Problem: Cost of cultivation depending upon the seed and time. More yields can be obtained during right time of sowing, but net profit is very less due to the glut in the market. We can get more return from early or late sown crop during both the season due to the high cost in the market.

Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) is a widely grown vegetable variety in India. It is one of the important members of the family Cucurbitaceae. The seed production can be done throughout the year in tropical climate and during spring, summer and rainy season in subtropical climates. In Tamil Nadu September – October is suitable for seed production. In hills seed production can be done during summer season.

One of the most powerful arguments to justify government intervention in the economy in the economy is the so-called concept of market failure. In a typical free enterprise system where demand and supply forces operate, the efficiency which results only relates to economic welfare. The social cost implications of economic activities tend to be ignored. Governments therefore intervene in the economy with the social welfare objective in mind. One popular way by which governments have intervened in the economy is through ownership of particular industries or outright nationalization of some private enterprises. CORRELATION

In case of bivariate or multivariate normal distributions, we may be interested in discovering and measuring the magnitude and direction of the relationship between two or more variables. For this purpose we use correlation. The sys- tematic interrelationship between the variables is termed as correlation. When only two variables are involved the correlation is known as simple correlation. If more than two variables are involved the correlation is known as multiple correlation. An increase in one variable may cause an increase in the other variable, or a decrease in one variable may cause a decrease in the other vari- able, then they are said to be positively correlated. If a decrease in one variable causes an increase in the other variable or vise versa, the variables are said to be negatively correlated.

We performed a detailed hands-on practical on ‘Shrimp Health Examination’ at the Pathology Necroscopy room on 29th September 2023. Several activities regarding the health examination of shrimp were performed. It included, the collection of blood from an in-between portion of pereiopods and pleopods, also making blood smears on a glass slide, staining, and observation of blood cells under a microscope. Collection of samples from hepatopancreas for microbial culture to know the presence of any pathogen present. Collection of body part samples like gill, pleopods, and telson to observe the presence of external parasites. The species used health examination Whiteleg shrimp (Litopennaenus vannamei).

Introduction

Studying the mildew resistance of paper involves evaluating how well the paper can resist fungal growth under specific conditions. Mildew, a type of mold, can degrade paper quality, causing discoloration, weakening, and unpleasant odors. Here’s a detailed procedure to assess the mildew resistance of paper:

Materials Needed

Paper samples (different types, if comparison is required), Sterile petri dishes, Sterile distilled water

Fungal spore suspension (commonly Aspergillus niger or similar mildew spores), Nutrient medium (e.g., potato dextrose agar or a similar agar that promotes fungal growth), Incubator, Sterile tweezers and scissors, Forceps, Micropipette or dropper, Humidity chamber (can be a sealed container with a saturated salt solution to maintain high humidity), Control samples (untreated paper).

This chapter introduces the microscopic and molecular structure of wool fibres and explains how structure determines their physical behaviour. It examines the cuticle, cortex and medulla and discusses the role of overlapping cuticle scales in felting. The bilateral organization of the cortex and the relationship between ortho-cortex and para-cortex are related to crimp formation. The chapter also explains the filament-matrix organization of keratin and its importance for the mechanical properties of wool.

Chromatography is a general technique available for the separation of closely related compounds in a sample. The term chromatography is derived from Greek where chroma means colour and graphein means to write. It is a very useful technique for both qualitative (preparative ) and quantitative (analytical) analyses. The separation is effected by the differential distribution of the components between two immiscible phases, namely, stationary and mobile phases. The various constituents of the mixture travel at different speeds, causing them to separate. The separation is based on differential partitioning (partition coefficient) between the mobile and stationary phases. The stationary phase is a porous medium through which the sample mixture percolates under the influence of a moving solvent (mobile phase).

Sanitation in the Rabbitry is the best disease-prevention system. Daily cleaning of cages or hutches, containers and surrounding is the easiest way to ensure sanitary condition and hence control disease. The most common diseases found in rabbits are cocciodosis. Pasteurella type pneumonia and enteritis. There are generally caused by lack of sanitation in the rabbitry. With strict sanitation practices such as cleaning all cages and water containers everyday, removal of manure, soiled bedding. Contaminated feed and collecting roughage from uncontaminated areas can drastically reduces chances of any disease in the rabbitry.

1.1.    Specific and Unspecific Reactions to Stress

Layout plan- Main objective of layout is maximum number of plant accommodated in per unit area without affecting the efficiency of production. If more than one fruit is included in the orchard plan, each kind should be grouped into individual block. Similarly fruit ripened in particular season should be grouped to facilitate convenience in watch and ward, harvest and post harvest handling. Some kind of fruit trees need pollinators/pollinisers for improving the fruit set.

Nursery

An area where the planting materials are raised for sowing or planting in garden or fields, in other words, the nursery industry involves the production and distribution of different kind of planting material.

Some of the vegetables sown directly in the field are Okra, Pea, Cowpea, Frenchbean Dolichosbean, Radish, Carrot, Bottle gourd, Bitter gourd, Ridge gourd, Spongegourd,Ashgourd, Muskmelon, Watermelon, Cucumber, Pumpkin, Roundmelon, Spinachbeet, Spinach, Coriander, Amaranthus, Lettuce, Fenugreek etc. Some vegetables are propagated through vegetative means like Colocasia, Ginger, Garlic, Potato, Sweet potato, Drumstick, Asparagus, Elephant foot, Pointedgourd and Ivygourd. But there are certain vegetables having very small seeds and first sown in the nursery for better care and to combat the main field. Such vegetables are Tomato, Brinjal, Chilli, Capsicum, Broccoli, Endive, Chicory, Cabbage, cauliflower, Khol-Khol, Kale, Parsley, Lettuce etc.

Raising of seedlings in the nursery beds is economic as well as easier to take care of young, tender seedlings against disease, insect pests and weeds. Better combat against biotic stress like bright sun, rains and low temperature and economisation by saving land, labour and capital to fetch higher market price.

Ribbed gourd (Luffa acutangula (L) Roxb.) belonging to the family Cucurbitaceae is a well known vegetable variety in India. The seed production can be done in both summer and rainy season.
Method of seed production

Bitter gourd is a cross-pollinated crop which occurs through bees. Seeds should be allowed to set by open-pollination in isolation. The isolation distance maintained between the fields of other varieties and the fields of the same variety not conforming to the varietal purity requirements for certification is 1000 metres for foundation and 500 metres for certified seed production.

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru, organized five- day National Horticulture Fair (NHF 2021) from February 8^th to 12th with the theme ‘Horticulture: for start-up and stand-up India’ in collaboration with several agencies. The fair was held on a dual mode with the approaches of virtual and physical. 

Otology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the ear and its diseases. Ear diseases in canines have multiple etiology varying from allergies (food or environmental), ectoparasites, infections (bacteria, malassazia, fungus), endocrine disorders, immunological disorders (autoimmune diseases), foreign material, neoplasms to keratinization disorders. For rational management, correct diagnosis is a pre-requisite. Diagnostic techniques in otology include history, clinical examination including ear canal palpation and visual inspection of ears, imaging (otoscopy, radiography, CT scan, MRI, and ultrasonography) and cytological evaluation of otic contents/ discharge.

Regardless of the subject or content, having a lesson plan prepares teachers for class by providing detailed guidelines for the session. A lesson plan need not be lengthy or complex; it should simply outline what is being taught, the method of presentation, and the objectives and goals for student achievement.

Mango is the choicest fruit of tropical world. Originated in Indo-Malayan region (Mukherjee, 1985), more than one thousand varieties are under commercial cultivation in India (Mukherjee 1949). South Indian varieties of mango are distinct (Yadav and Singh, 1985).  Naik and Gangolly (1950)  described 135 South Indian varieties, taking fruit character as the main criteria. North Kerala experiencing humid tropical climate is an important zone of variability of mango (Kannan, 1982). Polyembryonic mango cultivars like ‘Vellaikolamban’, ‘Kurukkan’ and ‘Bappakkai’ are traditionally grown here. Over the years, there is erosion in  gene pool of rich varietal wealth due to deforestation, urbanisation and large scale rubber cultivation in Kerala. Establishment of field gene bank is an important ex situ conservation strategy. Systematic attempts to conserve  genepool  resulted  in collection of  more than 1266 varieties in various field gene banks in our country (Chadha, 1976). Field Gene Bank (FGB) has the advantage of being continuously evaluated and desired accessions can immediately be utilized directly or in breeding programmes. Field gene bank very often represents only a fraction of variability of the gene pool and  enrichment of the collection is always required for capturing  available diversity.
