Tea, Camellia sinensis is one of the most important beverage crops. India is the second largest producer of tea globally. North eastern parts contribute to 80 per cent of the total tea production in the country with majority coming from Assam and West Bengal. Southern parts contribute around 20 per cent with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka being the major tea producing states. About 150 insect pests are reported on tea out of which foliage feeders like Tea mosquito bug, bunch caterpillar and mites act as direct pests. The details of major insect pests are being given hereunder:

Tea mosquito bug, Helopeltis antonii Signoret and H. theivora Waterhouse (Miridae: Hemiptera)

This is one of the major pests of tea in India and besides tea it also infests cashew, neem, drumstick and guava. The eggs are sausage shaped and bear two minute hairs on operculum, which project out of the egg. Nymphs of H. antonii are reddish and ant-like, while those of H. theivora are dirty yellow or greenish yellow. The adult of H. antonii is a reddish-brown bug with black head, red thorax and black and white abdomen, whereas, the adult of H. theivora is a small, active elongated bug with black or olive green head

Photoshop provides a comprehensive toolkit for crafting these titles, including tools for color grading, typography, textures, and other effects, which video editing software often lacks.

Radiation injury occurs when living tissues are exposed to harmful ionizing radiation. This radiation can damage cellular structures and genetic material, leading to acute and chronic health issues. Sources of ionizing radiation include nuclear accidents, radiation therapy, industrial exposure, and environmental contaminants. Radiation injury can have devastating effects on livestock and wildlife health, necessitating effective veterinary treatment and nutritional management to mitigate its consequences.
Mechanism of radiation injury
Radiation injury occurs when high-energy particles or electromagnetic waves interact with biological tissues. The mechanisms involved include:
1. Ionization of molecules:Ionizing radiation removes electrons from atoms, forming free radicals such as hydroxyl radicals (OH) that damage cellular components.
2. DNA damage: Radiation causes single- or double-strand breaks in DNA, leading to mutations, impaired replication, or cell death.
3. Lipid peroxidation: Free radicals attack lipid membranes, disrupting cellular integrity and causing oxidative stress.
4. Protein denaturation: Radiation alters the structure and function of proteins, affecting enzymatic activities and cell signalling.
5. Inflammatory response: Damaged cells release inflammatory cytokines, leading to tissue inflammation and fibrosis.

Compounds having one or more asymmetric carbon atoms can rotate the plane of polarized light. Such compounds are called optically active. Measurement   of this property is called polarimetry.
 
The magnitude and direction in which the plane of polarized light is rotated depend on 1.The nature  of the compound, 2. The  concentration of the solution, 3. The path length of light, 4. The solvent, 5. The wave length of light and

Seeding or sowing is an art of placing seeds in the soil to have good germination in the field. The ingestion of mycotoxin-contaminated feedstuffs by animals leads to adverse effect on animal health and the effects are more serious in monogastric animals depending on the species and the susceptibility to toxins within the species. Ruminants are less susceptible to mycotoxins than monogastric animals because of biotransformation of mycotoxins to non-toxic metabolites in rumen by rumen microbiota (Fink-Gremmels, 2008).

There are some methods to control male reproductive behaviour for better breeding and managemental practices i.e. Vasectomy and Caudal epididymectomy, Penile surgeries, and castration etc. • Surgical and non surgical interventions in the male reproductive system are carried out for: • To make teaser bull • To make bull sterile • To prevent the transmission of venereal diseases • Population control or Breeding management • To rectify any ailment or deformity Teaser Bull • A male animal whose capability of spermatogenesis as well as libido is maintained but it is not able to impregnate a female. • For the preparation of teaser bull or Gomer bull, Male animal should be selected well before the start of breeding season. Bull should be young vigorous and fertile. It should be of moderate adult size with mild temperament. Heavy and large sized bull is tough to handle, needs more time for surgery, has chances of more hemorrhage, and may have more post surgical complications.

Etiology

 Acral lick dermatitis is usually observed on extremities of dogs and the probable etiology is persistent licking. It is also caused due to self-trauma or mutilation.

Introduction

Voluntary efforts are always focused on the search for an efficient extension mechanism towards a progressive rural development intervention. Extension is otherwise the organized exchange of information and purposive transfer of skills to fulfill the communication gap in transfer of technology process. The goal of extension varies between different extension organizations according to their system of administration and management. As such the voluntary organizations engaged in agriculture & rural development need an incessant backstopping of farm and allied information from the formal Government extension network, so as to complement & supplement the state sponsored extension efforts as an able stakeholder. Hence the study is an attempt to unearth the information flow in voluntary agencies for viable cooperative extension in the times ahead.

Materials and Methods

The study was conducted with 34 numbers of agro-based grass-root voluntary organizations of Kendrapara and Balasore districts of Odisha. One functionary each from the cadre of administrative, supervisory and field staffs were selected as respondents covering total sample size of 102 respondents. Random sampling technique was followed to select voluntary organizations and respondents. Responses were collected on a four point continuum with the use of mean score, pooled mean and rank order for analysis of the data. Results obtained on the information and communication behaviour of voluntary agro- extension workers towards field extension are tabulated and interpreted below.

India produces two types of coffee i.e. arabica, Coffea arabica and robusta, C. canephora. The former has higher market value than the latter. Coffee is cultivated mainly in the Southern parts of India with Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu being the major coffee producing states. Some of the major pests which limits the cultivation of coffee are described below:

White stem borer, Xylotrechus quadripes Cheverolat (Cerambycidae: Coleoptera)

It is a serious pest of Arabica coffee in India. Alternate host plants include Robusta coffee, teak and Indian olive tree. Eggs are milky white when freshly laid but turns yellow later on. These are elongate, oval in shape and measures 1.25 –1.28 mm in length and 0.46 – 0.5 mm in width. The adult is a dark brown longicorn beetle (16mm long) and bears several white markings on the elytra (Plate 14c). The pale yellow stout full grown grub broader towards the anterior most region, measures 20-30 mm in length.

Mechanism of action of antibiotics
Antibiotics are chemical compounds that kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria.
They work through various mechanisms:
1. Inhibition of cell wall synthesis: Penicillins and cephalosporins disrupt bacterial cell wall formation, leading to lysis.
2. Disruption of protein synthesis: Antibiotics like tetracyclines and macrolides target bacterial ribosomes, halting protein production.

Spotted boll  worms/ Shoot and fruit borer: Earias vitella (=E.fabia), E. insulana: Noctuidae

This is a pest on cotton, bhendi, hibiscus, holly hock and other malvaceous vegetables. Moths lay eggs singly in leaf axils, bracts and leaf veins and on under surface. Larvae bore into tender shoots, buds, flowers and fruits and feed on internal contents.  Damage results in drooping of shoots and shedding of buds and flowers. The infested fruits have bore holes, are deformed and become unfit for consumption.  Bore holes are plugged with excreta.

Shrubbery-An area of cultivated shrubs in a parkor garden is known asshrubbery or any area in the garden fully solely devoted to the shrub plantation is called shrubbery. These shrubs are maintained in formal way therefore require regular training, pruning and clipping. Maintenance of shrubbery is easy and become less costly if planted properly considering following point (See plate 22).

• Selection of hardy shrubs.
• Shrubs having profuse flowering and beautiful foliage.
• Selection of shrub according to soil.
• Shrub having slow growing habit and required less pruning and management.

During normal conditions in the Pacific Ocean, trade winds blow west along the equator, taking warm water from South America towards Asia. To replace that warm water, cold water rises from the depths-a process called upwelling. These global parameters are popularly known as El Ni?o, La Ni?a, Southern Oscillation, and ENSO (combination of El Ni?o and Southern Oscillation).

Cocoa, Theobroma cacao is an important commercial plantation crop of humid tropics. It was introduced as a mixed crop in India and is cultivated in coconut and arecanut plantations large scale from 1970 onwards. It is grown as an under- storey intercrop with sufficient shade in southern states of India. Tamil Nadu is the major cocoa producing state in India. Some pests of economic importance are described hereunder:

Mealy bugs, Planococcus lilacinus (Ckll.) and P. citri (Pseudococcidae: Hemiptera)

These two species are most prevalent in all cocoa growing tracts of the country. Beside cocoa, it also infests coffee, citrus, guava, mango, etc. The adult female is an oval wingless insect which measures 4mm in length. The body colour is chocolate brown and the dorsal body surface is covered with thick waxy covering (Plate 14g). The male is winged and free living.

Cancer has gained considerable relevance in animals now-a-days owing to the increased awareness among people towards animal sufferings and pain. The diagnosis and management of neoplasm, therefore, represent the major challenges faced by a veterinary oncologist. Mammary gland tumours are among the most common canine neoplasm, but the vast majority of these tumours occur in intact female dogs. In canines, mammary gland tumours that occur in males ranges from 0-2.7% (average < 1%). Sex hormones plays a vital role for the occurrence of mammary gland tumours. The p53 gene over expression is an independent factor for indicator of worse prognosis in canine mammary gland tumours. The p53 may be useful prognostic markers for evaluating malignancy in canine mammary gland tumours. There is a strong positive correlation between expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) and grade of malignancy in the tumours. Increased Cox-2 expressions are linearly related in the canine mammary gland tumours and are also related to worse prognosis and shorter overall survival. Canine mammary gland malignant tumours have the highest values of Cox-2 expression. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) are a family of zinc and calcium-dependent proteolytic enzymes that degrade macromolecules of the extracellular matrix. Members of this family such as MMP-2, -9 and -7 have been shown to be associated with tumour progression and invasion in human cancer tissues. Matrilysin (MMP-7) influence the early stage of tumourogenesis.

Withania somnifera, also known as Ashwagandha, Indian ginseng, Winter cherry, Ajagandha, Kan-aje Hindi, Amukkara in Tamil and Samm Al Ferakh, is a plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family.

Grasshoppers : Trilophida an- nulata : Acrididae

The nymphs and adults of this grasshopper feed on the margins of leaves of Aswagandha. It is only a minor pest, nibbling on the leaves.
