For most of the elemental analysis procedures, the more traditional wet chemistryprocedures havebeenreplaced byvarious analytical instrumental procedures that employ either emission or absorption spectrophotometry. The elemental concentration in prepared soil extracts and water samples can be determined by a number of instrumentalanalyticalprocedures.

The trend today is toward greater analytical sophistication, to multielement computer controlled analytical instrumentation, resulting in a less ended understandingof the analytical principlesinvolved, and “black box” concepts of instrument calibration, maintenance, and operation. Preparation of the analyte and suitable adaptation for a method of analysis requires an understanding, by the analyst, of the principle of the method as well as its requirements and limitations. Adequate testing is usually required before putting the method to use, following procedures such as those that have been adapted by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC).

It is not possible to cover in adequatedetail every method of analysissuitedfor the elemental concentration determination in soil extracts and water samples. Therefore, the objective here is to provide sufficient background information about the instrumentalprinciples to guide the reader.

Animal nutrition involves providing balanced diets to farm animals to maintain their health, support growth, facilitate reproduction, and ensure high productivity. In the context of natural farming, this discipline emphasizes the useof local, naturally available feed resources, steering clear  of synthetic or commercial formulations. A sound understanding of basic nutrition and digestive physiology is crucial for creating sustainable and effective feeding strategies.
Farm animals need six fundamental nutrient groups: water, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Each plays a vital role—whether in producing energy, repairing tissues, maintaining immunity, or supporting reproductive and lactation processes. Nutritional needs are influenced by species, age, physiological status (such as growth, pregnancy, or milk production), and the animal’s activity level.
Animals vary in digestive anatomy, which affects how they process feed. Ruminants—including cattle, buffalo, sheep, and goats—have a four-part stomach (rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum) that enables them to digest fibrous plant matter efficiently through microbial fermentation. In the rumen, microbes break down cellulose and produce volatile fatty acids (VFAs), which serve as a primary energy source.
On the other hand, monogastric animals like pigs and poultry have a single-chambered stomach. They depend more heavily on readily digestible carbohydrates and proteins, making grains and high-protein plants ideal for their diets. Recognizing these physiological distinctions allows farmers to select feed resources appropriately—roughages and crop residues for ruminants, and concentrated energy and protein sources for monogastrics.
In natural farming systems, nutrition is supplied through a diverse mix of green fodder, leguminous leaves, tree foliage, crop by-products, and fermented inputs like Jeevamrit. These methods maintain animal health and productivity without resorting to synthetic additives, antibiotics, or hormones.

10.1 Introduction
Many of the industrial components/ products are produced by forging corresponding workpieces. Carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, aluminium, stainless steel, duplex steel, copper, and brass are among the materials that can be forged. Many factors will cause the forging process to vary. For example, the forging operation for titanium will differ from that for stainless steel. Steel is a material that can be formed into a wide variety of items when heated to high temperatures, around 1200–1300 degrees Celsius. The metal’s grains lengthen in the direction of flow during the industrial forging process. The metal’s hardness is significantly increased as a result. The flow lines in the completed component will lie where the component will experience the most stress due to well-designed forging. The forging is classified into cold forging and hot forging.

11.1 Introduction 
By passing a metal piece through a gap between two rollers that are revolving in opposite directions (clockwise or anticlockwise), metal can be shaped into a thin, long sheet by the process known as rolling. The working piece of the material to be created should have a thickness smaller than the gap between the two rollers. Rolling is used to convert more than 95% of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys into forms that are suitable for use. Rolling of metals gives the shapes, viz. plate, sheet, strip, foil, and various sections such as rail, beam, channel, angle, bar, rod, and seamless pipe. By allowing the material to travel through the space between two revolving cylindrical rolls, considerable compressive stress is applied to the material throughout the rolling process, which results in permanent deformation. The rolls are kept at a constant distance from one another. They can have grooves or flat. Using an electrical drive system (motor, gearbox, spindle, and couplings), the rolls are rotated in the opposite direction. The input material enters the gap between the rolls from one end and exits the other end with a decreased cross-section. The roll gap area remains less than the cross-sectional area of the input material (rolling stock), depending on the direction of rotation of the rolls. In most cases, the material must be passed through the revolving rolls multiple times to produce the final shape that is desired. The two rolls are brought closer to one another on each pass, or the material is allowed to travel through various sets of roll gaps with decreasing cross-sectional area. The assembly of rolls mounted on bearings is held in bearing blocks, also known as chocks, which are held between the spaces between two cast frames, also known as housings. The complete setup is called rolling mill stand. A rolling mill, also known as a rolling plant, is made up of one or more rolling stands along with other relevant and essential machinery for producing final rolled goods from a single or comparable class of raw materials.

Complete feed system is a system of ruminants feeding in which roughage and concentrate mixture are mixed homogenously in a predetermined ratio and processed in to pellet, briquette or block form to provide the animals a nutritionally balanced diet. Complete feed system is advantageous over conventional feed system as it reduces the cost of labour, transportation and storage of feed, besides ensuring uniform supply of nutrients and maintaining the optimum rumen environment due to the constant dietary roughage: concentrate ratio, which also avoids the selective feeding.

Cropping system is the cropping patterns used on a farm and their interaction with farm resources, other farm enterprises, available technology and environment (Physical, biological and socioeconomic) which determine their makeup (Krantz et al., 1975). Cropping system is subsystem of the farming system.

The cropping system aims at increasing the benefits derived by crop production from available physical resources (land, climate, water resources etc.) that are not readily changed through optimization of input levels for a given crop or cropping pattern. The objective of any cropping system is to increase the efficiency of utilization of resources. The efficiency in measured by the quantity of product obtained per unit resource in a unit time in cropping system.

Cryopreservation

Cryo is a Greek word (krayos-frost). It literally means preservation in frozen state. Cryopreservation is the non lethal storage of biological material at ultra-low temperatures. At the temperature of liquid nitrogen (-196?C) almost all metabolic activities of cells are ceased and the sample can then be preserved in such state for extended periods. This is to bring plant cells or tissues to a zero metabolism and non-dividing state by reducing the temperature in the presence of cryoprotectant. However only few biological materials can be frozen without affecting the cell viability.

It can be done by using,

• Over solid carbon dioxide (at -79 degree)

• Low temperature deep freezer(-80 degree)

• In vapour phase nitrogen(at -150 degree)

• In liquid nitrogen(at -196 degree)

Among these, liquid nitrogen is most widely used material for cryopreservation because it is chemically inert, relatively low cost, Nontoxic, Non-flammable and Readily available.

Diagnosis is the art of recognizing diseases or deficiency symptoms manifested from their symptoms, a scientific determination of a disorder based on critical scrutiny.

2.1 Diagnosis and prognosis

Diagnosis is the estimation of nutritional status of a plant during sampling, while prognosis is the prediction of possibility of deficiency impairing plant growth at stages in the growth cycle after the sample is taken. Diagnosis is based on comparison of nutrient concentration in plant parts (mainly leaves) with standard values related to physiological requirements of the plants. In diagnosis, mainly plant analysis is used. Prognosis is also based on critical concentration of same plant parts. This sometimes has led to confusion between these two concepts, which have been used with the same meaning. In contrast, to diagnosis, prognosis may be based on their leaf or soil analysis. The main difference between prognosis and diagnosis lies in the time between sampling and appearance of the influence on plant growth.

a) Material objective

According to National Commission on Agriculture (1976). Agriculture extension aims at improving the efficiency of human capital, an effort to rapidly increase the rate of agricultural production. It also seeks to import necessary skill to farmer to understand the improved agricultural operation and improve the their own income, own resource and also the money value.

b) Educational objective

Extension education also aims at development of individual to change in behaviour by identifying their knowledge, skill, attitude and action. It aims at increasing the knowledge of people to analyse their past, present and expected future situation, to become aware of problem identification, solution and also realising their felt and unfelt need.

The plant material has to be handled carefully, handling only the stems. Properly dried, bleached and dyed flowers, foliage and accessories can be arranged following the principles for dry flower arrangement.

Food irradiation involves exposure of food to short wave energy to achieve specific purposes like extension in shelf life, insect disinfestations and elimination of food-borne pathogens and parasites. Compared to heat or chemical treatment, irradiation is more effective and an appropriate technology to destroy food-borne pathogens without much loss to the quality of food. It offers a number of advantages to producers, processors, retailers and consumers. Irradiation is a cold process and can be used to pasteurize and sterilize foods without affecting freshness and texture of food. Unlike chemical fumigants, irradiation does not leave any harmful toxic residues in food and is more effective. It is efficient and can be used to treat prepacked commodities. The FAO estimates that about 25% of world’s total food production is lost due to insects, bacteria and rodents after harvesting. Use of radiation can play an important role in cutting these losses and reducing dependence on chemical pesticides. The food borne diseases claim millions of lives all over the world every year. Irradiation of food can reduce these incidences by destroying harmful microorganisms.

Garden designing has also got certain principles like other subjects. It is a visual equilibrium of different garden elements.

Formal Garden : Balance is achieved by positioning plants, other landscape objects at equal distance from a real (or) imaginary plane (or) axis.

Informal Garden : Balancing is mainly a neutralizing effect. (eg.) Opposite colours in the colour wheel, contrasting texture, different numbers, shapes, forms, line and pattern are cleverly employed to neutralize one another.

Proportion

It refers to the share of the different parts (or) components to the whole. It refers to all ingredients being mixed in right measure, not essentially in equal measure.

The planning of a garden is an art. It is said that a poet is born, and in that sense a garden architect is also born. But that does not mean that a garden architect has nothing to learn. On the contrary he should learn enough of geology, geography, garden history, styles of gardening, and above all should have a profound knowledge about plants. It is imperative to know at the outset what is meant by landscape gardening. A landscape may be defined as any area, either big or small, on which it is possible or desirable to mould view or a design, whereas landscape gardening may be described as the application of garden forms, methods, and materials with a view to improving the landscape. The art of designing is known as “landscape architecture,” although the older term landscape gardening” is also popular.

Before discussing the principles of gardening in detail, it will be worthwhile to make some useful suggestions. The first and the foremost thing are not to imitate another garden which has secured a prize in a competition. One has to develop one’s own design giving due consideration to the local conditions. One more mistake which is commonly made is to plant many more specimens than a garden can accommodate causing overcrowding. In a landscape garden any difference in levels has to be taken advantage of, but in a perfectly flat land it will be costly to create artificial undulations. In each garden the care should be at least one feature or there be a second these two should harmonize with each other. Growth of horticulture is the cornerstone for augmenting employment opportunities in agriculture sector both directly and indirectly. Of late, there is a marked shift in the cropping pattern towards diversification into high value commercial crops in the country. To make horticulture viable and profitable, the thrust should be on improving the resource use efficiency, so that the relative profitability could be enhanced. Success in horticulture is more technology driven compared to other crops. The time bound removal of quantitative curbs on imports and other barriers to access domestic market under WTO, of which India is a signatory, will require Indian Horticultural produce / products to become competitive both in the domestic and international markets. This would call for use of Hi-tech horticulture technologies. The term Hi-Tech Horticulture was coined in recent years. There are no standard definitions for this. The Department of Agriculture and Co-operation,GOI in 1999 defined Hi-tech Horticulture as “any technology which is modern, less environment dependent, capital intensive and has the capacity to improve the productivity and quality of horticultural crops”.

Abstract

Indian Horticultural produce to become competitive both in domestic and international markets, there is an urgent need for use of Hi-tech horticultural technologies. The techniques covered under Hi-tech Horticulture are genetically modified horticulture crop varieties derived from biotechnology and genetic engineering, micro-propagation, protected cultivation, micro irrigation and fertigation, high density planting, organic farming, integrated nutrient, pest and disease management and post harvest management.

Micropropagation or tissue culture technology is based on the principle of totipotency. It provides disease free, uniform sized and year round production of mass multiplication of plants in various stages viz. establishment and stablillization, shoot multiplication, pre-transplant and in vitro rooting and transplanting acclimation and ex vitro rooting. Protected cultivation is the technique of providing to the crop to protect plants from the adverse climate conditions by providing optimum growth and development conditions. High value horticulture crops mainly cut flowers and vegetables are more popular for cultivation in green houses. Greenhouse may be of different types depending on the structural designs followed as quonset, curved roof or gable roof and covering materials used as glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, fiberglass reinforced plastic panels or polyethylene etc. applicators. Micro-irrigation system is used for frequent application of required and measured quantity of water directly above or below soil surface, usually as discrete

drops, continuous drops, tiny streams or miniature spray through emitters or applicators placed along a water delivery line (laterals). It may be in form of drip irrigation, bubbler irrigation, micro jet irrigation, sprinkler, micro-sprinkler or misting (fogger) irrigation system. Similarly under fertigation system, special fertilizers in form of liquid or water soluble solids are available through a suitable irrigation system for accuracy of water application.

HCG is secreted by the placenta after the fertilized egg implants in the uterus and can be detected in both urine and blood. Urine pregnancy tests are convenient for home use, but a doctor may also opt to test blood as it provides a quantitative hCG number. Both methods are highly accurate and common. Pregnancy tests, however, were not always so accurate or so culturally accepted.
 
The diagnosis of pregnancy requires a multifaceted approach using three main diagnostic tools. These are (a) history and physical examination, (b)laboratory evaluation, and (c) ultrasonography. Currently, physicians may use all of these tools to diagnose pregnancy at early gestation and to help rule out other pathologies.

Intercropping is growing two or more crops simultaneously on the same piece of land with a definite row pattern. The crops may or may not be sown or harvested at one time.

Advantages of intercropping

Intercropping provides yield advantages as compared to sole cropping. These are not by means of costly input but by the simple expedient of growing crops together.

1.It provides greater surety and stability of higher yield over different seasons.

2.It economizes the space and time of cultivating two or more component crops of comparable agronomic practices grown separately.

3.It helps to restore soil fertility when legumes are included as component crop.

4.It utilizes a greater total volume of both below and above ground environment.

5.It helps to avoid intra-crop competition and thus a higher number of crop plants can be grown per unit area.

6.It helps in better use of growth resources.

7.It also helps in better control of weeds pests and diseases.

8.It also controls erosion through providing continuous leaf cover over the ground surface.

9.It is the small farmers of limited means who is most likely to benefit.

Landscaping is an art of beautifying a piece of land or a landscape with planting material, non-living material in order to create a picturesque effect or to imitate nature. Landscaping makes a place more peaceful, beautiful, appealing or pleasing, where people can rest and enjoy with their family, friends, etc.

Landscape gardening is landscaping of a garden. More or less landscape gardening and painting on a canvas or paper sheet is similar. In both cases colours are used to form a picture, only difference is that painting is non-living 2D image and garden is collection of living plants with non living things in 3D form.

When going for landscaping, one can put anything or collection of different articles of interest in a place. It requires proper planning and for planning landscape, there are principles or facts that should be followed. It is not necessary and also possible to follow all the principles at a time in a landscape plan but there are 8 basic principles one should follow during landscape planning, which are discussed below.

6.1 Introduction

Garden design encompasses the aesthetic beauty, artistry, knowledge of plant growth and development with basic maintenance of plants and other elements as required. Principles are the basic rules of designing a landscape. The basic principles of garden design are very simple; however, each is often referred to by more than one name. Principles of landscape garden keeps the garden lively and beautiful. The principles of gardening should be kept in mind always while designing a garden.

6.2 Axis

It is an imaginary line in landscape designs around which the garden is created striking a balance. In a formal garden the central line is the axis.

Homeopathic Philosophy or Principles

Management of diseases of humans or animals using homeopathy is based on eight basic principles or philosophies.

1. Similia Similibus Curentur- The basic philosophy of homeopathy is based on the ‘Similia Similibus Curentur’ (Latin) or Law of similars (like cures like) , natural law of healing. Which states that a disease can be cured by a drug or substance which is capable of producing similar symptoms in healthy subject when given in minute doses. The treatment in homeopathy is based on the similarity of symptoms of the patient to those of a drug described in Homoeopathic Materia Medica. Drug selection is based not only on the similarity of the presenting symptom, but also on modalities, constitution and temperament of the patient and exciting and fundamental causes.

1. No Tillage (No Ploughing or Turning of the Soil)
• The principle of No Tillage in natural farming refers to the practice of avoiding the mechanical disturbance of the soil, such as ploughing, turning, or tilling. This approach is central to natural farming because it allows the soil to maintain its natural structure, preserves its biodiversity, and enhances its ability to support plant growth sustainably.
• Tillage disrupts the natural layers of the soil. When the soil is left undisturbed, its structure remains intact, allowing for better water infiltration, root penetration, and nutrient availability. A well-structured soil is more resilient to erosion and compaction.
• Soil is home to a vast network of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and earthworms, that play crucial roles in nutrient cycling and plant health. Tilling can destroy these delicate ecosystems, reducing the soil’s fertility. No tillage preserves these beneficial organisms, promoting natural soil regeneration.
• In natural farming, organic matter (like dead plants, mulch, and crop residues) is left on the surface of the soil. As it decomposes, it contributes to the formation of humus, a rich organic material that improves soil fertility and helps retain moisture. Tillage disrupts this process, speeding up the decomposition of organic matter and reducing its long-termbenefits.
• No tillage improves the soil’s ability to absorb and retain water, which reduces the need for irrigation and helps crops withstand drought conditions. Additionally, undisturbed soil is more resistant to erosion because plant roots and soil structure act as a barrier against wind and water erosion.

Farming is the intervention of man in the growth cycle of plants, animals or birds to get utility products of choice at maximum levels and of highest quality. The growing and caring of plants is called Crop Husbandry, and that of animals is called Animal Husbandry. Farming is our most basic activity. It is considered as the backbone of Indian economy. Farming not only nourishes the whole population, but also provides a means of livelihood to more than 60 per cent of our population. Our history, culture and community values are embedded in farming. Today when we think of farming, what comes to our mind are long stretches of farm land, farmer tilling the field, pumping water into fields, applying fertilizers or pesticides, plants with so many fruits, tractors with loads of farm produce, cross bred cows, a farm chicken, aquaculture, fish and so on. A more advanced image on this subject will be of the small plantlets in conical flasks or test tubes, what we call Tissue culture, High Yielding Varieties (HYV), Genetically Modified (GM) crops, Green House farming and other techniques that increase the crop yields. So all these activities are considered as the products of science that our scientists were able to develop over a period of time and helped the growing population to meet their food requirements.

1.1. Plant breeding

An art and science, deals with ways and means to change the genetic architecture of plants so as to attain a particular objective.

For ensuring food security, it is important to breed and develop new varieties that are high-yielding, pests diseases and drought resistant or regionally adapted to different environments and growing conditions.

The techniques used in disease management mainly based on two principles: Prevention or prophylaxis and cure. The first principle prevention includes disease management tactics applied before infection i.e., the plant is protected from disease. It includes: avoidance, exclusion, eradication, resistant & protection. Second principle curative action: functions with any measure applied after the plant is infected i.e., the plant is treated for the disease. It includes therapy.

Many plant diseases cause less dramatic losses annually throughout the world but collectively constitute sizable losses to farmers and can reduce the aesthetic values of landscape plants and home gardens.

‘Plant disease management’ involves the integration of various measures adopted to protect the plants by preventing them from contact with the pathogenic organisms, preventing the growth of the pathogens causing diseases, preventing sporulation of the pathogens and spread of diseases, destroying insect vectors responsible for transmitting diseases and such other prophylactic and curative measures. The ultimate aim of these measures is to avoid large-scale occurrence of diseases, reduce the severity of diseases and minimizing the losses caused by diseases. In disease management, importance should be given to control all the diseases attacking a particular crop at a particular time, especially those which occur in severe form in all the seasons and cause extensive damage to the crop and yield loss. Each and every crop is subjected to attack by one or more than one diseases. At the same time the control measures for controlling each of the disease may differ. In this respect a knowledge of the pathogen causing the disease, the symptoms of the disease, mode of infection and spread of the disease, the growth stage at which the crop is attacked, interaction between the host (crop) and the pathogen and weather conditions favorable for the occurrence and spread of the disease is absolutely necessary, so as to adopt suitable control measures to combat the disease and to minimize the damage to the crop, and reduce the yield loss.

The occurrence and spread of diseases are very much influenced by the environment, host and the pathogen. When the environmental conditions are suitable for the pathogen and not quite suitable for the host, the incidence of the disease is liable to be more. Further, if the host plants are not maintained properly and are weak, then they are more vulnerable to attack by the pathogen and the disease incidence may be severe. When the inoculum of the pathogen is present abundantly, the chances of attack by the pathogen are also more. Taking these facts into consideration, plant disease management is depicted as ‘manipulation of the disease triangle’ (Fig. 60)

All control measures should be aimed at protecting the plants from becoming diseased and not at curing the plants after they have become diseased. The principal methods adopted for controlling plant diseases are broadly categorized under five different heads viz. :

Disease Control vs. Disease Management

The word control evokes the notion of finality, the final elimination of problems .

It is impossible to exclude , eliminate or prevent diseases.

Control is ecologically and practically not possible.

Although disease control is an established and widely understood concept, there are compelling reasons to replace control with management .

Basic Concepts of Plant Disease Management
Plant disease management is built upon understanding the Disease Triangle, which consists of three components:
Host: A susceptible plant that can be affected by the pathogen.
Pathogen: A disease-causing agent like fungi, bacteria, or viruses.
Environment: The surrounding conditions, such as temperature, moisture, and wind, that influence disease development.
For a disease to develop, all three components must interact favourably. By manipulating any of these elements, disease outbreaks can be minimized

Avoidance strategies focus on preventing disease occurrence by altering the environment or planting practices.
a) Site Selection: Select fields with no previous history of specific pathogens. For instance, avoid planting potatoes in fields previously infected with Phytophthora infestans, as the pathogen can survive in the soil and debris.

Horticultural crops are ideal and valuable assets of nature to mankind. They are popular among masses since time immemorial but their importance was realized only in the recent past due to their high nutritive value, good taste and pleasing quality. They provide essential nutrients and minerals for proper functioning of human body and aesthetic surroundings for peaceful living. India is an important centre of diversity and several horticultural crops  originated here.  The horticultural crops constitute 13.08% of total crop area and contribute about 28% to GDP. The sub-continent extends from 8° 04’ - 37° 06’ North latitude and 68° 07’- 97° 25’ East longitude and it has tropical, sub-tropical and temperate climates which favour successful growing of a large number of horticultural crops.  India has a wide variety of climate and soil on which a large number of horticultural crops like fruits, vegetables, potato and other tropical tuber crops, ornamentals, medicinal and aromatic plants, plantation crops, spices, cashew and cocoa are grown. Of late, major emphasis was laid on development of high yielding varieties and high production technologies and their adoption in areas of assured irrigation paved the way towards food security.

India produces 9.2% of world’s vegetables and fruits, nearly 109 million tons of vegetables and 57.69 million tons of fruits. The production of horticultural commodities is expected to grow to 300 million tons in near future (Kaur, 2008). India accounts for 18.2% of global trade in vegetables and 0.5% in fruits. The overall food wastages are very high amounting to around Rs. 10.4 lakh million. India wastes more fruits and vegetables than what U.K consumes. It is estimated that cumulative wastage of fruits and vegetables, on the farm, during procurement, storage and at the retail outlets, is worth about Rs.422250 million. 

The fruits and vegetables are highly perishable in nature. The losses in harvested fruits and vegetables start immediately after harvesting and the resulting spoilage caused by biochemical changes (enzymatic) and activity of microorganisms such as bacteria, moulds and yeast. The losses caused by the microorganism in fruits and vegetables products can be prevented by controlling or destroying these organisms in order to preserve fruits and vegetables by processing and preservation means. The processing and preservation is one of the most important activities among various types of activities of Horticultural Science.

Processing: The processing can be defined as an activity, which is performed to maintain or improve the quality or to change the form or characteristics of the product. Processing operations are undertaken to add value to horticultural produce after their production. The main purpose of processing is to minimize the qualitative and quantitative deterioration of produce after harvest.

Preservation: Preservation can be defined as the science which deals with the methods of prevention of decay or spoilage of produce and allow it to be stored in a fit condition for future use.

Fruits and vegetables can be preserved for short and long term. For short term preservation can be achieved by proper handling of produce and low temperature storage. Long term preservation can be achieved by canning, drying and dehydration, fermentation and by using chemical preservatives.

Radiation therapy is the delivery of ionizing radiation to a specific body areas with the goal of obtaining maximum lesion control with minimal complication. Radiation therapy is based on the fact that ionizing radiation is lethal to the cells, particularly rapidly dividing ones. Normal cells in the irradiated area may be as sensitive to ionizing radiation as tumor cells. Therefore, the normal tissue response limits the amount of ionizing radiation that can be tolerated by the patient. Effective use of radiation therapy requires an understanding of the physics of the radiation used and normal cellular and tumor biology as it relates to radiation therapy as well as an appreciation of the clinical application of veterinary radiation therapy.

Radiographic positioning refers to placement of the body in respect to linear alignment of X-ray tube and film. Correct positioning is a most important prerequisite to obtain a diagnostic radiograph. Misinterpretations can result from inaccurate positioning.  Label the film before exposure with anatomical lead markers/ X-rite tape. The anatomical markers should be placed in close proximity to the area of interest without overlying important structures. At least two exposures of the part at 900 to each other should be taken to get complete anatomical information of the part.

Concept: Seed blending is the process of merging two or more types of the same species, for as Kentucky bluegrass cultivars Merion, Baron, and Park. Contrarily, seed mixing refers to the blending of two or more species, however every species may have more than one variation represented, such as Jamestown and Cascade chewing fescue combined with Merion and Fylking Kentucky bluegrass. Seed is typically distributed in blends, primarily Kentucky bluegrass blends, for sod growing purposes. For home lawns, parks, and other utility areas where upkeep levels would not be adequate to maintain pure Kentucky bluegrass turf, mixes of different grasses are typically employed. Naturally, when it comes to pure seed quality, no blend of grass seeds is superior to the individual ingredients. Every time a new blend needs to be made; extreme caution must be taken to ensure that the mixing equipment can be completely cleaned to prevent any contamination from unwanted species—bent grasses are perhaps the most challenging to deal with.
