t TEST FOR SINGLE MEAN

A t-test is any statistical hypothesis test in which the test statistic follows a Student’s t distribution if the null hypothesis is supported. It can be used to determine if two sets of data are significantly different from each other, and is most commonly applied when the test statistic would follow a normal distribution if the value of a scaling term in the test statistic were known. When the scaling term is unknown and is replaced by an estimate based on the data, the test statistic (under certain conditions) follows a Student’s t distribution.

Comparison of two sample means  and assumed to have been obtained on the basis of random samples of sizes n₁ and n₂ from the same population which is assumed to be normal.

ABSTRACT

Trace Elements were analysed from water samples collected from bore wells from block 2, 5, 14, 26 and 29 at Neyveli Township. Lead Concentration has crossed the limit of ISI standard prescribed for drinking which is 0.100 ppm. Lead concentration in the order of 0.082 ppm at block 5 and 0.11 ppm in block 29 were observed. Cadmium concentration has also crossed the limit of ISI (0.010 ppm) for drinking purpose, which is 0.02 ppm in block 26. Chromium concentration has also crossed the permissible limit of ISI standards (0.05 ppm) for drinking, which is 0.098 ppm in Block 14.

The above elements when compared with ISI standards for drinking water have shown a slight increase in concentration of lead, cadmium & chromium. Concentration of lead in Neyveli basin may be attributed to basement geochemical sources influenced by physical and chemical weathering. High concentration of chromium and cadmium in the aquifer may be due to anthropogenic activity probably from effluents of closed briqueting & carbonization plant, which is due south of block 14.

The two-way ANOVA compares the mean differences between groups that have been split on two independent variables (called factors). The primary purpose of a two-way ANOVA is to understand if there is an interaction be- tween the two independent variables on the dependent variable. For example, you could use a two-way ANOVA to understand whether there is an interac- tion between gender and educational level on test anxiety amongst university students, where gender (males/females) and education level (undergraduate/ postgraduate) are your independent variables, and test anxiety is your depen- dent variable. Alternately, you may want to determine whether there is an in- teraction between physical activity level and gender on blood cholesterol con- centration in children, where physical activity (low/moderate/high) and gender (male/female) are your independent variables, and cholesterol concentration is your dependent variable.

The interaction term in a two-way ANOVA informs you whether the effect of one of your independent variables on the dependent variable is the same for all values of your other independent variable (and vice versa). For example, is the effect of gender (male/female) on test anxiety influenced by educational level (undergraduate/postgraduate)? There are several types of bunding, each with its unique features and benefits. Let’s explore the most common ones:
Contour Bunding
Contour bunding is a well-established soil conservation technique that involves constructing embankments along lines of equal elevation across sloping terrain. These structures, often equated with level terraces, are designed to intercept surface runoff, thereby reducing soil erosion and improving moisture retention in cultivated lands. Originating as a famine relief initiative in Maharashtra, India, contour bunding has since proven to be an effective and sustainable method for preserving agricultural productivity in hilly and semi-arid regions.
This practice is particularly suited to a wide range of permeable soils, including alluvial, red lateritic, shallow and medium black soils, as well as deep black cotton soils. However, challenges such as soil cracking in black cotton soils may compromise bund integrity, necessitating periodic repair and upkeep.

Terrace farming is a widely practiced agricultural method in India, particularly suited for hilly and mountainous areas. It involves shaping the landscape by carving out flat sections—known as terraces—into the slopes of hills or mountains. These levelled surfaces make it easier to cultivate otherwise steep and challenging terrain. This age-old technique, also known as step farming, creates a series of stepped platforms that resemble a staircase along the hillside. The approach is both practical and resourceful, allowing farmers to use sloped land efficiently for crop cultivation.
The primary motivation behind transforming large hill surfaces into terraces— despite the considerable labor it demands—is to control the rapid downhill flow of water that typically occurs in such regions. However, terrace farming comes with its own set of challenges. The soil on terraces often has limited water retentioncapability, and erosion can become more severe. Nutrients and soil particles tend to be washed away into rivers. In addition, if trees are cleared for farming, the land becomes vulnerable to landslides and mudslides during periods of heavy rainfall. Terrace farming is a prevalent agricultural practice in India, especially in regions characterized by hilly or mountainous topography. This method involves the creation of flat, horizontal plots—referred to as terraces—along the natural contours of slopes. These terraces transform steep, uneven land into cultivable platforms, making farming on such terrain more manageable and productive. Also known as step farming due to its resemblance to staircases carved into hillsides, this traditional technique is both efficient and adaptive. It enables the utilization of sloped land that would otherwise be unsuitable for agriculture. The primary reason for undertaking this labor-intensive process is to manage the rapid runoff of water common in elevated terrains. By interrupting the slope, terraces help slow water flow and reduce surface erosion. Nevertheless, terrace farming poses several challenges. The soil tends to have limited capacity to retain moisture, and erosion can still displace vital topsoil and nutrients. Furthermore, deforestation to create terraces can heighten the risk of landslides and mudflows during intense rainfall.

Abstract

Data pertaining to 1761 records on daily milk yield and 1416 milk samples for estimation of fat and SNF percent in Banni buffalo during the year 2008-10 were collected from the breeding tract under In-situ conservation project on Banni buffalo and utilized for present study. The overall means ± SE for daily milk yield was 09.86 ± 0.07 lit. The month-wise daily milk yield was observed highest in second month, followed by 1st (12.96 ± 0.19 lit), 3rd (12.73 ± 0.19 lit), 4th (11.66 ± 0.20 lit), 5th (10.81 ± 0.25 lit), 6th (09.77 ± 0.23 lit), 7th (08.58 ± 0.18 lit), 8th (07.26 ± 0.17 lit), 9th (06.15 ± 0.11 lit), 11th  (05.70 ± 0.10 lit), 10th (05.41 ± 0.09 lit), 12th (05.78 ± 0.08 lit) and 13th  (05.48 ± 0.63 lit) months of lactation. The data on milk constituents’ viz. fat and SNF percent was grouped according to the seasons of the year and morning – evening milking.

Abstract

Conventional wisdom holds that variability in rainfall represents a significant variability of agriculture production. But urbanization of the cities on one hand and climate change on theother hand areaffecting the agriculture. Surprisingly, there have been very few analyses exploring the link between rainfall variability and urbanization on agriculture production. Therefore an attempt is made in this paper to know the affect of rainfall variability and urbanisation on the cropping area. For this purposeNDVI analysis is carried out in the catchments of Osmansagar and Himayathsagar Reservoirs by using the medium to high spatial resolution multi spectral data provided by remote sensing satellites, such as Landsat TM, IRS-1C/1D LISS-III and IRS-P6 LISS-III has been used for the years1989, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2008 for Kharif season, 1975, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2003 and 2008 for rabi season which is collected from NRSC (National Remote Sensing Centre). From this analysis it is found that the increment is more in rabi season compared to kharif season due to the increment of non-monsoon rainfall intensities and ground water withdrawal structures. The increased utilization of the groundwater is causing the reduction of inflows to the reservoirs in the recent years because whatever the rainfall that occurs in the catchment, first utilised for meeting the depleted soil moisture and ground water consequently reducing the surface runoff.

ABSTRACT

In vitro culture and cryopreservation techniques are complementary to ex situ conservation of plant genetic resources that are vegetatively propagated or having recalcitrant seeds. An in vitro germplasm conservation study has been conducted on Banana passionfruit (Passiflora mollissima), a plant used in rural medicine. Micropropagated plants survived up to 12 weeks in Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 0.5% sucrose. Cryopreservation experiments were carried out on the explants (apical and/or axillary buds), pre-treated with vitrification solutions, dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and PVS2 (Plant vitrification solution-2) with or without desiccation treatment and frozen in liquid nitrogen (LN). The survival and regeneration of apical buds were higher than axillary buds when pre-treated with 15% DMSO. Treatment with 20 % PVS2 for 1 h followed by 100 % PVS2 for 20 min gave maximum shoot recovery (40%) from cryopreserved apical buds. Desiccation alone was not successful but combination of pre-treatment of PVS2 (20% for 1h and 100% for 20min) with 3 h desiccation gave 30% plant survival from frozen apical buds. Regenerated shoots were rooted on MS medium with 1.0 mgl-1 naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and 0.2 % activated charcoal.

Introduction

Cotton is a fiber crop of Malvaceous family. There are four cultivated species of cotton viz. Gossypium arboreum, G. herbaceum, G. hirsutum and G. barbadense out of which G. hirsutum is the predominant species contributing about 90% to the global production. In India all the above four cultivated species are grown on commercial scale as a kharif crop. India is the largest producer as well as consumer of cotton in the world. The major cotton growing states of India are Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and parts of Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka. In Odisha cotton cultivation is an up-coming activity. Many of the western belt farmers, mainly from Rayagada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nuapara districts have been taking cultivation of this cash crop. According to the report of Odisha economic survey, 2018-19 a total of 1.45 lakh ha area was cultivated in 2017-18 producing 3.65lakh bales of cotton. In Rayagada district cotton is cultivated in 9 blocks out of 11 blocks comprising an area of 35170 ha. For the year 2018-19 yield was 12.37 q/ha with production of 25.6 MT of cotton according to the data given by District agriculture office, Rayagada.

Every year, about 600 million tonnes of milk are produced by over 264million dairy cows across the world. The global average for milk output per cow is around 2,200 litres. The economy of India is mostly dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry, with milk production playing a significant role. It is also the world’s largest producer of buffalo milk (FAO, 2019).

Co-operative dairy sector proved to be resilient as it continued to procuremilk from farmers and supply it to the consumers despite several logistical and other challenges. Milk production in India did not show any sign of slowdown. Milk productionis anticipated to be around 209.96 million tonnes in 2020-21, an increase of about 6.3 percent over the previous year. The estimated per capita availability of milk is expected to increase to about 425 gms /day which is more than the world average of around 315gms/day(NDDB,2020).The dairy co-operatives had a difficult year due to an influx of more milk production, a reduction in milk sales, and the building of inventories of preserved goods. Throughout the year, milk procurement by dairy co-operatives increased as it accepted diverted extra milk from farmers that would otherwise be sold to private and unorganized businesses. During the 2020-21 budget year, milk procurement by dairy co-operativesincreased by 7.9 per cent. Indian dairy co operatives have installed milk processing capacity of 66.3million litters per day,73.3million liters/day in private sector enterprises, and 2.5 million litres per day in producer companies.

Any species that has been accidentally or purposely brought outside of its current range by humans is considered an introduced (or exotic) species (Kottelat and Whitten, 1996). According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), an alien species is considered invasive when it establishes itself in natural or semi-natural ecosystems or habitat, causes change, and endangers the biological diversity of the host species. These invasives encompass all classes of living things and are widely dispersed throughout the world's ecosystems (Raghubanshi et al., 2005). Numerous reasons led to the introduction of exotic fish species in various parts of the world: (a) increasing the potential for local fisheries and diversifying species in aquatic systems; (b) promoting sport fishing; (c) maintaining aquariums; and (d) managing undesired organisms like mosquitoes, etc. (Biju Kumar, 2000). Furthermore, floods and a variety of other factors may allow exotic fish imported into one nation to spread to its neighbors. According to Welcome (1988), 168 fish species from 37 families have been introduced worldwide outside of their native area. At least 67 of these species have established themselves in various bodies of water, with 27 of them turning out to be serious pests. Approximately 20 percent of freshwater fish species worldwide are either extinct or in danger of going extinct (Moyle and Leidy, 1992). Over time, the introduction of new species might prove to be a very harmful issue. Nyman (1991) stated that the introduction of alien species may cause the aquatic environment to undergo permanent alterations and perhaps cause the extinction of some species.

Automobiles constitute a major source of air pollution in the urban areas. Motor vehicle emissions result from fuel combustion or evaporation. The most common types of transport fuel are gasoline and diesel. CO₂ and water vapors are the main products of the combustion, emitted in vehicle exhaust. The major pollutants emitted from the vehicles are particulate matter (suspended fine and ultra fine), sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, carbon monoxide and metals.

Introduction
Temperature is one of the most important physical factors affecting microorganisms. Bacteria are different from higher plants and animals in the lack of homeostatic mechanism and cannot regulate heat generated by metabolism and are, therefore, directly and readily affected by temperature. Over a limited temperature range, there is a two-fold increase in the rate of enzyme catalyzed reaction for every 10°C rise in temperature.
Bacteria may be divided into three major groups with respect to their temperature requirements: (i) Psychrophiles, those with optimum temperature between 0°C and 20°C; (ii) Mesophiles, with optimum temperature between 20ºC and 40°C and (iii) Thermophiles, with optimum temperature between 40°C and 80°C. Thermophiles are of two types: (a) Facultative thermophiles with an optimum temperature of growth between 45°C and 60°C and (b) Obligate thermophiles with optimum temperature above 60°C. Temperatures in the range between 50°C and 100°C are normally in the lethal range for bacterial cells and spores. The range of temperature preferred by bacteria is genetically determined, resulting in enzymes with different temperature requirements.
Each organism grows within a particular temperature range (i.e. cardinal temperature points). The minimum growth temperature is the lowest temperature at which growth of a species will occur. The validity of measuring urea kinetics using a single dose of ¹⁴C-urea and using urinary excretion as a sampling system is based on specific assumption:

Although the causative agent for the condition has not been identified, experimental studies indicate the association of parvovirus and or Astrovirus. Under experimental conditions, the virus induces clinical signs onlyin fast growing broiler chickens. The formal design is stiff as all garden features in a straight and narrow way. In the formal design, the land is forced to fit in the plan. In this type, an axis is drawn in the centre of the garden which divide whole of the garden in two equal halves, one half being the exact replica of the other, for every feature, element or adornment. The outline of the whole garden as well as the outline of different parts like flower beds, paths, hedges and lawns are of geometrical shape. These shapes are normally square, rectangular,oval or circular.

The Persian gardens, Mughal gardens and Italian gardens were formal in design. Geometrical formalism also influenced the French and British gardens of the pre- Industrial Revolution.

Sub estrus (Weak or Silent Estrus) is a condition in which there are normal cyclical changes in the reproductive organs of a cow but the heat signs are not exhibited to a level of intensity as in normal cows leading to failure of estrus detection by a farmer. This chapter looks at ICTs in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with a focus on several selected countries in the region. Exciting and positive developments are happening throughout SSA Africa in ICTs. For instance, in spite of extensive poverty, SSA has had the fastest growing mobile market in the world over the last five years. The mobile telephone in the region has morphed to serve uniquely African development needs, including those in rural areas. It is being used for market information, extension messages and as virtual currency. In Kenya and Uganda, mobile phone services provide cheap messages about crop price information via text messaging. In Tanzania, there are ‘market spies’, farmers who visit local markets and remain in contact with the village using mobile phones to negotiate for better prices.

In spite of the growing use of mobile telephony and other ICTs, Africa has lagged behind in harnessing ICT potential for extension and other rural development issues in comparison to countries such as China, India, and Chile. Sub-Saharan Africa has the lowest teledensity in the world (Bertolini, 2006a). Many challenges exist to ICT use in SSA, and there are concerns that many rural African communities are being further left behind through the ‘digital divide’.

The purpose of a sub-surface drainage system is to lower the ground water table and removal of salts beyond the crop root zone. The ground water table may rise due to commonly practiced flood irrigation method, seepage from unlined channels, percolation of rain and runoff water and sub-surface flow from higher areas. Sub-surface drainage consists of drains laid at a specified depth, spacing and grade below the ground surface. The size, spacing and depth of drains depend largely on the soil-water properties viz. , infiltration, saturated hydraulic conductivity, drainable porosity; and the requirement of removal of water through drains in certain time period fixed on the basis of rainfall and crop cultivated. The drains are usually placed in a pervious stratum. Suitable filter of coarse sand and gravel may be used when it is placed in a low permeable stratum. Sub-surface drainage serves the important job of removal of concentrated salt solution from the crop root zone particularly in arid and semi-arid region.

Avocado, also known as butter fruit gained importance over years as one of the most nutritive fruits. Demand for this fruit increased over the past few years and now it has become an important fruit in international trade.

Original home of Avocado is Mexico in Central America and grows wild all over South America. The Spanish explorers took this fruit to Spain during 1601. It was introduced to Jamaica in about 1650. Avocado was first reported in Mauritius in 1780, Florida in 1833, California in 1856 and Zanzibar in 1892, but its cultivation started extensively in these areas during 1900 (Purseglove, 1974). It was introduced to South and West Coasts of India about 100 years ago from Ceylon. Avocado is now growing in most of tropical and sub tropical countries.

Avocado is grown commercially in USA, Israel, South Africa and Australia. USA, Israel, and South Africa are main exporters. In India, it is mainly grown in South where it is centred on hill slopes of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coorg and in selected regions of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

If the concentration of cells in suspension cell culture has reached to 7X10⁵ cells/ml, it is to be subcultured. Suspension cells are diluted to concentration of approximately 1X10⁵ cells/ml although it varies from cell line to cell line. So, to subculture into a 3 litre glass flask using 500 ml of suspension of cells, there is a need of 5X10⁷ cells. As the concentration of cells is 7X10⁵ cells/ml, there is a need of 71.4 ml of cells. Adherent cells are put in the culture flasks at a concentration of 5X10⁴ cells in a 25 cm² flask. For example, after trypsinization, the cells have been resuspended in 5 ml of medium and cell concentration is 1X10⁵ cells/ml or total number is 5X10⁵ cells. If one wants to put cells into two 25 cm² flasks each containing 5X10⁴ cells in 5 ml volume, there is a need of 1X10⁵ cells, which can be obtained from one ml of cell suspension (1X10⁵ cells/ml).

GENERAL CHARACTERS

• The members are terrestrial, and saprophytic or parasitic.
• The mycelium is well developed, branched and septate. The mycelium is of primary, secondary and tertiary type.
• Dolipore septum is present except rusts and smuts.
• Clamp connections present.
• Cell wall consists of chitin and glucans.
• Basidiomycetes reproduce asexually by conidia, arthrospores, oidia, fragmentation or budding.
• No specialized sex organs develop in Basidiomycetes.
• Plasmogamy takes place by somatogamy or spermatization.
• Sexual spores are basidiospores.
• They are exogenously produced on basidium.
• Usually four basidiospores are develop on basidium.
  The Basidiomycotina includes rusts, smuts, mushrooms, jelly fungi, puffballs, shelf fungi, toadstools, bird’s nest fungi, bracket fungi and earth stars.

GENERAL CHARACTERS

• The majority of the members are saprobic. A few Zygomycetes are weak parasites, attacking plants and animals.
• Most Zygomycetes produce a well developed and branched mycelium, consisting of coenocytic hyphae.
• Cell wall is mainly composed of chitin.
• Motile cells or zoospores are absent.
• Asexual reproduction takes place by non motile sporangiospores called aplanospores.
• Sexual reproduction takes place by gametangial fusion.
• Gametangial fusion results in the production of a thick walled resting spore, called zygospore.

GENERAL CHARACTERS

• Deuteromycotina includes the fungi in which the ‘perfect stage’(zygote, ascus, basidium) is either lacking or has not been discovered so far. Because of the apparent absence of any perfect stage or sexual phase, these fungi are commonly called ‘imperfect fungi’ or technically ‘Fungi imperfecti’.
• The characteristic feature of Deuteromycotina is the absence of sexual reproduction. The members reproduce only be asexual methods, and that too also chiefly by conidia, which develop on conidiophores.
• The conidia are produced either directly on the conidiophores or in some special types of fruiting bodies such as synnemata, acervuli, sporodochia or pycnidia.
• Fungi possess branched, septate and multinucleate mycelium except the unicellular yeast like members of Blastomycetes.
• Sexual reproduction is completely absent.
• Parasexuality is shown by some Deuteromycotina. Under this phenomenon, the process of plasmogamy, karyogamy and haplodization take place, but not at specified time or specified points in the life cycle of the fungus.

GENERAL CHARACTERS

• Ascomycotina includes only such fungi in which the zygospores are absent and the perfect state spores are the ascospores.
• The Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes are sometimes combindly called ‘higher fungi’.
• Cell wall is made up of chitin.
• Mycelium is well developed branched and septate.
• Asexual spores are non-motile conidia.
• Sexual spores are ascospores.
• Ascospores are usually 8 in an ascus.
• They are produced endogenously inside the ascus.
• The asci are usually grouped to form a definite type of multicellular fruiting body called ascocarp.
• The ascocarps are either cup or saucer shaped ( apothecium), flask shaped (perithecium), or closed, spherical and indehiscent (cleistothecium).
• The characteristic ascospores are present in sac- like body, called ascus and therefore these fungi are also commonly called ‘sac fungi’
• Yeast is single celled organism.

GENERAL CHARACTERS

• The Mastigomycotina includes all eumycota fungi which produce flagellated cells during their life cycle.
• Majority of them are with filamentous hyaline coenocytic mycelium.
• Cell wall contains cellulose.
• They show centric nuclear divison.
• The mode of nutrition is typically absorptive, because a majority of mastigomycotina contains some or other type of haustoria.
• They produce asexual spores called zoospores.
• Oospore is the sexual spores.
• Members of the class oomycetes are mostly aquatic but some are facultative or obligate parasites of vascular plants.

Spectral subset: Spectral sub-setting is done to extract few desired bands from the multiband raster image which are required for analysis.

Abstract

Mushroom production is emerging as an added dimension in agriculture diversity; its cultivation lies on the utilization of agricultural wastes rich in proteinaceous materials. Five different substrates such as wheat straw, maize cob, paddy straw, banana pseudo stem, and lentil straw were used with suitable supplements to evaluate the average period of spawn run, pin head initiation, time taken for harvesting of flushes, fruit yield during both crop season 2014 and 2015. In 2014, highest fruit yield (380.3 g/ 500g) were recorded when wheat straw supplemented with rice bran (2% of the substrate weight), corn flour @ 25 g/kg prepared straw and gypsum @ 20 g/kg straw among various used substrates. This treatment also resulted better in respect of time taken for spawn run (9.3 days), pin head initiation (11.7 days), time taken for harvesting of flushes (I^st flush- 20.5, II^nd flush-26.7, III^rd flush- 32.9). The second best treatment was paddy straw when supplemented with rice bran (2% of the substrate weight), corn flour @ 25 g/kg prepared straw, and gypsum @ 20 g/kg. The lowest fruit yield (193.6 g/500g), time taken for spawn run (15.9 days), pin head initiation (22.4 days), time taken for harvesting of flushes (I^st flush- 27.9, II^nd flush-37.1, III^rd flush- 44.7) were recorded with banana pseudostem (chopped) when supplemented with rice bran (2 % of the substrate weight), corn flour @ 25 g/kg prepared straw and CaCO₃ gypsum @ 20 g/kg straw. The same experiment was repeated during the year crop season 2015. Surprisingly wheat straw supplemented with rice bran (2% of the substrate weight), corn flour @ 25 g/kg prepared straw and gypsum @ 20 g/kg prepared straw was found again superior over other treatments with more or less similar performance. Similarly more or less same performances were resulted in rest of the treatment too. The incidence of mould infection in mushroom was also noticed in accordance with the kinds of substrates used during both crop season 2014 and 2015. Lowest incidence of mould i.e. green mould (5.13 %), black mould (3.10 %) and blue mould (2.42%) was observed on wheat straw when supplemented with rice bran (2% of the substrate weight), corn flour @ 25 g/kg prepared straw and gypsum @ 20 g/kg straw, green mold (3.13 %), black mold (3.10 %) and blue mold (2.42 %). Similarly more or less same pattern of mould incidence was reported in the crop season 2015.

They offer a surface for beneficial bacteria to thrive, help root aquatic plants securely, impact water chemistry by altering pH and hardness, and shape the visual theme of the tank. The type of substrate used—be it sand, gravel, nutrient-rich soil, or crushed coral—depends on the specific aquarium setup, whether it’s a freshwater, marine, planted, or biotope-focused tank.
Gravels, a common form of substrate, combine utility with decorative value. Citrus is the world’s leading tree fruit crop, comprising of mandarins, sweet oranges, grape fruit, limes and lemons. It is one of the most important fruit crops grown under varying agroclimatic conditions in India except in the high hilly temperature regions. Mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata) is the most important commercial citrus in India followed by sweet oranges and acid limes. Citrus fruits are not only delicious and refreshing but also they provide vitamins, minerals and other substances. Different species of Citrus have different chemical composition. In sweet oranges, principal constituents of edible portions are sugars (glucose + sucrose) and acids (primarily citric acid and a little of malic acid), the fruits of acid groups contain primarily acids in fruit juice. Rind of citrus fruits is rich in pectin and contains essential oils and glucosides (hesperidin, naringin). 10.1. Success Story of Mahila Umang Producer Company Ltd.

Mahila Umang Producer Company is established at Almora district of Uttarakhand, India. The company is fully operated by the hill women of Uttarakhand. There were 1464 members associated in this company. The company was established as a formal Farmer Producer Company in the year 2009 by the help of the promoting Non- government Organisation ‘Grassroots’. Before that it was working as a conglomerate of SHGs. 

Introduction

Farmers Producer Organisations are associations of farmers and other rural producers formed based on membership to advance the members' common interests, engage in mutually beneficial technical and economic activities, and foster and sustain relationships with other organisations active in the same economic and institutional sphere. Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO) are a way for farmers, especially those on the margins of the industry, to band together and establish a strong front against the myriad problems plaguing the agricultural sector, including a lack of capital, knowledge, and access to markets. To better organise farmers, increase their ability to pool their resources, and increase their competitive edge in the marketplace, the Indian government's Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (DAC) has determined that Farmer Producer Organisations incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 are the best vehicle for doing so.

Background

More than 85% of India's 12.5 million agricultural households are classified as small and marginal farmers because they own less than two hectares of land. Every farmer, on average, owns 1.33 hectares of land. For farmers, investing in cutting-edge farming techniques and high-yielding inputs like seeds and fertiliser is simply not feasible in the current economic climate. Uday Veer Singh Rana’s honey processing unit in Karnal yields Rs. 15 lakh profit from Rs. 80 lakh sales, utilizing strategic door-to-door marketing. Shemsher Rana’s polyhouse cucumber cultivation in Panipat nets Rs. 25 lakh from Rs. 60-70 lakh sales, capitalizing on high-demand markets like Azadpur Mandi. Pankaj Yadav’s Natura Greentech nursery in Gurgaon earns Rs. 5-8 lakh annually through online sales on platforms like Flipkart, offering ornamental plants and aftercare services. These cases highlight how organic farming, polyhouse cultivation, and innovative agri-ventures can transform small farms into profitable enterprises, fostering rural economic growth.

19.1. Eco-friendly Technologies for Rice Cultivation

A sound package of eco-friendly technologies to grow rice is being successfully adopted by a few progressive farmers in Puliangudi village in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. “The technologies work well with indigenous rice varieties such as Kitchili Samba. The cost of cultivation is substantially reduced and the organic rice fetches a premium price in the market,” says Mr. P. Gomathinayagam, a pioneer in organic farming in Puliangudi.

I always feel I am very lucky and got a chance to live in this beautiful God gifted planet by blessings of God and whatever God fixed for me I am trying my best to do so that I can fulfil my journey and reach to my destine and finally will back to the same place where I came. My father was a Botany Lecturer, he retired from his job in the year 2009 and my Mother is a house wife. I have one brother and two sisters. All are married now and me my misses, my son (Calyx) staying at my native village with my parents after I came back from Indian Agricultural research Institute and my brother and two sisters are staying at Bhubaneswar. I have a very small family staying happily at my village. I have completed my schooling at my village school which is just 1 km away from my home. My village Garh Guatira is belongs to Nimapara block of Puri district of Odissha and it is just 50 km away from Bhubaneswar. My village is very small which is surrounded by agriculture field specially 90% area is under rice cultivation. So I spent my childhood with my natural village climate and maximum time I spent in the village surroundings with its natural activities. I got first class in Botany (Hons) with distinction from the Nimapara college and it was one of the best moments for me, at least one step I moved towards my destination.
