1.2. Basic Economic Problem

1. Introduction

Despite its importance, intensive aquaculture practices present numerous challenges that can adversely affect fish health and productivity. These stressors lead to increased metabolic activity in fish, which can elevate the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) — highly reactive molecules that can cause cellular damage. Under normal physiological conditions, the production of ROS is counterbalanced by the antioxidant defense mechanisms in fish. However, when the production of ROS exceeds the capacity of these defense systems, oxidative stress ensues.
Oxidative stress is a detrimental condition characterized by an imbalance between ROS generation and the antioxidant capacity of an organism. In fish, this condition can manifest in various forms, including cellular damage, lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation, and DNA damage. Introduction
Schizothoracinae, commonly known as snow trouts, are a specialized group of fish thriving in the fast-flowing, snow-fed streams and lakes of regions such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Himalayas in India and Nepal, China, and parts of the former USSR. Adapted to these challenging environments, Schizothoracinae have not been extensively studied due to the difficult terrain they inhabit. In India, they are primarily found along the Himalayan range, with an exception in the Periyar, Kerela (river and lake). The primitive group includes Schizothorax and Aspiorhynchus, which share more traits with the outgroup Barbodes hexagonolepis. They are distinguished by the presence of uroneuralia, three or four rows of pharyngeal teeth, minimal scale degeneration, and a lack of pronounced sexual dimorphism. The specialized group includes Ptychobarbus, Gymnodiptychus, and Diptychus, and is marked by the absence of uroneuralia, one or two rows of pharyngeal teeth, and moderate scale degeneration. The highly specialized group, which comprises Gymnocypris, Oxygymnocypris, Schizophygopsis, Chuanchia, and Platypharodon, is characterized by the complete absence of barbels and scales and a well-developed canalis preoperculomandibularis (Qi et al., 2012, Yonezawa et al., 2014). The genus Schizothorax comprises 63 species in total. Among these, 34 species are mainly found in Central Asia, while 28 species inhabit the Indo-Himalayan region. The species of Schizothorax in the Himalayan region include S. curvifrons, S. nasus, S. richardsonii, O. sinuatus, S. planifrons, S. esocinus, Schizothoraichthys progastus, S. longipinnis, S. kumanonensis, O. molesworthii, S. hugelli, S. labiatus, and S. micropogon (Menon, 1999; Mishra, 2003; Zhang et al., 2018; Ma et al., 2020).

India is home to numerous native vascular aquatic plants, as well as various non-native species. These aquatic plants include monocots, dicots, periphyton, and angiosperms. They serve as primary producers in the water bodies, contributing to oxygen production and offering nutritional and medicinal benefits. Despite their importance to the aquatic ecosystem, excessive growth of aquatic weeds can pose significant risks to aquatic organisms, particularly fish diversity in the affected areas.
The aquatic macrophytes of the Kashmir valley have been documented extensively by various authors over time, continuously updating the knowledge of the regional aquatic flora. Based on the recent finding of Ganie et al. (2020), the valley currently hosts 191 species of macrophytes, both aquatic and semiaquatic. These plants belong to 27 families and 80 genera, distributed across 22 dicotyledons, 12 monocotyledons, and 3 pteridophytes. Of these, 92 species are fully aquatic, including free-floating and submerged types, while 99 species are semiaquatic and emergent. In terms of diversity, the highest number of macrophyte species (160) has been reported from Kashmir, followed by 94 species in Jammu and 44 species in Ladakh. The distribution of aquatic weeds in the Kashmir valley includes prominent water bodies such as Dal Lake, Wular Lake, and Manasbal Lake. These lakes support a variety of macrophytes, contributing to the rich biodiversity of the valley. Dal Lake, for instance, is known for its extensive growth of Hydrilla verticillata and Potamogeton natans, while Wular Lake hosts species like Nymphaea alba and Trapa natans. The variety of aquatic plants in these water bodies is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and health of the aquatic ecosystems of the valley. The diverse array of aquatic weeds in the waterbodies of the valley acts as a "double-edged sword" for the ecosystem. On one hand, these plants provide oxygen, maintain the nutrient cycle, and serve as food for some phytophagous fishes. On the other hand, their overabundance can create mosquito breeding grounds, absorb vital nutrients from the water, release toxic chemicals, and cause dead zones at night by consuming oxygen for respiration. Therefore, it is crucial to control and manage the population of aquatic weeds to ensure the wellbeing and sustainability of the aquatic ecosystem.

Plant genetic resources (PGRS) encompasses everything that is on the earth related to the plants which are beneficial to mankind (Appazov,2008). So, it is the basic raw material for crop improvement (Somsenet al., 2002). In the present regime of transgenic crops, you can have ‘designer crops’- crops of your willingness (Wisner et al., 2001). From the heritage of mankind to the sovereign rights of the states this is the path that PGRs have traversed, earlier before CBD (Conventional Biological Diversity)(Chakraborty et al., 2018) PGRs were considered as a heritage of mankind freely available to everybody but after signing that they became the sovereign rights of the states with sovereign rights of the nation (Brahmiet al., 2015). In such a scenario where states have their rights on those plants’ genetic wealth, protection becomes very important (Clevelandet al., 1997). DNA fingerprinting is one of the technologies which can facilitate that protection (Wanget al., 2019).Rapeseed-mustard (Brassica spp.) is a vital oilseed crop cultivated extensively in India and other parts of the world (Kumaret al., 2008). It plays a crucial role in ensuring edible oil security and contributes significantly to the agricultural economy(Pahariyaet al., 2007). The genetic diversity within rapeseed-mustard species is a key factor in improving yield potential, disease resistance, and oil quality through breeding programs (Chandet al., 2021). However, accurately identifying and characterizing varieties is a challenge due to phenotypic similarities, environmental influences, and potential genetic erosion(Chhikaraet al., 2024). To address these challenges, DNA fingerprinting has emerged as a powerful molecular tool for precise varietal identification, genetic purity assessment, and germplasm conservation (Hosseinpouret al., 2024).DNA fingerprinting involves the use of molecular markers to generate unique genetic profiles of plant varieties, enabling breeders and researchers to differentiate between closely related cultivars (Singhet al., 2022; Singhet al., 2014). This technology is instrumental in breeding programs, ensuring the registration and protection of plant varieties under legal frameworks such as the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Act (PPV&FRA) in India (Williamet al., 2024). Additionally, DNA-based markers provide valuable insights into genetic relationships, aiding in the efficient selection of parent lines for hybridization and improving crop resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses (Nadeemet al., 2018; Haqueetal., 2021).Over the past two decades, several DNA fingerprinting techniques, including Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP), Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR), and Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), have been widely applied to characterize rapeseed-mustard varieties (Nybomet al., 2014; Panjabietal.,2019) Advances in high-throughput genotyping and nextgeneration sequencing (NGS) technologies have further enhanced the resolution and accuracy of genetic profiling, paving the way for marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic-assisted breeding strategies (Sinhaet al., 2023).

Introduction to Molecular Markers in Vegetable Breeding
As global demand for food continues to rise, the agricultural sector faces mounting challenges from climate change and resource limitations. These pressures necessitate an urgent transformation in farming practices, making molecular markers vital for enhancing crop improvement strategies (Tester and Langridge, 2010). Traditional breeding techniques, which often rely on phenotypic selection and protracted breeding cycles, find it increasingly difficult to produce resilient, high-yield cultivars (Bernardo, 2016). Molecular markers, including Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs), and Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphisms (AFLPs), provide direct access to plant genomes, allowing for the precise identification and manipulation of desirable traits regardless of environmental variability (Varshney et al., 2005). This approach is essential for expediting breeding programs and enhancing genetic gains, ultimately leading to crops better suited for diverse and evolving climates (Jannink et al., 2010).Additionally, the integration of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and genomic selection (GS) harnesses high-density marker data to deepen our understanding of complex trait genetics, fostering sustainable agricultural practices and securing future food supplies (Hickey et al., 2019).

Identification of crop varieties is one of the major tasks required in modern agriculture, plant breeding, and seed certification systems. The correctness of identification ensures that the varietal purity is sustained, advocates the rights of plant breeders, and guarantees quality seeds that will perform expectedly under specified agro-climatic conditions to farmers (Yu and Chung, 2021). The growing number of crop varieties due to the intensive breeding programmes all over the world makes it equally important to be able to differentiate between cultivars. Variety identification serves several purposes, such as:
• Seed Quality Assurance: Used to prevent the sale of spurious or mislabeled seeds.
• Intellectual Property Rights (IPR): Legal protection of new plant varieties by acts like the Plant Variety Protection (PVP).
• Biodiversity Conservation: Tracking and documenting existing genetic resources.
• Regulatory Compliance: Aids in Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (DUS) testing protocols.
• Traceability in Food Supply Chains: Ensures safety for consumers and compliance with labeling standards.
Thus, crop variety identification forms the basis of integrity in agricultural systems and is the coordination mechanism for protecting innovations in plant breeding with regulatory frameworks both at national and international levels (Jones et al., 2013; Kage et al., 2016; Cockram et al., 2012).

The movement of water within the soil is driven by precipitation, irrigation, evaporation, and plant uptake (Aggarwal et al., 2009). It can be affected by soil physical properties such as soil texture, structure, porosity, and permeability. Water moves through the soil in response to hydraulic gradients, which are determined by the difference in soil water potential. Soil temperature is influenced by solar radiation, air temperature, and heat fluxes at the soil surface. It varies with depth and can be affected by factors such as soil color, moisture content, vegetation cover, and the thermal properties of the soil. The hydrothermal regime of soil has significant implications for plant growth and development. Nanotechnology, which involves manipulating and controlling matter at the nanoscale, offers innovative solutions for enhancing soil quality, nutrient management, and remediation of contaminated soils (Lal et al., 2019). According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO, 2015), approximately 33% of global soils are degraded due to erosion, nutrient depletion, and chemical contamination. This degradation poses a severe threat to food security and environmental sustainability. Moreover, the world population is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, placing further pressure on agricultural systems to produce more food without degrading soil resources (Tripathi et al., 2019). In this context, nanotechnology presents a promising avenue for sustainable soil management. The unique properties exhibited by nanomaterials enable precise monitoring, targeted delivery of nutrients, and effective remediation of soil contaminants. Nanosensors equipped with nanomaterials and nanoparticles allow real-time monitoring of soil parameters, enabling farmers to make informed decisions regarding irrigation, fertilization, and pest management (Gogos et al., 2017). For instance, a case study conducted by Smith et al. (2021) demonstrated the effectiveness of nanosensors in monitoring soil moisture levels and optimizing irrigation practices, resulting in a 20% reduction in water usage while maintaining crop yield.
Furthermore, nanotechnology offers innovative solutions for nutrient management in agricultural soils. Nanoencapsulation techniques allow controlled release of fertilizers, minimizing nutrient leaching and improving nutrient uptake by plants (Lal et al., 2019). In a case study by Johnson et al. (2020), the application of nanoencapsulated fertilizers resulted in a 15% increase in nutrient use efficiency and a reduction in fertilizer runoff by 30%, thus improving soil health and reducing environmental pollution.
Moreover, nanomaterials exhibit high sorption and catalytic properties, enabling efficient removal of heavy metal contaminants and organic pollutants from soils, thus mitigating soil contamination risks (Wang et al., 2022). A case study conducted by Chen et al. (2019) demonstrated the successful remediation of a heavily contaminated soil site using iron oxide nanoparticles, resulting in a significant reduction in heavy metal concentrations and improvement in soil health indicators.

Global food security threatened by climate change is one of the most important challenges in the 21st century to supply sufficient food for the increasing population on diminishing agricultural land while sustaining the already stressed environment. Global agricultural production is highly vulnerable as key crops such as maize, wheat, rice, and legumes will be negatively affected by climate change. The study showed that each degree Celsius increase in global mean temperature is estimated to reduce the average global yield of cereal crops by 6-15%. Further, predicted changes in climate may affect water availability and key soil processes such as respiration and nitrogen (N) mineralization, thus key ecosystem functions such as carbon (C) storage, nutrients, and water availability. Although crop growth simulation models are being utilized to understand the impact of climate change scenarios on aboveground biomass, the roots and their architecture, which are essential for plant adaptation and productivity, need to be studied more due to the difficulty of observing them during the plant life cycle. The root system and its architecture are highly responsive to external environmental conditions such as soil moisture, nutrients, temperature, pH and microbial communities; therefore, it is high time to study below-ground responses to future climate scenarios. The study of plant roots represents a highly promising yet underexplored area of research related to plant growth. While the aerial parts of plants have received significant attention due to their visibility and accessibility, the underground portions have been largely overlooked due to the challenges in observing and sampling them and the disruption caused when roots are removed from the soil. Plants’ efficiency of water and mineral nutrient uptake largely depends on how effectively new root tips penetrate soil horizons and how these roots eventually die and decompose. The plant’s ability to access soil resources depends on the size of its root system and the activity of its growing root tips. Root growth is influenced by both genetic factors and environmental conditions. For example, fine root dynamics vary with the seasons, with increased vegetative growth and nutrient release occurring during the monsoon months. (Kumar et al., 2020). Further research is needed to assess how different tillage and water management practices affect rooting behaviours, soil water extraction, and nutrient uptake.

Sustainable crop production describes farming practices that do not negatively impact the environment, biodiversity, natural agroecosystem, or the quality of the crops produced. Growing crops sustainably improves the system’s capacity to sustain long-term, steady, and uniform levels of food production and quality without raising the need for or increasing the demand for agricultural inputs necessary for effective management. Sustainable crop production deals with keeping the soil healthy with the integrated approach of maintaining organic matter, protecting biodiversity while reducing use of pesticides, ensuring food safety and food quality. It is an approach to grow food to feed our population without adversely affecting the natural ecosystem, soil and biodiversity, natural resources, environment etc. Since the soil is one of the key natural resources for food production, establishing and preserving soil health is crucial for agricultural sustainability and ecosystem function. The distinction between soil quality and health is quite narrow, and the phrases are sometimes used interchangeably. The “fitness for use,” “capacity of a soil to function,” or “the ability of the soil to serve as a natural medium for the growth of plants that sustain human and animal life” are some basic definitions of soil quality (Karlen et al., 1992; Pierce & Larson, 1993; Doran & Parkin, 1994; Acton and Gregorich, 1995; Karlen et al., 1997). Assessment of soil health by analyzing different associated attributes is necessary to monitor its status. However, soil health or quality evaluation focuses on the physical, chemical, and biological parameters which are highly interlinked to one another. All the parameters have their significant effect in governing overall soil health. This chapter will discuss the chemical parameters only which are very much important for the sustainable crop production and have very crucial role in determining the soil health. The increase in the world population coupled with climatic fluctuations such as drought, floods, and high temperatures poses a serious threat to food security (Ray et al., 2013). Many researchers have quoted the importance of enhancing the genetic gain of primary crops at a faster rate to meet global food demands (Lin et al., 2016). It remains a challenging task for plant breeders to evolve resilient varieties in a shorter period by employing conventional approaches. The slow progress in crop improvement is mainly attributed to long breeding cycles/generations (Samantara et al., 2022). To overcome the drawbacks involved in traditional methods and to safeguard food security, speed-breeding methods are now being adopted at large or small units to achieve rapid genetic gains in many crop species. The speed breeding techniques include the use of controlled environments with manipulation provisions for light duration, intensity and temperature. This approach is more advantageous for helping plant breeders hasten crop development in several major photosensitive crops (Singh and Janeja, 2021).
Breeding a new crop variety via a conventional approach requires the selection of complementary parental genotypes with desired traits, followed by crosses and a series of selections and advancements of superior progenies to release candidate cultivars that meet market demands (Shimelis and Laing, 2012). Notable breeding goals in crop cultivar development programs include increased yield potential and nutritional quality and enhanced tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses (Breseghello and Coelho, 2013). In any crop improvement program, the following breeding procedures can be distinguished in the order presented: (a) selection of desirable parents with complementary traits to be combined; (b) crosses involving the selected parents and the development of progenies; (c) selection and genetic advancement of the best progenies based on target traits; (d) selection of the best progenies for screening in multiple target production environments to identify the best performing and stable candidate cultivars; and (e) cultivar registration and seed multiplication and distribution to growers (Shimelis and Laing, 2012). Nutritional significance of millets
Millets, nutrient-dense grains rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre, are emerging as vital components of a balanced diet, particularly in regions where they serve as staple foods. Their high content of essential amino acids, iron, calcium, zinc, and B vitamins makes them crucial for addressing micronutrient deficiencies (Hassan, 2021). As gluten-free grains, millets are suitable for individuals with celiac disease or gluten intolerance, broadening their dietary appeal. Additionally, millets are rich in health-beneficial phenolic compounds, making them suitable for food and feed. Finger millet, with its diverse phenolic profile, has higher antioxidant activity than pearl millet. These phytochemicals positively impact human health by lowering cholesterol and phytates. Incorporating millets into human and livestock diets can improve health, reduce disease risks, and ease the pressure on maize (Hassan, 2021).

Unlike refined grains, millets have a low glycaemic index, releasing glucose slowly into the bloodstream. This characteristic helps manage blood sugar levels and prevents spikes, making millets an excellent food choice for individuals with diabetes. Numerous studies have demonstrated that regular millet consumption can offer a variety of health benefits. The high fiber content in millets supports digestion, prevents constipation, and promotes a healthy gut microbiome (Jacob, 2024) Consuming millets can lower the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. The antioxidants present in millets protect against oxidative stress and inflammation, which are key contributors to many health conditions. Furthermore, millets high fibre content and low glycaemic index promote feelings of fullness, regulate blood sugar levels, and help maintain a healthy body weight. Millets are ancient small grains grown in arid and semi-arid regions of the world, serving as staple foods for many people in Asia and Africa. Abundant sources of minerals and vitamins, they are often referred to as Nutri cereals. Millets contain valuable phytochemicals that provide therapeutic properties for various disorders and diseases, giving them nutraceutical value. (Mishra, 2022)
A wide array of biochemical compounds is present in the plant parts and grains. In the oldest texts of medicine in India and China, millets are noted for their medicinal value. Expanding interest and emerging facts highlight their therapeutic uses, with ample evidence showing that millet consumption aids in correcting lifestyle and metabolic disorders. The therapeutic properties of millets can be viewed in two ways: supplementary nutrition through minerals and vitamins, and therapeutic value through phytochemicals and specialty compounds like flavonoids, phenolics, and anthocyanidins that have antioxidant potential (Chellappan 2024). Millets are gluten-free, have a low glycaemic index, and their phytochemicals help correct lifestyle disorders and prevent ailments such as carcinogenesis. A breeding value is essentially the additive effect of a trait of interest that can be passed on stably to offspring. In artificial selection, the breeding values of the genotypes are determined. Hence, the key question is how to quantify the breeding value of a genotype for a phenotypic trait of interest that is part of a breeding program. As part of the process of breeding livestock, the estimated breeding value (EBV) is predicted based on a model that relates the phenotype over a population of genotypes with their pedigree information by using the best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP). Nevertheless, this method is not feasible for populations with no pedigree information or a complex population structure, which is typically the case in plant breeding when there are no pedigree records. With genomic selection (GS), this problem is addressed by determining the genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV), which addresses the problem by using genome-wide markers and combining them with various machine learning approaches in order to estimate the breeding value (Meuwissen et al. 2001). It is for this reason that the GS models are developed in a training population that is both genotyped and phenotype. GS model that has been created can be used for predicting phenotypic traits in unseen genotypes as well as for genotype selection in another population, called the breeding population (testing population) that has genotyped data only. The GS procedure described here can be applied to predict phenotypic traits for inbred as well as hybrid populations. As a result of this procedure, GS cuts in half the time it would take for a breeding cycle to be completed in order to develop new cultivars. All GS approaches rely on a method that is statistical in nature as they use a mathematical relationship between genotypic and phenotypic data in order to predict genotypes values.
Genetic improvement of crops has been a cornerstone of agricultural development, making a significant contribution to the food security and economic growth of the global economy. Plant breeding poses a great deal of challenge when it comes to selecting the best individuals. The use of visual selection has not yielded the desired genetic gain compared to the results derived from the estimation of breeding values.

Crop breeding programmes are under increasing pressure for developing cultivars that possess the ability to adapt to diverse environments while maintaining higher quality and quantity, in response to the escalating worldwide demand for food. The primary goal of plant or crop breeding is to attain genetic enhancement, leading to the creation of new varieties that demonstrate higher yield and superior quality. Hence, the central aim of crop breeding initiatives is to develop novel cultivars that demonstrate improved resistance against fungal, bacterial, insect, or viral pathogens, alongside increased tolerance to abiotic stresses such as drought low temperature, salinity, dehydration, and heavy metal toxicity. Additionally these breeding efforts aim to improve quality attributes, including taste, size shape, colour, and cooking convenience (Lenaerts et al., 2019). The ability to anticipate emergent phenotypes resulting from genetic or environmental disruptions necessitates the utilization of methodologies capable of identifying metabolic pathways or canopy structures suitable for change. The insilico tools have the potential to guide breeding endeavours aimed at developing novel germplasm that exhibits robust adaptation to diverse environmental conditions. The precise simulation of organisms in a computational environment is a current and effective approach to enhance prediction abilities. Significant progress has been made in the field of predictive medicine through the implementation of community projects that utilize integrative, multi-scale modeling techniques. However, there are a lot of crop models that are just geographically and temporally restricted, which limits their ability to go beyond the data that is now available and, consequently, leads to insufficient forecasts regarding crop reactions in novel circumstances. The plant community has launched or continued a coordinated endeavour focused on the development of a virtual plant modelling through consolidative and multi-scale mapping, models and simulations (Marshall-Colon et al., 2017).

The hematoxylin and eosin stain are most widely used histological stain. Its popularity lies in its simple staining procedure and ability to demonstrate most tissue structures. Hematoxylin, also called natural black is a compound extracted from heartwood of the logwood tree (Haematoxylum campechianum) with a chemical formula of C16H14O6. This naturally derived dye has been used as a histologic stain, ink and as a dye in the textile and leather industry.
Hematoxylin, a natural dye was first used in about 1863. Hematoxylin itself is not a stain; it is its oxidation product, hematein. This process known as “ripening” takes several days or weeks unless it is hastened by the addition of an oxidizing agent. So the active coloring agent hematein can be produced from hematoxylin in two ways:

B. Chemical oxidation: Sodium iodate is the most common oxidizing agent for this purpose, although there are others, such as potassium permanganate, iodine, bleach and mercuric oxide. It is now strongly recommended that mercuric oxide not be used for this oxidation as it eventually makes its way into the environment as a poison.
As the hematoxylin dye has little affinity for the tissue when used alone, it is usually used in conjunction with a mordant, therefore can be arbitrarily classified based on which mordant is used:

Introduction
• Cytogenetics is essentially a branch of genetics, but is also a part of cell biology/ cytology (a subdivision of human anatomy), that is concerned with how the chromosomes relate to cell behavior, particularly to their behaviour during mitosis and meiosis. Techniques used include karyotyping analysis of G-band chromosomes, as well as molecular cytogenetics such as fluorescent in situ hybridization (CGH). Cytogenetic approaches to studying chromosomes and their relationship to human disease have improved greatly over the past several decades.
As a mature enterprise, cytogenetics now inform genomics, disease and cancer genetics, chromosomes evolution and the relationship of nuclear structure to function. Cytogenetics involves testing samples of tissue, blood or bone marrow in a laboratory to look for changes in chromosomes including broken, missing, rearranged or extra chromosome. Cytogenetics may used to help diagnose a disease or condition, plan treatment or find out how well treatment is working.
Chromosomes
Chromosomes are the rod shaped; dark-stained bodies seen during metaphase stage of mitosis. The chromosomes are the nuclear components of special organization, individuality and function. They are capable of self-reproduction and play a vital role in heredity, mutation, variation and evolutionary development of the species. Chromosomes are thread-like structure located inside the nucleus. Each chromosome is made up of DNA tightly coiled many times around proteins called histones that support its structure. The number of chromosomes is constant for a particular species. Therefore, these are of great importance in the determination of the phylogeny and taxonomy of the species. The number of chromosomes varies from species to species but the number remains constant in a species. But sometime, due to certain accidents or irregularities at the time of cell division, crossing over or fertilization some alteration in morphology and number of chromosomes takes place. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes-22 pairs of numbered chromosomes, called autosomes, and one pair of sex chromosome, X and Y. Each parent contributes one chromosome to each pair so that offspring get half of their chromosomes from mother and half from their father.

This book, “Meteorology and Geography” is designed to equip aspiring fisheries professionals with a foundational understanding of the atmospheric and terrestrial processes that profoundly influence aquatic ecosystems and, consequently, the distribution, abundance, and health of fish and other commercially important species. For too long, the study of fisheries has sometimes been perceived as largely focused on the biology and ecology within the water itself. While these aspects are undeniably vital, the reality is that aquatic environments are not isolated entities. They are inextricably linked to the atmosphere above and the land surrounding them. The weather patterns we experience daily – from sunshine and rainfall to storms and temperature fluctuations – directly impact the physical and chemical characteristics of our oceans, lakes, and rivers. Similarly, the geographical landscape, including topography, soil composition, and coastal features, plays a critical role in shaping these aquatic habitats. Consider for a moment the seemingly simple act of rain. Rainfall over land influences river discharge, bringing nutrients and sediments into freshwater and coastal systems. Changes in salinity, turbidity, and nutrient levels can dramatically alter the suitability of these waters for different fish species. Strong winds can drive ocean currents, upwelling events that bring nutrientrich deep waters to the surface, and the dispersal of fish larvae. Extreme weather events like cyclones and floods can cause devastating impacts on both wild and aquaculture-based fisheries. Furthermore, the broader geographical context dictates the regional climate, influencing long-term patterns of water temperature, precipitation, and wind. These climatic conditions, in turn, determine the types of aquatic ecosystems that can thrive in a particular area and the species that inhabit them.5 Understanding these geographical controls is essential for predicting the potential and limitations of fisheries in different regions.

Precipitation is a vital component of the Earth’s water cycle, playing a crucial role in shaping our climate, weather, and ecosystems. It occurs when water vapor in the atmosphere condenses and falls to the ground as rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Precipitation is a key driver of weather patterns, influencing everything from local weather events to global climate trends.
In this chapter, we will explore the various forms of precipitation, including rain, snow, sleet, and hail, and examine the factors that influence their formation and distribution. We will also discuss the importance of precipitation in sustaining life on Earth, from supporting plant growth and agriculture to shaping landscapes and ecosystems. The key topics are:

14.1.2 How it Works
• Temperature Rise: When the temperature rises, the alcohol in the bulb expands, pushing the mercury up the arm on the maximum temperature side. The mercury pushes the index upwards, and this index stays at the highest point reached as the mercury falls back down with decreasing temperature.
• Temperature Fall: When the temperature falls, the alcohol in the bulb contracts, pulling the mercury down on the minimum temperature side (and thus up on the maximum side). The mercury on the minimum side pushes its index upwards. As the temperature rises again, the mercury retreats, leaving the minimum temperature index at the lowest point reached.
• Reading the Thermometer: To read the maximum temperature, you look at the lower end of the index on the maximum temperature scale. To read the minimum temperature, you look at the lower end of the index on the minimum temperature scale. The current temperature can be read from either side by noting the position of the top of the mercury column.
• Resetting the Thermometer: After taking the readings, the indices need to be reset. This is typically done using a small magnet to pull the steel indices back down to the current level of the mercury.

In an era defined by rapid technological advancements and an ever-changing climate, the need for precise, adaptive, and actionable weather intelligence has never been greater. As global weather patterns become more erratic and extreme events increasingly disrupt lives and livelihoods, the integration of real-time field response into weather intelligence systems represents a transformative opportunity. Just as companies like Google and Tesla leverage real-time user inputs to continuously update their software, refine artificial intelligence (AI) models, and provide timely road-and-traffic guidance, weather intelligence systems that are continuously refined by feedback from farmers, fishermen, and other local stakeholders offer the promise of dynamic, “live” insights that can revolutionize agricultural practices and community resilience (Fig.10.1). This chapter delves into the critical importance of collecting and synthesizing feedback from those who are on the frontlines of weather impacts. It explores the methodologies and benefits of integrating real-time field data into weather intelligence systems, drawing parallels to the iterative processes observed in hightech industries. In doing so, we highlight how these innovations can maximize

1. Introduction
With commercial uses ranging from the production of high-quality substances to the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, hydrogenation is an essential step in the formation of organic compounds (Cerveny et al., 1986). There are two main approaches to hydrogenation: direct hydrogenation, which employs pressurized hydrogen gas, and transfer hydrogenation (TH). A versatile and effective approach for producing a large variety of hydrogenated molecules, the TH method entails adding H2 to molecules via an origin other than H2 gas. This approach is increasingly preferred over direct hydrogenation and has recently attracted considerable interest in hydrogenation research. The benefits of the TH method include (i) the elimination of potentially dangerous pressurized hydrogen gas and the complexity of experimental setups, (ii) the accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use of hydrogen donors, (iii) the potential to recycle the main byproduct, and (iv) the availability and stability of the catalysts employed (Brieger et al., 1974).
1.1. The Historical Context, Core Principles, and Groundbreaking Research on TH (transfer hydrogenation)
With a history spanning more than a century, the TH reaction has a rich past. In order to enable hydrogen transfer between equivalent donor and acceptor units, Knoevenagel showed in 1903 that palladium black could efficiently aid in the disproportionation of dimethyl 1,4-dihydro terephthalate into dimethyl terephthalate and cis-hexahydroterephthalate. Three primary types of hydrogen transfer reactions were distinguished by Braude and Linstead: (i) the hydrogen movement within a single molecule; (ii) hydrogen disproportionation, which entails transfer among identical donor and acceptor units; and (iii) TH-dehydrogenation, which takes place between distinct donor and acceptor units. Of them, THdehydrogenation— often just called TH—is the most well-known and often applied sector. Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reductions, early transition metal-catalyzed reactions, organocatalytic processes, enzyme-catalyzed reactions, heat techniques, and base-catalyzed reactions are among the types of TH reactions that are classified according to the type of catalyst used. The historical context, important research, and underlying ideas of each category will be covered in detail in this section.In 1925, Meerwein et al. independently reported the significant MPV reduction, which were the first TH process involving carbonyl groups. After earning his Ph.D. under Richard Anschütz in Bonn, where he was appointed a professor in 1914, Hans Meerwein (1879–1965) moved to Königsberg in 1922 and then to Marburg. His name is associated with a number of processes and reagents,

Palladium (Pd), which has the atomic number 46, was discovered in 1803 by the English chemist William Hyde Wollaston. It is a well-known transition metal recognized for its versatile catalytic properties in chemical reactions, material sciences, and various industries. The palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions extend beyond the formation of biaryls. Many carbon–carbon, carbon–nitrogen, and carbon–oxygen bond-forming reactions in organic chemistry are facilitated by palladium salts and catalytic systems derived from palladium. Some notable organic reactions that involve palladium include the Mizoroki-Heck reaction, (Biffis et al., 2018, Koranne et al., 2023, Lee et al., 2021) Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, (Zhang et al., 2023) Negishi reaction, (Haas et al., 2016). Stille coupling, (Cordovilla et al., 2015). Sonogashira coupling, (Chinchilla & Najera, 2007) Tsuji-Trost reactions, (Kvasovs et al., 2023). and Wacker catalytic processes. (Zhang et al., 2023) In this chapter, we will focus on the applications of palladium and its salts in C-N bond-forming reactions.
2. Palladium (Pd)-Catalyzed C–N Bond Formation
Besides copper, palladium metal is considered as the most widely used metal in organic synthesis. The discovery of cross-coupling reactions catalyzed by palladium(0) complexes in the 1970s was a highly important achievement that substantially changed the strategy of organic chemistry. Best applications of the palladium salts are in enantiolective and new C-N bond forming reactions. Stephen L. Buchwald and John F. Hartwig opened up the catalytic scope of palladium in newer methodologies on C–N bond forming reactions during 1990s, (Ruiz- Castillo & Buchwald, 2016) and henceforth, new methodologies of carbocycles, heterocycles, and simple organic compounds have been created in large scales (Rayadurgam et al., 2021). The mechanisms of palladium-catalyzed C-N cross-coupling reactions are critically discussed in numerous high-quality research journals with different theoretical and experimentally proven methods (Beletskaya & Averin, 2021). However, the most acceptable mechanistic pathway to reaction products in these Pd-catalyzed reactions involving palladium is illustrated in Scheme 1. The process begins with the formation of a palladium complex through the reaction of an aryl halide (which can be aliphatic, heteroaryl, or functionalized alkenes/alkynes), a palladium salt, and amino nucleophiles. In the presence of a suitable base, the loosely bonded halide or any leaving groups are eliminated, leading to the formation of a palladium (IV) complex. This complex then undergoes reductive elimination, resulting in stable aminated aryl, heteroaryl, alkyl, or functionalized alkenes/ alkynes. Additionally, a more generalized reaction mechanism is presented in a circular pathway format, highlighting the bonding approaches, rearrangements, intermediate formations, and the final release of target compounds, as depicted in Scheme 1. The involvement of higher valence organo-palladium complexes in such catalytic transformations have been well established (Hickman & Sanford, 2012).

These diverse sources, including plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms, produce a wide range of chemical structures and functions. The significance of natural products lies in their diverse biological activities and potential applications in therapeutics, agriculture, and various industries. Natural products have been used for centuries in traditional medicine and continue to serve as the foundation for many modern pharmaceuticals, providing templates for the development of synthetic analogues and novel drugs. Their complexity and unique structural features often translate into high biological activity, making them valuable in the discovery of new therapeutic agents. Furthermore, natural products are generally perceived as safer and more environmentally friendly compared to synthetic chemicals, contributing to their appeal in numerous applications.
1.2. Historical Perspective on the Use of Natural Products
The use of natural substances has a long history, with evidence of their application in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, China, India, and Greece. Traditional medical systems, including Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Indigenous practices, have utilized plants, animals, and minerals to treat various ailments. These early practices laid the foundation for the systematic investigation of natural products and their medicinal potential. One of the earliest documented uses of natural products in medicine is the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian text from around 1550 BCE (Packard, 1931). Similarly, ancient Indian texts, such as the Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita, describe the use of plant-based medicines in Ayurvedic tradition. The scientific investigation of natural products gained momentum in the 19th century, with the isolation of pure compounds, including morphine, quinine, and penicillin.
1.3. Current Trends and Applications
Natural products are invaluable in various industries, serving as a rich source of bioactive compounds for drug development, sustainable agriculture, and functional food products. Many modern medicines, such as the anticancer drug paclitaxel and the antimalarial artemisinin, are derived from natural sources. These naturally-derived compounds often possess unique structures and mechanisms of action that are difficult to replicate synthetically.

The climate crisis has emerged as one of the most pressing issues of our time, threatening the very foundations of our planet and its inhabitants. The scientific consensus is clear: human activities, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases, are significantly contributing to the rising global temperatures, devastating natural disasters, and unpredictable weather patterns. As the world grapples with the challenges posed by climate change, a critical question arises: is it a compromise or a compulsion to act? The climate crisis is a complex and multifaceted issue, requiring a comprehensive and collective response. On one hand, there are those who advocate for a compromise, suggesting that economic growth and development can be balanced with environmental concerns (Fig. 2.1). This approach emphasizes the need for gradual and incremental changes, allowing countries and industries to adapt to new regulations and technologies. Proponents of this view argue that a compromise is necessary to avoid economic disruption, ensure energy security, and promote international cooperation. Fig. 2.1. Eco-evolutionary feedback by carbon cycling traits, in response to climate change On the other hand, there are those who insist that the climate crisis demands a compulsion to act, requiring immediate, drastic, and collective action. This perspective emphasizes the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, and protect vulnerable communities from the impacts of climate change. Advocates of this view argue that the window for action is rapidly closing, and that anything less than a concerted and emergency response will condemn future generations to a catastrophic and unlivable world. The science unequivocally supports the latter perspective. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned that in order to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, global carbon emissions must reach net-zero by 2050. This requires a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030, and a complete phase-out of fossil fuels by 2050. The consequences of inaction are stark: more frequent and intense natural disasters, sea-level rise, water scarcity, food insecurity, and mass migration (Fig. 2.1).

Chapter 6 delves into the critical role of monsoon rainfall in shaping the economies and lives of numerous countries across the globe. While the concept of a country being only dependent on monsoons is a simplification, this chapter focuses on regions where the seasonal monsoon rains are the paramount source of freshwater for agriculture, industry, and daily life. These monsoon-dependent nations, predominantly located in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, parts of Africa, and even areas of South America, experience a dramatic annual cycle of wet and dry periods dictated by the shifting monsoon winds. The arrival and intensity of the monsoon rains are not merely meteorological events; they are pivotal determinants of agricultural yields, food security, economic stability, and the overall well-being of billions of people. Given this profound dependence, accurate and timely forecasting of monsoon rainfall is of paramount importance. The second part of this chapter explores the current state of the art in monsoon forecasting. We will examine the sophisticated methodologies and technologies employed by meteorological agencies and research institutions worldwide to predict the onset, duration, intensity, and spatial distribution of monsoon rains. This includes an overview of empirical models leveraging historical climate data, the increasing reliance on complex dynamical models that simulate atmospheric and oceanic processes, and the integration of advanced statistical techniques like Bayesian methods and downscaling to enhance forecast accuracy and regional specificity. Understanding the strengths and limitations of these cutting-edge forecasting techniques is crucial for effective water resource management, agricultural planning, disaster preparedness, and ultimately, for building resilience in monsoon-dependent regions.

Real-time crop monitoring for efficient climate guidance extends beyond monsoon-dependent regions and holds significant importance in a global agricultural context. While the fundamental technologies and principles remain similar, the specific applications and benefits are tailored to the diverse agricultural systems and climates worldwide.
10.1. Global Applicability Across Diverse Agricultural Systems
• Rain-fed Agriculture (Beyond Monsoons): In semi-arid and arid regions globally, where rainfall is scarce and unpredictable, real-time monitoring of soil moisture and plant stress through remote sensing and ground sensors is crucial for optimizing the limited water resources and implementing drought management strategies (Fig.10.1).
• Irrigated Agriculture: Even in systems relying on irrigation, real-time monitoring helps optimize water usage based on actual crop needs and prevailing weather conditions, preventing over-irrigation and conserving water, a critical resource globally.
• Temperate and High-Latitude Agriculture: In these regions, real-time monitoring can track temperature fluctuations, frost risks (as you researched previously), and the impact of shorter growing seasons on crop development, allowing for timely interventions like frost protection or adjustments to planting schedules.
• Tropical Agriculture: Beyond monsoons, tropical regions often face challenges like high humidity and pest/disease pressure. Real-time monitoring of leaf wetness and other microclimate factors aids in targeted pest and disease management, reducing the need for broad-spectrum applications.

As global climate change becomes an increasingly urgent concern, the search for sustainable and renewable energy sources has intensified. Among the alternatives to fossil fuels, biofuels have emerged as a promising solution due to their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on petroleum. Biofuels are derived from organic matter, such as crops, agricultural residues and other biomass, which can be converted into energy sources like ethanol, biodiesel, and biogas. For instance, crops like corn and soybeans contain oil extracts that can be processed into biofuels, offering a renewable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels (Demirbas, 2009). However, the potential of biofuels extends beyond these conventional sources, as researchers explore a wide range of organic materials that can be sustainably regrown and harvested, minimizing ecological impacts (Naik et al., 2010). Biofuels have gained significant importance in both developed and developing economies, driven by their potential to enhance energy security and reduce carbon footprints. In 2023, the United States led global biofuel production with 15,550 million gallons, followed by Brazil with 8,260 million gallons. India ranked third, producing 1,430 million gallons of bioethanol and achieving an E11.7 blend rate during the 2022–2023 period. This blend was sourced from various feedstocks, including sugarcane juice (5%), cane molasses (5%), and damaged food grains (DFG) (1.7%). Historically, India’s ethanol production has relied heavily on sugarcane molasses, but the National Biofuel Policy (NBP) of 2018 has been instrumental in promoting the use of biofuels to reduce fossil fuel dependence, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen energy security (Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, 2018). India, the third-largest energy-consuming nation globally, faces considerable challenges due to its heavy dependence on imported oil, posing risks to both economic stability and strategic security. With its share of global energy consumption projected to double by 2050, the country is actively seeking domestic alternatives to curb this reliance. Ethanol, produced within India, has emerged as a viable substitute. Since its initial pilot in 2001, ethanol-blended petrol has demonstrated notable environmental advantages, with every 10 million liters reducing CO2 emissions by 8,000–17,000 tonnes compared to conventional

Maize (Zea mays L.) which belongs to the Poaceae family, has its roots in the American continent where it was once grown by ancient cultures like the Indians, Magyars, and Aztecs. Today, maize is one of the most widely cultivated crops globally, with the largest productions in countries such as the US, China, India, and Brazil. As a monocotyledonous and cross-pollinated annual plant, maize is an angiosperm with seeds enclosed in a fruit or shell. The root system of maize is fibrous, reaching up to 60 cm. in soil depth. Maize is a warm-season crop with specific agro climatic requirements for successful cultivation. It thrives in warm temperatures and requires a minimum temperature of around 10°C (50°F) for germination. The ideal temperature range for its growth is between 20°C and 30°C (68°F to 86°F). However, maize is sensitive to frost, and exposure to freezing temperatures can damage or kill the crop. Adequate and well-distributed rainfall is crucial during its growing season, as maize needs about 500 to 1000 mm. (20 to 40 inches) of rainfall to support its development, with higher water requirements during flowering and grain-filling stages. While the crop is moderately droughttolerant, moisture stress at critical growth stages can significantly impact yield. Maize is a sun-loving crop and requires long daylight hours with ample sunshine for efficient photosynthesis and plant growth. The soil should be well-drained, loamy or sandy, rich in organic matter, and have a pH ranging from 5.8 to 7.0 (Greaves et al., 1996). Avoiding waterlogged or compacted soils is crucial, as they can impede root development and nutrient uptake. Maize can be cultivated at varying altitudes, but its suitability is generally limited to elevations below 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) above sea level. The crop typically requires 90 to 120 days from planting to maturity, although some varieties with shorter growing seasons are available for regions with limited frost-free periods. High salinity can result in decreased plant leaves, green weight, fresh weight, shorter shoots, and root length but salt-tolerant varieties have been developed.

Introduction 
Sorghum bicolor L. Moench, commonly known as sorghum, has emerged as a significant and promising candidate for both sugar and lignocellulosic biofuel production. Cultivated sorghum varieties exhibit a wide range of phenotypic and morphological characteristics, and based on their intended use, they have been categorized into four distinct groups: grain, forage, energy, and sweet sorghum. Grain sorghum varieties typically stand between three to six feet in height, featuring large ear heads. Their primary role is to serve as a source of food for humans or livestock feed. These varieties play a crucial role in providing sustenance and nutrition to both people and animals. Sweet sorghum, also known as sweet stalk sorghum, represents a unique group of genotypes that accumulate soluble sugars within their stalks. These varieties can grow impressively tall, reaching up to twenty feet, and produce significantly higher biomass yields compared to grain sorghum (Murray et al., 2009). Sweet sorghum’s stems are characterized by their thickness and fleshiness, although they do tend to have relatively lower seed yields. Despite this, sweet sorghum offers substantial advantages in terms of bioethanol production due to the high sucrose content present in its stalks (Srinivasa Rao et al. 2009). It has garnered recognition as an ideal candidate for bioenergy crop cultivation in tropical and temperate regions around the world, particularly in the southern United States. When compared to other bioenergy crops such as corn, wheat, sugarcane, sugar beet, cassava, and sweet potatoes, sweet sorghum presents several noteworthy benefits (Disasa et al., 2016). It is notably drought-tolerant and requires significantly less water than many other crops, such as one-third of the water needed for sugarcane and half of that required for corn. Furthermore, it exhibits tolerance to salinity, enabling its cultivation in marginal regions that are not traditionally suitable for crop production. Additionally, sweet sorghum boasts lower greenhouse gas emissions on a life-cycle basis, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly biofuel production process. The applications of sweet sorghum are diverse, with its stalks being used for various purposes. In Brazil and India, the stalk is chewed fresh or processed for the production of food-grade syrup and alcohol. Its high sucrose content makes it an excellent candidate for bioethanol production, with the potential to yield up to 8,000 liters per hectare, surpassing the ethanol yield of corn by approximately twofold and outperforming

Fourth-generation biofuels, also known as advanced liquid biofuels, represent a progression of biofuel production leveraging advanced technologies (Chiaramonti & Maniatis, 2020). They incorporate the concept of “carbon capture and storage (CCS)” at both the feedstock and processing levels. Utilizing non-competitive feedstocks like algal biomass, cellulosic materials, and genetically engineered microorganisms, 4G biofuels ensure renewable and sustainable production without relying on arable land or food crops. The feedstock is designed not only to enhance processing efficiency but also to capture more carbon dioxide as the crop grows. Thermochemical processing methods are coupled with CCS technologies, which direct the generated carbon dioxide into geological formations or storage areas such as depleted oil fields or mineral storage as carbonates (International Renewable Energy Agency [IRENA], 2021). Fourth-generation biofuels have the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and can even achieve carbon neutrality or negativity compared to previous generations of biofuels. This concept aligns with the idea of “Bioenergy with Carbon Storage (BECS)” (Demirbas, 2010). These advanced biofuels are currently in the development and experimental stages, encompassing various applications related to technology, processing, and feedstock. The primary feedstock for fourth-generation biofuels production consists of genetically engineered high-yielding biomass with low lignin and cellulose contents, addressing the challenges encountered in second-generation biofuels production. Alternatively, metabolically engineered crop plants with lower lignin, high oil contents facilitate enhanced carbon capture capabilities, and improved cultivation, harvesting, and fermentation processes and can significantly enhance biofuels production (Dutta et al., 2014).

Microalgae have long been recognized as good potential sources for biofuel production due to their relatively high oil content and rapid biomass production (Schenk et al., 2008; Hu et al., 2008). These photosynthetic organisms thrive in a variety of aquatic habitats, including lakes, rivers, oceans, and even sewage, demonstrating their adaptability to diverse environmental conditions. They can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, salinities, and pH levels, as well as varying light intensities and aquatic or desert conditions. Additionally, microalgae can grow independently or in symbiosis with other organisms, making them highly versatile for various cultivation systems (Mutanda et al., 2011). Algae are generally grouped into three major categories: Rhodophyta (red algae), Phaeophyta (brown algae), and Chlorophyta (green algae), and are further classified by size into macroalgae and microalgae. Macroalgae are large, multicellular organisms visible to the naked eye, while microalgae consist of microscopic single cells that can be either prokaryotic, similar to cyanobacteria, or eukaryotic, similar to green algae (Fields et al., 2014; Maltsev & Maltseva, 2021). Microalgae are capable of producing a wide array of valuable bioproducts, including polysaccharides, lipids, pigments, proteins, vitamins, bioactive compounds, and antioxidants. They grow at a much faster rate compared to terrestrial crops and can be cultivated on non-agricultural land using non-potable saltwater or wastewater, reducing competition with food crops and ensuring sustainability (Lee et al., 2014). This has made microalgae an increasingly attractive alternative feedstock for biodiesel production, which relies heavily on the high lipid content of microalgae. The majority of these lipids are stored in the form of triacylglycerols, a type of oil that is ideal for biodiesel production. Beyond biodiesel, microalgae can also be utilized in various other energy production pathways. Some microalgal strains can produce hydrogen gas under specific growth conditions, while algal biomass can be combusted like wood or digested anaerobically to produce methane biogas, which can be used for heat and power generation. Additionally, algal biomass can be processed into crude bio-oil through pyrolysis, further expanding its applications as a renewable energy source (Mumtaz et al., 2019).

14.2 Stretch Forming Operation
A sheet metal is simultaneously stretched and curved over a die during the stretch forming process to create big shaped parts. Stretch forming is done using a stretch press, where jaws are gripped firmly to fix a sheet metal along its edges. To stretch the sheet, the grasping jaws are individually coupled to a carriage that is drawn by a hydraulic or pneumatic force. A stretch form block, also known as a form die, is the tooling utilized in this procedure. It is a solid contoured piece that the sheet metal will be pressed against. The most common type of stretch press is vertically orientated with the form die situated on a press table , which will be elevated by a hydraulic ram into the sheet. Tensile stresses build and the sheet plastically deforms into a new shape when the form die is pressed into the firmly gripped sheet. The sheet is pulled horizontally around the form die by the gripping jaws of a horizontal stretch press, which mounts the form die sideways on a stationary press table

The “three pillars” or “three dimensions” of sustainability—economic, social, and environmental—are frequently used to frame the idea of sustainable development. The North East Indian state of Assam’s cultural and economical legacy has an intricate connection to the long and prosperous past of the Assam Silk Industry. From the very ancient times, the production of silk from silkworm and weaving into beautiful garments can be seen in this part of the region.Evidence indicates that the cultivation of silk and weaving were well established in the region by the first millennium BCE, incorporating thousands of years to the cultural heritage of silk weaving in Assam.The indigenous communities of Assam, particularly the Bodo-Kacharis, have been identified for spreading sericulture to the area. Assam produces three types of silk, namely Muga Silk which is also termed as Golden Muga, Pat Silk and Eri or Endi Silk. Also known as the “Golden Silk”, Muga Silk is unique only to Assam and hugely popular because of its natural sheen which increases with each wash. The silk is produced by a special silkworm Antheraea assamensiswhich is endemic to Assam. The town of Sualkuchi, in the Kamrup district of Assam, India, is home to the well-known traditional silk-weaving industry. Sualkuchi, dubbed the “Manchester of Assam,” is well-known for its superior silk goods, especially those crafted from Assamese-only Muga, Eri, and Pat silk(Ghosh, 2021; (Rajesh et al., 2020) The Assam Silk is considered as one of the finest in regional, national and international market because of its superior quality, bright colors and attractive designs. It has a good amount of potential to boost the economic development of Assam. Despite having such importance, it has been observed that the silk industry is facing a lot of problems which is causing a major setback in its growth. The Silk Industry of Assam is highly unorganized because there are less or no educated laborers which results in shortage of agricultural laborers ultimately leading to production shortage. The Assam silk industry, known for producing exquisite silk varieties like Muga, Eri, and Pat silk, faces several marketing challenges that hinder its growth and global competitiveness. Despite being geographically unique particularly Muga Silk, its brand identity is not widely recognized in outside the market. Its reach is restricted to premium and high-end fashion markets due to this lack of worldwide awareness. The majority of Assam’s silk output is limited to local and regional markets. The industry’s minimal web presence and inadequate marketing infrastructure make it difficult for it to penetrate larger domestic and international markets. Silk from Assam is not sufficiently promoted in international forums. There are government initiatives; however, there is a lack of consistency and broad audience reach in marketing activities. In marketplaces where there is competition, this causes the silk to be less visible.Producing Assam silk, particularly Muga silk, requires a lot of work and money. The final product’s high cost of manufacture restricts its customer base to a premium market niche. This lowers total sales and narrows the target market.

Performance metrics and indicators
Traditionally, in the past, TTOs’ performance was measured in monetary terms, such as universities’ revenues derived through commercialization. The methodology, however, is prone to shortcomings, in light of the fact that various TTOs do not receive significant amounts of financial proceeds through their technology transfers. In addition, relying on income does not depict a TTO’s true potential, in light of the fact that it does not account for the total range of outputs of research and commercialization opportunities. Recognizing these limitations, academics have found innovative ways to measure TTO efficiency, such as monetary and non-monetary indicators. Financial indicators typically entail measurable outcomes such as number of signed licenses, income from licenses, royalties collected, equity income, and number of spin-offs or startups created. These are actual gauges of the economic returns from commercialization efforts, and in the majority of instances are used in the context of benchmarking the performance of a TTO in a comparative context, perhaps against peer institutions or industry averages. Non-financial indicators consist of royalty distributions to academics, having an integral role in encouraging academics to participate in commercialisation activity. By incorporating monetary and non-financial metrics, universities might have an enhanced, comprehensive evaluation system for their TTOs. Such evaluation is sure to ensure assessment extends beyond short-run monetary metrics and looks to incorporate several organization, institutional, and research-oriented determinants in driving successful technology transfer.

Fossil fuel consumption is associated with a number of grave problems, including economic distress and increased greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. The world’s population and environment are deeply concerned about these issues, which are a result of rising greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of fossil fuels. Furthermore, there has been much discussion about the effects of relying so heavily on petroleum-derived fuels on the environment, the economy, and energy efficiency [1]. According, high process costs, inadequate infrastructure, and other technological challenges impede the manufacturing of second- and third-generation biofuels [2]. The main role of enzymes and other microorganisms during fermentation is as a catalyst to speed up the process of turning saccharides into alcohol. In this kind of biofuel production, lignocellulosic and algal material make up the majority of the biomass used to produce ethanol. The biochemical variety of microalgae is employed in numerous biotechnological and commercial applications [3]. The use of non-usable biomass has been enhanced with each new generation, which lowers production costs and speeds up the manufacture of biofuels. A wide variety of biofuels, such as biogas, bioethanol, biohydrogen, and biodiesel, can now be produced thanks to the application of nanotechnology. In order to convert triglycerides into biofuels, two important chemical events must occur: trans-esterification and esterification [4]. The majority of the nano-catalysts needed to produce biofuel come from microbial fuel cells. Nanoparticles, nanosheets, and nanotubes are examples of these nanocatalysts [5]. The utilization of nanotechnology in the biofuel production process holds promise for enhancing the effectiveness of current procedures. Compared to the production of biofuels, the synthesis of nanoparticles is much more interesting due to the potential applications, challenges, and opportunities that it presents [6]. Here, we review the literature on the application of nanotechnology to improve bioenergy production from algae processing. The different kinds of nanoparticles, including metallic, magnetic, metal oxide-based, and carbon nanotubes that are utilised in the production of bioethanol and biodiesel are covered on this page. A focus is placed on the application of these nanomaterials and how they affect the extraction and transesterification of lipids [7].
