The effective application of agricultural meteorology in supporting agricultural decision-making and productivity relies heavily on the skills and knowledge of the individuals involved. As the agricultural sector continues to face growing challenges from climate variability, weather extremes, and changing environmental conditions, the need for well-trained and informed professionals has never been more pressing. Skill Advancement and Knowledge Empowerment (SAKE) is crucial for ensuring that stakeholders, including farmers, agricultural advisors, policymakers, and meteorological service providers, have the necessary expertise to harness the benefits of agricultural meteorology (Fig. 13.1). This chapter focuses on the education, training, and capacity-building initiatives required to enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals working in operational agricultural meteorology. It explores the various levels of education and training needed, from basic awareness and understanding of meteorological concepts to advanced technical skills and specialized knowledge in areas such as agrometeorological modeling, data analysis, and decision-support systems. The chapter begins by discussing the importance of SAKE in the context of agricultural meteorology, highlighting the key challenges and opportunities in this field. It then examines the different types of education and training programs that can be implemented to address these challenges, including formal education, vocational training, workshops, and online courses. The role of knowledge empowerment through access to relevant information, tools, and technologies is

Climate-resilient agriculture involves the use of practices, technologies, and approaches that can help to reduce the risks associated with climate change, while also promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities. This can include a range of strategies, such as the use of climate-tolerant crop and animal varieties, agroforestry practices, conservation agriculture, and integrated water management. Climate-resilient agriculture can also involve the use of innovative technologies, such as precision agriculture, drones, and satellite imaging, to support decision-making and improve the efficiency of agricultural systems. This chapter outlines the principles and priorities for climate-resilient agriculture, with a focus on the key strategies and approaches that can help to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce the vulnerability of agricultural systems to climate change. The chapter draws on examples and case studies from around the world, highlighting the importance of adopting a holistic and integrated approach to climate-resilient agriculture that takes into account the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainable agriculture. By outlining the principles and priorities for climate-resilient agriculture (Fig. 5.1), this chapter aims to provide a framework for policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce the vulnerability of agricultural systems to climate change

2.1 Time and Energy Requirements of Work
The time and energy requirements of work can vary significantly depending on several factors related to the nature of the work, the worker’s capabilities and motivation, and the workplace environment. Let’s explore each aspect:
1. Nature of the Work
Complexity: work that requires high levels of skill, expertise, and problemsolving will generally demand more time and energy.
Physical demands: jobs that involve manual labor or physically strenuous activities can be more energy-intensive.
Cognitive demands: intellectual or creative work can be mentally taxing, requiring concentration and focus for extended periods.
2. Worker Factors
Physical health: a worker’s overall health and fitness level can impact how much time and energy they can dedicate to their job.
Skill set and experience: experienced workers might complete tasks more efficiently, reducing time requirements.
Motivation: highly motivated individuals tend to invest more energy and time into their work.
Work-life balance: if a worker is dealing with excessive stress or personal issues, it can affect their ability to concentration and perform optimally.
3. Workplace Factors
Work environment: a comfortable, well-designed workspace can contribute to increased productivity and reduced fatigue.

Building upon the foundation laid in earlier chapters, perhaps exploring local weather dynamics and regional climate patterns, the present chapter “Global Weather Parameters and Teleconnections,” takes a significant step back to examine the Earth’s weather systems on a truly planetary scale. Here, we shift our focus to the fundamental forces and patterns that orchestrate the global climate ballet. We will delve into the key global weather parameters – think of these as the vital signs of our planet’s atmosphere – such as the overall distribution of temperature across latitudes and altitudes, the major global pressure belts that drive air movement, and the resulting large-scale wind systems that circulate heat and moisture around the globe. These parameters, born from the interplay of solar radiation, the Earth’s spherical shape, and its continuous rotation, are the primary drivers of our planet’s diverse climates. Beyond these fundamental parameters, this chapter will illuminate the fascinating world of teleconnections. Imagine the atmosphere and oceans as an intricate network, where events in one distant region can have a ripple effect on weather patterns thousands of kilometers away. Teleconnections represent these long-range linkages, acting as the “threads” that connect seemingly disparate weather phenomena. We will explore prominent examples like the El Niño- Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which has profound impacts on rainfall and temperature across the Pacific and well beyond, including potential influences on the Indian monsoon – a topic likely of particular interest given your previous research. Similarly, we will examine phenomena such as the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), influencing weather across Europe and North America, and the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), a traveling wave of thunderstorms in the tropics that can affect global circulation. For those interested in agricultural meteorology, the understanding of global weather parameters and teleconnections is paramount. These largescale patterns and their interconnections play a critical role in shaping regional climate variability, influencing the onset and intensity of droughts and floods – events you’ve extensively researched – and impacting crop yields and water availability. By grasping these global drivers, we can enhance our ability to forecast seasonal weather patterns, anticipate potential climate-related risks to agriculture, and develop more informed strategies for long-term agricultural planning and adaptation in a changing world. Building upon this understanding, This chapter delves into one of the most vital applications of system simulation in agriculture: crop models. These sophisticated computational tools stand as the cornerstone for quantitatively representing the intricate interplay between the soil, the plant, and the atmosphere, providing a dynamic lens through which to examine agricultural productivity and resource use efficiency. Crop models are essentially mathematical descriptions that mimic the growth, development, and yield of agricultural crops under various environmental conditions and management practices. They encapsulate our scientific understanding of how plants absorb light, water, and nutrients, how they convert these resources into biomass, and how they respond to stresses like drought, heat, or nutrient deficiency. Far from being mere statistical regressions, these are often process-based models, meaning they attempt to simulate the underlying biological, physical, and chemical mechanisms that govern crop performance. By integrating knowledge from disciplines such as plant physiology, soil science, meteorology, and agronomy, crop models provide a holistic and dynamic representation of the entire agricultural system. The evolution of crop modeling has mirrored advancements in computational power and scientific understanding. From early empirical models that relied heavily on statistical relationships between yield and a few environmental factors, the field has progressed to complex mechanistic models that simulate detailed physiological processes on a daily or even hourly basis. This evolution has transformed crop models from purely research-oriented tools into powerful instruments for real-world decision-making. Introduction
Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum Linn.) is a remarkable tall, perennial grass characterized by its thick, jointed stalks and long linear leaves. This remarkable plant, known for its ability to efficiently photosynthesize in warm climates, is a C4 plant. The propagation of sugarcane primarily occurs through stem cuttings, as it seldom produces flowers and seeds. It finds roots in regions with tropical and subtropical climates featuring warm temperatures, abundant sunshine, and well-drained fertile soil (Shukla et al., 2017). Cultivated for its sweet juice, rich in sucrose, sugarcane serves as the primary raw material for the production of sugar, ethanol, and various other valuable products. Its lifecycle comprises several growth stages, including germination, tillering, grand growth, and maturation, culminating in the harvesting of its valuable juice. Continuous advancements in botany and genetics have contributed to the improvement of sugarcane cultivation, enhancing yield and resistance to pests and diseases. The origins and domestication of sugarcane can be traced back to Southeast Asia, particularly in regions encompassing Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and their vicinity. The domestication of sugarcane is believed to have commenced thousands of years ago when early human populations in these regions recognized the sweetness of the cane and began cultivating it for its edible properties. Over time, through selective breeding and propagation of plants with desirable traits, these early cultivators played a pivotal role in shaping the sugarcane we know today. This indigenous Southeast Asian plant spread to other parts of the world through trade and exploration. Historical records indicate that sugarcane found its way to India around 500 BC and reached China in the 6th century AD. Subsequently, it traversed the Middle East, the Mediterranean region, and eventually reached the Americas during the early voyages of exploration and colonization (Grivet et al., 2004). Christopher Columbus played a significant role in introducing sugarcane to the Caribbean islands during his second voyage in 1493, and from there, it made its way to other parts of the New World, including Brazil and various South American countries. The cultivation of sugarcane emerged as an essential industry in these regions, profoundly influencing their economic and social landscapes. The domestication and widespread cultivation of sugarcane have left an indelible mark on the global economy, trade, and human history. Today, sugarcane remains one of the most significant crops globally, with major producing countries, including Brazil, India, China, Thailand, and others. It stands not only as a pivotal

5.1 Introduction
A common method for combining metals in a wide range of applications is welding. Welding takes place in a variety of places, including factories and workshops, as well as outside on rural farms and construction sites. Basic welding techniques can be easily learnt, and the processes involved are quite straightforward to understand. The molecular joining of metals is called welding. When two or more pieces of metal are joined together uniformly such that the joint’s strength is greater than the combined strength of the individual components is known as a weld.
5.1.1 Key Terminologies of Welding
Four materials and other two elements are needed for welding, which are as listed below.
i. Metals

iii. Filler/ flux material

To create a single piece of metal, the metals are heated to their melting point while being kept out of the air. A filler metal is then added to the heated area. It can be done under pressure or without pressure. In some cases, filler material need not be used. Air is used as a shield to cover the welding zone from oxidation.

Metals are the workpieces, which are to be joined. These metals may be similar or dissimilar. There are many situations wherein two or more workpieces are to be joined. Consider internal combustion engine in which valve timing gears are fixed over cam shaft. The fixing of the cam over the cam shaft is carried out by welding. Renewable and more eco-friendly sources of fuel must be a major concern of our nation for the betterment of our environment because a growing population requires more energy. Fossil fuels have played a significant role in driving the advancement of society, economy, and development. Fossil fuels are the most used sources for the fulfilment of energy requirements. The predominant source of energy on a global scale is fossil fuels, which account for 88% of total energy production (Li et al., 2019). These sources are finite and depleting sources and have a significant negative impact on the environment through the emission of greenhouse gases, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and particulate matter (Ritchie et al., 2023). These gases cause global warming by trapping heat, which causes climate change and its side effects, such as increased temperatures globally, more frequent and intense heat waves, and altered weather patterns (Solarin, 2020). In 2017, there was a 1.6% increase in CO2 emissions related to the combustion of fossil fuels, and this trend is anticipated to continue (Khoo et al., 2020). Fossil fuels, on the other hand, are non-renewable sources of energy that will deplete rapidly within fifty years (Chew et al., 2018). In an age marked by increasing environmental concerns and a growing urgency to combat climate change, the pursuit of sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources has never been more critical. Among the renewable energy options, biofuels have emerged as a prominent contender, holding the promise of reduced carbon emissions and a path toward a greener, more sustainable future (Takeuchi et al., 2002). Biofuels, derived from organic materials like trees algae, and waste, have attracted a lot of attention because they have the potential to lessen our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce the negative effects of climate change. Figure 5.1 shows the classification of biological feedstocks utilized in biofuels comprising four distinct generations: first, second, third, and fourth (Alalwan et al., 2019). Edible biomasses like sugar beet, corn, wheat, rice corn, etc come under the category of first generation. Since these feedstocks are in competition with food harvests for a specific quantity of land, fertilisers, and water, the viability of first-generation biofuels is subject to discussion (Paschalidou et al., 2016). Subsequently, the resources and energy utilised in the cultivation of feedstocks are inefficiently utilised, resulting in costly production. Furthermore, there exists a discourse surrounding the potential contribution of biofuel to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). This is because certain biofuel varieties may generate negative net energy gains, thereby increasing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the production process. However, the most contentious topic continues to be the "food versus fuel" dilemma.

Incentives are a powerful stimulus to transfer of technology. They can encourage researchers to get their results to market, a new career path for many of them. They can create a culture that attracts and retains entrepreneurial staff, scientists, students and technology transfer professionals (TTPs) that view the university as a career path and a vehicle for making a contribution to society. Working in a pro-entrepreneurship team of colleagues can also lead to getting people to think in terms of making a connection between their work and its application. Incentives can be short-term or long-term in nature, and can be tailored to individual or collective requirements. As it is likely to be challenging for universities to design incentives that cater to every researcher’s or TTP’s desire, they can design incentive programs to cater to various aspects of human. Nature.
12.1 Why incentives matter in this ecosystem
Incentives can be either financial and non-financial. These are needed to ensure that researchers and TTPs remain motivated, aligned with institutional goals, and committed to the long-term process of technology transfer and commercialization. Incentive programs serve several important purposes:
• Motivation: Incentives energize individuals to pursue innovation and commercialization, often over long- and uncertain-time horizons.
• Retention: By offering recognition, rewards, and career advancement opportunities, institutions can retain high-performing researchers and skilled TTPs.
• Alignment: Well-designed incentives ensure that the personal goals of stakeholders align with institutional and societal objectives.

1. Introduction 
The intersection of nanotechnology and microalgal biodiesel production presents a compelling avenue for addressing the pressing challenges of sustainability, energy security, and environmental conservation (Cai et al., 2021a). Microalgae, microscopic photosynthetic organisms, have emerged as a promising source for biodiesel due to their high lipid content, rapid growth rates, and potential for cultivation in diverse environments as compare to other sources as given in Fig. 1. However, the commercialization of microalgal biodiesel has been hampered by various limitations, including low lipid productivity, inefficient harvesting techniques, and high production costs. Nanotechnology, with its ability to manipulate materials at the nanoscale, offers innovative solutions to enhance various stages of microalgal biodiesel production. From cultivation to processing, nanomaterials and nanodevices hold the potential to optimize efficiency, increase yields, and reduce environmental impacts. By improving light penetration, nutrient delivery, and CO2 utilization, nanotechnology-enabled systems enhance microalgal growth and lipid accumulation (Li et al., 2019; Cai et al., 2021b). Moreover, nanoscale structures facilitate the development of efficient harvesting methods, minimizing energy consumption and water usage. In biodiesel processing, nanocatalysts exhibit superior catalytic activity, enabling faster reaction times and higher yields in transesterification processes. Nanostructured membranes enhance the purification and separation of biodiesel, ensuring high-quality end products with minimal impurities. Despite these advancements, challenges such as scalability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability of nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel production persist (Zhao et al., 2018; Zhang et al., 2019). This chapter aims to provide an overview of the current status and future prospects of integrating nanotechnology into microalgal biodiesel production. Through a 2 | Nanotools for Microalgal Biodiesel Production comprehensive analysis of recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities, we seek to elucidate the potential of nanotechnology to drive the commercialization and widespread adoption of sustainable microalgal biodiesel. By fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and leveraging emerging technologies, we can pave the way towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

Introduction 
There are terrible consequences of climate change for the planet and all human endeavors. According to statistics provided by the Bureau of Social and Economic Affairs which indicate the rate of increase in global human population is frightening; by 2050 (Rebello et al., 2010), the population is expected to surpass 9.8 billion people. Thus, throughout the course of 30 years from now, the community will encounter several issues that will threaten the survival of the majority of living things on Earth. These issues include the shortage of energy, global warming, greenhouse effects, poisonous gas emissions, and abrupt changes in the environment. The usage of natural fuels as our primary source of energy has raised issues in international scientific organizations, which are working to address one of the key causes of these problems (Zhu et al., 2016). The one method to address the issue is to find an environmentally sustainable fossil fuel replacement that can meet the world’s expanding energy needs (Dincer et al., 2000). Biofuels are one of the viable options and it is an alternative to fossil fuels since they are affordable and harmless to the surroundings (Ma et al., 2014). Various countries around the world are utilizing them to partially substitute the consumption of natural fuels. For example, Brazil uses sugarcane, while parts of Asia and Europe primarily rely on palm oil for production. In the case of biofuels made from microalgae, the United States, Brazil, China, and Japan are the biggest producers. Currently, biofuel generation predominantly relies on three distinct generations of raw organic resources, as outlined by Zhu et al. (2016) and Brennan et al. (2016). These groups represent different sources and technologies utilized to produce biofuels on a global scale. Biofuels classified as first-generation are those derived from feedstocks that are suitable for human intake, such as wheat, sugarcane, maize, palm oil, and sugar beet. Biofuels classified as secondgeneration are derived from lignin and cellulosic feedstock, which consists of non-food crop portions including husks, stems, and leaves that are often thrown away (Kalnes et al., 2007 ; Naik et al., 2010 ; Zhu et al., 2016). However, these biofuel sources can partially fulfill the world’s energy demands. One method to overcome this limitation involves third-generation biofuels, which are generated by cultivating single-celled photosynthetic microorganisms capable of converting carbon dioxide and sunlight into biomass and lipid molecules used in biofuel production (Abomohra et al., 2017).

Introduction 
The creation of molecular-scale machinery and gadgets at a few nanometers (10^-9 m), known as nanotechnology, has a substantial impact on this topic and dramatically reduces the size of a cell. To assess how nanoparticles affect the synthesis and production of biofuels, particularly biodiesels, a variety of nanomaterials, including nanofibers, nanotubes, and nanometals, are being used (1). Research on biodiesel has shown that utilizing nanotechnology and nanomaterials can be a useful approach to implementing low-cost techniques that improve manufacturing quality. Because of their tiny size and special qualities, such as a high surface area-to-volume ratio, catalytic activity, considerable crystallinity, adsorption capacity, and stability, nanoparticles (NPs) are useful in the generation of biodiesel (2). Because of their high potential recovery properties, metal oxide nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes are frequently used as nanocatalysts in the synthesis of biofuel and biodiesel (3, 4).This chapter critically evaluates the application of nanotechnology in the manufacturing and enhancement of biodiesel, addressing key challenges and potential advancements. Microalgae have been identified as a potentially useful feedstock for biodiesel production. The process of harvesting microalgae can be made much more efficient by employing a range of nanoparticles. Additionally, cost-cutting is facilitated by the recycling of nanomaterials and their incorporation into procedures including cell disruption, extraction, and harvesting. Furthermore, an array of nanocatalysts holds promise for enhancing the efficiency of biodiesel conversion (5). Classification of nanoparticles based on physical attributes as shown in (Fig.1). However, there is a growing emphasis on improving combustion efficiency and reducing harmful emissions in the engine industry and its associated fields. Several studies indicate that the introduction of nanoadditives into blends of diesel and biodiesel fuels has yielded significant results.

1. Introduction 
The Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) of nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel explores the intersection of nanotechnology and renewable energy production, aiming to assess the economic feasibility and sustainability of integrating nanomaterials into the microalgal biodiesel production process (BlancoCanqui, 2010). As the global demand for sustainable energy sources continues to rise, microalgae have emerged as a promising feedstock for biodiesel production due to their high lipid content and rapid growth rates. Nanotechnology offers innovative solutions to enhance various stages of the microalgal biodiesel production chain, from cultivation and harvesting to lipid extraction and conversion (Moustakas et al., 2020).This introduction provides an overview of the key objectives, methodologies, and implications of conducting a TEA on nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel. It outlines the significance of integrating nanomaterials into biodiesel production processes, highlights the potential benefits and challenges associated with nanotechnology adoption, and sets the stage for the subsequent analysis of economic factors and technical considerations (Borowitzka and Moheimani, 2013).The introduction also discusses the broader context of sustainable energy transition and the role of microalgal biodiesel as a renewable alternative to conventional fossil fuels (Gaurav et al., 2017). It emphasizes the importance of evaluating not only the technical feasibility but also the economic viability and environmental sustainability of nanotechnology-enabled biodiesel production methods. By conducting a comprehensive TEA, this study aims to provide valuable insights into the cost-effectiveness, scalability, and market potential of nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel, informing strategic decision-making and investment priorities in the renewable energy sector (Gouveia and Oliveira, 2009; McCollum et al., 2018). Through interdisciplinary collaboration and rigorous analysis, the TEA seeks to advance our understanding of the economic and technological factors shaping the future of sustainable biofuel production.

1. Introduction 
The growing demand for fossil fuels around the world and their extensive use, which degrades the environment, have been serious issues. More precisely, it is predicted that global energy consumption will rise by 49% between 2007 and 2035 due to social pressure, population growth, and economic expansion (Cheah et al., 2016; Prasad et al., 2016). In order to replace fossil fuels, alternative energy resources must be developed, according to energy security and environmental sustainability. The most promising bio-fuel among the alternatives to gasoline is bio-ethanol, which can be used as the only fuel in compatible automobile engines or blended with gasoline up to 30% without requiring engine changes (Safarian and Unnthorsson, 2018). Bio-ethanol has a higher-octane number, which enables engines to run at high compression ratios, and a high oxygen content, which improves combustion efficiency (Branco et al., 2019). Grain, sugar beets, corn, and sugarcane could all be used to make bio-ethanol. Together, Brazil and the United States account for over 90% of the world’s bio-ethanol production, with 59% and 27% coming from each country, respectively (Branco et al., 2019).The Policy Energy Act and Energy Independence and Security Act, which aim to consume 136 billion gallons of bio-ethanol by 2022, are the main drivers of the USA’s remarkably high production rate (Menon and Rao, 2012; Tran et al., 2019). Unfortunately, the world’s food security is now in jeopardy due to the manufacture of bio-ethanol from the aforementioned edible energy crops. For the synthesis of bio-ethanol, lignocellulosic biomass-such as agricultural residues, forest woody residues, micro-algae, and even municipal solid waste is consequently a more advantageous source. Cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin make up the lignocellulosic complex structure. While hemicellulose is in charge of binding and 88 | Biofuels Production Using Sustainable Bioprocessing Technologies lignin guarantees the toughness of the entire stricture, cellulose, a polymer made of glucose, gives plants structural support (Kumar et al., 2016; Prasad et al., 2016). According to Tran et al. (2019), pre-treatment is a crucial step in order to: (i) increase the amorphous area to facilitate hydrolysis; (ii) improve the porosity of the porous matrix to facilitate enzymatic and chemical hydrolysis; and (iii) separate cellulose from lignin and hemicellulose. The majority of the most successful pre-treatment techniques now in use are physio-chemical and chemical techniques, which also produce harmful compounds such furfural (Liyamen and Ricke, 2012). Other techniques are also used, each with advantages and disadvantages. For example, biological pre-treatment is environmentally benign but does not generate large amounts of material. Compared to the thermochemical approach, the biochemical conversion process performed better and was more ecologically friendly (Mu et al., 2010; Liyamen and Ricke, 2012; Kumar et al., 2019). It should be mentioned that the pre-treatment cost should also include the expense of detoxifying harmful inhibitors, which are created as a result of the pre-treatment technique (Liyamen and Ricke, 2012). All things considered, a successful pre-treatment ought to be both financially and environmentally responsible. It’s also critical to make sure that other advantageous aspect like maximum energy savings, waste and wastewater recycling, material recovery, and the use of a biorefinery method are taken into account throughout the lignocellulosic bioethanol production process (Kumar et al., 2019). A major challenge facing the world today is making the transition to a sustainable and resource-efficient economy, especially considering climate change, resource depletion, and rising waste production. The idea of a circular economy has drawn a lot of attention in this setting. In contrast to the conventional linear economic paradigm of “take-make-dispose,” the circular economy prioritizes closed-loop solutions that reduce waste and environmental impact by reusing, recycling, and regenerating resources. The efficient use of biomass as a plentiful and renewable resource to produce biofuels, biochemicals, and bio-based products is a crucial part of this circular framework. The combination of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, known as lignocellulosic biomass, is one of the most widely available and sustainable types of feedstocks for biomass. Originating from forestry byproducts, specific energy crops, and agricultural residues like corn stover and wheat straw, lignocellulosic biomass is a feasible substitute for raw materials derived from fossil fuels [1]. By minimizing reliance on non-renewable resources and supporting sustainable waste management, its conversion through biorefineries into a wide range of bio-based goods is fully in line with the concepts of the circular economy [2]. Integrated systems known as lignocellulosic biorefineries maximize resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact by converting all the components of biomass into marketable products. The production of biofuels (such as bioethanol and biodiesel), platform chemicals, bioplastics, and energy by these biorefineries greatly aids in the creation of renewable energy and sustainable industrial processes [3]. Biorefineries can maximize the utilization of biomass feedstocks by converting them into high-value products while upholding zero-waste principles by utilizing a variety of biochemical and thermochemical conversion processes [4]. A summation of the function of lignocellulosic biorefineries in promoting the circular economy is given in this chapter. The first section covers the current developments in pretreatment and conversion methods as well as the composition of lignocellulosic biomass. By incorporating these technologies into biorefinery systems, waste valorization and energy efficiency issues can be resolved, and biobased goods can be produced more effectively. This chapter also examines the prospects and problems faced by lignocellulosic biorefineries, looking at their technological, economic, and regulatory elements as well as how they might help with the worldwide transition to a circular bioeconomy.

Introduction 
Fossils fuel resources are crucial for producing and distributing other goods, making them one of the most important global commodities. Fossil fuels account for more than 75% of total energy consumption in society. It is critical to recognize that the fossil energy problem and anthropogenic climate change problem are inextricably linked and must be addressed as two intertwined challenges requiring a comprehensive solution. The features of coal, oil and gas which are employed as fossil fuels for power generation, have different classification of characteristics (Shindell & Smith, 2019). Fossil fuels are natural fuels and derived from the decompositions, heating and pressurization, of buries phytoplankton (plants) and zooplankton (animals). Over time, these waste materials get decomposed to produce carbon rich deposits that are now used to create energy products (Holechek et al., 2022). They are essential for the synthesis of steel and polymers in addition to energy. Fossil fuels fall into three main categories: coal, oil, and natural gas (Singh et al., 2023). Biofuels are produced from plants and animals waste materials and considered as a renewable source of energy. The sources are key components to overcome the issues related to greenhouse gas emission. Due to rapid change in climatic conditions, demand of renewable energy sources has increased. There are some drawbacks for fossil fuels due to presence of high carbon footprints and environmental impacts. On the other way, biofuels offer two major benefits first they reduce carbon emissions and modify waste management method, the other paving the way for a sustainable future. The carbon neutrality of biofuels is among their most alluring features. Biofuels only release the carbon dioxide that plants consume during growth, as opposed to fossil fuels that release old, stored carbon into the atmosphere. They are an eco-friendly choice because of this balance(Jeswani et al., 2020). Bioethanol, biodiesel, and biogas are among the several types of biofuels(Esmaeili & Tamjidi, 2021). Bioethanol is used in transportation and produced by using crops like corn and sugarcane. Waste management and sustainable energy production are further enhanced by biogas after producing with the help of anaerobic digestion of organic waste and is a great source of energy for heating and power generation. We can take a comprehensive approach to sustainability, improving energy efficiency and lessening our environmental impact, by combining the production of biofuel with waste management and the use of organic fertilizers. Significance environmental benefits of biofuels include lower GHG emission, reduced dependency on the fossil fuels and better air quality. By diversifying energy sources and possibly stabilizing prices, they also lessen exposure to changes in the world's oil markets, which promotes energy security. Nonetheless, it is essential to evaluate the wider ramifications of biofuel production and make sure that its advantages exceed any potential disadvantages in order to completely match with sustainability goals(Jeswani et al., 2020).

1. Introduction
Increasing population, industrialization, and change in the human lifestyle have become the reason for the exhaustion of non-renewable energy sources, our prime energy resource. The combustion of non-renewable energy sources produces toxic pollutants such as CO2, CO, NOx, SO2, etc., and greenhouse gases CH4, CO2, and N2O which significantly contribute to global warming, environmental pollution, and health hazards. In the current scenario, we need a green energy source that does not generate toxic gases and is eco-friendly. Hence, the research is triggered towards finding alternative solutions to overcome the energy crisis. The various green energy sources are solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, hydropower, biomass, hydrogen fuel cells, etc. The major drawback of these sources is the geographical location to install the plants. In the present context, identifying an alternate energy source that is sustainable, renewable, and eco-friendly to overcome the ever-growing energy demands is crucial. Hence, bioenergy is an eco-friendly, economical, and sustainable source of energy that gratifies the contemporary development environment by utilizing the potential of renewable organic energy resources (Yin and Wang et al., 2022).
2. Biomass
The sources of biomass are agro wastes, wood wastes, aquatic wastes, municipal wastes, wet wastes, industrial wastes, forest residues, etc. Figure 1.1 illustrates various sources of biomass, such as agricultural leftovers, forestry waste, energy crops, and organic municipal waste, showcasing their potential as renewable energy resources. Biomass is the product of photosynthesis and is also a versatile renewable energy source that can be utilized for sustainable biohydrogen generation. Biomass absorbs atmospheric CO2 during its growth, leading to relatively a lower net carbon impact as compared to fossil fuels. Renewable organic resources (biomass) can be in a solid, liquid, or gaseous phase. Energy generation through the incineration of biomass has been a longstanding practice. Since the energy potential of the biomass is not extracted effectively, it leads to environmental pollution (Kumar and Fiori et al., 2024). Biomass can be converted to liquid and gaseous fuels called biofuels with significant calorific value through thermochemical and biochemical processes (Gautam et al., 2020). Biofuels are superior to fossil fuels in the context of sustainability and reduced emissions of greenhouse gases. A variety of biofuels and chemicals such as bio-ethanol, biodiesel, acetic acid, formaldehyde, etc., can be manufactured from biomass (Gautam et al., 2020). Globally, research is advancing towards replacing non-renewable fuels with biofuels. However, the transition to biofuel technique presents a challenge due to the huge space requirement for biomass. Table 1.1 illustrates the categories of biomass employed for hydrogen generation, categorized into lignocellulosic materials, algal biomass, organic waste, and energy crops.

While ICT provides numerous advantages, challenges such as infrastructural limitations, economic constraints, and disparities in digital literacy hinder its widespread adoption. Addressing these barriers through policy interventions and capacity-building initiatives is crucial for maximizing the potential of ICT in agriculture. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into agriculture to address contemporary challenges such as climate change, population growth, and the demand for sustainable food production. AI applications in soil and crop monitoring, predictive analytics, and agricultural robotics are gaining attraction, assisting farmers in data collection and analysis (Smith, 2020; Gupta et al., 2023). Moreover, automation in agriculture, driven by AI, addresses issues such as crop diseases, irrigation management, and pest control. Techniques like IoT, machine learning, and deep learning contribute to the automation of farming practices, increasing soil fertility and productivity (Jha et al., 2019). Robotics and automated systems minimize human intervention, thereby enhancing farm efficiency and sustainability (Eli-Chukwu, 2019). In Indian agriculture and its sub sectors contribute for about 18.4 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Globally, our country is being rated as on of the rapid growing major economies and rated as fifth largest economy by nominal GDP and in Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) its 3rd largest in the world. The horticultural crops have a special place in India’s economy because they raise rural residents’ incomes. India’s horticulture production has surpassed food grain production and reached 320.11 million MT which is a huge accomplishment. In Andhra Pradesh the horticulture crops are spread across 17.84 lakh ha with 312.34 lakh MT yield. Andhra Pradesh is first in terms of fruit and spice producing area, and second in terms of micro irrigation area coverage. The horticulture industry makes for around 16.07 percent of the state Gross Value Addition. In India, Andhra Pradesh ranks first in the production of tomatoes, oil palm, papaya, cocoa, chillies, and cocoa, and second in cashew, mango, and sweet orange. Horticulture is increasingly being recognized as a sunrise industry because of its potential to boost farm income, provide a stable source of livelihood, and generate foreign exchange through exports. India’s distinctive agro-climatic conditions, coupled with its vast diversity of crops and genetic resources, enable the country to produce a wide range of horticultural crops year-round. The Government of Andhra Pradesh crafted Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University in Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district in 2007, subsequently renamed as Dr. YSR Horticultural University in 2011. The safety of meat and its derivatives is a paramount concern in the dynamic realm of food trade. Consumers demand food products that are not only affordable and possess an extended shelf life but are also of high safety standards. Consequently, meat inspections require strict adherence to good manufacturing practices and safety labelling that aligns with regulatory standards. Food-borne pathogens, including Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, pathogenic Escherichia coli, Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter spp., and Vibrio spp., are responsible for numerous illnesses, thereby exerting a significant impact on public health and the economy. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), food contaminated with pathogens, chemicals, and allergens results in 600 million cases of food-borne illnesses and approximately 400,000 deaths globally each year. Furthermore, 56 million individuals die annually, with about 7.7% of the global population affected by foodborne diseases. Meat and meat products are essential sources of nutrients for humans, providing high-quality protein, essential amino acids, B vitamins, and minerals. However, due to their high-water activity and nutrient content, they also create a conducive environment for spoilage microorganisms and food-borne pathogens. Until a few decades ago, the meat industry was largely dominated by the unorganized sector, with limited access to knowledge that could enhance productivity. However, in the post-World Trade Organization (WTO) era, meat entrepreneurs have succeeded in increasing productivity, although they have faced challenges in ensuring product quality that aligns with the legislative standards of numerous developed and developing countries. The use of antibiotics as antimicrobial growth promoters in animal food production has been a contentious issue, as their unauthorized application has inadvertently contributed to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria within the food chain. Recently, the United States Trade Representative’s office estimated that international trade has expanded significantly since the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) was signed in 1947. The establishment of the WTO in 1995 further facilitated trade in animal-origin foods and live animals between nations. However, the emergence and re-emergence of diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria have become a significant concern in this new pattern of food trade. Some of these pathogens are so virulent that they were not previously reported. According to a 1998 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the annual cost of foodborne illnesses in the United States is nearly 10 billion US dollars. The bacterial pathogens most commonly associated with illnesses from beef products include Salmonella spp., Clostridium perfringens, and Staphylococcus aureus. Interest in Escherichia coli O157: H7 increased following a highly publicized food poisoning outbreak linked to undercooked beef patties in the United States in 1993, although it was largely confined to North America until the mid-1990s. Similarly, multidrug-resistant Salmonella typhimurium DT-104 has spread widely since it was first identified in the United Kingdom. In India, the incidence of Salmonella in red meat was recorded at up to 9%. These potentially harmful bacterial pathogens can reside on the hides or in the intestinal tracts of foodproducing animals or may originate indirectly through cross-contamination or the processing environment. Other emerging foodborne diseases include Listeriosis, which has spread throughout France and Canada, where meat and meat products have been implicated as sources of Listeria monocytogenes. Similarly, Staphylococcal food poisoning or food intoxication syndrome, first reported in 1894, has become a global issue in the meat industry.

Introduction
India is the seventh largest having 329.73 million ha of geographical area and second most populous country having more than a billion population in the world. There is no other substitute other than to use every square inch of land and every drop of water effectively and efficiently. Though there was markedly increase in annual food grain production from 51 (1950-51) million tones t0 206 million tones (2000-01), still the death on hunger is visualized.
The demand for food is increasing with ever-increasing population growth rate. So there is no option other than to increase food production. There is very little or no scope of horizontal expansion due to land limitation, the question of vertical expansion is the only way to fit with the situation. Genetically improved crop variety, hybrids, mechanized agriculture, higher rate of fertilizers and chemicals application may give one or two more green revolution, but the question lies how far it can sustain greenness?
Adoption of improved crop cultivars, cropping system, increasing cropping intensities, precision farming can hold good to get out of this situation where whole system is to be considered.
The cropping intensities in the states like Assam, Bihar, MP, Orissa, UP and West Bengal are 137.7, 137.8, 125.6, 154.6, 148.6 and 159.6 percent, respectively (FAI,1994-95). This indicated that a vast majority of lands remain fallow during dry season due to lack of proper technologies, which are under rainfed conditions, neglected. Except West Bengal, more than half of the arable land remains fallow during rainless period. Increasing cropping intensities in rainfed uplands is not easily achievable but there is great potential of intensification of cropping in rainfed lowland by utilizing natural resources and conserved residual moisture. Pulses like black gram, green gram, lentil, lathyrus, chick pea and oilseeds like linseed, groundnut, rapeseed could not only increase the cropping intensities but also come forward to increase national productivity.

Introduction
Surface irrigation is the distribution of water using open canals in which water flows by gravity. This type of irrigation, which includes flood irrigation, requires relatively flat fields and deep soils.
A good irrigation will ensure a uniform and homogenous distribution of water in small and regular doses. The status of moisture in the soil also aims at maintaining the relative humidity in a plot at a stable level, to limit the development of weeds and pathogens. Irrigation is also used to avoid the transmission of phyto-sanitary problems or the leaching of pesticides.

Heavy metal contamination in soils and water is a risk to environmental health, agricultural production and human well-being. Future directions call for legislative reforms, empowered river basin authorities, technological innovations and greater public participation to ensure the ecological integrity and long-term sustainability of India’s rivers for present and future generations.
