6.1 Introduction 
Lignocellulosic Biomass (LCB) generated from the global consumption of fruit and vegetables rapidly generates approximately 140 billion metric tons of agricultural waste. Environmental pollution associated with these wastes, like land pollution, and increased greenhouse gas emissions, can be reduced through the bioconversion of wastes (renewable biomass resources) into value-added products in biorefineries (Babu et al., 2022). These value-added products synthesized for utilization in industries such as biofuels, biomaterials, or biochemicals are effective, reuseable, and enhance sustainability. These bioproducts are recuperated into useful biomolecules and oils for the food industries and dyes for the textile industries. The sustainability of these products can be acquired efficiently through costeffective pretreatments and bioprocess optimization methods (Haldar et al., 2020). The initial stage of value product chain development is the process modelling and optimizing, which, due to its complex nature and large scale, faces challenges in raw material availability, cost competitiveness, upscaling, and lack of technological maturity (Gerassimidou et al., 2021). Optimization of production processes like fermentation and chemical synthesis for manufacturing value-added products has become a focal point in research enhancement of biorefineries. There has been a revolution in the technology used in process designing and manufacturing practices in biorefineries. Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based approaches like Genetic Algorithm (GA), Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are being utilized along with conventional tools to optimize variables interacting in production processes. These techniques increase overall efficiency and enhance prediction accuracy and output of value-added products (Banerjee et al., 2025). Optimization of the bio processes enables higher productivity in parallel with lower environmental burdens. AI-based approaches integrated with conventional approaches need a large amount of experimental historical data to be successfully carried out (Arias et al., 2023). Advancement of biorefineries due to the rapid demand of value-added products as well as a solution to the greenhouse emissions, the integrated application of AI for process analysis needs to be understood. This chapter is a contribution towards upscaling the current knowledge base related to different approaches for the enhancement of production for value-added products. The chapter discusses the conventional techniques for value-added production and various optimization models. There is further discussion of advancements in the traditional approach using AI-based approaches and their features and benefits in biorefinery. Apart from different AI-based models, AI integrated with life cycle analysis for sustainability is also briefed. Finally, the chapter addresses current limitations in the field and outlines potential future directions for research and development.

5.1 Introduction
Bioprocess engineering is becoming more advanced form of technology due to the many changes taking place in the field. The world is in dire need for creative, well thought out, and innovative approaches to problems associated with sustainable biomanufacturing, treatment customization, and the production of bio-based goods. One of the most notable advancements is the rise of synthetic biology, which allows for bioproduction at unprecedented levels where microbes could be modified for better bioproduction. More traditional approaches is strain improvement and metabolic engineering, which revolve around mutation-based processes and other forms of gene transfer technologies. The applications of new, non-traditional methods such as machine learning and artificial intelligence have completely revolutionized the way bioprocessing and its monitoring, as well as optimization, is done. On top of that, the drive towards sustainability has further motivated the use of green bioprocessing techniques which aim to minimize environmental harm. In parallel with these advances, regenerative medicine and gene treatment is opening doors to a new era of personalized medicine. In a world where change is constant, these accomplishments and innovations help us to take full advantage of what bioprocess engineering has to offer, as well as face the intricate challenges that the modern world encounters (Awasthi, 2022). In recent years, the field of biotechnology has undergone transformative and profound change that is marked by new breakthroughs and improvement which can affect several fields such as medicine, agriculture, and ecology. The emergence of tools like CRISPR-Cas9, synthetic biology, bioprinting, precision medicine and regenerative medicine are some of the new trends in biotechnology. These changes are recognizing the limits on the biological sciences and expanding them at the same time. Synthetic biology is another technology that includes the strategy and production of new genomic parts, related tools, and re-designs of traditional ones for valuable purposes. The scientists are modifying living organisms to perform useful functions like manufacturing biofuels or pharmaceuticals. Synthetic biology raises concerns about biosecurity and the unintentional release of artificial organisms into the environment, despite its enormous potential to address global challenges like renewable energy and sustainable resource usage (Jain, 2022). This article introduces advancements in bioprocess engineering with specific focus on advancements brought about by emergence of CRISPR. Bioprocess engineering is the application of process engineering principles to biological systems and has been a multidisciplinary field unto itself. Since its isolation as a groundbreaking genome-editing system, CRISPR has vastly improved the precision, efficiency, and scalability of both microbial and mammalian cell manipulation. This has resulted in numerous breakthroughs in pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and industrial enzymes, a major milestone for synthetic biology, and metabolic engineering (Jinek et al., 2012). The International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants or UPOV is an intergovernmental organization with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. UPOV was established by the International Convention. The objective of the Convention is the protection of new varieties of plants by an intellectual property right. The Convention was adopted in Paris in 1961 and revised in 1972, 1978 and 1991. UPOV aims to encourage the development of new varieties of plants for the benefit of society by codifying intellectual property for plant breeders.

Evolution of the Internet

The Internet, as we know it today had a very humble beginning. J C R Licklider of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology envisioned the Internet as far back as 1962 in a series of memos written by him that talked about social interactions that could be enabled through networking, a concept that he termed his “Galactic Network”. He joined DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in October 1962 and was its first research head. There, in collaboration with Lawrence G Roberts and other scientists in 1965, the ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) was conceived. With other developments, ARPANET was transformed into the Internet as we know it today. The technology involved in this was a very basic packet switching network that later moved to include packet satellite networks, ground-based packet radio networks and other networks. In packet switching mode, the hub router, which acts as the intermediary, decides the best path for sending or receiving data packets, unlike circuit switching mode (used in telephony) in which there is a dedicated path by which the data travels from the source to the destination.

The future of networking was based on this skeleton. Further down the line, the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) was developed, which had the ability to address networks and machines further downstream. Other technologies like telnet, e-mail, internet telephony etc, were also developed subsequently. By 1990, the ARPANET was decommissioned and TCP/IP had displaced most other Wide Area Networking (WAN) protocols and was fast becoming the accepted protocol for internetworking. After a while, the World Wide Web (WWW) came into existence. A consortium called the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was formed in 1992 and it had taken on the responsibility for evolving the various protocols and standards associated with the web. Soon after this, commercialization of the internet started taking place. There was a marked increase in the number of communities across the internet. Bulletin Board Services and Usenet groups were now home to more computer users than ever before. With the advent of such information, corporations and businesses also started looking at the internet in terms of business viability. In 1994, Pizza Hut started offering pizza ordering on its Web page while First Virtual, the first ‘cyberbank’, launched its online presence. By this time, there were more than 38,64,000 hosts on the Internet. Since then, the Net has grown rapidly and the process continues to this day.

Though the Internet hit India in the late 1980s, it was deemed fit only for researchers and scientists. Commercial internet access was first introduced by VSNL in August 1995. Today internet in India has ballooned and India has become a giant in the IT Enabled Services (ITES) field. With falling internet access costs and increasing users, India’s ranking in terms of internet users is rising fast.

The Internet is growing at an amazing rate. The main reason for this is that the Internet has now become an accepted part of the mainstream urban life. It is used for almost everything imaginable, from recreation and entertainment to learning about rocket science. However, not everything about is good. There is an information overload and not all the data that is available is true and should not be accepted at face value. The internet is not limited to the PC anymore and has percolated down to various devices thanks to advancement in technologies like GPRS, EDGE, CDMA, WiFi etc. through which it can be accessed with a mobile device.

Agriculture plays a vital role in India’s economy 54.6 per cent of the total workforce was engaged in agricultural and allied sector activities (Census 2011). Agriculture sector is estimated to grow 3.9 per cent in 2021-22 on top of 3.6 per cent and 4.3 per cent, respectively in the previous two years. Agriculture sector accounts for 18.8 per cent of GVA in 2021-22 (Economic Survey 2021-22). The agricultural industry has experienced numerous issues, such as a shortage of food, because of the high cost of production and low yield per hectare. In certain situations, it has also grown more difficult to provide for their fundamental requirements, such as clothes and shelter. By boosting their income and purchasing power through agricultural inputs like fertilizers, insecticides, agricultural equipment, etc., agricultural marketers in India play a crucial role in the rural areas. The India is world's biggest producer of agricultural goods. Food grain output grew significantly during the 1960s and 1970s, with wheat and rice production rising. Compared to farmers in Western nations, farmers in countries like India, China, and Japan are more prone to growing cash crops.

Copper intoxication can happen through many sources such as environmental as well as occupational. Common sources are contaminated water, dietary sources, occupational exposure as well as medications. Abstract

For 99% of our time on Earth, humans have been hunter-gatherers, intricately connected to and reliant upon our local lands and waters for food, materials, medicines and shelter. In this time we have evolved a unique and in-depth knowledge base, termed local ecological knowledge or ecoliteracy, which has been essential to sustaining human and ecosystem health over thousands of years. However with livelihood diversification towards non-resource dependent strategies, the emergence of local markets as a consequence of globalisation, and global patterns of economic development, our collective local knowledge is now being lost. With the loss of local livelihoods and knowledge comes a departure from traditional food systems as hunters, fishers, and gatherers and cultivators lose the skills needed to locate, collect, preserve, prepare, consume and manage indigenous foods. Traditional food systems have provided nutritional health and food security for indigenous and marginalised communities for generations, and play a critical role in cultural continuity, social systems and ecosystem biodiversity.

A world view of Transportation system of renowned urban centers

While discussing urban regeneration and observing cities, it is impossible to overlook the importance of the transportation system and its impact on the urban form of a city. 3.1. Introduction

This chapter intends to examine the economic importance of cotton, turmeric and castor seed in the agricultural economy of Odisha. Given the fact that Odisha is one of the major producing states of the country for these three crops, their physical markets have national level relevance in terms of determining prices. The chapter presents a brief profile of the agricultural economy of Odisha with a focus on these three crops and their supply conditions including cropping season, pattern, area under cultivation and productivity. Secondly, it tries to investigate the market structure, supply chain and marketing practices in cotton, turmeric and castor seed based on the data obtained from the secondary sources.

Indian economy is agro-based and agriculture is its mainstay as it constitutes the backbone of the rural livelihood security system. Agriculture has been and still continues to be the life line of the Indian economy since economic security is essentially predicted upon the agricultural and allied sectors. The agriculture sector encompasses crop production, animal husbandry, fisheries, agri-business, etc. Crop production depends upon crucial inputs such as good seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation, human labour, machinery and management.

As the largest private enterprise in India, agriculture supports more than 60% of the population, contributes nearly 19% to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 11% to the total exports. Around 51% of the geographical area in India is already under cultivation as compared to 11% of the world average¹. Agriculture is also a social sector where non-trading concerns like food and nutritional security, employment and income generation, poverty alleviation, ecological and environmental concerns play a significant role.

The significant interest in the diffusion of innovations stems from the challenge of adopting new ideas, even those with clear advantages. A substantial gap often exists between available knowledge and its practical application across various fields. Many innovations experience a lengthy period, sometimes spanning several years, from their initial availability to widespread adoption. Consequently, individuals and organizations frequently grapple with the issue of accelerating the diffusion rate of an innovation.

Diffusion refers to the process by which an innovation is communicated over time through specific channels among members of a social system. This form of communication is distinct in that it involves the dissemination of new ideas. In contemporary society, information technologies like the Internet and mobile phones, which blend mass media and interpersonal communication, serve as powerful diffusion tools. The novelty of the idea in the communication content gives diffusion its unique character.

2.1 Geological and accelerated erosion

Erosion has always taken place, and always will. The surface of the earth is constantly changing, with mountains rising, valleys being cut deeper and wider, the coast line receding here and advancing there. The physical pattern of the surface of the earth which we see today is not the result of some single cataclysmic sculpturing but the result of changes so infinitely slow that only after centuries is the effect noticeable. Erosion is simply one of the aspects of the constant process of change. It is fundamental to the formation of alluvial soils and sedimentary rocks. Man’s activities seldom slow down or halt the process but frequently speed it up. We usually refer to geological erosion or normal erosion, or natural erosion when we mean that which results only from the forces of nature, and to accelerated erosion when the process is influenced by man.

When trying to predict the probable severity of man-made erosion it helps to consider the rate of geological erosion. If the conditions of climate and topography are such that geological erosion is quicker than usual, then these sameronditions will also lead to particularly severe accelerated erosion. Extreme examples of both kinds of erosion are shown in plates 2.1 and 2.2.

Introduction

After working for more than 10 years in set of private companies, Mr. A K Aggarwal joined a very large government organisation, ITN Ltd (ITNL) (refer to Exhibit 1). He, along with other two freshly recruited MBA graduates, was posted to a project location in the remote district of India after a brief stint at ITNL's corporate office. The top management posted them with a lot of expectation to implement one of the most critical projects of the company. In the first few weeks only, he observed a tussle between the field team and project manager Mr. Amaresh Sharma. This tussle was impeding the project progress. Being new in the organisation, Mr Aggarwal was hesitant to approach any body and was clueless about how to handle the situation. This was also a new situation for Mr. Sharma in his 20 years of ITNL career and he was facing difficulty in breaking this logjam.

Since the last decade discussion regarding ecology is being heard. A campaign with a great planning has launched by holding seminar conferences and meets. The ecological problem became a matter of tremendous panic and anxiety. Not only in India but also in entire world this problem is being discussed through all school, colleges and universities on international scale all over world, since it became universal issue now a days. The word ecology was not known to the people 20 years ago, never the less it became familiar even among the villages today. The people in villages are making thorough study of the subject. The experts of ecology from all over the world have been surprised to learn the exhaustive study of the same done by the Indian scholars. We have instituted a separate ministry to look after the environmental problems. The activities injurious to environment are prohibited. An act is there to restrict antienvironmental deeds what made scientists all over the world to take this matter so seriously. Does it mean that the very existence of mankind has been jeopardized by it Let us see what our ancient literature say about the ecology and pollution.

Packaging is not only an integral part of product presentation but also plays a vital role in preserving food quality and extending its shelf life. In a world where food must travel vast distances from producers to consumers, often across varying climates and storage conditions, effective packaging is essential. It serves multiple functions, from protecting food against physical, chemical, and biological hazards to providing a medium for branding, regulatory compliance, and consumer convenience. This chapter explores the fundamental need for packaging in the food industry, emphasizing how packaging contributes to the safety, longevity, and accessibility of food products. By examining the protection, preservation, distribution, and sustainability aspects of packaging, this chapter highlights its significance in modern food production and distribution systems. 2.1. Protection, Preservation

Introduction

Plant paprasitic nematodes are one of the limiting factors in the production of horticultural crops in the country. The visible symptoms of nematode attack are: Reduced individual plant growth, varying degrees of chlorosis, wilting of the foliage and sometimes death of the plants.

The roots, damaged by nematodes are not efficient in the utilization of available moisture and nutrients in soil resulting in reduced functional metabolism. Nematode infested roots are easily infected by various pathogenic fungi and bacteria and aggrevate root damage. These deleterious effects on plant growth result in reduced yield and poor quality of crops as in citrus, banana, grapevine, pineapple, papaya and vegetable crops. Decline or death of highly prised ornamentals and turf is often the result of nematode infestation.

4.1 THE NURSERY
We distinguish several types of nurseries among which we have Permanent nursery and Temporal or Seasonal nursery.
4.1.1 Permanent nursery
Permanent nursery is a large nursery destined to produce large number of plants for several years or in other words, the place is used for several years even if the plantation center is far. It is also called the central or industrial nursery. For example, the Cameroon Development Corporation [CDC] with head quarter in Limbe has its central nursery in Bota – Limbe. Here oil palm seedlings are being transported from the nursery in Limbe to the Bomboko area in Idenau Subdivision and Illoani in Ndian Division. A special management practices is being carried out in this type of nursery notably:
• Access road for vehicles accessible in all seasons ;
• Forecast annual rotation of surface area and annual production of plants;
• Forecast species with permanent shelter to serve for the protection of pots;
• Anticipated area for irrigation systems;
• Construct a shade, store, office and a guard’s room;
• Forecast methods of plant preservation for plants destined to be transported to far stations.
