Hence, for effective disease management strategy, accurate identification and diagnosis of plant pathogens are of paramount importance before the pathogen induces any epidemic leading to immense loss of crop plants which is certain. Often, identification can be accomplished either visually through microscopic observation of disease-causing micro-organisms or molecular diagnosis based on nucleic acid detection methods. Microscopic observations alone are inadequate for species-level identification of plant pathogens and can often lead to taxonomic errors due to the potential for misidentification of organisms. Nucleic acid-based diagnostic tools allow for the sensitive detection, precise quantification, and specific differentiation of pathogens.Although numerous nucleic acid-based methods are available for plant pathogen detection, PCR-based diagnostics, especially those employing DNA barcodes, are still considered highly reliable and accurate. Scientists, especially plant pathologists, can now easily identify and diagnose most plant diseases as many standardized phytopathogen barcodes facilitate rapid, early, and accurate identification of plant diseases.

The lengthy process, coupled with the challenges of maintaining desirable traits, makes it difficult to achieve rapid genetic improvements. As a result, there is a growing need for more advanced and precise breeding methods to enhance crop development (Jain and Kharkwal, 2004). A molecular marker is a specific DNA segment that signifies genetic variations at the genome level, aiding in genetic analysis and breeding (Dhutmal et al., 2018). These are composed of nucleic acids as well as proteins and used on basis of naturally occurring polymorphism (Thottappilly et al., 2000; Ahmad et al., 2020). These markers are closely related with the target gene and they act as sign or flags (Nadeem et al., 2018), aiding in the identification of specific regions associated with advantageous characteristics such as disease resistance, yield potential, nutritional content, and environmental adaptability (Meena et al., 2023).The advancement of high-throughput molecular markers and genetic maps has enabled the precise identification of genes responsible for agronomically important traits, potentially enhancing breeding through markerassisted selection (MAS). Compared to traditional breeding methods, MAS overcomes the challenges of phenotypic selection and significantly improves selection efficiency. This approach accelerates crop improvement by ensuring the effective transfer of desirable traits with greater accuracy and reliability (Wani et al., 2022). The incorporation of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and high-throughput genotyping platforms has also facilitated genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and the discovery of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) linked to important traits, further enhancing the resolution of genetic analysis. In recent years, molecular markers have been extensively used to characterize and enhance genotypic and phenotypic traits in temperate fruit and nut crops. Studies have focused on assessing genetic diversity in almonds, identifying genes responsible for red skin color in apples, developing sharka disease-resistant apricots, and sequencing the almond genome. These markers have been successfully used for genetic studies in many horticultural crops including vegetables (Gulsen et al., 2007; Kumar et al., 2008 a and b; Schafleitner et al., 2013; Yadav et al., 2015; Sharma et al., 2016; Kumar et al., 2017 and Kumar et al., 2019) and flowering crops (Kumar et al., 2019; Kumar et al., 2016 and Kumar et al., 2018a and b). 1. Introduction
Water is the most crucial input for agricultural production. Globally, more than 80% of all freshwater used by humans are consumed in agriculture and most of it are for crop production (Morison et al., 2008). Currently about 60% of production in developing countries is derived from rainfall. Though irrigation provides only 10% of agricultural water use and covers just around 20% of the cropland, it can contribute about 40% of total food production since productivity of irrigated land is almost three times higher than that of rainfed land. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has predicted a net expansion of irrigated land of about 45 million is hectares in 93 developing countries (for a total of 242 million hectares in 2030). It projected that water withdrawals by the agriculture sector will increase by about 14% during 2000 – 2030 to meet the growing food demands (FAO, 2006). It is estimated that by 2050 in India, about 22 % of the geographic area and 17 % of the population will be under absolute water scarcity. The per capita availability of water which was about 1704 cubic meter in 2010 is projected to be 1235 cubic meter in 2050 (Anonymous, 2011). Infrastructure to increase the command area and minimize the gap of irrigation potential created and utilized is the dominant component of overall investment in agriculture (Anonymous, 2011). Besides this, judicious agricultural water management assists in ensuring good returns through efficient use of fertilizers and high yielding crop varieties. Above all, water will remain as a critical input for attaining sustainability in agricultural production. India’s current water supply is approximately 740 billion m3, which necessitates implementation of judicious water management technologies to enhance crop water productivity. In recent decades the world’s population has shown tremendous growth from an estimated 2.5 billion in the 1950’s to approximately 6.7 billion till date. It is expected that reduction in the average size of land holding, declining per capita water availability, deterioration of water quality etc. will seriously affect the sustainable use of water resources and will make it difficult to accomplish the target of producing 345 Mt of food grain in 2030 and 494 Mt in 2050 AD. To achieve the targeted food production, increase in the crop productivity from the present 2.3 to 4.0 t ha-1 under irrigated conditions and from 1.0 t ha-1 to 1.5 t ha-1 in rainfed area, productivity need to be increased at individual field level. This demands efficient use of water in agriculture, which can be achieved by reducing the losses of water and increasing the water uptake by the crops and it requires quantification of different water budgeting parameters like evapotranspiration and deep percolation.

As climate change advances, risk of managing soil and atmosphere with regard to emission and pollution is going out of hand. Many researches and reports say that currently the global warming is 1.1°C more than the pre-industrial levels, which is not far behind the target of 1.5°C which was agreed by nations under the Paris agreement in 2015 (Janki M, 2023). Achieving that will likely involve removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. But strategies like capturing and storing the carbon emissions from biofuel-burning power plants, or planting new forests to absorb carbon, can create their own problems. Recently UN security general said we are shifting to the “Era of global boiling” from global warming. Globally countries are witnessing unbearable heat waves, forest fires, irregular rainfall, flashfloods, coral bleaching and unpredictable weather patterns which often resulting in devastating effects on the coastal and hilly regions of the country. Around nine tipping points have been identified so far globally. Climate tipping points are threshold that when crossed leads to irreversible changes in the climate system and will have a severe impact on the living organisms on the earth. All these variations in climate are driving by increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and global warming. We cannot change the state of atmosphere to as existed thousands or millions of years ago. Only option left with us is to reduce emissions and prevention of further global warming and climate change. As we are already existing in some level of changed climate, responding to climate change involves a two-pronged approach, reducing emissions of and stabilizing the levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere through mitigation and secondly, adapting to the climate change. Because climate change is irreversible process.

The scientific community has long relied on the expertise of trained researchers and professionals to advance our understanding of the world. However, with the increasing complexity of global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, and public health concerns, it has become clear that a new approach is needed. The traditional model of scientific research, where experts work in isolation to collect and analyze data, is no longer sufficient to address the scale and urgency of these challenges. Citizen Science, which involves the active participation of the public in scientific research, has emerged as a powerful tool for addressing these challenges. By leveraging the collective efforts of citizens, researchers can tap into a vast pool of knowledge, skills, and perspectives, ultimately leading to more inclusive, equitable, and effective scientific inquiry. From monitoring water quality and tracking climate patterns to identifying species and analyzing satellite imagery, citizens are making meaningful contributions to scientific research (Fig. 3.1).
The benefits of Citizen Science are numerous. It provides opportunities for citizens to engage with scientific research, promoting a deeper understanding of the scientific process and its applications. It also enables researchers to collect data on a larger scale and in more diverse locations, leading to more comprehensive and accurate findings. Furthermore, Citizen Science has the potential to increase public trust in science, promote community engagement, and foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among citizens for environmental and societal issues.

Farmers’ data collection can be a valuable input for the development of agrometeorological advisories because it provides a unique perspective on the local weather and climate conditions that affect their crops and farming practices. Farmers have a deep understanding of the local environment and are often able to observe subtle changes in weather patterns and soil conditions that may not be captured by traditional meteorological instruments. By collecting data on weather patterns, soil moisture, crop growth, and other factors, farmers can provide valuable insights into the complex relationships between weather, climate, and agriculture. This data can be used to improve the accuracy and relevance of agrometeorological advisories, which are critical for helping farmers make informed decisions about planting, irrigation, pest management, and other aspects of crop management. By incorporating farmers’ data into the development of these advisories, researchers and policymakers can create more effective and targeted recommendations that take into account the specific needs and conditions of local farming communities. Furthermore, the collection of farmers’ data can also help to identify gaps in existing meteorological data and provide insights into the impacts of climate change on local agriculture. Crowdsourcing is a concept that involves obtaining information, ideas, or services from a large group of people, often through an online platform. This approach has become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly with the rise of social media, mobile devices, and other digital technologies. In the context of agriculture, crowdsourcing can be used to collect data on various aspects of farming, such as crop yields, soil conditions, and weather patterns. This data can be used to provide farmers with valuable insights and advice on best practices for farm management. One of the key benefits of crowdsourcing in agriculture is that it allows farmers to share knowledge and expertise with each other. By pooling their collective knowledge and experience, farmers can gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing their industry, and develop more effective strategies for overcoming them (Fig.7.1).
For example, a crowdsourcing platform might allow farmers to share data on crop yields and soil conditions. This data could then be used to create detailed maps of soil types and conditions, which could be used to provide farmers with advice on optimal planting and harvesting schedules.
Another example of crowdsourcing in agriculture is the use of mobile apps to collect data on weather patterns. By collecting data from a large number of

Extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, and floods, have become increasingly frequent and intense in recent years, posing significant threats to agricultural productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods. The impacts of extreme weather events can be devastating, resulting in crop failures, livestock deaths, and damage to infrastructure and property. Traditional approaches to dealing with extreme weather events have often focused on top-down, expertdriven solutions, where external experts provide advice and guidance to farmers and rural communities on how to prepare for and respond to extreme weather events. However, these approaches have often been criticized for being ineffective, unsustainable, and neglecting the needs and perspectives of local communities.
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of interactive community approaches for dealing with extreme weather events. These approaches involve working closely with local communities to identify their needs, priorities, and capacities for dealing with extreme weather events. They also involve empowering local communities to take ownership of their own disaster risk reduction and management efforts, through the provision of training, resources, and support.
A critical component of these interactive community approaches is the development and implementation of Early Warning Systems (EWS). EWS are designed to provide timely and accurate warnings to communities about impending extreme weather events, allowing them to take necessary precautions to minimize losses and protect their lives and livelihoods (Fig.8.1).

The plants draw water from the soil for growth and development. The soil acts a reservoir for soil moisture (Fig.5.1). The basic aim of a soil water balance model is to quantify the manner in which the water supplied to the soil either through precipitation and irrigation is disposed off. In the process, the soil water balance models were found to be extremely useful to determine the amount of water utilized by the crop for evapotranspiration.
The concept of water balance was originally developed by Thornthwaite, an American geographer and it formed the basis for development of more scientifi c advances due to its wide range of applicability including

• Optimisation of limited water resources for higher productivity
• Characterization of droughts and agricultural droughts
• Assessment of crop yield and pre harvest forecasting of crop yields

There are quite a large number of water balance models available in literature nowadays. Several of these models may be applicable for regions where there are developed. There were considerable efforts to develop water balance models can be used by the crop on daily basis in case of different crops as well. The choice of a water balance model to a large extent depends on the availability of data required for running the model. It may not be possible to cover all models available in

The movement of water from soil to the crop canopy and leaves to provide water for transpiration and the effect of weather factors on transpiration is most important area of study. When the crop is just sown, there will be an only evaporation of water from the soil. After germination of seeds there will be emergence of seedlings. After the emergence of seedlings there will be formation of leaves. The small leaves start intercepting the incoming solar radiation and absorb some portion of solar energy, get heated and there will be evaporation turn off water from the stomata of the leaf. When water vapour escapes into the atmosphere through the stomata of leaf, the plant absorbs carbon dioxide which results in photosynthetic activity. During night time, there will not be any photosynthesis due to absence of sunlight. The plants use parts of the photosynthetic accumulate for its metabolic activity and the process is called maintenance respiration. The balance of the photosynthetic accumulate contributes to the expansion of leaves and increased dry matter accumulation in crop plans. The process of dry matter accumulation in plants is called crop growth. When the seedlings start growing, there will be formation of tillers or branches. When the leaves grow it reaches a stage when the crop will be completely shading the ground and the soil evaporation will be minimum and maximum amount of water is lost only through evapotranspiration (Fig.6.1).

1) Deparaffinise the paraffin sections with two changes (10 minutes each) of xylene.
2) Descending grades of ethanol from absolute to 50% solution (2 minutes each).
3) Hydrate the sections with distilled water 5 minutes.
4) 0.5% Periodic acid solution for 5-6 minutes.
5) Rinsing in distilled water.
6) Schiff’s’s reagent or Coleman’s Feulgen solution for 10-15 minutes.
7) Washing in running tap water for minimum 10 minutes until pink colour develops.
8) Counter stain with Harris’ hematoxylin for 2-3 minutes to stain nuclei.
9) Washing in running water for 2-3 minutes.
10) Quick dip in ammonia water to develop blue colour of the nuclei.
11) Washing in running tap water for 5 minutes.
12) Dehydrate in ascending grades of 90% to absolute ethanol (one minute each).
13) Clearing in xylene, two changes of 30 minutes each.

Schultz Method for Cholesterol
Frozen sections; cold calcium-cadmium-formalin fixed sections
Protocol
1) Thoroughly wash the sections in distilled water for 24 hours, changing the water several times.
2) Incubate the sections in 2.5% ferric ammonium sulphate solution at 37oC for 7 hours.
3) Wash the sections three times in fresh acetate buffer, allowing 1 hour for each wash.
4) Rinse briefly in distilled water.
5) Immerse in 5% formalin for 10 minutes.
6) Mount the sections onto slides, blotting the edges to remove excess water. Do not let the sections dry out.
7) Place a drop of a 1:1 mixture of sulphuric and acetic acids on a coverslip. Invert the slide and lower it onto the coverslip. Then turn the slide rightside up and gently press the coverslip to flatten the section. Hold the coverslip by its corners and gently oscillate it a few times to ensure even spreading.

Tissues fix in 10% neutral buffered formalin and process for routine paraffin sections Protocol:
1) Deparaffinise the paraffin sections with two changes (10 minutes each) of xylene.
2) Descending grades of ethanol from absolute to 50% solution (2 minutes each).
3) Hydrate the sections with distilled water 5 minutes.
4) 2% Silver nitrate solution for 48 hours, in the dark.
5) Rinse quickly in double distilled water.
6) Ammoniacal silver solution 10-20 minutes or until sections turn a deep brown.
7) Rinse in distilled water.
8) Reduce in 20% formalin solution for 5 minutes. Sections appear a dark brownish black.
9) Rinse thoroughly in distilled water.
10) Tone in gold chloride solution for 1 hour. Sections will be a reddish violet colour.
11) Rinse thoroughly in distilled water.
12) Sodium thiosulfate solution for 1 minute.
13) Wash in tap water.
14) Dehydrate in ascending grades of 90% to absolute ethanol (one minute each).

A large population of endocrine cells secrete the same chemical messengers (bio-active animals and regulatory peptides) as do the neurons and therefore these endocrine dells are referred as “Paraneurons”.
However these messengers are not used as neurotransmitters, rather they are released into blood circulation and interstitial fluid as hormones/chemical mediators to act on the target cells in endocrine or paracrine manner. This subset of endocrine cells forms the “Neuroendocrine system” and its synonyms are the “diffuse neuroendocrine system (DNES)”, “APUD (amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation) cell system” and the “regulatory peptide secreting cell system”. The DNES consists of cell populations scattered throughout the body either to form a coherent tissue in some organs (e.g. anterior pituitary, pancreatic islets, adrenal medulla) or to form a diffuse scatter of single cells or group of 2-3 cells within the stroma of the other organs (e.g. C cells of thyroid, intra-epithelial endocrine cells of the gut, airway and urinogenital system, chief cells of parathyroid, glomus cells of carotid body, melanocytes of skin, some cells of pineal gland and placenta, modified cardiac myocytes, hypothalamic neurons synthesizing oxytocin and vasopressin as well as neurons synthesizing releasing factors controlling the secretion of hormones by the adenohyposis etc.). These cells synthesize and store the hormones in their secretion granules as neurosecretory granules which have characteristic ultrastructural morphology.
The cells of the DNES can be identified by: (i) the ultrastructural morphology of the cells and their secretion granules, (ii) the empirical histochemical staining techniques which stain the neurosecretory granules, (iii) the novel current day, immunohistochemical techniques, or more aptly (iv) a combination of

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a vital research technique that employs labeled antibodies to identify and locate antigens in tissue sections. It has recently gained widespread popularity in anatomic pathology research globally. This method combines immunological, histological, and biochemical approaches to detect specific antigens using antibodies designed for those antigens. Antigen-antibody reactions are visualized through various methods under a microscope. When this technique is applied to individual cells or involves labeling at the electron microscopic level (using the immunogold technique), it is called immunocytochemistry (ICC). The overall process of performing immunohistochemistry or immunocytochemistry is known as ‘immunolabeling.’
Basic Principle of Immunohistochemistry
Antibodies are crucial in triggering an immune response by precisely recognizing and binding to foreign molecules. This specific interaction between an antibody and an antigen leads to the formation of an antibodyantigen complex, which is fundamental to immune reactions. This principle forms the cornerstone of immunohistochemistry.

Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) are widely used metrics for evaluating journal impact. While JCR is based on Web of Science and emphasizes high-impact journals, SJR uses Scopus data, offering broader geographic and disciplinary coverage. This chapter evaluates their relative strengths and weaknesses, focusing on their applicability across disciplines and geographies. Multiple trends also impact research landscapes across the globe (Fig. 3.1).
Comprehensive tables provide a comparative overview of which metric is more suitable for various disciplines and global regions. The assessment of academic journals plays a critical role in research evaluation, academic promotions, and funding decisions. Two prominent journal-ranking systems, JCR and SJR, serve as benchmarks for these purposes. JCR, managed by Clarivate Analytics, primarily focuses on citation frequency over a two-year window. Conversely, SJR, developed by SCImago using Scopus data, incorporates a prestige-weighted citation approach over a three-year period (Fig. 3.2). Several of our Indian Scientific Journals are not covered by JCR. As more than 80 per cent Journals are from Europe and North America. The CLARIVATE covers only few Indian Journals most of which are published by Central Government Agencies

The history of genetics dates from the classical era with contributions by Hippocrates, Aristotle and Epicurus. Modern biology began with the work of the Augustinian friar Gregor Johann Mendel. His work on pea plants, published in 1866, what is now Mendelian inheritance. Some theories of heredity suggest in the centuries before and for several decades after Mendel›s work. The year 1900 marked the “rediscovery of Mendel” by Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns and Erich von Tschermak, and by 1915 the basic principles of Mendelian genetics had been applied to a wide variety of organisms—most notably the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Led by Thomas Hunt Morgan and his fellow «drosophilists», geneticists developed the Mendelian model, which was widely accepted by 1925. Alongside experimental work, mathematicians developed the statistical framework of population genetics, bringing genetic explanations into the study of evolution.
With the basic patterns of genetic inheritance established, many biologists turned to investigations of the physical nature of the gene. In the 1940s and early 1950s, experiments pointed to DNA as the portion of chromosomes (and perhaps other nucleoproteins) that held genes. A focus on new model organisms such as viruses and bacteria, along with the discovery of the double helical structure of DNA in 1953, marked the transition to the era of molecular genetics.
In the following years, chemists developed techniques for sequencing both nucleic acids and proteins, while others worked out the relationship between the two forms of biological molecules: the genetic code. The regulation of gene expression became a central issue in the 1960s; by the 1970s gene expression could be controlled and manipulated through genetic engineering. In the last decades of the 20th century, many biologists focused on large-scale genetics projects, sequencing entire genomes.

Cells divide and reproduce in two ways: mitosis and meiosis.
Mitosis is a process of cell division that results in two genetically identical daughter cells developing from a single parent cell.
Meiosis, on the other hand, is the division of a germ cell involving two fissions of the nucleus and giving rise to four gametes, or sex cells, each possessing half the number of chromosomes of the original cell.Mitosis is used by single-celled organisms to reproduce; it is also used for the organic growth of tissues, fibers, and membranes. Meiosis is found in sexual reproduction of organisms. The male and female sex cells (i.e., egg and sperm) are the end result of meiosis; they combine to create new, genetically different offspring. 

In genetic studies it is necessary to distinguish two causes of correlation is chefly pleiotropy, though linkage is a cause of transient correlation, particularly in populations derived from crosses between divergent strains. Pleiotropy is simply the property of a gene whereby it affects two or more characters, so that if the gene is segregating it causes simultaneous variation in the characters is affects. For example, genes that increase growth rate increase both stature and weight, so that they tend to cause correlation between these two characters. The degree of correlation arising from pleiotropy expresses the extent to which two characters are influenced by the same genes. But the correlation resulting from pleiotropy is the overall, or net, effect of all the segregating genes that affect both characters. Some genes may increase both characters, while others increase one and reduce the other the former tend to cause a positive correlation the latter a negative one. So pleiotropy does not necessarily cause a detectable correlation. The correlation resulting from environmental causes is the overall effect of all the environmental factors that vary; some may tend to cause a positive correlation, others a negative one.
Genetic correlation

Five-membered heterocyclic molecules play a unique function in both natural and synthetic organic chemistry. The chemistry of azoles is currently being continually investigated in pharmaceutical chemistry. One of the most important fields of medicinal chemistry is the study of heterocyclic bioactive molecules containing nitrogen atoms. Triazoles have been found as a potential heterocyclic component in a wide range of drug scaffolds. It has a five-membered nitrogen heterocycle core with three nitrogen atoms and two carbon atoms. In 1885, Bladin coined the word “triazole” to describe the five-membered (Singh et al., 2018). 1,2,3-triazole and 1,2,4-triazole are the two isomeric forms of triazole (Matin et al., 2022). The core has a substantial impact on biological activity. The influences of the nitrogen heteroatom on the reactivity of the lead compound target medication pharmacokinetics and metabolism are affected by interactions between the lead chemical and several target inhibitors. Table 1, shows two tautomers of triazole depending on the hydrogen bonded to the nitrogen ring. Antimicrobial (Patil et al., 2023), anticonvulsants (Guan et al., 2007), antimalarial (Gujjar et al., 2009), antitumor (Al-Soud et al., 2004), antiviral (Al-Soud et al., 2004), antiproliferative (Masood-Ur-Rahman et al., 2017), anticancer (Minjian et al., 2017), antioxidants (Karrouchi et al., 2016), analgesics (Lass-Flörl C. 2011), antifungal (Guan et al., 2007, Lass-Flörl C. 2011), antiplasmodial (Balabadra et al., 2017), antibacterial (Guan et al., 2007, Khaligh et al., 2016), immunostimulants (Lee et al., 2007), and antidiabetic (Wang et al., 2017) are just a few of the numerous medications that demonstrate the pharmacological significance of triazole as a core heterocyclic structural component show in Figure 1.

1. Introduction
Chemists have been interested in using light as an energy source to trigger chemical reactions since many years. Under the photochemical conditions, molecules absorb light and get electronically excited. Consequently, in comparison to the ground state, the electronic distribution in the molecules is substantially altered in excited states. The reaction spectrum of a family of compounds is significantly expanded. In many cases, a complete synthesis can be greatly shortened by employing photochemical processes, and simple substrates can often yield complex, polycyclic, or highly functionalized molecules. This opens up new avenues in search of physiologically active compounds by providing new product libraries that are hard to obtain using ground-state reaction pathways. The photochemical reactions proved to be very fruitful for organic synthesis. It is because a large number of compounds having both industrial and academic importance required excited state for their synthesis (Glusac, 2016). The compound exhibits different chemical reactions in photochemically excited state (Oelgemöller & Hoffmann, 2016). The light induced chemistry has become a fascinating research area for last several decades. In 1912, Ciamician in his seminal work prophesied the necessity regarding the conversion of solar energy to chemical energy in future and its impact in future life for renewable energy (Oelgemöller & Hoffmann 2016). The need of photochemistry is of utmost importance for some fascinating reactions anticipated in future like splitting of water into oxygen and hydrogen, artificial photosynthesis and even photocatalysis (Fujishima & Honda, 1972; Chu et al., 2017). The familiar light driven reactions include cyclization of conjugated molecules to polycyclic compounds, photodissociations and both intra- and intermolecular proton transfer reactions (Li et al., 2010; Lan et al., 2005; Devine et al., 2008; Ashfold et al., 2006; Blank, 1994; Szabla et al., 2016). The photodissociation reactions occurs through ps* states, the s* orbital is situated around A-B bond (A and B are respectively a heteroatom and leaving group). However, the proton transfer reactions (PT) occur via charge transfer states. In this book chapter we will explore the synthetic utility and applications of Barton reaction.

1. Introduction
Green chemistry represents a transformative approach to chemical research and industrial practice, emphasizing the design of products and processes that minimize environmental impact and enhance sustainability. Introduced by Paul Anastas and John Warner in 1998, the field is grounded in the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry, which provide a framework for reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and minimizing the use of hazardous substances. These principles guide chemists in creating safer, more sustainable processes across various industries (Dichiarante et al., 2010).
1.1. Green Chemistry Defined
At its core, green chemistry seeks to reduce or eliminate the generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture, and application of chemical products. Unlike traditional environmental protection strategies, which often focus on managing waste and emissions after they have been created, green chemistry aims to prevent pollution at the source. This preventive approach is not only environmentally beneficial but also economically advantageous, as it can lead to cost savings through more efficient use of resources (Basics of Green Chemistry, 2013).
1.2. The Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry
The Twelve Principles, which include waste prevention, atom economy, the use of safer solvents, and the design for energy efficiency, serve as the foundation for green chemistry practices. These principles encourage chemists to rethink traditional methods and to innovate in ways that reduce the environmental footprint of chemical processes. For example, the principle of atom economy focuses on designing reactions that incorporate all reactants into the final product, minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency (12 Principles of Green Chemistry, 2021).

Agriculture has long served as the backbone of human civilization, enabling societies to grow and prosper. For generations, farmers have relied on experience, traditional practices, and historical weather data to inform decisions about crop cultivation and livestock management. Yet these conventional methods often left operations vulnerable to unpredictable environmental conditions. Today, the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming agriculture by shifting the approach from reactive management to proactive, data-driven decision making. Modern IoT systems deploy a network of interconnected sensors that continuously capture critical environmental parameters such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity, light intensity, and nutrient levels. These sensors provide granular, real-time data that is transmitted to centralized analytics platforms where it can be processed and visualized. The resulting insights empower farmers, aquaculturists, and animal husbandry professionals to optimize every aspect of their operations — enhancing yields, reducing waste, and increasing sustainability. This chapter explores the deployment and impact of IoT in agricultural and allied systems. It provides detailed technical discussions on sensor networks, communication protocols, and power management; illustrates how real-time data integration with advanced analytics transforms decision making; and presents in-depth case studies from initiatives such as John Deere’s precision agriculture systems, Microsoft FarmBeats, and regional projects like SmartAgriHubs. Moreover, the chapter delves into the formidable challenges of IoT deployment, including those faced by underdeveloped regions—and concludes with a look at emerging trends and a synthesis of the future vision for agriculture.
6.1 The Role of IoT in Modern Agriculture
6.1.1 Revolutionizing Data Collection
The most significant impact of IoT in agriculture is its transformation of data collection. Traditional methods relied on periodic field observations, manual sampling, and regional weather reports that provided only a snapshot of environmental conditions. In contrast, IoT devices continuously monitor the microclimate across a farm. With sensors distributed throughout fields, livestock facilities, and aquaculture systems, farmers can now capture real-time data on temperature, humidity, soil moisture, light intensity, and more (Fig.6.1).

Introduction
Metal-catalyzed C–N cross-coupling reactions are powerful synthetic methods for producing both simple and complex organic compounds, including natural products. These methodologies typically involve shorter reaction times and can achieve good to excellent yields with a broad range of reactions, exhibiting high regioselectivity in certain cases. The coupling of carbon and nitrogen to create organic compounds that contain nitrogen, such as urea and amides, is one of the most fundamental chemical reactions and plays a crucial role in human civilization. C–N coupling reactions have significant importance in industry, starting with the production of ammonia (NH3) through the Haber–Bosch process. Molecules containing C–N bonds are prevalent in a variety of organic materials, natural products, pharmaceutical compounds, and agricultural chemicals. This wide applicability makes them crucial chemicals, leading synthetic organic chemists to continuously seek out novel synthetic methods. In recent years, numerous synthetic strategies involving either transition metals or metal-free enzymes and biocatalysts have emerged. Additionally, new technologies, such as electroreduction, have been employed in these C–N coupling processes (Bariwal & Van der Eycken, 2013, Li et al., 2022, Yin et al., 2024, Rahman et al., 2022).
Common copper salts/complexes, and diamino ligands
Copper is commonly found coordinated by two, three, or four ligands, resulting in linear, trigonal planar, or tetrahedral geometries. Well-known and inexpensive copper halides, such as copper (II) glycinate, copper (II) acetylacetonate (particularly CuI), copper acetates, copper oxide, copper sulfate, and copper triflate salts, are widely used as catalytic systems in C–N bond-forming reactions. Additionally, other complexes such as Cu di-isopropyl salicylate (CuDIPS), copper phthalocyanine, and copper aspirinates have also been employed in these reactions. Copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reactions are well-established methods for forming triazoles via C–N bonds in one pot. These reactions often involve domino click chemistry and green approach methodologies, leading to the synthesis of biologically important triazoles. Copper salts in combination with diamine ligands are widely used in C–N bond-forming reactions through cross-coupling strategies. Some notable examples of such diamino compounds that can coordinate with copper are illustrated in Figure 1.

1. Introduction 
Among the innumerable gifts of nature, plants, animals and minerals have been the basis of treatment of human diseases. Generally it is either of prebiotic origin or originating from microbes, plants or animal sources. More likely they are the natural expression of the increase in complexity of organisms. Beside animals, plants are one of the most important sources of natural products. From the very beginning of their existence, man has acquainted himself with plants and used them in a variety of ways throughout the ages. In search of food and to cope successfully with human sufferings, ancient man began to distinguish those plants suitable for nutritional purposes from others with definitive therapeutic action. Some plants are widely used as food while others showed beneficial effects against various human sufferings such as injuries and diseases. This relationship has grown between plants and man, and many plants have come to be used as drugs. The use of plant as a drug can be divided broadly into five periods. The early period covers the Indian, Chinese, Sumerian, Egyptian and Assyrian civilizations followed by the Greco-Roman, Arabian, Medieval and modern periods (Buchnman, 1980). Among ancient civilisations, India has been known to be rich repository of medicinal plants as the forest in India is the principal repository of large number of medicinal and aromatic plants, which are largely collected as raw materials for manufacture of drugs and perfumery products. About 8,000 herbal remedies have been codified in Ayurveda. The Rigveda (5000 BC) has recorded 67 medicinal plants (Chopra et al., 1956), Yajurveda 81 species and Atharvaveda (4500-2500 BC) 290 species. Charak Samhita (700 BC) and Sushrut Samhita (200 BC) had described properties and uses of 1100 and 1270 species, respectively (Kirtikar & Basu, 1918; Baquar, 1989) in compounding of drugs and these are still used in the classical formulations, in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. Before the availability of synthetic drugs, medicinal plants were used as the most primary source of medicine and continue to provide the mankind with new remedies for many diseases. These were used in crude forms like expressed juice, powder, decoction or infusion. As the plant have specialized biochemical capabilities they are able to synthesize and accumulate a vast array of primary and secondary chemical constituents or phytochemicals (Ghazanfar, 1994). Phytochemicals are responsible for metabolic activities and used for defense purpose. They are produced by specific biochemical pathways, which occur inside the plant cells. Due to their physical characteristic and chemical properties these chemical constituents are highly beneficial to the mankind and most importantly in primary health care. The first chemical substance isolated from plants was benzoic acid (Figure 1) discovered in 1560. The potent pain-killer, morphine (Figure 1) was separated from the dried latex of Papaver somniferum L. (opium) by F. W Serturner (1783-1814). The bioactive molecule, ephedrine (Figure 1) is one of the most potent plant based medicine and was isolated from Ephedra sinica (Ma huang). It was used in the form of various salts to combat bronchial asthma (Tang & Eisenbrand, 1992). Reserpine (Figure 1) an indole alkaloid, obtained from the roots of Indian plant, Rauwolfia serpentina, was used to treat hypertension. Taxol (Figure 1) is a diterpenoid first isolated from the stem bark of pacific Yew, Taxus brevifolia and used against ovarian for the treatment of ovarian cancer.

1. Introduction
Organic polymers are large, chain-like molecules made up of repeating structural units (monomers) that are primarily carbon-based. These polymers are found both in nature and can be synthesized in labs, and they form the basis of many materials we use daily. Here are some main types of organic polymers (Harris, F. W., 1981).
2. Natural Organic Polymers
These are polymers found in nature. Examples include:
• Proteins: Polymers made up of amino acid monomers, serving as the building blocks for tissues and enzymes in organisms.
• Nucleic Acids: DNA and RNA, which are composed of nucleotide monomers, store genetic information in cells.
• Polysaccharides: Carbohydrate polymers like cellulose (found in plant cell walls), starch (energy storage in plants), and glycogen (energy storage in animals).
• Natural Rubber: Derived from latex in plants, primarily from the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis).
3. Synthetic Organic Polymers
These are human-made polymers produced through chemical synthesis.
Common examples include:
• Polyethylene: A plastic used in bags and containers, made from ethylene monomers.
• Polystyrene: Used in packaging, insulation, and disposable cutlery, made from styrene monomers.
• Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): A durable polymer used in pipes, cables, and construction, made from vinyl chloride monomers.
• Nylon and Polyester: Common synthetic fi bers used in textiles.

Operational agricultural meteorology is a specialized field that focuses on the practical application of meteorological knowledge and tools to support decision-making in agricultural systems. This discipline seeks to bridge the gap between meteorological research and agricultural practices, providing farmers, policymakers, and other stakeholders with the information they to optimize crop yields, reduce losses due to adverse weather conditions, and promote sustainable agricultural development (Fig. 2.1). At its core, operational agricultural meteorology involves the collection, analysis, and dissemination of weather and climate data tailored to the specific needs of the agricultural sector. For instance, understanding the onset and duration of the monsoon season in regions like India is crucial for planning planting and harvesting schedules for crops such as rice, wheat, and soybeans. Similarly, in regions with Mediterranean climates, knowing the likelihood and timing of frost events can help farmers protect sensitive crops like citrus and avocados. The concepts and components of operational agricultural meteorology (OAM) are diverse and multifaceted, encompassing a range of topics. Agrometeorological modeling, for example, involves using computer simulations to predict how weather and climate conditions will impact crop growth and development. The Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) is a notable example of this, where multiple models are compared and improved to better predict the impacts of climate change on agricultural production. Crop weather modeling is another key component, focusing on the specific interactions between weather patterns and the growth stages of various crops.

For farmers, the weather is a constant presence that influences every aspect of their work. It is a complex and multifaceted factor that can bring prosperity or devastation, often with little warning. The relationship between farmers and the weather is deeply intertwined, with each influencing the other in a delicate dance of observation, adaptation, and resilience. Weather affects farming in numerous ways, from the obvious to the subtle. Temperature, precipitation, and sunlight are the primary drivers of crop growth and development. However, extreme weather events, such as droughts, floods, and storms, can have catastrophic consequences for farmers. The timing and duration of these events can be particularly critical, with even small changes in weather patterns having significant impacts on crop yields and quality (Fig. 3.1).
Some key ways in which weather affects farming include:
• Crop growth and development: Temperature, precipitation, and sunlight influence the growth rate, yield, and quality of crops.
• Soil health: Weather patterns impact soil moisture, erosion, and nutrient availability, affecting soil fertility and structure.
• Pest and disease management: Weather conditions can facilitate or hinder the spread of pests and diseases, influencing the need for pesticides and other control measures.
• Water management: Precipitation and irrigation patterns determine water availability, affecting crop growth and farm operations.
• Farm operations: Weather conditions influence the timing and feasibility of planting, harvesting, and other critical farm activities.

Operational agricultural meteorology is a critical field that applies meteorological knowledge and tools to support agricultural decision-making, enhance crop yields, and mitigate the impacts of weather and climate variability on agricultural systems. Effective collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders are essential for the successful application of agricultural meteorology (Fig. 12.1).

European Dill is indigenous to Europe and is cultivated in England, Germany, Romania, Turkey ,USA and former Soviet Union. Until recently, it was not grown in India. However, efforts have been made to acclimatize it in Jammu (Kashmir, India) according to the Regional Research Laboratory (RRL, Jammu) and the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, India, Bhubaneshwar (Odisha State) and its exports also have started since 1988-89. The trends in exports are given in the following table (Table 24)

Poppy seed (Papaver somniferum Linn.) is just what one might think – the mature seed of a beautiful flower, known and used for at least 5000 years. Native of the Mediterranean region, as are so many of spice seeds and herbs, Poppies were taken to India and the East by Islamic missionaries, more than a thousand years ago. Poppy seed is so tiny that one pod may contain up to 30000 seeds and it takes some 9,000,000 seeds to weigh one pound! Each seed has a tiny droplet of nut-sweet oil which explains its flavor appeal. Although poppy seed comes from the same plant which produces opium, the seed cannot form until after the plant has matured to the point where it has lost all of its opium potential. Therefore, there is absolutely no narcotic content in poppy seed. Poppy seed is grown in the Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, the Balkan countries, Turkey, Argentina, and, to some extent, India. Poppy is cultivated either for the manufacture of opium or for its seeds. In India,variety album (Papaver somniferum Linn. var. album) of Poppy with white seeds has been cultivated for many years for the production of seeds under license in Dehra Doon and Tehri Garhwal districts of former Uttar Prdesh (now Uttarakhand), in India. It is also grown in Jalandhar, Patiala, Kapurthala, and, Hoshiarpur of Punjab State, in India, and, also in some districts of Madhya Pradesh, in India. The continuation of cultivation of Poppy for Poppy heads and Poppy seeds was reviewed by the All India Narcotics Conference in 1956, and, on its recommendation, the State Government of Punjab banned the cultivation of Poppy for Poppy heads for the manufacture of opium for a maximum period of 4 years, by which time, it was expected that necessary developmental measures would be taken to enable the cultivation of alternative crops in lieu of opium Poppy. Algae are organisms that grow in an aquatic environment and use light and carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce biomass. There are two categories of algae: macroalgae and microalgae. Macroalgae, measured in inches, are large multicellular algae that often grow in ponds. Macroalgae refers to thousands of macroscopic and multicellular seaweed species. The term includes some species of macroalgae such as Rhodophyta (red), Phaeophyta (brown), and Chlorophyta (green). Algae species such as kelp provide important breeding habitats for fisheries and other marine species, thereby protecting food sources; Other species such as plankton algae play an essential role in carbon sequestration and produce up to 90% of the Earth’s oxygen. Macroalgae, or large seaweeds, grow very rapidly and can reach extraordinary lengths up to 60 meters (McHugh, 2003). Their growth rates are much higher compared to many land plants. For example, wild brown algae can yield between 3.3 and 11.3 kg of dry biomass per square meter each year, and cultivated varieties can produce up to 13.1 kg in just seven months. In contrast, sugarcane, which is known for its high productivity, typically produces 6.1 to 9.5 kg of fresh biomass per square meter per year (Kraan. 2010). Additionally, macroalgae are available naturally in water bodies on a seasonal basis, and farming them in the ocean does not require traditional farming land or fertilizers. This makes them a promising option for addressing energy needs, as they are not only used for food and hydrocolloid extraction but also have potential for ethanol production. Humans have a long history of growing algae for uses such as food, food additives, feed, textiles and papers, bio-plastics. In recent years, seaweed farming has become a worldwide agricultural practice, providing food and feedstock for various chemical uses such as carrageenan, animal feed, biofertilizers and growth promoters. Due to its importance in marine ecology and carbon uptake, recent attention has focused on kelp farming as a potential climate change mitigation strategy for carbon dioxide biocapture, along with other benefits, such as reduced nutrient loads and increased habitat for coastal aquatic species, and reduced local ocean acidification in addition to biofuel opportunities. The seven most commonly cultivated algal taxa are Eucheuma spp., Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gracilaria spp., Saccharina japonica, Undaria pinnatifida, Pyropia spp. and Sargassum fusiform. Eucheuma and K. alvarezii are cultivated for carrageenan (a gelling agent); Gracilaria is grown for agar; while the rest is grown for food. 1.1 Evolution of Factory System
Family-run cottage businesses transformed to the factory system, which employed a division of labour and machinery-based manufacturing process, during the Industrial Revolution. At the start of the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s, the factory system was initially implemented in Great Britain and quickly extended around the world. The employment of machinery, initially propelled by steam or water and subsequently by electricity, is the primary feature of the factory system. When cotton spinning was mechanised, the factory system spread widely. The factory would receive raw cotton, spin it, bleach it, dye it, and weave it into finished cloth. Before the factory system, many goods, such as shoes, were crafted by expert artisans, who would typically create an entire item by hand. By contrast, factories employed a division of labour whereby most workers were either unskilled workers who moved materials and finished things or low-skilled labourers who operated machinery. From the textile industry, the factory system expanded to other sectors of the economy. To produce metal, small local forges and blacksmiths were replaced by massive furnaces and mills. Eventually, machines took the position of skilled artisans in most of the items that were produced.
1.2 Need of Products Made by Industries
As time passes, the need of the products manufactured by various industries grows exponentially. This is mainly to give comfort to the people in their day-today life. Take the case of cycle, which helps people to move from one place another place. Later, it has been partially replaced by powered motor cycle, which serves the same purpose, but with power using fuel. This gives the comfort of travelling long distance in less time. Presently, there are high powered two wheelers, which can travel at a speed of more than 100 km per hr. If one compares the growth of the technology from cycle to high powered two-wheeler, there is a tremendous improvement in terms of end uses to satisfy customers. The goods that are produced by the industries are classified into consumer goods and industrial goods. Consumer goods are completed items that are sold to and utilised by customers, whereas industrial goods are raw materials used to produce other products.     7.1 Introduction
By passing an electrical current through two pieces of plain metal, they can be joined together using resistance welding. The electrical resistance of the metals due to the contact resistance between them, and the electrical current combine to produce the required welding heat. The manufacturing sector frequently uses resistance welding, a type of welding, to join metal sheets and components. In order to create a weld, a high current must be passed through the metal combination to heat it up and eventually melt the metal at a localised points that are chosen based on the electrode and/or workpiece designs. To limit the contact area at the weld interfaces and, in certain cases, to forge the workpieces, a force is always provided prior to, during, and following the application of current. The resistance welding process is classified into the following types.
i. Resistance spot welding (RSW)
ii. Resistance seam welding (RSEW)
iii. Upset welding (UW)
iv. Projection welding (PW)
v. Percussion welding (PEW)
vi. Flash welding (FW)
7.2 Resistance Spot Welding (RSW)
The automotive and aviation industries make extensive use of resistance spot welding, or simply spot welding. Extremely low voltage and very high current are used in this kind of welding. A wide variety of metals, including copper (Cu), titanium (Ti), magnesium (Mg), aluminium (Al), and their alloys are welded by this welding method. RSW is typically used to join thin sheets of metal, either similar or different, in a lap joint form. A few drawbacks of RSW include electrode degradation, misalignment, voids, and cracking. RSW welding of thicker metal sheets is typically challenging due to the ease with which the heat flows in the surrounding metal.

11.1 Introduction 
By passing a metal piece through a gap between two rollers that are revolving in opposite directions (clockwise or anticlockwise), metal can be shaped into a thin, long sheet by the process known as rolling. The working piece of the material to be created should have a thickness smaller than the gap between the two rollers. Rolling is used to convert more than 95% of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys into forms that are suitable for use. Rolling of metals gives the shapes, viz. plate, sheet, strip, foil, and various sections such as rail, beam, channel, angle, bar, rod, and seamless pipe. By allowing the material to travel through the space between two revolving cylindrical rolls, considerable compressive stress is applied to the material throughout the rolling process, which results in permanent deformation. The rolls are kept at a constant distance from one another. They can have grooves or flat. Using an electrical drive system (motor, gearbox, spindle, and couplings), the rolls are rotated in the opposite direction. The input material enters the gap between the rolls from one end and exits the other end with a decreased cross-section. The roll gap area remains less than the cross-sectional area of the input material (rolling stock), depending on the direction of rotation of the rolls. In most cases, the material must be passed through the revolving rolls multiple times to produce the final shape that is desired. The two rolls are brought closer to one another on each pass, or the material is allowed to travel through various sets of roll gaps with decreasing cross-sectional area. The assembly of rolls mounted on bearings is held in bearing blocks, also known as chocks, which are held between the spaces between two cast frames, also known as housings. The complete setup is called rolling mill stand. A rolling mill, also known as a rolling plant, is made up of one or more rolling stands along with other relevant and essential machinery for producing final rolled goods from a single or comparable class of raw materials.

Strategic partnerships and productive outreach play a crucial role for new technologies to successfully reach the market, drive growth, and strengthen a country’s global competitiveness, Outreach programs have various benefits, ranging from technology transfer awareness, communication of stakeholders, industry, government, to academy partnership promotions. These efforts help in establishing connections, communicating opportunities, and encouraging active engagement from key stakeholders. Outreach activities can be performed under two broad categories:
1. Written communication includes all communication which can be viewed, shared, or made accessible for a set of people in a passive manner. This includes reports, newsletters, guidance, and online content which provide insights of worth for stakeholders.
2. Human outreach includes all direct communication like c face-to-face or verbal form communication it included conferences, conventions, workshops, seminars and personal communication with industry leaders.
The type of outreach creates stronger, more personal connections. An effective outreach strategy usually combines both human and written outreach efforts. By following this strategy TTOs can expand and strengthen partnerships, and make it easier for research-led innovations to get transition from lab to market more effectively. This chapter explores key outreach models, strategic networking approaches, and proven practices for building impactful partnerships in technology transfer.

8.1 Key legal statutes and regulatory foundations
Various policy measures were also undertaken by the Government of India in due course of time. The Government of India enacted four science policies after gaining independence, i.e. Scientific Policy Resolution (1958), Technology Policy Statement (1983), Science and Technology Policy (2003) and Science Technology and Innovation Policy (2013). The 1983 Technology Policy Statement possessed a simple goal of creating indigenous technology and boosting efficient absorption and adaptation of imported technologies suited to the nation’s priorities and. The Technology Policy Statement of 1983 was followed up through the establishment of the Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), an autonomous organization entirely owned by the Government of India under the Department of Science and Technology during 1988. TIFAC also offers some funding and supports development and commercialization of technologies through the home-grown technology scheme, among its other operations. The Technology Development Board Act (1995) was also a significant policy move of the government in the same direction. Also in recent times, the Government of India also unveiled its own National IPR Policy 2016 with the motto cum slogan “Creative India, Innovative India”. In addition, the policy is aligned to a number of other schemes of the Indian Government like “Make in India”, “Atal Innovation Mission”, “Start-Up India” and “Stand-Up India”, all aimed at encouraging creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship in the nation.

13.1 Challenges in the technology transfer process
Technology transfer (TT) is more complex and involves the complex interrelationships between universities, research institutes, the private sector, the state, and society. Though TT is all about translating research findings into purposeful solutions that can support the economy and society, it is not a linear process. The challenges can be described as legal, institutional, cultural, financial, policy, and human resource. All this is accompanied by bottlenecks that inhibit or decelerate the diffusion of promising technologies.
13.1.1 Legal and intellectual property challenges
The vital component of technology transfer is the proper management of intellectual property (IP), which is often the most challenging aspect.
• Ambiguities in IP ownership: During multi-institutional or shared funder research, ownership is quite controversial. As an example, when a government lab and a university collaborate on the project, there is ambiguity as to who would have the ultimate licensing authority over the technology: the university, the lab, or the funding agency. This kind of fight hinders commercialisation and scares off industry partners.
• Lengthy patent filing and prosecution timelines: In several jurisdictions, the filings, examination, and granting of a patent may take between three and five years or more. Such delay is not compatible with the rapid cycle of invention in other fields such as ICT or biotechnology, where patent claims may become invalid before they are granted.
• High costs of IP protection: International direct patenting, like under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), is costly and involves legal services, fees, and upkeep costs. These costs are excessively high, which cannot be easily compensated by universities and startups, and where technologies are not secured or limited to local markets.

General Introduction 
Growing populations and industrialisation around the world are driving up energy demand, which increases reliance on fossil fuels. The World Energy Forum projects that global stocks of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, and oil will run out in less than ten years and decades [1]. Fossil fuels account for 88.1% of total energy consumption; they include coal (43%), oil and other liquids (23%), waste (6%), natural gas (6%), and biomass (24%). Hydroelectricity, and nuclear energy, on the other hand, share relatively small percentages of energy (1% and 2%, respectively) [2]. Petro-diesel, also known as petroleum diesel, is currently utilized as a fossil fuel and is created when crude oil is fractionally distilled at temperatures between 250°C and 350°C under atmospheric pressure. Once heated to a certain degree, the different types of diesel fuel are formed via the vaporization of hydrocarbon chains and the isolation and blending of constituents in a prescribed ratio. Typically, 25% of the petrodiesel’s composition consists of aromatic hydrocarbons and 75% of saturated hydrocarbons. The combustion of diesel fuel releases sulfur, nitrogen, and particulate matter into the environment, which are all present in significant concentrations in petro-diesel. Moreover, burning fossil fuels has resulted in several environmental problems, such as greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), which have a major impact on global warming, climate change, and a host of other chronic illnesses [3]. India is ranked as the fourth-biggest importer and user of petroleum products and crude oil. With demand for oil reaching about 4.1 million gallons per day in 2015, there is a growing disparity between India’s oil supplies and supply. The IEA analysis predicts that beyond 2050, there won’t be any oil reserves and that India’s oil consumption will increase by 6.0 million barrels per day to 9.8 mg/d in 2040 [4]. Two-thirds of the growth in oil demand and 16% of the increase in

AMR has been exacerbated by human practices: approximately 50% of antibiotic prescriptions are inappropriate, 70% of global antibiotics fuel agriculture, and environmental pollution creates resistance hotspots [1]. By 2025, AMR directly causes 1.3 million deaths annually, with economic losses projected at $100 trillion by 2050 [1]. Priority pathogens, including carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and colistin-resistant strains via mcr-1, challenge last-resort therapies, particularly in low-resource settings [3]. This chapter delivers a technically extraordinary exploration of AMR, structured into genetic, biochemical, and evolutionary mechanisms, each elaborated with molecular precision and step-by-step clarity for learners. AMR emerged shortly after antibiotics’ introduction, with penicillin-resistant S. aureus identified by 1942 due to ß-lactamase production [1]. The 1960s

The emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance has changed the landscape of infectious disease treatment, creating an urgent need for new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches4’7. Traditional phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing, while remaining the gold standard, requires 24-72 hours for results and provides limited insights into resistance mechanisms. Limited turnaround time is often a constraint that requires empirical use of antibiotics, potentially driving the propagation of other resistance emergence as well as suboptimal patient outcomes. Thanks to mass spectrometry, clinical microbiology has greatly benefitted through the rapid detection of pathogens. However, the application is far broader than species identification. The integration of multiple omics fields like proteomics, metabolomics, genomics, and transcriptomics through mass spectrometry provides unprecedented means to unravel, predict, and combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on a molecular level. The use of a multiomics approach is demonstrated to show that AMR is a complex phenotype that arises from the intersection between genetic mutations, variations in gene expression, metabolic differences, and changes in protein structures that all act in unison to affect bacterial survival in the presence of antibiotics. The conversion of raw mass spectrometry outputs into clinical insights amenable to decision-making is dependent upon bioinformatics. Through the use of sophisticated computational methodologies, such as machine learning and network analysis, bioinformatics provides the means to incorporate heterogeneous omics datasets. Through this approach, resistance-related biomarkers can be identified, predictions for therapeutic efficacy can be made, and new targets for intervention can be identified. The intersection between high-resolution mass spectrometry, broad-based omic profiling, and strictbioinformatics provides a powerful platform for addressing the intractable challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
