Organized retailing is spreading and making its presence felt in different parts of the country. The share of organized retailing in the total retail sector is set to increase from about 2 % to 8 -10 % by 2010. The retail sector generates 6 % of total employment in India. The reasons behind the increase in growth of retailing is changing life styles of Indian consumers. The key factors that drive the growth of organized retailing are:

• Rising urbanization
• Growing economy
• Higher disposable incomes
• Growing consumerism
• Entry of national/international business houses into retailing
• Increasing nuclear families
• Changing number of educated and employed women population
• Media proliferation and rising awareness level
• Brand proliferation
• Traveling by the working groups of the society
• Popularity within working and studying bachelors for convenience food.

The largest category of retail businesses are specialized retailers selling food, and beverages from fixed retail outlets. The major formats of retailing are furnished in Table17.1.

Retained fetal membrane (RFM) in cow is a condition in which fetal membranes or placenta fail to separate and expelled by 12-24 hours after the birth of calf. It is a common in bovines and is usually associated with dystocia, abortion etc. Retained placenta in bovines predisposes the animal to uterine infection and thereby leads to infertility.

Term endotheliosis designates a variety of syndrome caused by a reticuloendothelial virus (REV). REV caused syndromes have been demonstrated world wide.

Etiology

Based on replication of the virus in chicken fibroblast cell culture, two strains are known: replication defective T strain and the non-defective A strain. The REV manifests three distinct diseases syndromes:

1.1 Introduction
The rural economy has greatly benefited from dairy farming. In rural India, milk has become a substantial source of revenue. Dairy products, including milk, are vital components of modern diets. India holds the title of being the greatest milk producer and consumer globally. Together with native cattle, crossbred cattle, and water buffalo, it also has the biggest dairy herd. Since 2000, there has been a steady and substantial annual growth rate of 4.2 percent in both milk production and consumption. Additionally, second, respectively, in terms of population (GoI, 2014). It accounts for around 25% of the global bovine population. India has emerged as the leading global producer of milk, with a remarkable production of over 155.5 million tonnes during the 2015- 16 period. This translates to a per capita availability of 337 grammes per day, according to the Government of India (GoI, 2017). Dairy farming serves as a primary means of subsistence for more than 100 million individuals. A significant percentage of small-scale livestock keepers lack access to land, and the prevalence of rural landless households is expected to rise due to the continued subdivision of land holdings. Livestock are increasingly vital for the income of smallholder and landless farmers. These initiatives have positively impacted the farmers’ food production, nutrition security, and household income. Additionally, they have played a crucial role in creating employment opportunities in rural areas.

Introduction

The resource conservation technologies (RCTs) is primarily focussed on resource savings through minimal tillage, ensuring soil nutrients and moisture conservation through crop residues and growth of cover crops, and adoption of spatial and temporal crop sequencing. These practices have long been practised by the farmers in the Indo Gangetic Plains (IGP) but it got eroded in recent times due to various geo-socio economic- political reasons. This region (10.5 million ha) comprises of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal and have major share in production of rice and wheat due to adoption of green revolution technologies followed by area expansion. It has been reported that rice-wheat system has strained the natural resources of this region (Swarup and Singh, 1989; Kumar and Yadav, 1993; Lal et al., 2004). In present scenario there is little scope to meet future target by earlier approaches like area expansion and intensive use of natural resources. Therefore, RCTs can be regarded as energy, water and labour efficient system to sustain soil health and production environment and produce more at less cost (Jat et al., 2012; Gathala et al., 2011b).

Major emphasis is given upon the RCTs components like zero/reduced tillage, direct seeded rice, crop residue management and crop diversification. However, other RCTs like site specific nutrient management, leaf colour chart, laser land leveller, nutrient use efficient genotypes, integrated crop and pest management provide options to the farmers as per their resource endowment.

Retrospection

India is a unique country in the world with many religions and cultural diversity. Indian culture has been continuing through the ages because of its adjustability with others and openness. Unity in diversity is one of the major characteristics of Indian culture. It is a diverse nation where people of many religions live together peacefully. Religion in India is characterized by the diversity of religious beliefs and practices. In Indian history, religion has played an important role in the cultural set up of the country.

Hinduism is the main Indian religion and considered as a universal order, a way of life which is followed by the people. The origin for Hinduism is very old having no exact date of its inception. This is a belief and practices followed by people through the ages and considered as a process of humanity. The earliest known sacred text of Hinduism is ‘Vedas’ which dates back to at least 3000 BCE. However, it is believed that these texts are of divine origin and timeless. Hinduism was more philosophically and theoretically described in Upanishads, written roughly between 800 and 400 BCE. The Mahabharata and Bhagavad-Gita are other best-known book and widely cited on Hinduism. The Ramayana is the other most important epic book on Hinduism which teaches about life, principles, duty, justice etc. through the life-story of Rama.

Dasharatha was a great Hindu king of the Kosala kingdom and Ayodhya was the capital from where He ruled. He was the son of King Aja of Kosala and Queen Indumati of Vidarbha. Dasharatha had three primary queens namely - Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi. Unfortunately, the King had no sons to continue his dynasty after him. Despaired Dasharatha summoned Rishyashringa, a forest rishi for a ritual to fulfill his desire of have sons. By that way, the King had four sons. Queen Kaushalya gave birth Rama and similarly, Kaikeyi gave birth Bharata and Sumitra gave birth two sons, namely - Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Lakshmana was very much attached and devoted to Rama while Shatrughna was devoted to Bharata.

In spite of big potential of the largest livestock population in the world, meat industry in India is still in nascent stage. It is a business of those who are not trained and very much literate. The industry is primarily based on the raw material that is not reared for meat purpose but serves the secondary role after passing their viable life in primary field. The industry is also facing problem of social prejudice and meat is taboo for certain communities. But scenario is now changing and people are coming forward to organise the sector. Now the society is accepting the facts that meat is an only source of cheap and nutritious food to million of people in India and the good source of animal protein for large segment of Indian population, particularly landless, small and marginal farmers.

India ranks fifth in the world meat production with the annual meat production of about 6.3 million tones which is 2.21% percent of world meat production. In the last two decades meat industry in India has grown @ 4.5% whereas, during the last five years, this segment has been growing very fast at the rate of 27% annually. It has a good future if given proper attention by the Government and Private Entrepreneurs. In total meat production, share of cattle is 17.34%, buffalo 23.3%, sheep 4.6%, goat 9.4%, pigs 5.3%, poultry 36.6% and others 3.4%. The share of various meat types in total Indian meat production accounts buffalo meat 1.5 million tones, beef 1.28 million tones, mutton 0.24 million tones, chevon 0.53 million tones, pork 0.50 million tones, chicken meat 2.20 million tones and duck meat 0.07 million tones. To produce the above quantities, the extraction or slaughter rates in cattle are about 7.9%, buffaloes 11.1%, sheep 47.9%, goat 37.9%, pigs 88.9% and poultry 73.6%. In the world total meat production Indian cattle meat shares 13.1%, buffalo meat 55.8%, mutton 5.7% and chevon 14.9%. However, India is having world’s 15.0% (210 million) cattle, 57.0 %( 111 million) buffaloes, 7.0 %( 74 million) sheep, 17.0 %( 154 million) goat and 1.5% pigs. Overall contribution of meat sector in total output of Livestock sector was Rs 25984 crores in the year 2004-2005.

What are Retrotransposons?

The presence of mobile elements, capable of moving from one region of the genome to another, has been known and thoroughly studied since the 1950’s. These elements are capable of exciding and inserting themselves from one region of the chromatin to another, through their peculiar terminal repeat regions. This process is mediated by enzymes encoded by the transposon itself.

Retrotransposons are a class of mobile elements, widespread in plant genomes, where they account for a significant part of noncoding DNA. Barley, for example, contains thousands of copies of the Bare-1 element, dispersed throughout the euchromatic regions of chromosomes and exhibiting sequence identity higher than 95% to each other.

Unlike other classes of mobile elements, retrotransposons insert into the genome via an RNA intermediate, synthesized by their own reverse transcriptase, without the loss of the parental copy. Unique sequence properties show that retrotransposons of the Ty1-copia group are close to retroviruses, and their mode of integration in the host genome is also very similar.

The number and exact point of insertion of retrotransposons may differ from one individual to another and this can be exploited to characterize individuals, varieties or species, depending on how recent the transpositional event is. Furthermore, insertion of a retrotransposon is an irreversible event, a characteristic that can be helpful when tracing an ancestry.

EDUCATION SYSTEM IN INDIA

India consists of 28 states, 6 union territories and a national capital territory having a rich and diverse culture spanning many years. The Constitution of India distributed the powers between the Union and the States in three lists such as Union list, State list and Concurrent list. Education is in the Concurrent List. Under the State list, state governments are exclusively responsible for education in their respective states. Union government is responsible for maintaining national and integrative character of education under the Union list. But both state and central government share responsibility for education in case of partnership under the Concurrent list.

Revelation
The structure and functioning of Indian agriculture have undergone significant transformation, primarily driven by the forces of commercialisation and increasing reliance on trade. These changes have been influenced by a range of both visible and subtle shifts in the sector. Among these, crop diversification and the implementation of trade liberalisation policies have played the most prominent roles in reshaping agricultural dynamics.
One of the critical challenges repeatedly highlighted by agricultural experts is the small size of landholdings in India. this structural limitation has left many Indian farmers unable to compete with the large-scale mechanised farming systems prevalent in Western countries. In light of this, land consolidation is becoming increasingly essential for improving competitiveness and sustainability. Despite various policy interventions and efforts by nongovernmental organizations aimed at curbing rural out migrations, including generating programs and measures, have largely failed. The primary reason lies in the breakdown of forward and backward linkages within the farming ecosystem. Key services such as mechanisation, farm advisory support, critical input supply and access to profitable markets remain inefficient and poorly coordinated. In this context, contract farming emerges as a promising solution. By establishing structured agreements between smallholders and agribusinesses, contract farming strengthens market linkages and provides access to essential resources and management support. Typically, these agreements cover three core areas: market access, resource provision and management services.
When implemented effectively, contract farming can offer long-term benefits for both farmers and buyers. Most importantly, it supports the welfare of smallholder farmers by addressing multiple dimensions of poverty, not just income-based poverty, but also by creating sustainable employment opportunities and improving market access. Against this background, the present study has undertaken to explore the perceived effects of contract farming on employment generation and poverty reduction.

The chapter focuses on presenting the outcomes and analysis of the research, aiming to offer ample information for reaching accurate conclusions. Within this chapter, tables and models are frequently employed to reinforce the textual content. The discussion section plays a crucial role in interpreting the research results appropriately and establishing connections with other pertinent studies.

The distribution characteristics of the variable Age (x1 ) reveals that the respondents’ ages range from a minimum of 27 to a maximum of 71. The average age is 48.675, suggesting that the majority of respondents fall into the middle-age category. The standard deviation is 11.574, indicating the degree of variability in the ages. Furthermore, the coefficient of variance (CV) is 23.779 percent, indicating a high level of consistency in the distribution pattern of the variable.

The distribution pattern of the variable Family size (x3 ) shows that the family size ranges from a minimum person of 3 to a maximum of 10 persons. The average family size is 10.125 persons. The standard deviation is 1.397. The coefficient of variance (CV) is 23.882 percent which indicates a high level of consistency in the distribution pattern of the variable.

Introduction
It has been universally acknowledged that breeding for hybrids is the most effective conventional plant breeding technique. When two genetically distinct parent lines typically inbred lines are crossed, the resultant progeny is referred as a hybrid. It has been demonstrated that hybrids are larger, more productive, and hardier than their parental lineages. When we talk about hybrids, it is also imperative to understand two other related jargons: heterosis and hybrid vigour. The word “heterosis” was first coined in 1914 by Gottingen to refer the hybridization process in which two homozygous individuals (inbreds) are crossed to produce a hybrid. Darwin first used the phrase “hybrid vigour” in 1876 to denote the superiority of the F1 offspring produced by heterosis (i.e., the hybrids show superior performance with increased characteristics when compared with the two parental lines).
In general, the goal of plant breeding is to create better crop varieties by utilizing genetic variation found in the germplasm of the given plant species. Traditionally, two genetically different accessions of the given crop were selected and crossed to produce a hybrid. The genotype of this hybrid is the outcome of the fusion of the male and female gametes, those produced a zygote, from which the progeny eventually emerged. It would be appropriate to recollect the point that a plant’s life cycle consists of a gametophytic generation that produces gametes. Therefore, the genotypes of the gametophytes reflect the genetic diversity of the gametes.
Gametophytes are derived from spores, which are created via sporophytic reproduction during the course of the plant’s life cycle. Meiosis is a specialized kind of cell division that produces spores from differentiated cells that are located in the reproductive organs of plants. Two important processes (viz., recombination and chromosomal segregation) occur during meiosis and this results into independent assortment and creation of novel combinations of the genetic components of a diploid genome into a haploid genome of the gametophytes. Consequently, the genotype of a progeny is made up of the genotypes of the male and the female gametes that merged to create a new sporophyte. Therefore, meiosis can be viewed as a crucial stage in the life cycle of a plant and is responsible for generating genetic diversity. To generate desired plants with novel traits, this diversity or variability is frequently employed. In many cases, a hybrid plant outperforms a homozygous (parental) plant because it combines the best traits of the two parents. However, the creation of such hybrids is quite difficult. In order to evaluate the combining ability of hybrids, multiple putative parental lines are first produced at homozygous conditions by employing several generations of inbreeding and selection. The best pairs are then kept, and the corresponding parental lines produce a vigorous hybrid. Although hybrids were originally generated in maize during the 1930s, they are now employed in a wide variety of economically important plant species because they significantly surpass their parental inbreds. The main reason quoted for the wide-spread application of hybridization in breeding programs is because of the reason that hybrid seeds are easier and faster to growing homogenous plants

As direct references on all the item are not in abundance, certain specific references along with some indirect references have been incorporated in this chapter for the purpose of meaningful use.

Review of literature has been organized with a view to provide hard evidences as to clinically justify the reasons, logic, and contemplation leading to heuristically infer the different echelons of resilience issues.This is also catered to isolate the apparently less attempted genre of resilience study and analysis. Climate change, uncertainty, decline of soil organic carbon, fatigued genes on land, loss of biodiversity and fragile ecology of society have only been some of myriad of factors causing the loss of resilience, from ecology and from society as well.

Farmers require a diverse range of information to support their farm enterprises. Information is needed not only on best practices and technologies for crop production, but also for post -harvest aspects. Agricultural Extension is an essential pillar for research and development in agriculture. Despite a wide range of reform initiatives in agricultural extension in India in the past decades, the coverage of, access to, and quality of information   provided to marginalized and poor farmers is uneven. Approaches to agricultural extension in India and worldwide continue to evolve.

A brief description of IGMC is given in Para 6.6 with details of the canal sections. Here an attempt is made to review the hydraulic performance of the Main Canal.

7B.1 Study of Flow Characteristic of the Main Canal

The main canal is designed for a maximum discharge of 524 m3/s at head i.e. at Km. 0. Large of number of branches, distributaries and minors off take from the main canal at different location all along the canal. These are shown in the L- section, Figure 7B.1 and a statement off taking canals is given Table 7B.1. Many distributaries such as lift canals have been planned subsequently. Also discharges of few off taking channels have been changed. A clear and updated data are not readily available. So data available are indicated in the Table and plotted in the L - section. A half bottom plan of the canal is also shown in Figure 7B.2

In recent years, there has been a considerable interest in the new technological interventions for enhanced livestock productivity in the Indian sub-continent, because of the increased demand for livestock products for human consumption. Bypass nutrients defined as a nutrients fed in such a form that provides an increase in the flow of the nutrient (s) unchanged to the abomasum, yet is available to the more important nutrient (high BV) should escape from the rumen or face minimum ruminal fermentation. The reasons for protecting different nutrients are based on their mode of utilization in the rumen. The literature on the effect of the bypass fat and protein on nutrient utilization, milk production and reproductive performance has been reviewed and presented in following subheads

Cyanobacteria have been identified as one of the most promising groups of organisms from which novel and biochemically active natural products are isolated. Cyanobacteria such as Microcystis, Anabaena, Nostoc and Oscillatoria produce a great variety of secondary metabolites. The only group comparable to cyanobacteria is actinomycetes, which has yielded a tremendous number of secondary metabolites. The rate of discovery from traditional microbial drug producer like actinomycetes, which is in the focus of pharmaceutical research for decades, is decreasing and it is the time to turn to cyanobacteria and exploit their potential. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in cyanobacteria as a potential source of new drugs (Glombitza and Koch, 1989; Schwartz et al., 1990). This is of paramount importance to fight increasingly resistant pathogens and newly emergent diseases (Hayashi et al., 1994).

Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic microorganisms that have flourished on earth for more than 3 billion years with some genera showing only minor morphological changes since that time (Hagmann and Juttner, 1996). The medicinal and nutrient qualities of cyanobacteria were first appreciated as early as 1500 BC, when Nostoc species were used to treat gout, fistula and several forms of cancer (Pietra, 1990; Bladon, 2002; Liu and Chen, 2003).

It is an organized set up to provide micro credit to the rural women on the strength of the group savings without insisting on any collateral security for the purpose of encouraging them to enter in to entrepreneurial activities and for making them enterprising women (Gurumoorthy, 2000).

Puhanzhendi and Badatya (2002) find that the SHG programme has a positive social impact.

Rajamohan (2003) stated that SHG is a medium for the development of saving habit among the women.

Jeyasudha (2004) reported that eradication of poverty and the ushering in of speedy socioeconomic progress is the goal with which the developmental programmes are being implemented through a multipronged strategy, reaching out to the most disadvantaged sections of the society. She placed the concept of rural development at the top of agenda in national policies of developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. The developed countries have also recognized this need and have directed their efforts towards meeting the basic needs of the poorest people in developing countries.

2.1. Introduction

There are few studies on the performance and efficiency of Indian commodity derivatives market. Despite a considerable amount of empirical literature, there is no general consensus on whether or not the markets are efficient. As far as the role of futures contract in agricultural commodity is concerned, several studies have been attempted to examine their contribution towards agricultural development of any state and/or country. This chapter presents the review of existing literature on the concerned topic based on interrelationship among the spot and futures market in agricultural sector, role of futures market in discovering spot prices, futures market and commodity price volatility etc.

The journey through the research work and the resultant publication of research articles, review notes and books by innumerable authors in the field of Information Technology, and Communication, Library Sciences, Social Media and Popular Culture has been the basis for this chapter: The Review of Literature. The following is a report of how and what lead to arrive at the objectives, hypotheses and methods of researching this field and the concerns of the researchers and the authors. Reading innumerable articles, research papers, and books helped in writing this literature review strengthened the knowledge about the topic of this study. It has been of immense use to learn essential concepts, research methods, and experimental techniques used in this field. Another benefit of the extensive reading of relevant literature has been the knowledge and understanding of how to present the insights, research findings, and claims discussed and explained scientifically and systematically. Through this reading exercise, the topic of the research and its objectives were finalized. 

Hausman (1920a) worked on the microscopic structure of hair from the commercial fur. The hair samples of 27 different species of animals were used for the study. He described in detail the structural features of guard hair. He classified medulla of hair into 4 different types as discontinuous, continuous, fragmental and interrupted on the basis of composition of medullar cells. He also classified the cuticular scale pattern into two types as imbricate interrupted and imbricate coronal. He mentioned in detail the methods for the preparation of slides for the study of microscopic structures of hair. He also studied the cortex and pigment granules.

Introduction

This chapter reviews literature related to the current study on Quality of Work Life (QWL). Scrutiny of the available literature is of great value in gaining insight into the research problem. It is beneficial for strengthening the research problem. As there are fewer studies on QWL in the university libraries in Kerala, the works reported in other places were also reviewed. Hence, the available studies related to the topic are exhaustively reviewed. The review covers studies on the subject made at the regional, national, and international levels.

Research being a continuous process for a scientific study, previous study provides basis for the research. The review of literature is necessary for developing conceptual frame work and suitable design for the study. It assists the researcher to keep his work going in right direction. The available literature related to the present study has been reviewed under the following heading:

2.1 Differential role accomplished by women dairy farmers from different social strata

Toppo et al. (2004) examined the participation of women farmers in dairy occupation in Anand district of Gujarat and their result revealed that 18.34 percent of the farm women were mostly engaged in activities related to artificial insemination, majority of the respondent (68.34%) participated in cleaning of the shed, while 25.00 percent of the farm women practised manure preparation and 95.00 percent of the respondent were not involved in preparation of gobar gas mixture.

Badole (2006) reported that majority of the responded had low socio-economic status.

A Literature Review is a systematic and comprehensive analysis of books, articles and research papers to a specific topic providing a base of knowledge on the topic. Literature reviews are designed to identify and critique the existing literature on a topic to justify your research by exposing gaps in current research. This investigation should provide a description, summary, and critical evaluation of works related to the research problem and should also add to the overall knowledge of the topic as well as demonstrating how your research will fit within a larger field of study. A literature review should offer critical analysis of the current research on a topic and that analysis should direct your research objective. This should not be confused with a book review or an annotated bibliography both research tools but very different in purpose and scope. Key to a good Literature Review is to document your process.

The systematic identification, evaluation, and integration of the body of published work produced by researchers, scholars, and practitioners is achieved through a rigorous and repeatable method called the review of the literature. It acts as a comprehensive resource, incorporating the most recent information, important discoveries, and theoretical breakthroughs linked to a certain field. The literature review is a useful compilation of important discoveries as well as methodological and theoretical contributions within a certain topic that is frequently seen in academic and scholarly journals.

In all academic areas, the review of literature is a crucial component of research. Its main goal is to assess, evaluate, and make links between our findings and previous research on a particular subject of interest. The publication of “Flora of British India” by Hooker (1872-1897) was followed by a series of regional floras by Cooke (1901-08) for Bombay presidency; Prawn (1903) for Bengal: Duthie (completed by Parker & Turrill, 1905-29) for upper gangetic plains and adjacent Siwalik and of sub Himalayan tracts; Kanjilal (1966) for the forest flora of Uttar Pradesh; Gamble (completed by Fisher, 1915-1936) for Presidency of Madras; Haines (1921-1925) for Bihar and Orissa: and Kanji et al (1934-1940) for Assam. Duthie’s work was completed by Raizada and associates (Raizada, 1954, Raizada et al. 1961; 1983; Raizada & Jain, 1964, 1966). Later, Raizada (1976) brought together all additions made to Duthie Flora. However, the trends of additions has persisted afterwards and is hoped to continue onwards as well. Revision of old floras has become all the more important because the nomenclature of a large number of species has changed in accordance with International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (1956, 1961, 1966, 1972, 1978 & 1983).

This chapter reviews the research work done in the fields related to the objectives of the study. In any scientific investigation or research a comprehensive review of relevant literature is very essential. Its main function apart from determining the work done before concerning the problem area i.e. area of investigation, it provides an insight into the methods and procedures and create a basis for interpretation of findings. As direct references on all the item are not in abundance, certain specific references along with some indirect references have been incorporated this chapter for the purpose of meaningful use.
2.1. Ecosystem Services and Conservation Agriculture
Acharya, S. K. and Chatterjee, R. (2019) found that conservation agriculture may help in re-building agro-ecology by maintaining carbon sequestration, maintaining soil health, checking soil erosion and ground water depletion, energy balance, mitigating climate change related problems through maintaining ecosystem services.
Ayyam, V., Palanivel, S., and Chandrakasan, S. (2019) stated that CA embraces higher rates of carbon sequestration, organic matter accumulation, soil erosion reduction, and its associated improvement in soil biological properties. Additionally, there is reduction in greenhouse gas emission as a result of CA. Adoption of CA-based farming practices particularly in areas facing notable land degradation and depleting natural resources delineates a win-win scenario due to improved crop yield and trends of increasing soil fertility and scope for climate change adaptation to recuperate degraded soils and improve ecosystem services.

A literature review is an organized, in-depth examination of books, journals, and research papers related to a particular subject that serves as a foundation of knowledge. By pointing out gaps in the present body of knowledge, literature reviews aim to identify and evaluate the body of existing research on a certain subject in order to support your own study. This inquiry needs to include an explanation, synopsis, and critical assessment of previous studies pertaining to the research challenge. It should also contribute to the body of knowledge on the subject and show how your findings will fit into a broader body of knowledge. Your research goal should be guided by the critical examination of the most recent research on the subject provided by a literature review. This is not the same as a book review or an annotated bibliography, which are research instruments with quite distinct goals and purposes. Writing a process document is essential to a successful literature review.
Purpose
A literature review’s objectives are to:
• Offer a solid foundation of information on the subject.
• Locate areas of earlier study to avoid repetition and to acknowledge the contributions of other experts.
• Determine the need for further research (include evidence to support your findings).
• Determine how one piece relates to the other and to the theme in the context of both.
• Set your own research in the framework of previously published works that argue for the necessity for further research.

The review of literature consists of conceptual literature concerning the concepts and theories and empirical literature consisting of studies made earlier which are relevant to one proposal.
The main purpose of this chapter is to present some of the findings/ results of the past research studies related to the present investigation. FAO, Rome (2011) stated a major factor limiting the food security of household in hill areas is shortage of land for cultivation which are simply too small to support the farmers with current food production practices. Closing the yield gap will produce food production and security.
Alkan S. and Toksoy D. (2008) indicates that the forest villages which are at the high altitude and on the field that are not suitable for agriculture. This complicates living in them and increases their dependence to the forest resources. While determining the forest villages, the distance from the forest, and the socio-economic criterions are considered.
Tejada E. and Nielsen M.O. (2008) stated that the harsh eco-climatic and edaphological conditions of the High Altitude of Bolivia adversely impact most of the agricultural and livestock production indices. However, livestock activity, in addition to dealing with the subsistence of rural families, offers more security than the agricultural activity in those eco-systems, since crops are more vulnerable than animals to abrupt climatic changes.

The purpose of the study is to gather and use pertinent data to further the primary goalsof the investigation. Any review of literature revolves around the work’s origin, author, chronology, and significant content that have an obvious impact on the current study. It begins with a history for gaining into posterity through current status.

A. Health, Hygiene and Nutrition of Rural Women
Imtiaz et al., 2014, conducted a descriptive cross- sectional study from March to June 2012 to evaluate the personal hygiene practices among rural women in a particular Bangladeshi community. In order to evaluate two fundamental aspects of personal hygiene, hand washing and access to clean drinking water, 150 women of varying ages were chosen from the villages of Garibpur and Tangurpur in Jessore district. A convenient non-probability sampling technique was used and data was gathered by face- to- face interview using semi-structured questionnaire. Among the respondents 87.33% had some form of schooling, 12.67% were illiterate. The majority of the participants almost 87.34% had washed their hands before eating, 13.74% before eating break fastand none of the respondents washed their hands before consuming any dry food. Themajority of the respondents almost 95.34% washed their hands after urinating; among them 82% used soaps, 16% used ash and 2% used earth. To lead a healthy- life it is crucial to practise good personal cleanliness and to utilise safe drinking water. They should be regularly inspired to do so through health education activities. Rao et al., 2012, carried out a study on Indian women’s diet and nutritional status. Women’s status in society has an impact on their health. Female infanticide, a higher death rate, a lower sex ratio, low literacy rates and a lower level of employment for women in the workforce are just a few examples of how the demographic consequences of women have manifested themselves. The degree of women’s nutritional status is influenced by the cultural norms, practices, and socio-economic consideration. Bureau of National Nutrition Monitoring has conducted periodical surveys on diet and nutritional status of various population groups since 1972.For the objective of this inquiry, information on the food and nutritional status of the tribal and rural population in nine Indian states was gathered in 1998-99 and 2005-06 respectively. Rural and tribal women consumed fewer calories overall than recommended, with the exception of various vegetables, roots and tuber. The study found that women who were pregnant or nursing had in sufficient nutritional intake, particularly a micronutrient shortage that is termed as hidden hunger. Nearly 4.9% of tribal women had a substantially greater prevalence of goitre. Tribal women suffer from under nourishment and have more prevalence of chronic energy in sufficiency than rural women.

Preserving plant materials in a dried form is not a new idea. It has been considered as an art for hundreds of years. Fragrant dried herbs were placed in Egyptian pyramids. Dry flower arrangements have been popular in Europe for several centuries. During 1700 A.D, the early American settlers used dry flowers to brighten their homes. Any plant material can be preserved for use as dry flowers (Al Pertuit, 2004). Though enormous work is being done in this field, most of the literature is published by horticulture amateurs. Scientific work in this area is less. However, a review of the research work done in dry flower technology is discussed in detail.

Ancient Sanskrit classics like the Rig Veda (C 3000-2000 BC), Ramayana (C 1200-1300 BC), Mahabharata (before the 4th Century BC), Shudraka (C 100 BC), Ashvagodha (C 100 AD), Kalidasa (C 400 AD), and Sarangdhara (C. 400 AD) all make mention of flowers and gardens (C 1200 AD)(Dadlani, 2021).In many nations around the world, growing flowers is one of the industries’ tactics. India began producing flowers a few years ago, and the industry is now one of the nation’s major areas for expansion and change. Both socially and economically, floriculture is very advantageous. The trade in cut flowers has grown dramatically recently, both domestically and internationally. The freshness of the flowers for a longer period of time without losing their aesthetic value is what gives a flower its attractiveness. There is a massive loss in the value of cut flowers along the marketing channel, which may be 50% of the farm’s worth (Bhattacharjee, 1999).

Himalaya represents an importantfocal point of botanical rich diversity, and homeofmanymedicinal plants known for their various therapeutic properties. Since ancient times, several plant species have been used as ethnomedicine, and only a few of these species have beenfully explored and validated scientifically. Today, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries are the fastest growing sectors that use botanical extracts to maintain the health and support integrity of the skin and other parts of human body.Peoplearedemandingcosmeceuticaladditivesfrommarket made from plants as herbal botanicals as these causes fewer or no side effects, and therefore, ethnomedicine are gaining immence importance for cosmetic and value added products development of natural origin. Human and animal skin is the largest covering of the body as it provide barrier to the internal cells ortissues,and protectthebodyfrominfections and toxic chemicals. Keeping in mind the importance of skin, investigations and literatures were consulted to document plants protectingskininfectionsfrom external environment.Thepotential high altitude plants ofHimalaya were screened outto be used inskin care and treatmentofvarious skin pathogens.Inthe presentcommunication, total 81 plants of 72 genera belonging to 40 families are presented that have ethnobotanicalapplicationinskin care and usages incuringskindiseases. This data will provide a base-line information for cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies for developmentof various new value-added products for human and animal health care.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is known for many biological activities including potent cardioprotective properties. Meta analysis of human data strongly correlated diminished plasma level of DHEA with hypertension and age related anomalies and has been in clinical trial for efficacies against CVDs and hypertension. It was isolated for the first time in 1934 by Butenandt and Dannenbaum, later in 1944 extracted from human plasma (Oka et al., 2007). It is a 3β-hydroxysteroid, metabolized from pregnenolone, secreted from cells of zonareticulata of adrenal gland. Age-related decline in serum DHEA and DHEA-S(sulphate) is found to be associated with number of diseases including cardiovascular diseases, insulin resistance, cancer etc. (Arlt et al., 1999). Besides, DHEA dilates arteries, modulate hypoxia-induced vasoconstriction by activating potassium channels through soluble guanylatecyclase (sGC) activation, (Oka et al., 2007) and enhance endothelial function in particular via increasing nitric oxide synthesis (Haixian et al., 2019), induced relaxation in high K+ -induced contraction in thoracic aorta of rat embryo (Ochi et al., 2018). However, DHEA has never been explored as a vasorelaxant in mesenteric vascular bed, the major resistance bed of the circulatory system as well as its contribution in blockade of VDCC as possible mechanism for vasorelaxation. To date, the physiological role of DHEA in systemic vascular tissue as a vasorelaxant remains largely unknown and its potential use in the treatment of hypertension in human still remain inconclusive due to the increase in the risk of hormone driven cancer (Clark et al, 2018). Hence, we have chosen to explore the potential of DHEA as a vasorelaxant in conduit blood vessels like aorta and resistance blood vessels like mesenteric artery and elucidation of possible mechanism of vasorelaxation. Further, we also wanted to test the hypothesis whether in-vivo treatment of hypertensive rats with proven traditional medicine with known efficacy and acceptability could restore the level of DHEA in animal model of hypertension so as to have the beneficial effect of DHEA but without any adverse effect from external administration.

Millets are essential grains that help developing nations in Asia and Africa’s semi-arid tropics, particularly India, Nigeria, and Niger, achieve food and nutrition security.They are grown on soils that are usually too weak for any other crop to grow. They can withstand drought, minimal fertiliser treatment, and temperature swings better than other cereal crops, and their short growing season makes them exceptional. Millets are all-season crops that can be grown all year and provide several security benefits (food, feed, health, nutrition, livelihood, and the environment), making them the most cost-effective agricultural security crop. Sorghum (Great millet), Bajra (Pearl millet), small millets such as Korra (Foxtail millet), Ragi (Finger millet), Kodo millet, Proso millet, Little millet and Barnyard millet are all important millet crops grown in India.

Furthermore, enhancing market linkages is critical to connect farmers with consumers and ensure fair prices for agricultural produce (African Development Bank, 2022). Developing efficient supply chains and reducing post-harvest losses can improve income prospects for farmers and attract more youth to the sector. Lastly, encouraging private sector involvement and investment in agriculture can accelerate growth and innovation. Public-private partnerships can create opportunities for technological advancements, value addition, and market expansion (Liu & Lee, 2018). Reviving the agricultural economy requires a collaborative effort involving governments, farmers, the private sector, and civil society. By addressing challenges, investing in modernization, and promoting sustainable practices, nations can create a thriving agricultural sector that contributes to food security, economic development, and environmental sustainability (Brown, 2021).

Automated feeding systems have significantly improved the efficiency and sustainability of aquaculture operations by ensuring precise feed distribution, reducing waste, and enhancing fish growth rates (Fig. 1). These systems integrate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and smart sensors to optimize feeding schedules and feed amounts based on fish behaviour, water quality, and environmental conditions.

In the face of a burgeoning global population, the imperative for robust advancements in food production, especially within the aquaculture industry, is more pressing than ever. The expansion of this industry necessitates a nuanced consideration of environmental, economic, and social factors underpinned by a commitment to sustainable development. However, the intensification of aquaculture, particularly in coastal regions, poses long-term environmental risks due to increased organic matter in water, demanding innovative solutions.

In recent decades, recirculating systems have emerged as a step toward sustainable aquaculture, offering an effective approach to control wastewater. High operating costs have hindered widespread adoption despite their potential, particularly in developing countries. Enter the need for a game-changing, cost effective, and environmentally friendly technology that resonates with farmers on a large scale. This is where the Biofloc system, or Biofloc technology (BFT), takes center stage. A beacon of cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and environmental friendliness, the BFT reduces water exchange to almost zero and slashes artificial feeding ratios. This revolutionary system enhances water quality and generates microbial protein for aquatic species, addressing critical challenges faced by the aquaculture industry.

Abstract
The growing need for sustainable fishing practices has increased attention to eco-friendly fishing technologies designed to minimize their environmental impact. These technologies focus primarily on reducing habitat destruction, bycatch and overfishing, which is essential for maintaining a balanced marine ecosystem. Traditional fishing methods such as bottom trawling and non-selective fishing practices have caused notable harm to the ecosystem, including the destruction of seabeds and accidental catches of non-targeted fish populations. Advancements in eco-friendly designs, such as turtle-excluding devices (TEDs) and bycatch reduction devices (BRDs), have crucially mitigated the bycatch of vulnerable species such as turtles and juvenile fish. Modifications in longlines, traps, and biodegradable nets have further reduced ecological damage. In addition, electronic innovations such as sound navigation and ranging (SONAR) system and Global Positioning System (GPS) enable precise fish targeting, reducing unwanted habitat damage. However, the transformation to eco-friendly technologies faces issues such as investments, lack of awareness and inadequate regulatory support. Government and international bodies play a vital role in promoting these technologies through various regulatory policies and frameworks. Further, fostering cooperation among the stakeholders and using innovations can ensure a future of sustainable fisheries, balancing ecosystem conservation with economic livelihoods.
