Production of Indole-3 Acetic acid (IAA) and mineral phosphate solubilization (MPS) are two predominant and direct mechanisms used by plant growth promoting rhizobacterial strains (PGPR). These traits are widespread among bacteria. Moreover, the role of IAA in plant-microbe interactions is diverse varying from pathogenesis to phytostimulation, to its role as a signaling molecule in microorganisms. With the advent of high performance analytics, molecular tools and recombinant methods, it has become feasible to investigate biochemical pathways of bacterial IAA synthesis at the genetic, biochemical and chemical levels. In the current study, we isolated several PGPRs from Western Ghats region, India.  Of all the efficient isolates, Serratia marcescens SM15 emerged as the most efficient PGPR isolate based on in vitro plant growth assays and ability to express PGPR traits.

Information is a basic resource essential for individual and organization in order to survive and succeed in society. Floriculture is a technology driven industry needing technological advancement. The new technologies that are being developed at various places the world over, needs to be disseminated through proper and quick linkage between the researchers and the beneficiaries i.e. the farmers. This demand can be met out by information technology. Information is data put into a meaningful and useful text. Today, information technology (IT) is a metaresource and computers are being used as a metatool and a metamedia.

COMPONENTS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

An information technology architecture is an integrated framework for acquiring and evolving IT to achieve strategic goals. It has both logical and technical components. Logical components include mission, functional and information requirements, system configurations and information flows. Technical components include IT standards and rules that will be used to implement the logical architecture.

Input devices: The advent of touch screen monitors has made it possible to develop user-friendly interface for farmers. It is now possible to capture and store good quality graphics and video clips with digital cameras.

Output devices: Output devices like monitor screen, printers and plotters, data projectors support high resolution and good quality output.

Processors: The processing speeds of computers have improved a lot these days. At present, Intel P-IV based processors @ 3.3 Ghz are available in the PC range.

Storage devices: To store substantial information at local level. Capacity of 40 GB and higher are common in hard disk devices, besides floppy disk drives and CDs; all making it possible to transfer large amount of data to locations which cannot be connected to networks quickly.

Starting from the middle of the 20^th Century, information has become a commodity. Those best able to access information will be more successful than their peers in their future careers. Technological competence will be as important as medical competence to practice at the highest levels. Advances in computer technology have made access to veterinary and medical databases much simpler than in the past. It is quite likely that in the future, it will be a malpractice for practitioners not to access online information essential to the treatment of their patients. Wireless digital transfer of information will make access to necessary information independent of time and place.

Veterinary medicine and educational delivery are becoming an increasingly international market. Those who are prepared to deliver material in this manner will have a competitive advantage. Use of digital technologies will allow veterinary colleges to share information, including class material, more efficiently. This will enable each college to market specific educational information for students at other veterinary colleges or continuing education modules to graduate veterinarians around the world. On-line certificate programmes in specific veterinary topics will be developed. Use of computer technologies can enrich the teaching environment. By digitizing library, classroom, and laboratory visual images, students can access these materials at any time or place, freeing them from library and classroom schedules. Medical colleges have found that students heavily use these image resources. Computer technologies provide both horizontal and vertical integration of the professional curriculum, allowing students to explore information to the depth at which they are comfortable, without regard to their “year of study” in a traditional “linear” curriculum. Allowing students to see future applications of current learning material provides additional incentive to master basic material. Computers are a tool, just like a textbook, notebook, or calculator.

The rapid advancement of information technology in recent years has led to an explosion in the awareness of environmental concerns and issues pertaining to human health. UNEP created UNEP net, the green global Internet, as well as the satellite communication system.
Information technology is necessary for environmental management.
The general population, especially in developing nations, and decision- and policymakers still have limited or no access to this information in a readily comprehensible format. Politicians and the general public have not yet been able to personally experience the effects of ozone layer depletion, climate change, or biodiversity loss. These are all new challenges, and scientists strongly advise taking more immediate action than legislators are able to. Thus, it is more crucial than ever to close the knowledge gap between scientists and decision-makers in order to formulate environmental policy.
UNEP created the Global Resource Information Database in 1985 in an effort to close this information gap and give the world’s population access to current, trustworthy environmental data. Telecommunications and geographic information technology were used as strategic tools to do this, with the former being used for information exchange and analysis and the latter for information distribution.

INTRODUCTION

The first significant economic contribution of host plant resistance in agriculture was made in 1890 when European grape vines were successfully grafted on resistant root stock to save the French Wine industry from viteus vilifaliac (Fitch). Studies from the past century have led to the development of resistant varieties in about 15 crops to about 50 key insect pests. During the last 20 years alone, more than 500 insect resistant cultivars of rice, maize, cotton, sorghum, alfalfa and wheat have been developed and released world wide (Dhaliwal and Arora, 2001). The insect resistant varieties are grown on millions of ha. annually and help the farmers to save billions of dollars in insecticide costs (Dhaliwal and Arora, 2001). The role of Host Plant Resistance in Integrated Pest Management is discussed below.

Introduction

Pollination is an essential ecosystem service for the maintenance and conservation of biodiversity on the earth. Many food crops, barring cereals, are entomophilous in nature and rely on insects for pollination. The pollinators in turn are benefited by obtaining floral resources such as nectar, pollen or both. This mutualism has evolved over centuries and been helping both natural terrestrial ecosystems as well as man-made agro-ecosystems. Pollinators such as bees, birds and bats contribute to 35 per cent of the world’s crop production, increasing outputs of 87 of the leading food crops worldwide (FAO, 2009). The total economic value of crop pollination worldwide has been estimated at €156 billion annually (Gallai et al., 2009). The area covered by pollinator-dependent crops has increased by more than 300 per cent during the past 50 years (Aizen and Harder 2009). Pollinators are found in diverse groups of the animal kingdom, including birds, bats, reptiles, insects, etc. Among them, insects particularly honey bees, dominate in providing pollination services to several plants. There are about 19,000 described species of bees in the world (Linsley, 1958) and, with the exception of one species, Apis mellifera L., the domestic honey bee, all of them are grouped under the general term ‘wild bees’. India is endowed with the greatest biodiversity as far as honey bee species are concerned and is home to five species viz., A. cerana, A. florea, A. dorsata, A. andreniformis and A. laboriosa besides hosting A. melllifera, an introduced one. In addition, several other pollinators including stingless bees, carpenter bees, bumble bees, megachilids, halictids, sphecids, andrenids, syrphids, etc. occur in several agro-ecosystems (Thakur, 2012). Studies on crop pollination by insects are becoming increasingly critical because of a perceived global decline in pollinator stocks, with great economical and conservation consequences (Ghazoul, 2005a, 2005b; Steff an-Dewenter et al., 2005). In the recent years, there has been a concern about declines in both wild and domesticated pollinators, especially honey bees (Reddy et al., 2012a). A large proportion of horticultural crops is potentially vulnerable to declines in honey bee and other pollinator insects (Table 1). One of the essential requirements to adequately evaluate the importance of animal pollination for food production and the impact of pollinator losses is to determine the pollination needs of different cultivated plants. However, detailed studies of crop pollination requirements are incomplete in many crops (Klein et al., 2007).

Tank irrigation is passing through a critical juncture in India today. Tank irrigation contributes significantly to agricultural production in India in general, and in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, in particular. The tank irrigation system is one of the vast networks of thousands of water bodies that constituted a distinctive landscape which was medieval in origin but still the basis of livelihood in the dry Southern plains(Mosse, 2003, P-4). Tank is a small reservoir constructed across the slope of the valley to catch and store water during rainy season. Water is controlled by sluices attached to the tank bank and is delivered to paddy field by distributing channels. Tank is considered as a common property resource. The National Sample Survey Organization defines common property resources as the resources that are accessible to and collectively owned, managed by identifiable community and on which no individual has exclusive property rights (NSSO, 1999).

Abstract

Women play a critical and potentially transformative role in agricultural growth in developing countries but they face persistent obstacles and economic constraints limiting their potential inclusion in agriculture. The feminization of agriculture is determined by two major factors, first compared to men, women have much poorer access to and control over productive resources and they have inadequate access to public services, such as training, extension and credit. Women farmers often lack the know-how and the confidence to use the improved technology and most of the new technologies. The reason being most of these advancements are aimed at male specific end users. Giving support to rural women is a way of breaking the vicious cycle that leads to rural poverty so there is need to cut the drudgery of women farmers and make their efforts worthwhile and economical. Development strategies should consider rural women as the epicenter, paying special attention to their social skills both within and without agriculture sector. In terms of equity, women overall have lower awareness of AAS than men do, indicating the importance of targeting women in communications efforts. More trainings are required to generate interest and motivate farm women to learn about the AAS and use it. Closing the gender productivity gap could increase agricultural output in by a significant amount. Increased production would also imply increased food availability and reductions in undernourishment. Integrating Gender and Agriculture within Agricultural Extension System empowers families, helps women to contribute to household incomes, increases productivity & reduces gender gaps in agriculture.

Introduction

Pulmonary vascular tone regulation involves the balance between vasoconstriction and vasodilation, primarily controlled by pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) and endothelial cells (Lyle et al., 2017). This regulation is influenced by various factors, including ion channels, which modulates the flow of ions like K+, Ca2+, Na+ and Cl- across cell membranes, affecting vascular contraction and relaxation. Diseases like pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) are attributed to dysregulation of vascular tone, which is essential for preserving ideal blood flow and pressure in the lungs (Christou and Khalil, 2022). Excessive vasoconstriction and impaired vasodilation increase pulmonary arterial pressure. This heightened resistance strains the right ventricle, leading to heart failure over time. Dysregulated ion channel movement in PASMCs is often a key factor in the development and progression of the disease. Ion channel receptors are promising candidates for medical therapy for the amelioration of pulmonary vascular disorders. Agents that regulate the functioning of ion channels may be employed to treat aberrant pulmonary blood vessel tone (Jouen-Tachoire et al., 2021).

ABSTRACT

The future of any country depends on how the youth are moulded. Employment is the key to economic and social development and providing youths with job opportunities is a major issue for all countries irrespective of their level of development. Villages have become a source of cheap labour for growing cities. Meanwhile, rural communities are deprived off the services of rural youth. Increasing pressure on land is compelling youth to get out of farming. In India, there are 639 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) located in every district and also known as the AKC (Agriculture Knowledge Centre). One of the mandate of KVKs is to impart vocational trainings to rural unemployed youth, landless laborer, school dropout boys and girls. The Hisar Districthas been divided into nine blocks and three sub divisions covering 274 villages, with average annual rainfall about 400 mm and the soil type issandy to sandy loam. Sh. Joginder Singh s/o Sh. Mahender Singh, 10+2 passed, 26 yrs. old youth was engaged in traditional cultivation of agricultural crops on his farm at village Saharwa (Hisar). In 2010, he came in contact with KVK, Hisar and got trainings from this centre. He was motivated to diversify his traditional system of agriculture with integrated farming system of vegetable production+ dairy farming+ horticulture+ boundary plantation of agro-forestry multipurpose tree species. With this diversified farming system, his income increased many folds i.e. Rs. 35000/acre to Rs. 4.40 lac/acre/year.

Introduction

Food security is defined as "a situation that exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life" (The State of Food Insecurity, 2001) (see http://www.who.int/trade/glossary/story028/en/). As of 2015, the concept of food security has mostly focused on food calories rather than the quality and nutrition of food. Thus, food security usually emphasizes food quantity and therefore "nutrition security" is used for the quality dimension. The concept of food security has four dimensions: availability, accessibility, utilization and vulnerability. The interactions among them determine how food secure a country is or how adequate, steady and risk-free food consumption is at the household and individual levels (Kumar and Ayyappan, 2014). Though substantial progress has been achieved in reducing food insecurity, maintaining food security at the national and household level is a major challenge for India (Singh, 2014). The present article briefs about global and Indian scenarios on food security aspects, and the key role of livestock in achieving zero hunger by means of livestock-derived foods such as milk, egg and meat products.

Indian farming community is dominated by the marginal and small farmers who account for nearly 86 percent of farm holdings in India. As these farmers have small land holdings of less than 2 hectare, their income from farming is meagre and not sufficient to meet family expenses (Lalji et al., 2019). As a result, these farmers often follow family income augmentation strategy either by taking land on lease, working as wage earner or livestock rearing. Among all these family income augmentation activities, livestock rearing is the most frequently adopted strategy they undertake to augment their family income. It is observed that in India in general, farmers follow livestock integrated farming system (Paramesh et al, 2022). Popularity of livestock activity to augment farm family income of poor farmers is due to synergy of livestock rearing with the farming. Agriculture waste in the form of green and dry fodder contribute important inputs in livestock rearing. Whereas, farm animals are important source of farm energy needed for cultivation. Livestock waste helps in maintaining soil fertility and protein supply to farm families. Animal rearing also help in managing cash flow for farm family as it generates cash from the sale of milk and other animal products on the daily basis. Sale of live animals help in meeting contingency expenses of farm family. Thus, it solves peculiar problem of farm family cash paradox where farmer gets income through sales of agriculture harvest only during harvest season which happens only two / three times in a year but he needs cash on daily basis to meet his other health, educational, social etc. family needs.

Introduction The ecological stability and food web of intertidal environments are significantly influenced by macroalgae. The majority of marine organisms, including macroalgae, coral reefs, sponges, and the organisms that they are associated with, are well known for producing secondary metabolites and bioactive compounds, which increase their value in a variety of industries, including food, neutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and others. Among them, seaweeds play a vital role in promoting health by offering a variety of phytochemicals with antioxidant, antibacterial, anticancer, and antiviral action (Ngo et al. 2012). Worldwide, there have been more than 20,000 macroalgal species identified. In South Asian nations including China, Japan, and Korea, it has been used as sea vegetables. India now has 841 macroalgal species identified,including 434, 191, and 216 species of red algae, brown algae, and green algae, respectively (Oza and Zaidi, 2001).

Land resources units or major land resources units are the suitable segmentations of land, based on available natural resources, their potential use and management. Irrespective of terms used by different organizations or institutes, these units have spatial dimension and represent a composite unit for interstate, regional, and national level planning. A typical meaning of these land units can be related to terms like land system. Christian and Stewart (1953) of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia devised the ‘Land system’ as the composite mapping-unit which has been defined as “an area or group of areas, throughout which there is a recurring pattern of topography, soils and vegetation”. This system is based on the premise that the land system is expressed on aerial photographs by a distinctive pattern and, as such, the land system can be directly mapped from aerial photographs (Christian and Stewart 1953, Mabbutt and McAlpine 1965). It is a fact that during those period, aerial photographs were more frequently used and studies related to land systems used technique of aerial photogrammetry. As per USDA (United States Developmental Agency), the typical segmentations are; (1) Land Resource Region (LRR), which is the highest level in the hierarchy (2) Major Land Resource Area (MLRA), the second highest level and generally representing broad landforms or a geologic region at a small scale and (3) the Land Resource Unit (LRU).

Abstract

This paper studies the role and status of Indian Agricultural Market Intelligence System (IAMIS) in improving the economic returns of agri-sector in India. Marketing intelligence makes agricultural marketers, including agri-entrepreneurs, aware and updated and reduces risk in decision making. India produced 275.112 million tonnes of food grains in 2016-17 and the projected requirement is 311million tonnes in 2030. Income of farmers has increased at a CAGR of 10.61% and number of farmers has declined at a CAGR of -0.25% from 1993-94 to 2014-15. Acreage remains stagnant. Given this background, to exploit full potential of agricultural production, market intelligence has a great role. The DES and Department of Food with their 435 market information systems (MIS) units transmit daily information through public media. The essential prerequisite of ensuring farmers’income is that they need credible information about “likely price situation”. Agriculture Marketing Intelligence System (AMIS, 2011) has emerged with the aim to provide services in agriculture and allied sectors. ICAR (1991) took initiatives under World Bank to assist National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) and Export Market Intelligence Cell (EMIC) was set up in Tamil Nadu with ten State Agricultural Universities. This paper uses globally available price forecasting models (ARIMA, GARCH, etc.)on 20 crops to provide an idea of the existing status and policies in agricultural market intelligence.

Potato ranks third among the major food crops after wheat and rice in the world. It is most important and versatile food of the world. India is second largest potato producer next to china.Potatois bulky and watery in nature and requires lot of energy for production and processing. Sustenance of agriculturalproductivitygoes handin handwith mechanization of differentfarm operations, which aims at achieving timeliness of operations, efficientuseof inputs safety and comfort of farmers, reduction in cost of produce and drudgery of farmers (Verma et. al, 1992).With the emergence of new crop rotations and enhanced cropping intensity, many farmers experience scarcity of time and labour. Mechanization plays an important role in timely completing farm operations involved in potato production. It implies a resource management strategy to increase productivity and economic returns. Efforts have been made at various levels to mechanise both production and processing. Various mechanical tools, implements and machinery have been developed for land development, fertilizer application, planting, weeding, harvesting, preparation for storage and on-farm processing of potato (Singh and Gulati 2014).

As Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of Nation, rightly pointed out that “The true India is to be found not in its few cities, but in its seven hundred thousand villages. If the villages perish, India will perish too”. (GoI website) Primarily India is an agrarian society, where more than 70% people lives in countryside. As majority of our population reside in rural hinterland and their livelihood depends on agricultural and economic activities related to it. People from rural areas migrating to mega cities or urban areas or industrial townships to seek jobs in service sectors. The seasonal migration of laborers to big cities has become a regular feature in our economy. These uprooted people feel lucky to get something to earn for near and dear ones. 58 per cent of these rural households are employed in farming sector i.e. cultivation, livestock rearing and other agricultural activity, which in turn contributes less than 60 per cent to their average monthly income. These were the findings of the ‘Situation Assessment Survey of Agriculture Households’ for the 2012-2013 crop years, from July to June. A brief overview of Indian economy reveals that agriculture contributes 16.5 per cent of the GDP contribution, compared to Industry’s 29.8 per cent and service sector’s 54.4, as per the census of 2015. It is also worth to recall that despite the big claim of booming Indian economy, the share of informal employment in total employment has remained above 90 per cent throughout the period 2004-05 to 2011-12, the Economic Survey 2014-15 revealed.

Millions of people worldwide suffer from food insecurity and malnutrition, which are exacerbated by issues including pollution, overcrowding, climate change, and economic hardship. These problems highlight the necessity of changing food systems for better immunity and health since they lead to both undernutrition and overnutrition. Essential carbs, fiber, fats, and important micronutrients including iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, and magnesium are all found in nutrient-dense grains such as foxtail, kodo, proso, tiny, and pearl millets. Prominent research organizations, including as ICRISAT, ICAR, and CGIAR, are actively working to conserve millet and create better types to combat chronic illnesses and malnutrition. Targeted improvements in disease resistance and nutrient content are now possible because to biotechnology advancements. For improved worldwide health outcomes, dietary patterns must nonetheless be changed and these nutrient rich grains incorporated into contemporary food systems, notwithstanding current advancements.

Microbes play a crucial role in floriculture by enhancing plant health, growth and resilience. Beneficial microbes such as bacteria, fungi and mycorrhizae, form symbiotic relationships with plants, aiding in nutrient uptake and improving soil structure. These microorganisms decompose organic matter releasing essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which are vital for flower development. Agriculture is the backbone of many economies worldwide, providing food, f ibre, and other essential resources. However, production of these goods generates a significant amount of agricultural waste that must be properly managed.According to United Nations, agricultural waste often consists of silt and salt which get drained from fields, fertilizer runoff from fields, pesticides that end up in the water, air, or soil, harvest waste, and other wastes from farms, poultry houses,slaughterhouses and spoiled food waste too. Different agricultural activities generate agricultural waste, including materials like vegetable waste, sugarcane bagasse, rice and wheat straw and husks, food byproducts, jute fibers, crop stalks, and similar items.The generation of agricultural waste in large quantities pollutes the environment which causes many issues in the environment and is also hazardous to humans.Agricultural wastes like crop residues that are retained after harvesting get burned by the farmers leading to significant environmental consequences by emitting 141.15 million tons (Mt) of carbon dioxide (CO2 ), 8.77 Mt of carbon monoxide (CO), 0.23 Mt of nitric oxide (NO), and 0.12 Mt of ammonia (NH3 ).It contributes to air pollution and loses itshigh organic content. So the proper management of these wastes is of utmost importance for mankind and the environment. The basic principle of managing agricultural waste based on the concept of reuse, reduce, and recycle by adopting sustainable practices to minimize waste generation and promote environmental conservation. Agricultural wastes like Crop residues undergo physical, chemical, and biological decompositions, breaking down lignocellulosic linkages and enriching soil nutrient content, in which the most efficient decomposition process is biological, facilitated by bacterial and fungal spores (microbes) accelerating the waste breakdown aerobically and anaerobically. Microbes are ubiquitous and have played a very crucial role in addressing various environmental challenges faced by humanity. Decomposition with the help of microbes enhances soil nutrition through nitrogen fixation, phosphorus solubilization, and cellulose degradation in the decomposed end product.Microbes, such as bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes, are the driving force behind the natural decomposition of agri-waste.

ABSTRACT

54 foraminiferal species belonging to 29 genera, 23 families, 17 superfamilies and 5 suborders have been identified from Nagaland. Of the total species 16 are planktic and 38 are benthic forms. The age for the Upper Disang Group of Nagaland is assigned as Late Eocene, based on the presence of Late Eocene markers i.e. Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta, Cribrohantkenina inflata, Hantkenina alabamensis and Turborotalia cerroazulensis. As per the present study the Disang succession in Nagaland can be grouped into five biofacies. The Uvigerina dominated biofacies consisting Uvigerina cocoaensis, U. continuosa, U. eocaena, U. glabrans, U. jacksonensis and U. cf. steyeri. In some samples even up to 100 % Uvigerina were present. The localized occurrence of thick “Uvigerinids” in high percentage with pyritized test in this section indicates anoxic conditions, suggestive of possible source rock for oil.

According to the “Mutually Aided Cooperative Societies (MACS) Act” of 1995 or as a “Farmers Producer Corporation” (FPC) under the “Companies Act” of 2013, a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) is often a society or company made up of farmers who are actual producers of a specific crop or commodities. Depending on the demands of the producers and the demand potential to adopt a value chain approach to boost farmers' and producers' economic and social benefits, these organisations are established at the cluster, block, district, or state level. The Indian government, state governments, development organisations, and central institutions have recently placed a greater emphasis on farmer-producer firms. Many of the nations’ Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have been aiding in the development of cooperatives and farmer-producer organisations.

Steps in formulation of FPOs

1. Preliminary Assessment and Need Identification

• Identify the group of farmers interested in forming an FPO.

• Conduct a preliminary assessment of the needs, resources, and aspirations of the farmers in the target area.

• Determine the type of products or crops that the FPO will focus on.

Since our existence, we practiced to be fit and fine with the food as a single option traditionally to cure ourselves also which we come to know about their selection with long term experiences. It is a type of diet therapy where food works like medicine. Presently, we practice the same through medicinal diet therapy where selected foods and food supplements are suggested to be taken with medicine for longevity promotion and fit (Zou, 2016).

Since times immemorial, cereals have always been the main source of the food for human population. 1. Introduction
Oil spills are defined as the unintentional release of liquid petroleum hydrocarbons into the environment, predominantly impacting marine ecosystems. This form of pollution, often caused by human activities, can also occur onterrestrial landscapes. Spills typically result from the discharge of crude oilfrom sources such as tankers, offshore platforms, drilling rigs, and wells, aswell as from refined petroleum products like gasoline and diesel (Smith etal., 2019). While such incidents are primarily accidental, they may arise fromvarious circumstances, including inadequate storage or poor maintenance,leading tocontainerleaks. Historically, one of the earliest documented oil spillsoccurred in 1907 in Batum, a region then part of the Russian Empire (moderndayBatumi, Georgia). This incident, involving a collision between an oil-ladenship and another vessel in the Black Sea, marked the beginning of recorded oilspill events, though historical records from that time remain limited (Johnsonet al., 2021). The consequences of oil spills are profound, affecting both theenvironment and the economy. On the ocean’s surface, oil disrupts aquaticecosystems by blocking sunlight penetration and depleting dissolved oxygenlevels, which are vital for marine life. Crude oil compromises the insulating andwaterproofing properties of fur and feathers, leading to hypothermia and deathin oil-coated birds and marine mammals. Additionally, ingesting oil can causeseveretoxicity, while damage to habitats and reproductive systems often delaysthe long-term recovery of affected species. Coastal vegetation, particularly inecosystems such as saltwater marshes and mangroves, is also highly vulnerable

Profitable broiler production demands dietary nutrients including energy, protein, mineral, vitamins and additives as per the body requirement to meet high growth of the birds. Though energy and protein are the principal nutrients required for growth of birds but the essential role of minerals in poultry production cannot be ignored. Minerals have multifaceted role in the body. They are the components of bones and other soft tissues and play significant role in acid base balance, osmotic pressure regulation and membrane permeability. Trace minerals have major role in functioning of various enzymatic, metabolic and biochemical reaction for effective utilization of nutrients. They are constituents of many proteins involved in metabolism of nutrients, immune defense systems and hormone secretion pathways. Deficiency diseases, metabolic disorders, poor growth rate, low production, low hatchability and low feed efficiency are normally observed on deficiency or imbalance supply of minerals to livestock and poultry.

Along with other trace minerals, selenium is supplemented in broiler ration as an essential trace mineral required for normal growth and production of broiler birds. It was discovered in 1817 by J.J. Berzelius.

Heavy metal contamination in soils and water is a risk to environmental health, agricultural production and human well-being. Conventional remediation methods are expensive and not particularly efficient, so nanobioinoculants are being accepted as a more sustainable solution for bioremediation of heavy metals. Combinations of nanoparticles and microorganisms work together to increase the removal or immobilization of toxic metals from contaminated environments. Nanobioinoculants provide advantage of the high surface area and reactivity of nanoparticles, alongside the metabolic diversity of microbes like bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes. These microbes facilitate the heavy metal detoxification through the mechanisms such as biosorption, bioaccumulation, biotransformation, and nanoparticle assisted immobilization. Mostly microbial strains have metal tolerance and the ability of biofilm formation provides further protection and play a role in sequestration of the heavy metal. Nanoparticle integration with microbes increases their resilience to perform well in harsh conditions. With these advantages nanobioinoculants are found to be a sustainable and effective way of combating heavy metal contamination in the environment. Agriculture in India is livelihood for a majority of the population and can never be underestimated. Increasing population, increasing average income and globalisation effects in India will increase demand for quantity, quality and nutritious food, and variety of food. Therefore, pressure on decreasing available cultivable land to produce more quantity, variety and quality of food will keep on increasing. India’s food security depends on producing cereal crops, as well as increasing its production of fruits, vegetables and milk to meet the demands of a growing population with rising incomes. To reach world-wide food security, improved food production and food productivity, we need to approve innovative and futuristic advances and technologies to improve crop cultivation, yield and productivity.

Introduction 
Fossil fuel consumption is associated with a number of grave problems, including economic distress and increased greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. The world’s population and environment are deeply concerned about these issues, which are a result of rising greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of fossil fuels. Furthermore, there has been much discussion about the effects of relying so heavily on petroleum-derived fuels on the environment, the economy, and energy efficiency [1]. According, high process costs, inadequate infrastructure, and other technological challenges impede the manufacturing of second- and third-generation biofuels [2]. The main role of enzymes and other microorganisms during fermentation is as a catalyst to speed up the process of turning saccharides into alcohol. In this kind of biofuel production, lignocellulosic and algal material make up the majority of the biomass used to produce ethanol. The biochemical variety of microalgae is employed in numerous biotechnological and commercial applications [3]. The use of non-usable biomass has been enhanced with each new generation, which lowers production costs and speeds up the manufacture of biofuels. A wide variety of biofuels, such as biogas, bioethanol, biohydrogen, and biodiesel, can now be produced thanks to the application of nanotechnology. In order to convert triglycerides into biofuels, two important chemical events must occur: trans-esterification and esterification [4]. The majority of the nano-catalysts needed to produce biofuel come from microbial fuel cells. Nanoparticles, nanosheets, and nanotubes are examples of these nanocatalysts [5]. The utilization of nanotechnology in the biofuel production process holds promise for enhancing the effectiveness of current procedures. Compared to the production of biofuels, the synthesis of nanoparticles is much more interesting due to the potential applications, challenges, and opportunities that it presents [6]. Here, we review the literature on the application of nanotechnology to improve bioenergy production from algae processing. The different kinds of nanoparticles, including metallic, magnetic, metal oxide-based, and carbon nanotubes that are utilised in the production of bioethanol and biodiesel are covered on this page. A focus is placed on the application of these nanomaterials and how they affect the extraction and transesterification of lipids [7]. This chapter makes the connection between the advancement of nanotechnology and its contribution to the creation of a more efficient and sustainable technique for processing algal biomass to produce bioenergy.

Nanotechnology deals with understanding and control of matter at 1-100 nm dimensions. Nano-sized materials have been part of everyday life in the form of biological entities and processes. Many of the structural building elements in foods are colloids in nature and are built up as a result of self assembly of nano-sized molecules in particles or at interfaces. The most important food raw materials-proteins, starches and fats undergo structural changes at the nanometer and micrometer scales during normal food processing. Unique phenomena occurring at this length scale are being exploited for novel food applications. Functional foods are products, in food or drink form, which influence specific functions in the body and thereby offer benefits for health, well-being, or performance beyond their regular nutritional value. Nanotechnology promises to provide means of altering and manipulating food products to efficiently deliver nutrients like proteins and antioxidants for precisely targeted nutritional and health benefits. Nanotechnology applications for functional food ingredients and additives offer range of benefits to the consumer in terms of innovative, tasteful and healthy food products. Nanoencapsulation systems aid smart protection and delivery of bioactives so as to ensure their stability, taste, colour, safety and bioavailability. The advent of nanotechnology has opened up innovations in food packaging with improved stability and barrier properties. However, need exists to develop regulatory systems for managing any risks associated with functional nanofoods and the use of nanotechnologies in the food industry.

1. Introduction
Nanotechnology, which involves manipulating and controlling matter at the nanoscale, offers innovative solutions for enhancing soil quality, nutrient management, and remediation of contaminated soils (Lal et al., 2019). According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO, 2015), approximately 33% of global soils are degraded due to erosion, nutrient depletion, and chemical contamination. This degradation poses a severe threat to food security and environmental sustainability. Moreover, the world population is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, placing further pressure on agricultural systems to produce more food without degrading soil resources (Tripathi et al., 2019). In this context, nanotechnology presents a promising avenue for sustainable soil management. The unique properties exhibited by nanomaterials enable precise monitoring, targeted delivery of nutrients, and effective remediation of soil contaminants. Nanosensors equipped with nanomaterials and nanoparticles allow real-time monitoring of soil parameters, enabling farmers to make informed decisions regarding irrigation, fertilization, and pest management (Gogos et al., 2017). For instance, a case study conducted by Smith et al. (2021) demonstrated the effectiveness of nanosensors in monitoring soil moisture levels and optimizing irrigation practices, resulting in a 20% reduction in water usage while maintaining crop yield.
Furthermore, nanotechnology offers innovative solutions for nutrient management in agricultural soils. Nanoencapsulation techniques allow controlled release of fertilizers, minimizing nutrient leaching and improving nutrient uptake by plants (Lal et al., 2019). In a case study by Johnson et al. (2020), the application of nanoencapsulated fertilizers resulted in a 15% increase in nutrient use efficiency and a reduction in fertilizer runoff by 30%, thus improving soil health and reducing environmental pollution.
Moreover, nanomaterials exhibit high sorption and catalytic properties, enabling efficient removal of heavy metal contaminants and organic pollutants from soils, thus mitigating soil contamination risks (Wang et al., 2022). A case study conducted by Chen et al. (2019) demonstrated the successful remediation of a heavily contaminated soil site using iron oxide nanoparticles, resulting in a significant reduction in heavy metal concentrations and improvement in soil health indicators.

The demand for alternative energy sources is on the rise as a result of global apprehensions regarding the swift exhaustion of fossil fuels, escalating energy usage, and significant environmental challenges (Lijó et al. 2019). Microalgae are regarded as highly favorable raw materials for upcoming energy sources, thanks to their various advantages, including rapid growth rates, elevated lipid contents and resistance to a variation of pH, temperature, light intensity, and salinity (Goswami et al. 2022; Zhang et al. 2022; Wang et al. 2019; Das et al. 2011). As per a recent evaluation of the lipid production efficiency of microalgae biomass, numerous nations could derive their transport fuel (~30%) from microalgae biomass grown on non-agricultural areas (Moody et al. 2014). Apart from their higher lipid production efficiency in contrast to earthly raw materials, microalgae consist of lipids, polysaccharides, pigments, proteins, and nucleic acids, making them versatile raw materials for a range of finalized outcomes, including nutrients, pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and bioplastics (Tang et al. 2020; Kim et al. 2016; Moody et al. 2014; Sharma et al. 2011). Additionally, microalgae are appealing for their efficient sequestration of CO2 during photosynthetic growth (Vargas-Estrada et al. 2020). In contrast to landbased oilseeds, microalgae can be cultivated in freshwater and contaminated or saline locations, eliminating the requirement for substantial nitrogen fertilizer application (Sharma et al. 2022; Rashid et al. 2019; Lam and Lee 2012). The positive attributes of microalgae as raw materials have prompted substantial research endeavours aimed at the commercialization of microalgal biofuels. Regrettably, microalgal biorefineries continue to encounter various technological and economic challenges (Khoo et al. 2020). In essence, nanotechnology involves the invention, creation, and utilization of resources at the nanoscale. Precisely, nanomaterials engineering explores the synthesis and designing of artificial or adorned nanoparticles to drive technological progress and enable applications that would otherwise be impractical. Nanomaterials possess surface areas hundreds of times greater than their weights, significantly enhancing their physico-chemical attributes (Husen and Siddiqi 2014; López-Serrano et al. 2014). Currently, nanotechnology-driven developments, with diverse potential features, have emerged as a burgeoning trend in various industries, including drug delivery, food industry, catalysis, coatings, agriculture, bioremediation, cosmetics, and materials science (Malik et al. 2023). Nanoparticle engineering offers practical and potential solutions to address the problems that arise at different phases of the microalgal biorefinery procedure. For instance, diverse nanomaterials have been proposed as ways to enhance transformation efficacy and the quality of green diesel. The distinctive capabilities of nanoscience and nanomaterial engineering exert a substantial impact on the commercial feasibility of microalgae derived products, including bioactive compounds, oils, lipids, and biofuels (Kumar et al. 2020; Milano et al. 2016). Nanoparticles have the capacity to boost intracellular fatty acid synthesis and complete microalgal biomass, leading to substantial reductions in production expenses. The presence of nanomaterials enhances the efficiency and speed of the microalgae harvesting, and the recoverability and reusability of these materials contribute to improved production efficiency.

INTRODUCTION

Natural resources are the untamed natural essence of the environment which contain a significant amount of material as well as aesthetic values. Natural resources are broadly categorized into renewable, flow and non-renewable sources. While renewable natural resources primarily involve living sources such as forests, crops fish, reindeer, coffee, etc. and non-living sources like water and soil. Natural resource management refers to the management of natural resources such as land, water, soil, plants and animals, with a particular focus on how management affects the quality of life for both present and future generations. Natural resource management is congruent with the concept of sustainable development. It is a scientific principle that forms a basis for sustainable global land management and environmental governance to conserve and preserve natural resources (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 2009). Though forest, water, agriculture land and crops, minerals, livestocks and many more constitute natural resources in India but forest represents the second-largest land use in India after agriculture, covering about 641,130 square kilometers, or 22 percent of the total land base (FAO 2005). Forestry is the second largest land use after agriculture and accounts for about 1.5 % of the nation’s GDP (World Bank, 2006) in India. On one hand, forests support the livelihood of the poor, especially the tribals, and on the other hand, it is remarkable to see that the poorest people of our country live in the rich forest and natural resource base (Narain, 2008).

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as one of the most alarming public health challenges of the 21st century, threatening the effectiveness of life-saving drugs and the future of modern medicine. This crisis is not limited to healthcare settings; it spans communities, agriculture, and the environment, impacting every facet of society. India, with its large population, high burden of infectious diseases, unregulated access to antibiotics, and considerable pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, stands at the forefront of the global struggle against AMR. The rise of resistant microbes stems from a complex interplay of factors: overuse and misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals, poor infection prevention practices, lack of sanitation, and environmental contamination from antibiotic waste. As a result, common infections are becoming harder to treat, surgical procedures riskier, and healthcare costs are escalating, all leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Tackling AMR requires robust intersectoral collaboration—no single stakeholder can succeed alone. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), industries, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives form a critical triad in India’s fight against AMR. NGOs drive grassroots education, advocacy, surveillance, and policy change, often bridging gaps where governmental capacity is limited. The pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, responsible for antibiotic manufacturing, distribution, stewardship, and infection control, play a pivotal role in curbing environmental emissions, supporting responsible use, and promoting the discovery of new treatments. Meanwhile, CSR channels the resources and expertise of corporations towards sustainable, communityfacing projects that promote awareness, improve hygiene, foster stewardship, and drive systemic change.

3.1 Introduction

Internet of Things (IoT) allows computational devices and sensory support to connect with each other and access services on the Internet. The IoT idea was introduced to connect devices through the Internet and facilitate access to information for users. The potential application of IoT includes agriculture. The aim of this chapter is to explain the role of NodeMCU in the agriculture field. NodeMCU is IoT module which can be used to present the IoT concept as a basis for monitoring and control. The systems used in farm production processes. NodeMCU play a key role, with a focus on their realization by available microcontroller platforms and appropriate sensors. IoT based system provides opportunity to users to monitor and control the process remotely.

Water is a critical input for agricultural production and plays an important role in food security. Irrigated agriculture represents 20% of the total cultivated land and contributes 40% of the total food produced worldwide. Irrigated agriculture is, on average, at least twice as productive per unit of land as rainfed agriculture, thereby allowing for more production intensification and crop diversification. India has 18% of world’s population, having 4% of the world’s fresh water, out of which 80% is used in agriculture. India receives an average of 4000 billion cubic meters of precipitation every year. However, only 48% of it is used in India’s surface and groundwater bodies. In India, more than 60% population is still dependent directly or indirectly on agriculture. Most of the available water (more than 90%) is used in agriculture. From 1951 to 1997, gross irrigated areas expanded fourfold from 23 million ha to over 90 million ha, and irrigation continues to be the largest water user. The water availability in India is going to be worse as the agriculture-important states like Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan are facing a steady fall in underground water table, and per capita availability of water fall from 3450 cubic meter (1951) to 1250 cubic meter (1999).

In most developing nations, the primary method of managing insect pests on various crops is by synthetic insecticides. One of the fastest and most efficient ways to reduce insect populations is by chemical control where a farmer quickly achieves extraordinary results.

However, overusing pesticides indiscriminately and without proper research for longer periods of time led to a number of issues, including the risk of environmental contamination, loss of biodiversity, development of insecticide resistant pest populations, resurgence, outbreaks of secondary pests, increase in chemical inputs, toxicological hazards due to accumulation of pesticide residues in the food chain, etc.

Nutrients play a fundamental role in ensuring the health, productivity, reproduction, immunity, and overall welfare of animals. The balance and availability of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and water are crucial for optimal physiological and metabolic processes. This chapter explores the role of nutrients in different aspects of animal health and well-being.

Carbohydrates are the primary energy source for most animals, playing a critical role in sustaining metabolic processes, maintaining body temperature, and supporting physical activity. In ruminants, carbohydrates are fermented in the rumen to produce volatile fatty acids (VFAs) such as acetate, propionate and butyrate, which serve as energy substrates.
Health: Adequate carbohydrate intake prevents energy deficits, which can lead to ketosis, fatty liver, or hypoglycemia, particularly in lactating animals. Production: Energy from carbohydrates drives milk production in dairy animals and growth in meat-producing species.
Reproduction: Insufficient carbohydrate availability can delay puberty, impair estrus cycles, and reduce fertility. Immunity: Energy deficits weaken immune responses, increasing susceptibility to infections.
Welfare: Optimal carbohydrate nutrition minimizes stress and supports natural behaviours like grazing or rumination.

There are number of internal and external factors that affect the production performance of animals, among which parasites and parasitism are major of concern constraints to animal’s productivity especially in tropical countries. Feed intake and nutrient requirements have been recognized for long time as an important parameter for determining the efficiency of animal production. Most of the parasitic infection in domestic animals is caused by gastrointestinal nematode, which may result in depression in appetite, impairment in GI functions, alteration in protein, energy and mineral metabolism and changes in water balance. Nutrition can affect the ability of the host to cope with the consequences of parasitism and to contain and eventually to overcome parasitism. Since it is proposed that the host gives priority to the reversal of the pathophysiological consequences of parasitism over other body functions, it is to be expected that improved nutrition will always lead to improved resilience. On the other hand, it is proposed that the function of growth, pregnancy and lactation are prioritized over the expression of immunity. Improved nutrition may affect the degree of expression of immunity during these phases and can thus influence the resilience and resistance of host to parasite infection.

Insights into environmental factors affecting fish distribution, migration, and spawning are derived from oceanographic data collected using advanced technologies such as satellites, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), and remote sensing. By integrating these data with fish population models, predictive capabilities are enhanced, enabling proactive management and conservation efforts. Despite technological advances, data gaps and the complexity of biological and environmental interactions pose challenges. Integrating big data and artificial intelligence offers promising opportunities to improve predictive accuracy, optimize real-time fishery management, and tackle sustainability challenges effectively. This article discusses the role of oceanographic data in predicting fish population dynamics, the technologies involved, and the challenges facing current models.

OECD in its report on ‘Education at a Glance 2013’ states that “Educational attainment is frequently used as a measure of human capital and the level of an Individual’s skills. The level of educational attainment is the percentage of population that has reached a certain level of education.
