The study of Veterinary Anatomy is an integral part of Veterinary Science as it evolved as a keystone of veterinary education through ages. Osteology (study of bones) is the essential part of the anatomy teaching curriculum. The bones are unsurpassed in the ability to provide the information on the three dimensional form and architecture of the body. It also helps in understanding the disposition and relations of soft tissues along with the course of neurovascular structures in that region. For osteological study, the bones are collected from the carcasses and are duly processed. Bone preparation involves soft tissue removal, cleaning and bleaching of bones and joints, articulation and labeling. The skin, visceral organs and the maximum possible amount of flesh adhering to the bones are removed by knife. Such bones are called wet bones. The whole skeleton is disarticulated; however, the pedal bones are left with the hoof. In case of skull, the mandible is dismembered and the mouth parts are removed. The tongue is carefully sliced to locate the hyoid bone. It is separated at the hyoid process of the petrous temporal bone. The brain is lacerated and goosed out of cranial cavity with a stick through the foramen magnum. The eyeball is carefully extirpated without any injury to the orbit. The nasal cavity is left untouched with the turbinates and cartilages intact. Following steps are involved in processing of bones and preparation of skeleton.

The whole brain or its slices could be stained for differentiation of the areas of gray and white matter for better understanding of macroscopic neuroanatomy. Various researchers have developed the methods of staining of either the whole brain or its slices. The review of all these methods is being detailed below. These would definitely help the teachers and students to teach and grasp the macroscopic details of central nervous system viz. nuclei, laminae, fascicule, capsule and other structures with little or no magnification.
Staining of Whole Brain and Sections from its Slices (Hewitt, 1959)
Fixation of whole brain in either 70% alcohol or 10% formaldehyde without removal of membranes and blood vessels.
Protocol
1. The collected whole brain is immersed in ten volumes of staining fluid.
2. The staining fluid can be resaturated, when ever it becomes paler and clearer in colour, then it can be used in smaller volume in proportion to the volume of brain for the next staining.
3. Complete staining is assessed by uniform red colouration of the brain. A cats’ brain requires at least 1 month and the human brain not less than 6 months. The time required is governed by size of the brain. The brain stem is cut of about 5 mm thickness to examine the completion of the staining.
4. The stained brain is immersed in ten volumes of 70% alcohol for differentiation.

It is an inherent, distinctive and implicit human nature to preserve and care for objects that seem unique, rare and adorable. This instinctive desire of the human mind must have invented the concept of museum. The word museum derives from the Greek word “Mousein” which mean “Seat of the Muses”. The muses are the divine patron of arts in Greek Mythology.
A museum by definition is “An institution that houses and cares for a collection of artifacts and other objects of scientific, artistic or historical importance and makes them available for public viewing through exhibitions that may be permanent or temporary (Alexander and Alexander 2008; Kamath et al., 2014). The anatomy museum comes under the category of science museum. Anatomy museum define as a place where bones, models, charts wet specimen of permanent value are kept and displayed. It has to be designed to function as an institute where active leaning can take place (Kamath et al., 2016).
The museums now witnessed a transition from an institute housing a collection of models and artistic sketches to one housing formalin preserved specimens, corrosion casts and plastinates. The contemporary museums have sophisticated interiors, display, lightings and use computerized catalogues and audio-visual aids to teach anatomy.
History
The concept of anatomy museum was first conceived by the Edinburg Surgeons in 1763 A.D. A cabinet with anatomical picture books and few specimens was first prepared and named as cabinet of curiosities. Early museums housing a simple collection of wood, clay, wax or ivory models of anatomical specimens.
The discovery of formalin in 1859 by Alexander Mikhailovich Butlerov was a great milestone in anatomical history and changed the, manner of anatomical specimen presentation. Later on discovery of different methods significantly make transition in the nature of collection exhibited in anatomy museum.

A useful method for quickly preparing tissue slides for microscopic analysis is the frozen section technique. There are numerous clinical and research contexts where the frozen section technique is employed. For quick intraoperative diagnosis in histopathology, frozen sections are frequently utilized, giving our surgical colleagues direction. To ascertain the extent of excision required to remove a skin tumour, the surgeon doing Mohs Micrographic Surgery depends solely on the frozen sections. The frozen section technique is used in many scientific applications to create microscopic slides using a variety of complex morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular techniques. There are several uses for frozen sections, including rapid diagnosis, immunohistochemistry, enzyme histochemistry, lipid detection, cancer margin research, and more. Making frozen section slides is a difficult technical procedure that calls for the mastery of advanced technical abilities in addition to knowledge of the pathology, microanatomy, and histology of the tissues under investigation. The outcomes will depend on our capacity to produce a high-quality preparation, whether it is utilized for research or intraoperative consulting. Dr. Louis B. Wilson’s 1905 description served as the basis for the frozen section technique used in medical labs today. At the request of surgeon Dr. William Mayo, one of the founders of the Mayo Clinic, Wilson devised the procedure based on previous studies. A frozen section was also used in earlier reports by Dr. Thomas S. Cullen of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, but only after formalin fixation. Dr. William Welch, a pathologist at Hopkins, also tried Cullen’s technique, but there were no negative clinical effects. Wilson is therefore widely acknowledged as having really invented the procedure.

Lectins are sugar-binding proteins or glycoprotein of non-immune origin. In 1954 William C. Boyd alone and then together with Elizabeth Shapleigh introduced term ‘lectin’ from the Latin word lego- ‘chosen’ (from the verb legere ‘to choose’ or ‘pick out’).The earliest description of a lectin is believed to have been given by Peter Hermann Stillmark in his doctoral thesis presented in 1888 to the University of Dorpat. Stillmark isolated ricin, an extremely toxic hemagglutinin, from seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis).
History
Lectins, although first discovered more than 100 years ago in plants, and defined by their ability to selectively recognize specific carbohydrate structures, are ubiquitous in living organisms and throughout nature. Long before a deeper understanding of their numerous biological functions, the plant lectins, also known as phytohemagglutinins, were noted for their particularly high specificity for foreign HYPERLINK https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycoconjugate glycoconjugates (e.g. those of fungi, invertebrates, and animals) and used in biomedicine for blood cell testing and in biochemistry for fractionation.
Hundreds of lectins of plant and animal origin have been described, and the list continues to increase. The first lectin to be purified on a large scale and available on a commercial basis was concanavalin A, which is now the mostused lectin for characterization and purification of sugar-containing molecules and cellular structures. The legume lectins are probably the most well-studied lectins.

Scanning electron-microscopes are available nowadays which operate at high vacuum as well as low vacuum mode. Low vacuum mode allows viewing of wet samples, but compromise on very high resolution and high magnification images. In high vacuum mode the samples must be absolutely dry and free of any organic contaminants to avoid gas molecules interfering with both the primary electron beam and the secondary or backscattered electrons emitted from the sample. Biological specimens which are largely composed of water, necessitate additional preparatory steps to ensure that structure of the organism is retained in its natural form.
Sample preparation is essential in scanning electron microscopy. Improper sample preparations can undermine the quality of results and lead to false conclusions. SEM, unlike TEM, allows the processing of larger sized organisms and tissues. For Biological samples the smallest representative sample size should be used as the microscope’s detection capacity is as much as 1μm from the sample surface.
Samples for SEM preparations are normally collected by biopsy/ dissection/ sacrificing of an animal to remove tissues from the main body. Incisions should be done with fresh sharp blades to avoid tissue deformation from the physical forces applied with blunt blades. Collected samples should be immediately transferred to vial containing the fixative for fixation.
Microbial cultures fixation of bacteria and fungus needs to be carried out under strict safety measures. Biosafety cabinets should be used wherever possible and sample should be removed from the biosafety cabinets only after the

Nanotechnology is manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular, and supramolecular scale. The earliest, widespread description of nanotechnology referred to the particular technological goal of precisely manipulating atoms and molecules for fabrication of macroscale products, also now referred to as molecular nanotechnology.
Nanotechnology as the manipulation of matter with at least one dimension sized from 1 to 100 nanometers. This definition reflects the fact that quantum mechanical effects are important at this quantum- realm scale, and so the definition shifted from a particular technological goal to a research category inclusive of all types of research and technologies that deal with the special properties of matter which occur below the given size threshold. It is therefore common to see the plural form "nanotechnologies" as well as "nanoscale technologies" to refer to the broad range of research and applications whose common trait is size.
Introduction
A nanometer (nm) is one thousand millionth of a meter. A single human hair is about 80,000 nm wide; a red blood cell is approximately 7,000 nm wide, a DNA molecule 2 to 2.5 nm, and a water molecule almost 0.3 nm. The term ”nanotechnology” was created by Norio Taniguchi of Tokyo University in 1974 to describe the precision manufacture of materials with nanometer tolerances, but its origins date back to Richard Feynman’s 1959 talk ”There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” in which he proposed the direct manipulation of individual atoms as a more powerful form of synthetic chemistry. Eric Drexler of MIT expanded Taniguchi’s definition and popularised nanotechnology in his 1986 book “Engines of Creation: The Coming Era of Nanotechnology”. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals aim to address global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice (Fig. 14.1).

Policy plays a critical role in shaping the future of agricultural sciences. It determines the resources allocated to research, the inclusivity of publishing practices, and the extent of global collaboration (Fig. 15.1).
This chapter outlines actionable policy recommendations to support equitable publishing, strengthen research infrastructure, and encourage global partnerships. Furthermore, it delves into the importance of fostering interdisciplinary research and emphasizes why agricultural sciences need to continue gaining momentum in the face of global challenges.
15.1. Equitable Publishing Practices
Access to academic publishing remains a significant challenge for researchers in developing countries. High article processing charges (APCs) for open-access journals often exclude underfunded institutions and individual researchers. Policy interventions are essential to create a more equitable publishing ecosystem.
15.1.1. Subsidies for Open Access Publishing
Governments and funding agencies should subsidize APCs for researchers from low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). For instance, the Plan S initiative-backed by organizations like the European Science Foundation—aims to make all publicly funded research open access (Plan S, 2018).

A chromosome is a thread-like self-replicating genetic structure containing organized DNA molecule package found in the nucleus of the cell. Clear and detaile decriptions of mitotic chromosomes in plants and animals were published by Strasburger in 1875 and by the German scientist Walter Flemming in 1879- 1882.Heinrich Wilhelm Gottfried Waldeyer coined the term chromosome in 1888.
Normally Chromosomes are of two types
Autosomes - Control characters other than sex characters or carry genes for somatic characters.
Sex chromosomes (S    
Humans and most other mammals have two sex chromosomes X & Y, also called heterosome, odd chromosome, or idiosome. Females have two X chromosomes in diploid cells; males have an X and a Y chromosome. In birds the female (ZW) is hetero-gametic and male (ZZ) is homo-gametic.
Haploid: Haploid cells (N) have only one copy of each chromosome.
Diploid: Diploid cells (2N where N- chromosome number) have two homologous copies of each chromosome. The body cells of animals are diploid.In animals, gametes (sperm and eggs) are haploid.
Homologous Chromosomes
Diploid organisms have two copies of each chromosome (except the sex chromosomes). Both the copies are ordinarily identical in morphology, gene content and gene order and hence known as homologous chromosomes.Each pair of chromosomes made up of two homologs.
Homologous chromosome is inherited from separate parents; one homolog comes from the mother and the other comes from the father.

1. Introduction
Molecular techniques are laboratory methods used to study and manipulate DNA, RNA, and proteins. These techniques are crucial for analyzing and understanding the molecular basis of biological processes and have applications in various fields like medicine, agriculture, and forensics.
2. Molecular Marker Analysis
Molecular markers can be expressed as a DNA sequence or gene expression product that represents differences in genomic level in relation to a gene or a property. Molecular markers are markers that can be used to monitor differences at the DNA level and for a gene that is being investigated. DNA markers are also DNA regions in which polymorphism in individuals within a species can be determined.
Molecular markers are nontissue-specific DNA regions that are reliable, repeatable, standardizable, capable of identifying multiple regions in the genome, capable of identifying more than one region in the genome, independent of environmental conditions, dominant and codominant.
Molecular markers are classified as dominant and codominant markers. Heterozygous individuals cannot be distinguished from homozygous dominant individuals, since dominant markers are not suitable for identification of heterozygous individuals when related to dominance between alleles is dominated by dominant markers. Thus, three different individuals (AA, AA and AA) can be distinguished for any marker at any point.
The use of molecular marker systems based on this meta-analysis has become more prevalent in genetic studies conducted by the discovery of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The rapid development of technology and the accompanying needs, the facilities of the laboratories where the applications will occur, the biological properties of the species and the abundance of markers in the genome have contributed to the development of DNA markers [5]. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), randomly amplified polymorphic DNA markers (RAPD), amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP), sequence labeled sequences (STS), microsatellites (SSR), cleaved polymorphic sequence (CAPS), single strand such as complementary polymorphism (SSCP), amplicon length polymorphism (ALP), interspecific sequence repeat polymorphism (ISSR),

There are two assumptions necessary involved in the regression of repeatability. These are:
• The variances of the different measurements are equal and have their components in the same proportions, and
• The different measurements reflect genetically the same character. If these assumptions are not valid the repeatability concept becomes vague without precise meaning in relation to the variance components.
The repeatability differs very much depending on the following:
• The nature of the trait.
• The genetic properties of the population.
• Environmental conditions under which the individuals are kept or raised.
Repeatability indicates the proportion of observed differences in performance between animals caused by differences in real producing ability. That is say, repeatability of butterfat yield is 0.40, and if a cow has an age corrected butter fat yield of 30 kilograms above the herd average, her near producing ability will be equal to 30x 0.40 = 12 kg. above the herd average. This can also be explained in a different way, i.e., if two cows differ in one lactation by 30 kg in butter fat yield. They will have difference of 12 kg of butter fat in the next lactation.
Repeatability has a value 0 to 1 and may also be expressed in percentage. Repeatability of a trait is not a constant, and measurements error or generally, varying environmental conditions tend to increase VEt and thus to decrease repeatability, shrode et al (1960) have shown the effect of a change in environmental conditions on repeatability. They obtained repeatabilities of milk yield, butter fat yield and fat percentage as 0.37, 0.32 and 0.7 respectively and after improving the management removed some of the environmental variations that had marked the cows real producing abilities.

Definition: Heterosis is defined as the percent increase in the performance of outbred animals over the average of their parents.
The mean superiority of hybrids over the average of their parental lines is called heterosis. Heterosis or hybrid vigor is the increased vigor of the offspring over that of the parents when unrelated individuals are mated. Hybrid vigor includes greater viability, faster growth rate, greater milk production and greater wool production in domestic animals. The amount by which the hybrids exceed the mean performance of better parent is called heterobeltiosis or Euheterosis. The term heterosis was coined by G.H. Shull (1914). Heterosis or hybrid vigour is synonym to each other. However, the heterosis is a phenomena exhibited by an individual or a group of individuals due to heterozygosity of genes. Heterosis in quantitative terms can also be defined as the non-additive gene action. While “hybrid vigour” is the resultant of heterosis phenomena expressed phenotypically by an increase in vigour, size, production, reproduction, survival rate, growth, and economic returns etc. the heterosis is a measure of extent magnitude of out breeding.
In livestock, hybrids may be produced by crossing between two species/breeds/ lines/strains. Technically, heterosis may be positive or negative. However, the desirability of a trait is more important than the sign of heterosis. In some cases, the negative heterosis could be a desirable one (e.g. age at first lay, age at first calving, calving interval, back fat thickness etc.). The amount of heterosis obtained usually depends upon the extent of heterozygosity attained by the hybrids, which in turn is based on the diversity of sire and dam lines crossed. It also depends upon the degree of dominance, over dominance and/ or for which the heterosis is exhibited. Thus, the main causes of heterosis are directional dominance, over dominance and epistasis.

It is imperative that the country should develop strategic planning so that available resources in different agro ecological zones of the country to exploited judiciously and utilize sustainably for further enhancing the productivity of cattle and buffaloes. Therefore, agroclimatic region and animal production system-based breeding policy strategies with a focus on large scale implementations of improved animal genetics and breeding innovations by development organizations with active participation of farmers/breeders are discussed here. Before developing sustainable breeding strategies for improving the productivity performance of a particular breed/genetic group of animal population in a given agro-climatic region, it is necessary to have a comprehensive details of population size of breed along with analysis of existing activities such as farmer/breeder’s perceptions and socio-economic levels, agriculture and livestock production systems, available feed and fodder resources, animal genetic resources, their production potentials and utilization pattern, breeding organizations, infrastructure and development facilities . The Quinquennial All India Livestock Census contains information on the herd/flock structure, sex, age, etc. and it does not reflect the factual situation about the status of breeds in terms of their population. Hence, the actual population of each breed and their geographical distribution is not clearly known. The correct picture about these breeds would be available only when breed-wise census of the livestock is carried out and status and performance of breeds are surveyed in their natural habitat and the same has been initiated in the recent survey . In the back ground of the collected and collated information on all above aspects, following region specific animal breeding strategies can be planned for conservation and genetic improvement of bovine genetic resources under different animal production systems.

Radio Pharmaceuticals

For instance, diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals are typically designed to emit low-level gamma rays that can be detected by imaging equipment such as positron emission tomography (PET) or single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scanners. Therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, on the other hand, deliver targeted radiation to destroy cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.

CCSEA’s guidelines are in line with international standards set forth by organizations such as the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS) and the European Union (EU), but they are tailored to address local needs and conditions. The guidelines, which focus on the welfare of laboratory animals, emphasize the ethical review process, animal care, and the importance of minimizing animal suffering. They also stress the need for researchers to implement the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—to minimize the use of animals and ensure humane practices in research. This chapter explores the CCSEA guidelines in detail and compares them with animal welfare regulations from around the world, including the United States, European Union, Japan, and Australia. By understanding the similarities and differences between these regulations, researchers and policymakers can ensure the ethical treatment of laboratory animals on a global scale.
2. Objectives of CCSEA Guidelines
The main objective of the CCSEA guidelines is to ensure that laboratory animals are treated ethically and humanely while also supporting the validity and scientific rigor of research. The guidelines encourage researchers to prioritize animal welfare while minimizing unnecessary suffering. Specifically, CCSEA focuses on:
1. Ethical Treatment of Animals: Ensuring that animals are housed in suitable conditions, given adequate veterinary care, and provided with a comfortable environment to reduce stress.

Severe food shortages due to short comings and mismanagement of agriculture will have long lasting effect. In recent years, the uncertainties in agriculture are increasing due to climate change and farmers are required to be very vigilant and cautions right from planning of field operations till they recover their investment and end up with better returns. The governments all over the world are very much cautious of the problems of the farmers. There is greater realization that strengthening meteorological services to generate accurate and timely weather forecasts is the starting point to help farmers in carrying out appropriate management practices to ensure better crop production and minimise the risks associated with unfavourable weather situations. The farmers can manage to take their own decisions with regard to choice of crops, land preparation, fertilizer applications, weed control, irrigation scheduling etc which are of routine nature (Fig.19.1). But there are several issues for which farmers do not have adequate knowledge just based on weather forecast. It is now very much realised all over the world that there is need to transform the weather forecasts into an actionable operational agrometeorological advisories based on sound scientific hypothesis and authentic database. Though it appears to be very simple and easy solution, the agencies that

In cropped soils, evaporation refers to evaporation of water from the soil and transpiration refers to evaporation of water from plant canopies (Fig.6.1). Evaporation and transpiration play very significant role in mass and energy transfer. The latent heat of vaporization is defined as amount of heat required to evaporate 1 gm of water at a temperature of 100°C; i.e. the boiling point of water is 540 cal/gm. The amount of heat required for evaporation of water at ordinary temperature of about say 30°C is 610 cal/gm.

Introduction
The modernization of farming systems across the country is transforming agriculture. Yet, public extension services often struggle to keep pace with the growing demands for knowledge dissemination due to widen gap between farmers and extension agent i.e., 5000:1 (Ragasa et al.,2013). Also, only 6.8% farmers receive extension services directly from state extension agency (GFRAS, 2012). The complexity of modern farming systems, encompassing decisions about land use, crop selection, and market access, underscores the importance of tailored specific knowledge. Strong public extension services typically reach only about 10% of farmers, a figure further constrained by limited operational resources (Bell, 2015). This gap is exacerbated by limited resources and infrastructure. In this context, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) emerges as a game-changer, offering innovative solutions to address these challenges and empower farmers with crucial insights. The integration of ICT in agriculture is revolutionizing the way knowledge and services reach farmers, especially in resource-constrained and remote regions. ICTs, such as mobile technology, have demonstrated significant potential in extending the reach of agricultural extension services. For instance, mobile hotlines now enable farmers to obtain technical advice and market information, including price updates and market locations (Aker and Mbiti, 2010). Such tools empower users, particularly in remote areas, to access vital information and communicate efficiently (Aker, 2011). To meet farmers’ diverse and specialized information needs, ICT-based models must bridge these gaps effectively. However, the success of ICT interventions depends heavily on affordability and the customization of information to address the highly localized nature of agriculture (McNamara et al., 2011; Bell, 2015).
Digital Choupal
Recognizing these challenges, Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, has pioneered an innovative solution by introducing Digital Choupal through videoconferencing facilities at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs) and colleges of the university across the state. This initiative has supported agricultural extension by significantly reducing the barriers posed by distance and resource limitations. Bihar, a densely populated state in India with 1,102 people per sq. km, faces significant challenges in its agricultural sector. Employing around 75% of the workforce and contributing 35% to the GDP, agriculture remains a vital part of the state’s economy. However, technology adoption is slow, particularly in rural areas, due to poor connectivity and limited communication infrastructure. Less than half of Bihar’s villages are connected by roads, and access to trained extension personnel is scarce. These limitations hinder the dissemination of agricultural innovations and the provision of real-time advisory to farmers, which are essential for enhancing productivity and improving livelihoods. This innovative approach has redefined agricultural outreach, ensuring that even the most remote farmers can connect with experts and benefit from customized training and guidance.

Introduction
Three districts of South Gujarat i.e., Surat, Navsari and Valsad are front-runners in horticulture cultivation. These are also part of an agri-export zone for fruits and vegetables. But, the life of these fruit- farmers was made miserable by tiny fruit fly which is a major pest of mango, sapota and cucurbits. Intensity of damage recorded was as high as over 30 per cent in mango and sapota, and between 20-40 per cent in cucurbitaceous vegetables. Fruit flies cause heavy damage in terms of quality and quantity to the farmers every year. Insecticidal sprays, control infestation little bit, but they are not only uneconomical but they leave residual effect much above tolerance limit, adversely affecting the prospects of export of such fruits and vegetables. Fruit flies are a modern-day pestilence which ravage production. These flies, moreover, are good fliers and therefore their spread is extensive. Hence, area wide adoption of management strategy is required. Male Annihilation Technique (MAT), an Integrated Pest Management Technique (IPM), which uses sexual lures to capture males of fruit flies and kill them, is the only way to control growth and spread of fruit flies. This however, requires a community approach for implementation. Navsari Agricultural University designed, developed and commercialized an eco-friendly, economical and easily adoptable fruit fly trap popularly known as “Nauroji-Stonehouse Fruit Fly Trap”. The trap uses Methyl Eugenol and Cue lure as par pheromones well-known for fruit flies. In this trap, plywood blocks are soaked in the solution of lures + solvent + insecticide. Such traps remain effective for 5 to 6 months, which cover the entire fruiting period in mangos, sapota as well as cucurbitaceous vegetables and no recharge is necessary. It is eco- friendly, economical and easily adoptable. It was decided to adopt this technology and spread it in the Surat- Navsari- Valsad belt for controlling and managing the fruit fly problem. It was also recognized that wide area adoption would help in developing this zone as a Pest Free Area (PFA). The project was taken up under RKVY.
About the Technology Addressed and Extension Management Practices
Nauroji-Stonehouse Fruits Fly Traps are prepared in food quality Testing Laboratory, NAU Navsari. Six talukas viz, Gandevi, Chikhali, Valsad, Pardi, Dharampur and Kaprada of Navsari and Valsad districts were selected for the purpose. A block of orchards in each village in each Taluka was selected for first year implementation. Other blocks were selected during the following years.

Introduction
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the most important tuberous, starchy and versatile food crop belongs to family Solanaceae. In India potato is grown in an area of 2.07 Mha with a production of 48 MT and a productivity of 23.19 MT/ha. The potato producing major states in India are Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka. In Karnataka, the crop is grown in an area of 44,160 ha with an annual production of 5,89,120 MT and productivity of 13.34 t/ha (Anonymous, 2014). Further in Karnataka Potato is mainly grown in Hassan, Belgaum, Dharwad, Chikkaballapur and Kolar districts. Hassan district alone contributes more than 41 per cent of potato production in the state (Bhajantri 2011). Basically potato prefers relatively low temperature during early growth and cool weather during tuber development. It requires 25°C temperature at the time of sprouting, 20°C for vegetative growth and 17 to 20°C for tuber development. ARC saplings are mainly used for seed tuber production at a quicker rate. Farmers can produce zero generation seed tubers from ARC saplings without any shipping costs involved. In this regard KVK, Hassan after knowing the existence of innovative ARC sapling technology from the International Center for Potato (CIP), German innovation center (GIZ/GIC) Bengaluru, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kandali, Hassan procured tissue culture bottles/mother culture from CPRI, Shimla Himachala Pradesh through CIP, GIZ/GIC Bengaluru. By using the mother culture KVK Hassan has produced approximately two lakhs ARC saplings with existing facility and conducted the field evaluation studies on “Performance and evaluation of Apical Rooted Potato saplings in Hassan district”.
About the Technologies Addressed
The ICAR-KVK, Hassan has introduced two technologies in potato during last decade to improve the yield and to reduce the cost of production, namely, Apical Rooted Cuttings (ARC) for quality seed tuber production and Mechanization in Potato to reduce the labour requirement and drudgery. The ARC is a technology where small portion of disease free mother tuber is collected and multiplied under aseptic conditions (Tissue culture) in a growing media to produce new and healthy plantlets. Nestled in the heart of Karnataka, Tumakuru District is renowned for its verdant landscapes dotted with vast expanses of coconut and areca nut plantations. The region’s unique climatic conditions, characterized by a harmonious blend of sunshine and seasonal rains, create an ideal environment for the growth of coconut palms, which have become a staple of both the local economy and the cultural fabric of the community. Historically, coconut trees have not only provided sustenance but have also played a pivotal role in the livelihoods of many families in Tumakuru. The fruit is a key ingredient in various local dishes and is widely utilized in traditional ceremonies and celebrations. However, the task of harvesting coconuts from these towering trees has long been a physically demanding endeavour. Traditionally, skilled climbers would ascend the tall, slender trunks, utilizing their agility and experience to pluck coconuts by hand. This craft, which once flourished, has now seen a decline, making it increasingly challenging for coconut planters to find professionals who can perform this labour-intensive task. The decline in manpower has made it evident that traditional methods are no longer sustainable. If coconut farmers wish to keep pace with growing market demands, a new approach is necessary one that balances traditional harvesting practices with modern technology. Recognizing this need, innovative minds have introduced the “Coconut Tree Climber”, a mechanized device specifically designed to address the challenges faced by coconut planters. The Coconut Tree Climber is a user-friendly and efficient device that significantly simplifies the process of climbing and harvesting. Built with a strong and adjustable mechanism, the device allows a person to securely climb tall coconut trees with minimal physical effort. More importantly, it drastically reduces the risk of accidents, ensuring the safety of the user. Unlike traditional methods that rely solely on human strength, the device takes advantage of mechanical power, enabling planters to harvest coconuts faster, safer, and more efficiently. This innovation has proven to be a game-changer in the coconut farming industry. Not only does it empower farmers to become self-reliant, but it also minimizes their dependence on skilled climbers. Additionally, the device can be operated by individuals of varying ages and physical strength, making it accessible to a broader range of people. This, in turn, provides new employment opportunities for those who may not have had the physical ability or training to climb trees in the past.

Introduction
In the paradigm of development, the Government of India generated a Central Sector Scheme for the people associated with agriculture – a sector contributing to 18.2 per cent of the nation’s GDP, titled “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Produce Organizations (FPOs)” with major focus on upheaval of farming community. With well-defined strategy and committed resources the Scheme is set-out to formulate 10,000 new FPOs in the country with budgetary provision of Rs 6865 crore. At the core of formation of each FPO, that are to be developed in produce clusters, wherein agricultural and horticultural produces are grown / cultivated for leveraging economies of scale and improving market access for members. “One District-One Product” cluster to promote specialization and better processing, marketing, branding & export. Under this Central Sector Scheme with funding from Government of India, Formation & Promotion of FPOs are to be done through the Implementing Agencies (IAs). Presently 09 Implementing Agencies (IAs) have been finalized for formation and promotion of FPOs viz. Small Farmers Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC), National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), Tamil Nadu-Small Farmers Agri-Business Consortium (TN-SFAC), Small Farmers Agri-Business Consortium Haryana (SFACH), Watershed Development Department (WDD)- Karnataka, and Foundation for Development of Rural Value Chains (FDRVC)- Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD). The Implementing Agencies (IAs) engage Cluster Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) to aggregate, register & provide professional handholding support to each FPO for a period of 5 years. CBBOs have been empanelled & engaged by IAs. CBBOs operate as an end-to-end knowledge for all issues related to FPO promotion. During 2020-21, a total of 2200 FPO produce clusters were allocated for formation of FPOs, which also include specialized FPO produce clusters such as 100 FPOs for Organic, 100 FPOs for Oil seeds, etc. Of these, 369 FPOs are targeted for 115 aspirational districts in the country. Additionally, NAFED would form the specialized FPOs which should necessarily be forwardly linked to the market, agri-value chain, etc. NAFED will provide market and value chain linkages to the FPOs formed by other Implementing Agencies. NAFED has formed & registered 05 Honey FPOs during current year in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and West Bengal. FPOs are earmarked to provide financial assistance upto Rs 18.00 lakh per FPO for a period of 03 years. In addition to this, provision has been made for matching equity grant upto Rs. 2,000 per farmer member of FPO with a limit of Rs. 15.00 lakh per FPO and a credit guarantee facility upto Rs. 2 crore of project loan per FPO from eligible lending institution to ensure institutional credit accessibility to FPOs.

Rural entrepreneurship is not only important as a means of generating employment opportunities in the rural areas with low capital cost and raising the real income of the people, but also its contribution to the development of agriculture and urban industries Building capacity of Rural Agri-prenuers are a promising solution for unemployment (Renuka, 2020), migration, economic disparity, reduce poverty, development of rural areas and backward regions. Most of the rural populace is associated with agriculture and allied activities as pedigree occupation. However, to be commercially viable, these units need to sharpen their skill sets to thrive as a successful venture. India is home to about 700 tribal groups with a population of 104 million, as per 2011 census. This indigenous people constitute the second largest tribal population in the world after Africa. Tribal population of Jammu & Kashmir is among the nascent Tribal Groups joining the main stream of planned development, to which they have brought a distinct and colourful cultural variety. Their economy is closely linked with the forests and they are living a substandard life because of their primitive mode of livelihood. Majority of them are placed below the poverty line, possessing meagre assets and are exclusively dependent on wages, forest produce and farming, that too in a traditional way which leads to non remunerative returns. The peculiar aspect of tribals of our state is their scattered population who inhabit the difficult and remote geographic terrains which poses a severe threat to their speedy development. In J&K state the following communities have been declared as scheduled tribes 1. Balti, 2. Beda, 3. Bot, Bota, 4. Brokpa, Drokpa, Dard, Shin, 5. Changpa, Garran, 6. Mon, 8. Purigpa, 9. Gujjar, 10. Bakerwal, 11. Gaddi and 12. Sippi.

Antimicrobials—including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics—are the cornerstone of modern medicine. Their discovery transformed the treatment of infectious diseases and enabled surgical advances, chemotherapy, and organ transplantation. However, Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin, warned that misuse could render these drugs ineffective. Antibiotics, since their discovery in the 20th century, revolutionized healthcare, saving millions of lives and enabling complex medical procedures. Yet, the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in human health, veterinary practices, and agriculture have rapidly accelerated the emergence of resistant organisms. Today, this warning has materialized as a global crisis. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is now considered one of the top ten public health threats by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is not only a biomedical issue but also a socio-economic and developmental challenge. This chapter aims to provide an in-depth overview of AMR, focusing on definitions, history, mechanisms, causes, global status, impacts, and the urgency of mitigation efforts. It also explores national and global responses and future directions to curb the spread of AMR. AMR is estimated to cause 700,000 deaths annually worldwide, with projections of 10 million deaths annually by 2050 if urgent interventions are not implemented. In addition to health impacts, AMR poses grave threats to food security, sustainable agriculture, economic stability, and global development. It is estimated that bacterial AMR was directly responsible for 1.27 million global deaths in 2019 and contributed to 4.95 million deaths (Murray et al., 2019).Despite its magnitude, public awareness of AMR remains low. Unlike tobacco smoke, antibiotics are potentially life-saving medications, but it is just as vital to understand the risks of overuse and their impact on future effectiveness in society as a whole (Langfordet al., 2019). Effective risk communication is essential to addressing AMR because it not only informs professional and community stakeholders but also nurturesbehaviour change across sectors. Within a One Health framework, risk communication connects human medicine, veterinary practice, agriculture, and environmental management, ensuring coordinated responses to reduce misuse and overuse of antimicrobials. This article explores the role of risk communication in combating AMR, highlighting global lessons, challenges, and strategies to strengthen communication systems for sustainable containment.
The Growing Threat of AMR
AMR occurs when microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve mechanisms to resist drugs that once effectively treated them. Misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in human health, livestock, aquaculture, and crop production accelerate resistance. According to WHO, AMR is projected to cause 10 million deaths annually by 2050 if left unaddressed (O’Neill, 2016). In countries like India, with high infectious disease burdens and large-scale antimicrobial consumption, the risks are particularly acute. Communicating these risks clearly and effectively is critical for influencing prescribing practices, agricultural use, and community awareness.Persistent misconceptions include beliefs that antibiotics are effective against viral illnesses and the mistaken notion that it is the human body, rather than bacteria, that develops resistance (Muflihet al., 2021). These knowledge gaps are often linked to insufficient or ineffective health communication (Krockowet al., 2023), sparse media coverage compared to threats like sepsis (Fitzpatrick et al., 2019).
Challenges in AMR Risk Communication
1. Low Public Awareness: Despite the global severity ofAMR, public awareness remains critically low. Surveys have found that a mere fraction of the population grasp its implications, with some reporting only ~8–11% demonstrating adequate understanding and many feeling powerless to contribute (Goshaet al., 2024).
2. Ineffective understanding of Terminology: It is recognized that AMR has a ‘language problem’ and the way in which healthcare professionals communicate about AMR may not always resonate with patients (Langford et al., 2019). Technical labels like “AMR” or “antimicrobial resistance” fall short in public communication. Experiments reveal that phrases such as “Antibiotic Resistance” or “Antibiotic Crisis” are more memorable and better at promoting critical behaviors—like completing prescribed antibiotic courses—than more formal terminology.
3. Misconceptions about Antibiotics: Widespread misunderstandings persist regarding antibiotics’ purpose and effect. Many incorrectly believe antibiotics treat viruses—common colds, flu, or even are effective painkillers (Gunasekara et al., 2022).Some think AMR occurs because the body becomes resistant, rather than bacteria evolving resistance(Muflihet al., 2021).
4. Complexity of the Issue: AMR is inherently multifaceted—spanning interactions among humans, animals, and the environment—which makes it challenging to distill into clear, actionable messages. Understanding Risk

India has been making steady progress in the livestock sector with significant rise of meat, egg and milk production and a sustained annual growth rate of more than 5%. This growth trajectory is anticipated to accelerate further due to rising middle-class incomes combined with high income elasticity of demand for livestock products. However, despite having huge livestock resource, protein deficiency in rural India remains widespread. Recent data shows that two third of the Indian households are deficient in protein intake1. Looking at the growth potential in the sector, Govt. of India has put special focus on this sector and have undertaken many initiatives to boost animal health productivity and to increase farmer’s income. However, a major limiting factor in profitable livestock production in India is the high prevalence of infectious diseases. These livestock diseases cause great socioeconomic impact and are often exacerbated by inadequate biosecurity measures both in intensive and open production systems. Consequently, the use of antimicrobials for disease treatment has become an essential aspect of livestock management. Antibiotics usage in Animal Healthcare Antibiotics are an essential part of therapeutic management of infectious diseases in both farm and companion animals, ensuring better animal health and life; thereby also assures healthy food from the animal sources. In India a wide range of antibiotics are available in the veterinary practice viz. Penicillin, Semi-synthetic penicillin like Ampicillin, Amoxycillin, Aminoglycosides like Streptomycin, Gentamicin, Neomycin; Tetracycline, Kanamycin, Erythromycin; Fluoroquinolones like Enrofloxacin, Norfloxacin, Ciprofloxacin,

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is rapidly emerging as one of the most critical global health challenges of the 21st century. Antimicrobial resistance can be defined as a condition in which microbes develop resistance against the spectrum of conventional antibiotics, also known as multidrug resistance and these microbes are typically known as drug-resistant pathogens. The infections associated with antibiotic resistant pathogens are usually accompanied by substantial morbidity and mortality along with the massive economic burden on global healthcare, which causing approximately 4.95 million deaths globally each year. The prevalent issue is largely attributed to the repercussions of antimicrobial overuse or irresponsible utilization across diverse contexts, predominantly in clinical treatment, agricultural practices, animal healthcare, war crisis and the food system and a lack of regulation in their supply. Nature has long been a rich reservoir of biologically active compounds with diverse chemical structures and pharmacological properties, offering valuable resources for treating a wide array of diseases. In recent years, the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance has renewed global interest in natural products as promising sources for novel antimicrobial agents. Among these, plant-derived phytochemicals, microbial metabolites, marine bioactive compounds, and animal-based substances have shown significant potential in combating drug-resistant pathogens. These natural compounds exhibit unique mechanisms of action that can overcome existing resistance pathways, making them important candidates in the development of nextgeneration antibiotics. From alkaloids and flavonoids in medicinal plants to secondary metabolites produced by actinomycetes, antimicrobial peptides from animals, and complex molecules derived from marine organisms, nature offers a vast and largely untapped arsenal of antimicrobial agents. Exploring and harnessing these natural resources presents a sustainable and innovative strategy to address the growing global crisis of antimicrobial resistance. The enormous potential of natural products in the fight against antibiotic resistance is examined in this chapter. The different kinds of bioactive chemicals, their modes of action, and the creative approaches being used to maximize their medicinal potential are highlighted.
Challenges in Addressing AMR with Conventional Methods
1. Weak Implementation of National Action Plans: Only a small percentage of the more than 170 nations that have created AMR action plans have operationalized them with specialized financing and monitoring mechanisms. This leads to a gap between policy and practice, especially in low- and middle-income nations.
2. Restrictions in the Management of Antimicrobials: Lack of qualified staff, insufficient microbiological assistance, and shoddy governance frameworks are some of the common obstacles that antimicrobial stewardship initiatives must overcome. Due to the lack of quick diagnosis, broad-spectrum antibiotics are still empirically used in many hospitals.
3. Diagnostic Barriers: Rapid diagnostic methods are still few, and traditional culture-based susceptibility testing is sluggish. Resistance selection is accelerated by this diagnostic latency, which frequently forces physicians to use broad-spectrum empirical treatment.
4. Surveillance Gaps: Despite the growth of programs like the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS), data quality and surveillance coverage are still uneven. The inability of many nations to track resistance in important diseases compromises prompt policy responses.
5. Limited Innovation in Drug Development: Only a few new types of antibiotics are now in advanced clinical development, making the pipeline still rather thin. Under the present traditional paradigm, pharmaceutical innovation is discouraged by market failure due to low return on investment.

Introduction

Surveillance data from the World Health Organization’s GLASS initiative highlights the scale of the problem: resistance to third-generation cephalosporins in Escherichia coli and methicillin in Staphylococcus aureus has reached alarming levels in dozens of countries, complicating the management of common infections and raising the stakes for therapeutic innovation. In veterinary settings, the crisis is equally urgent. Resistance has emerged across nearly all major antibiotic classes used in livestock, poultry, and companion animals. Contributing factors include widespread antibiotic use in agriculture, limited diagnostic stewardship, and the ease with which resistance genes spread within and between microbial communities. These trends not only threaten animal health and productivity but also increase the risk of zoonotic transmission, blurring the boundaries between veterinary and human public health. Global health authorities have long warned of a “post-antibiotic era” - a time when conventional antibiotics may no longer offer reliable protection against bacterial pathogens. Recent reports suggest that this era is no longer hypothetical. If current trajectories continue, drug-resistant infections could account for up to 10 million deaths annually by 2050, with staggering economic consequences. To address this escalating threat, researchers are exploring alternative therapeutic strategies that go beyond traditional antibiotics. Among the most promising are antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and bacteriophage therapy. AMPs are naturally occurring molecules found in animals and other organisms, known for their broad-spectrum activity and rapid bactericidal effects. Their ability to disrupt bacterial membranes through electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions makes them less susceptible to resistance mechanisms that target conventional antibiotics. Bacteriophages - viruses that specifically infect and lyse bacteria - offer a complementary approach. Phage therapy is highly targeted, capable of eliminating specific bacterial strains while sparing beneficial microbiota. Phage’s can also evolve alongside bacterial populations, potentially outpacing resistance development. In veterinary medicine, phage-based treatments have shown promise in managing infections in poultry, swine, cattle, and companion animals, particularly where antibiotic options are limited or ineffective. The combined use of AMPs and bacteriophages represents a novel and potentially synergistic strategy for tackling AMR. By leveraging distinct mechanisms of action and delivery profiles, these agents may enhance therapeutic efficacy, reduce resistance selection pressure, and improve outcomes across a range of veterinary applications. This chapter explores the pharmacological and pharmacokinetic challenges associated with delivering such combination therapies, with a focus on optimizing their use in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Introduction
A microorganism or microbe is a tiny living thing that can exist as a single cell or in groups of cells. People have suspected the existence of these unseen microbes since ancient times. These single-celled creatures have caused serious infections that often led to deaths and illness. These microorganisms can spread quickly and cause big outbreaks of disease. In 1928, Alexander Fleming discovered the first antibiotic, penicillin. This discovery started the development of one of the most important groups of medicines in medical history. In the next three decades, many different types of antimicrobial drugs were developed. In his Nobel Prize speech, Fleming warned that using penicillin too much might one day lead to bacteria becoming resistant to it, which would be a major problem. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest public health challenges today. Many of the microbes that cause diseases, like bacteria, viruses, and protozoa, no longer respond to common antimicrobial drugs such as antibiotics, antivirals, and antiprotozoals. Antimicrobial resistance is when a microbe becomes able to survive and grow even when treated with medications that used to work on it. Antibiotic resistance is a type of AMR, but it only applies to bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics. Resistant microbes are harder to treat, and doctors may need to use other medicines or higher doses. These options can be more expensive and have more side effects. Microbes that resist multiple antimicrobials are called multidrug resistant (MDR). Those that are resistant to almost all drugs are sometimes called ‘superbugs’. Antimicrobial prophylaxis is used by doctors to prevent infections, but it should only be used when it’s really needed to avoid unnecessary costs, side effects, and the development of resistance. Antimicrobial prophylaxis can be used to prevent a first infection or to stop an infection from coming back or reactivating.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global concern, rendering many once-effective antimicrobials useless and threatening modern medicine’s foundations [1]. RNA-based therapies offer precision, programmability, and modularity—tailoring interventions directly to microbial genetic machinery [2, 3].
Main RNA-based modalities include
• Antisense Oligonucleotides (ASOs): Short synthetic single-stranded RNAs that bind complementary mRNA in bacteria to inhibit translation or induce RNase H–mediated degradation [15].
• RNA Interference (RNAi): Though classically applied to eukaryotes, siRNAs or crRNAs delivered via nanoparticles (also termed “nanoantibiotics”) can silence microbial resistance or virulence genes while the carrier materials physically damage microbial membranes— enhancing lethality [3, 4,5].
• CRISPR-Cas Systems: Adapted as antimicrobials, CRISPR-Cas tools can precisely target and cleave resistance genes in pathogens via conjugative plasmids or phages [6].
• Ribozymes / External Guide Sequences (EGSs): Engineered noncoding RNAs that harness RNase P or ribozyme activity to degrade specific bacterial mRNAs [16].

Conventional strategies to counter AMR—including antibiotic stewardship programs and the development of new drugs—are often slow, expensive, and labor intensive. However, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) present ground breaking alternatives to address this challenge. By leveraging advanced computational techniques, AI can significantly speed up the discovery of novel antibiotics, enabling researchers to identify promising drug candidates more efficiently than traditional methods. Additionally, ML algorithms enhance treatment optimization by analyzing patient data to recommend personalized antibiotic regimens, reducing misuse and resistance risks. AI also strengthens surveillance systems by processing vast datasets— such as genomic sequences and electronic health records—to detect emerging resistance patterns in real time. These capabilities allow for proactive interventions, helping healthcare providers and policymakers stay ahead of AMR outbreaks. Together, AI and ML offer a transformative approach to mitigating AMR, combining speed, precision, and scalability to combat one of the most pressing medical challenges of our time.
AI in Antibiotic Discovery
One of the most promising applications of AI in AMR mitigation is in antibiotic discovery. Traditional drug development is costly and time-consuming, often taking over a decade [1]. Machine learning models can analyse vast datasets of chemical compounds to predict their antibacterial properties. For example, researchers at MIT used deep learning to identify halicin, a novel antibiotic effective against drug-resistant bacteria. AI-driven platforms can also repurpose existing drugs, reducing the time needed for clinical trials [2].

Predictive Analytics for Resistance Patterns AI-powered predictive analytics enables early detection of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns by processing clinical, genomic, and epidemiological data. Machine learning models analyse electronic health records (EHRs) [3] and bacterial genome sequences to identify emerging resistance threats in real time. These predictive insights allow hospitals to take proactive measures— such as optimizing antibiotic prescriptions—before resistant strains spread. Beyond clinical settings [4], AI models assist public health agencies in forecasting outbreaks and strategically deploying resources. By integrating large-scale datasets, these systems enhance surveillance, enabling faster, datadriven decisions to curb AMR progression. This approach not only improves patient outcomes but also supports global efforts in combating antibiotic resistance through smarter, pre-emptive interventions [5].

Our animal companions are our family members. We want the best for them and want them to be healthy and happy. However, just as it is with everyone else, our companion animals can also fall ill and suffer from emotions such as grief, fear, and anxiety. And while we follow all expert medical advice, sometimes we may wish for something more – something that will make life easier for them as well as us. This is where the concept of energy healing for animals comes in – to comfort and support our animal companions. 1. Animal Reiki: The word Reiki means “mystical energy.” The system of Reiki for healing was revealed by Japanese Buddhist practitioner Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. Means, just by chanting one can save himself in the universe. i.e. it is saved from onset of disturbances. Mantras are the words loaded with power and sounds capable of penetrating our body into deep levels. Mantra chikitsa is the ancient science originated from Vedas, this is a parallel science to Ayurveda also called alternative medicine system.Mantra Chikitsa is one among the Daivavyapashraya Chikitsa highlights the importance of concept of Mantra. In Atharva Veda and Kaushikasutra, the two most ancient and authentic sources of Daivavyapashraya. Mantra Chikitsa is mainly used for both preventive and curative aspect. It is also used for the enhancement of the Gunas of Aushadhi. Effect of Mantra is described as Prabhavajanya action. Prabhava means the specific and characteristic action of substances, it is called as Acintya. Mantra Chikitsa cure the Karmaja Vyadhi and Agantuja Vyadhi. In the Vedic period, Daivavyapashraya Chikitsa was followed in various rituals.

Introduction
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is increasingly recognised as a “silent pandemic,” threatening global health and development. In 2019 alone, bacterial AMR was directly responsible for 1.27 million deaths and contributed to nearly 5 million more worldwide. Projections warn that by 2050, unchecked AMR could result in 10 million annual deaths and impose a staggering economic burden of USD 100 trillion. A major driver of this crisis is the indiscriminate and often prophylactic use of antibiotics in livestock production systems, which account for a majority of global antimicrobial consumption. The One Health framework—emphasising the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health—offers a strategic pathway for mitigating AMR. It requires dismantling sectoral silos and fostering collaboration among veterinarians, physicians, public health authorities, food safety regulators, and environmental scientists. Against this backdrop, NDDB has positioned itself as a frontrunner in India by embedding One Health principles into large-scale field programmes. Since 2014, NDDB has progressively promoted alternative medicine for bovine mastitis control under its Mastitis Conrol Project (MCP), subsequently expanding in 2017–18 into a broader Disease Control through Alternate Methods (DCAM) project with Ethnoveterinary Medicine (EVM) as the central pillar.
Building Up: From DCAM to DISHA as One Health Strategy
Building on the successes of MCP, DCAM, and BCP, NDDB launched the Dairy Integrated Safety and Health Action (DISHA) project for 2025–2030, DISHA consolidates NDDB’s One Health strategy by combining animal health management, zoonotic disease surveillance, and food safety monitoring. Its objectives include: managing bovine cases with EVM, organising farmer awareness programmes, training veterinarians and health workers, screening cattle as well as their owner for brucellosis, and testing bulk milk samples for aflatoxins and antibiotic residues. Importantly, DISHA also addresses emerging food system contaminants such as microplastics, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs), Bisphenol-A (BPA) and heavy metals, thereby broadening the scope of One Health beyond infectious diseases.

Caraway
About 2000 years ago, Roman soldiers dispersed Caraway seed from it’s home in Asia Minor to most of known countries of the world. North Europeans and central Europeans, especially the British and Germans, respectively, have been using it since centuries. In India, also, it is being used since long. Caraway or Caraway seed of commerce is the fruit of a biennial herb. It is a native of North and Central Europe, and is extensively cultivated in Holland, Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Denmark, Syria, Morocco and to a small extent in England. It has been introduced into the USA, where it is grown as a garden crop. It (Black Caraway or Kala zira) grows wild in India in the north Himalayan regions. It is also cultivated in the Indian plains. It is also cultivated as a cold season crop in the hills of Kashmir and Kumaon at an altitude of 2740 – 3660 meter above mean sea level, as a summer crop. The Caraway plant usually has a fleshy root and a slender branched stem, that attains a height of 0.5-0.6 meter. The compound pinnate leaves are divided into very narrow segments, the small white flowers are borne in fleet, compound umbels; the fruit, when ripe, splits into narrow, elongated carpels. A fruit is 4-6.5mm long and curved, pointed at the ends, and with 5 longitudinal ridges

Thyme is one of the best known European culinary herbs. The dried leaves and flowering to ps of Thymus vulgaris Linn. are called Thyme and those of Thymus serpyllum wild Thyme, which is found in the Western temperate Himalayas, from Kashmir to Kumaon hills, India, at an altitude of 1,525 meter above mean sea level. Thyme is grown in Europe, Austria and North Asia. It is now cultivated in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and other parts of Europe and, also, in England, North Africa, Canada and the USA. It is a common garden plant which survives for many years under good culture. The dried leaves are curled, are of brownish-green color, usually no longer than 6-7 mm and 2-3mm broad and marketed in whole or in ground form. The flavor is aromatic, warm and pungent. Wild Thyme is a low, hardy perennial, undershrub, 20-40cm high, successfully introduced into the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, in Southern India, or at higher elevations. It is used both for seasoning and for its volatile oil, ranging from 1.08-2.0% (average 1.0%), and in India, its cultivation on a commercial scale can be tried in the western temperate Himalaya from Kashmir to Kumaon hills between 1500 and 4000 meters above mean sea level. The plant can be grown for ornamental edging along the paths in gardens, and is also suitable for rockeries. Leaves are oblong-lanceolate, 10 mm x 3 mm, with orange-brown glandular dots; flowers are coriaceous, small, lavender, purplish to almost white in color, attractive to honeybees, in pubescent verticillaters (Plants that have their flowers intermixed with small leaves growing in a kind of whirl are called verticillate plants); nutlets are brown in color.

Galangal is the dried rhizome or root of a plant, Alpinia galanga Linn. Willd. which grows mainly in the Eastern Himalayas and South-Western India. The plant is 1.8-2.1 meters high, and bears perennial rhizomes which are deep, orange-brown in color, aromatic, pungent and bitter. The fruits are about 13 mm long, constricted in the middle, and contains 3-6 seeds. The seeds are slightly pungent, with an aroma similar to that of the rhizome. Cut pieces of the rhizomes of this species are known as “Greater Galangal”. The rhizome of “Lesser Galangal” is smaller and reddish brown in color, and, has a stronger odor ansd taste. According to Guenther (1973) Galangal root is also known under the names of “Smaller Galangal” and “Radix galangal minoris”. The earliest reference to this spice is that of an Arabian geographer Ibn Khurdabah (869-895 AD), who included Galangal in a list of products from a country he refers to as Sila (which was undoubtedly China). Sometimes later, Plutarch made reference to the use of Galangal as a fumigating spice by the early Egyptians. In 1153, it was mentioned by Edrisi as an incoming spice into Ade, which was then the port used by the Egyptians for all Asiatic products. In his travels, Marco Polo mentions that it was produced fairly extensively in Kachanfu and Kinsai (Tonkin). Galangal is one of the spices which reached European markets relatively early, for it is mentioned along with Black pepper in the literature of the Middle Ages, where it received praise in various writings dealing with drugs, medicines etc. The source of the spice which was reaching the European market remained almost unknown until the last century, when in 1867, a plant of unknown botanical origin was discovered in the extreme south of China. The following year, Hance examined both dried and living specimens of the plant and was able to conclude that it was the same as the “Lesser Galangal” known to the pharmacists.

Rapeseed
Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), a member of the Brassicaceae family, is one of the primary oilseed crops cultivated for biodiesel production, particularly in Europe and Canada (Hoekman et al., 2012; Demirbas, 2009). Its seeds contain 40-45% oil, making it one of the most efficient oil crops for biofuel production (Ramos et al., 2009). The extracted oil is known as canola oil, which is preferred for both food and fuel applications due to its low erucic acid and glucosinolate content (Atabani et al., 2012). Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), is one of the biofuel species that has achieved global attention, primarily due to its high yield, climatic versatility as well as its low environmental impact than fossil fuels (Singh et al., 2010). The crop is being grown all over the temperate region because its ability to resist cold temperatures and pests is a major advantage for the practice of sustainable agriculture. Moreover, the rapeseed has been positively affected by the development of biotechnology and the utilization of hybrid breeding that has been significantly increasing the oil yield and disease resistance of rapeseed, thus, facilitating the biodiesel production from this plant (Zanetti et al., 2013). Biodiesel from rapeseed has ecological advantages, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50% compared to regular diesel (Hill et al., 2006). It also supports rural economic development through the diversification of farmer income and diminishing reliance on imported petroleum (FAO, 2021). The increasing price of the biofuel, chiefly supported by sustainable energy policies and reducing carbon footprint policies, is one of the driving factors for increasing demand of rapeseed as global demand for renewable energy sources rises (Euopean Commission 2021).
Sunflower
Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an important oilseed crop used for biodiesel production, especially in temperate regions like Europe and North America (Demirbas, 2009). The oil content of sunflower seeds ranges from 25-50%, making it a suitable feedstock for biofuel (Atabani et al., 2012). The characteristics of sunflower oil, such as the high content of unsaturated fatty acids, lead to better cold flow properties of its biodiesel (Ramos et al., 2009). In addition, the creation of high-oleic sunflower varieties allowed considerable improvement in oxidative stability and led to the fact that sunflower biodiesel is more suitable for storage and combustion (Dimitrijevic et al., 2017). In this age of technology, people cannot keep themselves functional in this digitized world by practical knowledge of analog equipment alone. In present days, people live and work on the constant flow of big data, connections, and instant information flowing from every click and touch of a device. Technology is not static. Evernew technological advancement brings tides of data before people, therefore, they need data literacy to read, analyze and use them. Technological literacy gives them grounding in coding and engineering principles, so they know how their machines tick. Ultimately, human literacy teaches them the humanities, communication and design, allowing them to work in human environments. Artificial intelligence (AI) is now a fact of everyday life in our modern hightech societies. There are many definitions of AI and each of those definitions has been revised over time. Presently, most definitions state that AI solves complex cognitive problems associated with human intelligence or that AI helps as many people as possible through smartphones or healthcare, or even that AI recognizes problems and creates solutions for the benefit of technology, people, and society. However, the core concept of AI has continuously been to create machines that were capable of thinking like humans. It took about 200,000 years for human intelligence to evolve from natural to artificial and only 10 years to cut ties with the Earth and move to the clouds. During the creation of AI, mankind learned a lot about what it means to be human, how human intelligence is structured, and how humans learn and acquire expertise. With more predictive power, more efficiency and the ability to deliver better results than humans, AI is rapidly moving aside from humans into the world of expertise. However, it is impossible to imagine that someone else will replace Homo sapiens at this moment, but its probability cannot be ruled out in the days to come. The day, when mankind, in the course of time, will immerse in the world of knowledge, robotics becomes an essential part of the human body and existence, the existence of mankind is sure to be threatened. In October 2017, Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to humanoid Sofia. Perhaps this is a new breed of human being brought about by technology in the 21st century. Just as the message of the first driverless car aroused a lot of curiosity among mankind and now that curiosity has disappeared completely, it is likely that the arrival of many Sophia’s will make the environment very normal in the coming days. So here comes AI – Artificial Intelligence, the driving force behind Sophia or Driverless cars. The very simple definition of artificial intelligence is -the intelligence displayed by machines. Today, in this age of science and technology, we can say that anything imaginable by humans can be done with the help of machines. Sundar Pichai, CEO Google and Alphabet in his article “The promise of AI for India and the World” opined that every technology shift is an opportunity to advance scientific discovery, accelerate human progress and improve lives. AI will do this on an unprecedented scale and India is uniquely positioned to play a leading role.

Women are important in agriculture and natural resource management, for example, so their input is essential in developing environmental policies that work. Gender considerations can be effectively integrated into development frameworks to produce more comprehensive solutions that lead to sustainable outcomes. In addition, promoting gender parity is not just a question of justice but also a critical component of sustainable development. Greater gender parity is associated with faster economic growth and better social outcomes in nations, according to a wealth of research. Entire communities gain when women have access to economic opportunities, healthcare, and education. In order to achieve sustainable development goals and make sure that no one is left behind, creating gender-responsive policies is therefore not just an ethical duty but also a practical necessity. In conclusion, examining the relationship between gender and sustainable development can help us better understand the many issues our world is currently facing.
