Tea (Camellia sinensis) is one of the most important beverage crops in the World and the second most commonly drank liquid on earth after water. It has numerous medicinal benefits mainly due to its antibacterial and
antioxidant properties. The major tea growing regions of the world are South-East Asia (India and Sri Lanka), Eastern and South Africa consisting of Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique. All these countries are producers of black tea. China and Japan are the major producers of green tea. These countries experience cool, tropical humid climate where this crop is being cultivated. However, at present, the crop is also being cultivated in wide range of climates from Mediterranean to warm, humid tropics to include countries such as Russia and Georgia in the northern latitudes and Argentina and Australia in the southern latitudes (Plate 8. 1). The region to which the crop is grown is closely linked with the climate. The crop is grown across wide altitudes up to 2200 m a.m.s.l. Sri Lanka, Kenya, China and Vietnam are the major competitors to India in tea exporting field. China is the major producer of green tea while Sri Lanka and Indonesia are producing mainly orthodox varieties of tea. Tea industry in India occupies an important place in the national economy since last 172 years. It is an essential item of domestic consumption. Tea is also considered as the cheapest beverage amongst the beverages available in India.

Tea is the most important non-alcoholic beverage worldwide gaining further popularity as an important ‘health drink’. It is consumed as a morning drink by 2/3^rd of world population. Tea was used initially as a medicine and subsequently as beverage and now has proven to be a potential raw material for pharmaceutical industry. Tea is mainly consumed in the form of ‘fermented tea’ or ‘black tea’, ‘non-fermented’ or ‘green tea’ and semi-fermented or ‘oolong tea’ are also popular in Japan and China. Green leaves are also used as vegetables such as ‘leppet tea’ in Burma and ‘meing tea’ in Thailand.

Tea, Camellia sinensis is one of the most important beverage crops. India is the second largest producer of tea globally. North eastern parts contribute to 80 per cent of the total tea production in the country with majority coming from Assam and West Bengal. Southern parts contribute around 20 per cent with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka being the major tea producing states. About 150 insect pests are reported on tea out of which foliage feeders like Tea mosquito bug, bunch caterpillar and mites act as direct pests. The details of major insect pests are being given hereunder:

Tea mosquito bug, Helopeltis antonii Signoret and H. theivora Waterhouse (Miridae: Hemiptera)

This is one of the major pests of tea in India and besides tea it also infests cashew, neem, drumstick and guava. The eggs are sausage shaped and bear two minute hairs on operculum, which project out of the egg. Nymphs of H. antonii are reddish and ant-like, while those of H. theivora are dirty yellow or greenish yellow. The adult of H. antonii is a reddish-brown bug with black head, red thorax and black and white abdomen, whereas, the adult of H. theivora is a small, active elongated bug with black or olive green head

Tea tortrix/flushworm: Homona coffearia:Tortricidae

The tortrix is  an important pest of tea leaves. The larvae make leaf nests by webbing the leaves using silken threads and feed from inside. A single caterpillar makes several cases. Young larvae prefer tender leaves, while the older larvae are seen in mature leaves. The economic produce being the leaves, and since chemical control is not advised, especially during the picking phase, the pest becomes a management problem.

Introduction

The definition of the teaching-learning process, also known as the education process, is a methodical, planned sequence of events that both the teacher and the student follow in order to accomplish the goals of teaching and learning. In primary education, values education is taught through games. Extension services are vital to the global rural and agricultural communities because they spread knowledge, offer useful skills, and encourage sustainable practices. The teaching and learning process, a dynamic exchange between extension agents and community members with the goal of enabling people to better their lives and livelihoods, is at the centre of these extension efforts.

Extension Teaching

It is now evident that the extension is an educational process which attempts to produce desirable changes in the human behaviour. This educational process is nothing but teaching-learning process and this is explained by Leagans (1961) as follows:

Teaching is the process of arranging situations that stimulate and guide the learning activity towards the goals that specify the desired changes in the behaviour of people. Teaching consists of providing situations in which the things to be learnt are brought to the attention of the learners, their interest is developed, desire aroused, conviction created, action promoted and satisfaction ensured.

Learning is the process by which an individual, through his own activity, changes his behaviour.

Process means a course of procedures, something that occurs in a series of actions or events conducting to the desired end.

In the present scenario, team formation is the key enabler for getting all sorts of benefit in organizational perspective as well as benefit sharing perspective. So, in any organizational atmosphere team plays a pivotal role in performance of human resources in organization through contributing to the organizational goal. Successful organizations today know that teams make a big difference in achieving strategic goals. Teams that are strong, flexible, and productive can be the competitive edge needed to produce better results, achieve higher quality, lower costs for the organization and the customer. With active involvement, high-performing teams can help promote employees bottom line results, as well as their adaptability, quality, service, and safety. To achieve these objectives, teams have to start doing things differently. Team members and leaders need to communicate more effectively with each other, encourage more involvement, tap into one another’s creativity, overcome the group’s resistance to change, and renew team spirit. But this change can also create difficulty for some who may lack the knowledge, understanding, or a mindset that is conducive to teamwork. Team Building for high performance teams is designed to provide skills and promote high levels of team performance and team member satisfaction. Consequently, team building is required for knowing each other within the organizational team, boosting morale, improving communication and relationships, making the workplace more enjoyable, motivating a team, getting everyone “onto the same page” including goal setting, teaching the team self-regulation strategies, helping participants to learn more about themselves (strengths and weaknesses), identifying and utilizing the strengths of team members, improving team productivity, identifying and developing leadership skills and practicing effective collaboration with team members. Group is a collection of two or more interacting individuals with a stable pattern of relationships among them, who share common goals and who perceive themselves as being a group. Group essentially consists of social interaction, stable structure, common interests, perceive themselves as part of group.

Why It Matters
Teamwork drives innovation, productivity, and workplace morale. Effective collaboration leverages diverse strengths, but poor teamwork can lead to miscommunication, duplicated efforts, or resentment. For example, a team without clear roles might miss deadlines, or unresolved conflicts can erode trust. This module empowers participants to build cohesive, high-performingn teams.

Teasle gourd, Momordica subangulata Blume ssp. renigera (G. Don) de Wilde (Cucurbitaceae), is a semidomesticate or a wild vegetable native to Assam-Myanmar region. As in  other dioecious Momordica species, it’s taxonomy and nomenclature were confused with M. dioica Roxb. (spine gourd=kartoli) and M. cochinchinensis (Lour.) Spreng. (sweet gourd=kakrol) (Joseph et al.2006). It is known by many vernacular names like kaksa (Bihar), lamkarote (Manipur), meeta chotela (Sikkim), kakrol (Bengal, Tripura), kakrul (Mizoram), bhat karela (Assam) and gantola (Bangalore). Allied to M. dioica, M. cochinchinensis and M. sahyadrica Joseph and Antony, in general morphology it is distinct from these species in its branched tuberous roots, cordate dentate unlobed leaves, prominently networked leaf veins, large creamy flowers with bull’s eye mark in three inner petals (also in M. cochinchinensis), reniform male bracts, very long female flower stalks and medium sized softly echinate dome shaped fruits with remnant ridges (Fig.1). A few workers reported it as tetraploid form of M. dioica (Misra and Sahoo 1983). It is referred to as M. cochinchinensis by Patnaik and Patnaik (1976), Shadeque and Baruah (1984) and Ram et al. (2002) and M. dioica by Maurya (1976) and Ali et al. (1991), whereas a recent revision of the genus in Malaysia and SE Asia by De Wilde and Duyfjes (2002) proved its botanical identity as Momordica subangulata ssp. renigera  (G. Don) de Wilde.

Automation through driverless tractors and robotic milking machines boosts farm efficiency by 20%, while e-commerce platforms connect farmers directly to markets, inflating their profit margins by 10%.

ABSTRACT

Veterinarians, appointed in field, rarely get the opportunity to update their knowledge and skills, through trainings or courses, due to their working conditions. More over, they feel isolated and neglected from colleges due to poor interactions. Looking to this need, the courses on Post Mortem Techniques and Diagnosis of Parasitic Diseases in Livestock were developed, based on the Need Assessment survey. The courses were developed on interactive CD ROM with audio, video clips and photographs along with some reading material. The courses were of one credit each and had minimum one face-to-face session. The response by the veterinarians was tremendous and around 210 veterinarians offered for the courses by paying fees. Participants and stakeholders expressed the need for additional courses and accordingly two more courses on surgical techniques in large and small animals were launched which also received good response.

    5.    Further availability of veterinary aid, dairy breeding (AI) centre, milk collection and marketing centre are also important.

    6.    Nearness of the selected area to veterinary/breeding/milk collection centre and the financing bank’s branch.

    7.    Capability of the owner and employees such as technical knowledge and skill.

Food Business Regulatory System in India

In India Food Businesses are regulated by only One authority i.e. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This comes under the control of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Govt. of India.

FSSAI – Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

The FSSAI or Food Safety and Standards Authority of India was incorporated under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) of 2006. It consolidated various acts & orders that were previously applicable and used to handle food related issues in different Ministries and Departments. The basic objective of formulating FSSAI has been to lay down science-based standards for items of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, sale, distribution, and import to ensure the availability of adulteration-free and wholesome food for human consumption.

Abstract

Based on oxygen requirement, microorganisms have been classified into different groups, like facultative anaerobes, micro-aerophilic, aerotolerant and strict/obligate anaerobes. Obligate or strict anaerobes are the key components of anoxic environments and provide valuable ecosystem services like methanogenesis, sulphate reduction, metal reduction, degradation of pollutants etc. Apart from being valuable for the ecosystem, they are causative agents of human infections. They are the key players of human-gut microbiology, and can be used in bio-toilets, solid waste management, anaerobic digestion of waste, wastewater treatment processes and generation of waste to energy etc. Only few anaerobic microorganisms are pathogenic in nature. A mechanistic understanding about physiology and metabolism of anaerobic microorganisms is imperative for their industrial applications. Cultivation of these organisms is the first and very important step for the basic and applied study of anaerobes. Unlike cultivation of aerobic microorganisms anaerobic cultivation needs special care and facilities for successful handling of anaerobes. In the current chapter, We tried to incorporate the components and technicalities of anaerobic pre-reduced media preparation, cultivation and successful isolation of strict anaerobes. In addition, we also tried to discuss the different tools used for cultivation of anaerobes.

Ruminant, major source of meat and milk for human consumption, whose digestive system has evolved in such a way that it provides an additional advantage of being non-competitive to human food chain. Global warming is real and rising with a pace threatening lives of all flora and fauna on earth. Methane produced by ruminant bacteria predominately by methanogen group of bacteria acting as hydrogen sink cause loss of dietary energy to the animal affecting its potential productivity as well as a major source of global warming. The use of plant secondary metabolites is preferred as a feed additive in ruminant diet to improve fatty acid production by reducing enteric methane. The study was carried out using 10% aqueous and ethanolic extract of Psidiumguajawa leaves powder, citrus fruit peel powder to assess in vitro rumen fermentation parameters. The in vitro trial was conducted by taking different concentrations @ 0.2 ml, 0.5ml, 1ml and 2 ml of plant extracts with substrate media containing rumen fluid. After 6 and 24 hours of incubation, pH, total gas production, ammonia- nitrogen, TVFA and total nitrogen were measured. Bacteroides and methanogenic bacterial profile was done by Real time PCR. The results revealed that the total gas production decreased in plant extract supplemented samples with respect to control. Total nitrogen production increased in aqueous P. guajawa and increase in TVFA was observed in all plant extract supplemented samples. Ammonia- nitrogen production does not vary significantly, indicating no change in NPN degradation due to supplementation of different plant extracts at different concentration. Total bacteroides expression were increased in rumen samples treated with P. guajawa and citrus peel powder, while a decrease in methanogenic bacterial expression was observed in plant extracts supplemented samples as compared to control indicating an improvement in rumen fermentation further enhancing productivity.

A study was conducted to assess utilization pattern of ICT based Information by the livestock owners in using information communication technology with special reference to enhanced livestock production, in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. A total of 80 farmers were selected for study. The results showed that cent percent of the farmers had availability and accessibility of mobile phones as well as television. Majority of the livestock farmers are regularly using ICT tools for information dissemination. Majority (85.00%) of respondents were saying scientific information of livestock is available on mobile followed by (25.00%) of respondents said this scientific information are available on computer. Apart from these (68.75%) of respondent usage of mobile as ICTs tools for getting health related information of animals. Mobile phone was the most frequently and widely used while radio was least used ICT tool among the livestock farmers being used for the purpose of getting information.
