Current status of feed and fodder availability in India Globally India ranks 1st in terms of total livestock (535.78 million) and buffalo population in the world (109.85 million), 2nd in cattle (192.49 million), goat (148.88 million) and 3rd in sheep population. So, the availability of adequate quantity and quality feed and fodder resources for livestock is essential for improving livestock productivity. Grazing lands and fodder cultivation areas are gradually dwindling either due to degradation or restriction for livestock grazing. Total area under fodder cultivation is around 8.4 mha (5.23%) which is almost static for the past two decades. Data collection, compilation and analysis of Aquaculture data has a major role to play in Aquaculture research. The time spent in collecting, compiling, analysing statistical data and taking appropriate timely action creates a gap in aquaculture. Therefore timely action is very much essential. This gap can be reduced by taking help of computers in collection, compilation and analysis of statistical data which will save time as well as manpower and will help in taking appropriate action in appropriate time. Electronic spreadsheet has a major role to play in this context even if the user is having little or no programming knowledge. The most widely used office automation package is one of the components which consists of spreadsheet application, in which accounting, balance sheet calculations, statistical data analysis, graphical presentations, etc. are possible with few key strokes and mouse operation only. EXCEL has several capabilities which include opening of a workbook; entering and editing data; building formulas to calculate values; managing list of data; formatting data; creating a chart; saving a workbook; opening and saving files from other spreadsheets; linking documents from other spreadsheets, data analysis, etc.

Dead axle (tractor trolley): An axle beam, which does not drive the road wheels. Usually refers to a rear axle which does not have any rotating parts within it, but on which the rear wheels are mounted with antifriction bearing.

Dahi : It is the product obtained from pasteurized or boiled milk by souring, natural or by harmless lactic acid or other bacterial culture. It is also called Curd.
Daidzein : These are the substance from which daidzein is derived and are isoflavone C₁₅H₁₀O₄ found chiefly in legumes and esp. soybeans.
Dairy : It is a farm building often a single room in which milk is cooled and temporarily stored prior to collection for transportation to the commercial diary. Here the milk is treated and made into cream, butter and cheese. Or

Abnormal milk: It is milk that is not smooth and homogenous but is flaky, ropy, stringy, slimy, watery, discoloured or bad flavoured.
 
Abrassive peeler: It is equipment comprising a rotating drum lined with carborandum (an abrasive material) in which certain vegetables like potato and ginger are tumbled and exposed to the abrasive action of the carborandum lining, thereby facilitating separation of peel from the vegetables (Plate 1).

Absinthe: It is green liquor which is flavored with wormwood, anise, and other aromatic herbs. Its commercial production is banned in many countries for health concerns.

Abstract

In the emerging era of wide spread use of IT tools, up-to-date information on water resources is the key to support economic development, conserve the nature as well as to improve the quality of life. Due to rapid rise in population  and food demand, growing economy and improving living standards; the pressure on our water resources is increasing and it will become scarce in the coming decades if not managed at this stage in a integrated way. Water resources management requires a multi-disciplinary approach that combines a collection of technical tools and expertise along with stakeholders of diverse interests and priorities in planning and management and an operational water resources information system at national level is the first requirement.

The propagation of plants has been a fundamental occupation of mankind since civilization begins. Agriculture started some 10,000 years back when ancient people learned plants and grow kind of plants that fulfilled nutritional needs for themselves and their animals (Hartman et al., 1981). As civilization advanced, people added to the variety of plants cultivating not only for additional food crops but also those that provided fibres, medicine, recreational opportunities and beauty. From the great diversity and variation in plant life, it has been possible to select kinds of plants particularly useful to the welfare of humans and their animals. Bio-diversity has attracted the world wide attention because of growing awareness of its importance on the one hand, and the anticipated awareness depletion on the other. About 20 per cent of all species are expected to be lost within 30 years and 50 per cent or more by the end of 21st Century (Myers, 1993). India is one of the 12 mega-diversity countries globally recognized for its rich diversity, since its geographic position extends from sea level to the highest mountain ranges in the world.

It is a storage structure used to store grains, which is suited to all ecosystems. This structure is invented by ancestors and maintained for more than 100 years until now.

A. In vitro Rumen Fermentation Technique for Forage Quality Evaluation

The term in vitro means “in a glass” in contrast to in vivo which is defined as “within the living body”. In vitro implies a close relationship to an in vivo measurement an in vitro reaction is used as a substitute for a reaction which normally occurs and is observed within a living body. the terms  “artificial rumen” and “in vitro rumen fermentation” are often used interchangeably.

The main advantage of the in vitro techniques rests in the ability to use them to study activity of micro-organisms away form the control and influence imposed by the host animal.
