and development of machinery, systems for processing and preservation of different agricultural produce of high target have been undertaken. SSFPEs have played an important role in the economy of a developing country, particularly in terms of employment creation, income generation, post-harvest losses reduction, food preservation, value addition, improvement of food safety, nutritional quality, increase in shelf-life of a product and to act as training grounds for entrepreneurs before they invest in large scale enterprises. SSFPE’s around the world and especially in Nigeria are faced with significant challenges that compromise their ability to function and contribute optimally to the economy. Financial constraints and lack of management skills are the major constraints. It is important that governments and non-governmental organizations must encourage and facilitate the development of SSFPE’s. The mention of specific companies or products of manufacturers, whether or not these have been patented, does not imply that these have been endorsed or recommended by FAO or GAIN in preference to others of a similar nature that are not mentioned. Major field operations for horticultural crops viz., fruit nursery/seedling preparation, post hole digging for planting, intercultural operation, aeration, training and pruning, irrigation, plant protection, harvesting, handling, packaging transport are completed through field tools and implements. The cultivation of horticultural crops is predominantly dependent upon human labour, since commercial cultivation is only on a limited scale. So animal/power tiller or tractor-drawn mould board ploughs, disc ploughs, harrows, cultivators and rotavators are available for land preparation and development of new orchards. The fruit plants are generally perennial plants. So different types of sprayers and dusters are available from manually to power operated such as knapsack sprayers foot operated sprayers, power operated mist blowers and dusters or plant protection equipments used for application of insecticides, pesticides and herbicides in the fruit orchards. Introduction

Economists consider a producer as an income or profit maximiser. In our context, it may mean enhancement of fisheries contribution to the GDP, increased fish production, Nutritional security of those who need it most, not just those who can afford to pay for it improvement in the livelihood conditions of the stakeholders, augmenting exports to net more foreign exchange, growth with social equity or inclusive growth, etc. Realisation of a goal or target depends on development and enforcement of necessary policy strategies for which a reliable data base is inevitable. Analytical trends of the past data could help to project future trend which could indicate feasibility of the envisioned goal. Here, an outline of some of the Methodological issues in Fisheries data collection is provided.

The Resource Endowments

Fisheries is a sunrise sector in India, in terms of food and nutritional security, employment and income generation. India is the 3rd largest fish producer and the 2nd in aquaculture production, globally. It contributes about 1% of national GDP and 5 % of agriculture GDP. The exports of marine products account for about 5% of total Indian exports in 2018-19. The estimated fish production during 2017-18 was 12-59 million tones (mt). It was 10.14% increase over 11.43 million t in 2016-17. Inland fisheries grew at 14.05% while marine fisheries rose at 1.73% in 2017-18. Fisheries sub-sector provides livelihood support and gainful employment to 14 million people. Many more may be employed now as available data is yet to be updated.

Isolated tissue preparations are widely used in physiological or pharmaco logical research to delineate the mechanism of action of drugs or any active biomolecules. Traditionally it is used as a tool for bioassay of drugs. The tissue used for such pharmacodynamics studies may be isolated from different animal models viz. frog, rodents, rabbits, sheep, goat, buffalo, chicken etc. Evaluation of drug-receptor interaction and underlying mechanism of action is then performed using isolated organ bath or myograph where the isolated tissues are mounted under optimum resting tension and changes in the tension following exposure of drug is recorded with the help of recording device. With the advancement of science and technology, the recording devices are also gradually upgraded from smoked drum to student’s physiograph to the most advanced Data Acquisition System (DAS) based polyphysiograph.

The isolated tissue preparations (uterine strips, arterial rings, tracheal chains etc.) need essential and appropriate nutrients and environment during experimental which is generally provided by using suitable salt solutions (Physiological Salt Solutions) which provide ionic balance, energy supply, maintain pH and tissue tonicity. The composition of physiological salt solutions is such that it provides an artificial media simulating with the inorganic composition of blood plasma together with a buffer mechanism to maintain an optimum pH of 7.0 to 7.4 and glucose to facilitate tissue metabolism. Commonly used PSS are Frog ringers, tyrode, Kreb’s, de Jalon, Ringer-Locke, modified Kreb’s Henseleit solution etc.

Corpus luteum, one of the biological clock of the estrous cycle and pregnancy, is known foremost for its production of progesterone that blocks the pituitary release of gonadotrophins and prepare the uterus for pregnancy. The ovarian follicle wall consists of granulosa cell and theca cells vascularised and luteinize after ovulation to from a corpus luteum. Corpus luteum is temporary steroid- producing gland undergoes marked structural and functional changes far a short time span during its development functional life and regression. During estrous cycle, the corpus luteum undergoes an initial period of growth (metestrus), followed by a period of maximal function (diestus) and finally by a period of regression (proestrus) preceding the next ovulation (Robert, 1986). The most prominent cell in the CL is the large luteal steroidogenic cell.

Ultrasound imaging has been used to detect and measure the corpus luteum throughout the estrous cycle and corpus luteum has been characterized during pregnancy and non pregnancy. Changes in corpus luteum diameter as detected by ultrasonography are highly correlated with progesterone production. A high correlation has been found in the ultrasonographic detection of bovine corpora lutea (Lean et al., 1992) and between luteal tissue area measured ultrasonographically and plasma progesterone concentration (Bergfelt et al., 1989).

Importance of Understanding the Target Audience

The success of any advertising campaign hinges on audience relevance. Advertisers must know who their audience is, what they want, and how they think. The primary benefits of understanding the target audience include:

Forest microclimate is the climate within a forest in contrast to a nearby open area created by a clearing or pasture. A robust observation is that less sunlight reaches the ground in a forest than in open areas, but this depends on the size of the clearing, the height of trees surrounding the clearing, and the location in the clearing (relative to the edge) where measurements are obtained. Daytime temperature is generally lower in forest than in open areas, with greatest differences during the growing season; but this, too, is subject to edge effects and whether the canopy is sparse or dense. Wind near the ground is less than in exposed areas or above the canopy. Another point is that there are various microclimates within a forest canopy. The environment of the forest overstory differs from that of the understory, and this has important consequences for species conservation and protection from climate change. The forest microclimate has important implications for habitat and biodiversity conservation and may act to buffer forest understory organisms from the severity of climate change. Forest microclimates differ not only in contrast with open land, but also vertically with position in the canopy (Fig. 8.1).

Abdominal part

The sympathetic trunks enter the abdominal cavity between the psoas minor and the crus of the diaphragm of the corresponding side. They run caudally on the ventrolateral surfaces of the lumbar vertebrae and the ventral common vertebral ligament. The left trunk is ventrally related to the abdominal aorta and the right trunk to the caudal vena cava. The sympathetic trunks of the opposite sides in the cranial half of the lumbar part lie rather close to each other and as they pass caudally, they gradually divert from each other. The lumbar sympathetic ganglia are small spindle shaped usually six in number and are present one in each lumbar segment. The first two are larger than the rests. Each is connected with the ventral division of the corresponding lumbar spinal nerve by the ramus communicans. The interganglionic segments of the sympathetic trunk are usually single but some times they split.

Splanchnic nerves

The greater (major) splanchnic nerve is formed by the contribution of sympathetic nerve fibres from fifth or sixth thoracic to thirteenth thoracic sympathetic ganglia. It becomes larger and larger as it passes caudally along with the sympathetic trunk. It enters the abdomen at the level of the first lumbar vertebra gets separated from it, passes ventrally and laterally across the aorta (left trunk) and vena cava (right trunk) to join the coeliacomesenteric autonomic plexus on and around the coeliac and cranial mesenteric arteries.

Wildlife diseases have gained some good momentum in the recent years due to the complex-linkage with zoonosis, conflicts between wild fauna and homo sapiens in an ascending manner, environmental health care measures etc. Due to this, considerable pressure is there on zoo veterinarians or the field veterinarians working in free ranging areas of forests like national parks, wildlife sanctuaries etc.

14.1 Introduction

Eggs are an essential food for humans due to the high nutritional quality and quantity that they contain. Eggs are one of the most consumed foods all over the world because of its nutritious profile, range of uses, and relatively inexpensive cost as a food source. Intakes of total lipids, cholesterol, and saturated fatty acids in human diets can be attributed, in part, to the consumption of animal products. Due to the high amounts of cholesterol (about 200-300 mg/100 g) and saturated fat (approximately 3 g/100 g), eggs have been considered to be contentious foods by several health organisations and nutritional experts.

Social stratification refers to the hierarchical arrangement of individuals or groups within a society based on various factors such as wealth, power, education, and social status. Social stratification, as defined by Lundberg (1968), pertains to the categorization of a population into distinct layers, each characterized by relative homogeneity and marked differences in privileges, restrictions, rewards, and obligations. Cuber (1954) further elucidates this concept, describing social stratification as a pattern of superimposed categories of differential privilege. The movement of individuals or groups across different strata within society is termed social mobility. Social stratification manifests in various forms, with the caste system and class system being two major types. Societies exhibit stratification based on factors such as sex, age, and occupation.

16.2. Fundamental Concepts

16.2.1. Players

In game theory, a player is any individual or entity that makes decisions within the context of the game. Players are assumed to be rational, meaning they aim to maximize their own utility or payoff based on their preferences and the information available to them.

It is a monotypic or unigeneric family represented by four genera containing about 91 species distributed mainly in north-east Australia and also in Fiji, New Caledonia, Malaysia and Mascarene islands. Only one species (Casuarina equisetifolia) occurs in India, and this is the most common species of the world.

Casuarina is important mainly as timber tree. The wood of C. equisetifolia, C. cunningbamia and C. stricta is used for furniture, for fuel and also for basket making. 9.1. Glass houses
Glass houses are also referred as greenhouses. The glass prevents harmful ultraviolet radiations. The glass is transparent to solar radiations of wavelengths up to 300 nm and does not allow long-wave radiations to pass through it (Fig.9.1). Therefore, the Glass houses maintain higher temperature and high relative humidity during daytime as well as nighttime and offer the following advantages:
9.1.1. Controlled Environment: Glass houses facilitate regulation of temperature,
humidity, and light intensity, creating optimum environment for growing various plant species. This is especially beneficial for tropical and sub-tropical plants that require specific conditions to grow and survive.
9.1.2. Protection from Pests and Diseases: The enclosed glass house protects
plants from pests and diseases. The glass house also protects the plants from harsh weather conditions thereby minimizing risk of infestations and environmental stresses. Fig. 9.1: Microclimate management in Glass house
9.1.3. Extended Growing Season: By maintaining stable climate, glass houses
enable cultivation of plants that may not survive outdoors in certain climates thereby extending the growing season for sensitive species.
9.1.4. Research and Conservation: Botanical gardens often use glass houses for
research purposes, studying plant growth, genetics and breeding. The glass houses will also serve as a means for conserving rare or endangered plant species by providing stable environment for propagation. The advantage of glass houses is that the structure has long life span.
9.2. Poly houses
The poly houses are constructed using polythene material. The poly houses protect the plants from wind, cold weather, hail storms, extreme temperatures, insects and pests. The polythene house farming is a popular greenhouse technology due to its low cost of construction and maintenance. Generally, heat accumulation (70 to 75 per cent of solar energy) takes place inside the polyhouse. Solar radiation is allowed to pass through the polythene material and the long wave radiation cannot escape through polythene. The benefits of poly houses are:
