Carnation is one of the world's most important commercial cut flowers and is extensively produced under protected conditions for domestic and export markets. This chapter examines its origin, distribution, genetics, botanical characteristics, types and commercially important varieties. It describes protected cultivation, greenhouse design, climate management, soil, propagation, planting, irrigation, fertigation, pinching, disbudding, staking and growth regulation. Climate, in general, is the totality of weather during a longer period and over wider area. Agro climate can be defined as the conditions and effects of varying weather parameters like solar radiation, rainfall etc., on crop growth and production.

Climatic classification is a method of arranging various data of climatic parameters to demarcate a country or region into homogenous zones i.e., places having similar conditions.

Rajasthan has geographical area of 3.42 lakh sq. km has attained the status of being the largest state of India. The state represents 10.4% land surface area with 5.5% population of India, 66% is dependent on agricultural for their livelihood. The state is divided into 33, districts, which are further subdivided into 338 Tehsils and 295 Panchayat Samitis. The total cultivable area is around 220.00 lakh ha. The average rainfall of the State is 575 mm, out of which about 532 mm precipitation occurs in the rainy season i.e. June to September. The average rainfall of eastern Rajasthan is about 704 mm and that of western Rajasthan is about 310 mm which reflects a vast variation. Rivers in Rajasthan are non-perennial except for Chambal and Mahi rivers. The State is presently divided into 33 administrative districts and has 10 agro-climatic zones. Agriculture in Rajasthan is primarily rain fed covering country’s 13.27 per cent of available land. Groundwater is getting depleted as well as polluted. In general, every third year is a drought year. Despite these, the State has made significant achievements since independence and has attained self-sufficiency in food- grains. Rajasthan is located in the north-western part of the subcontinent. It is bounded on the west and north-west by Pakistan, on the north and north-east by the states of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, on the east; in the south- east by the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and on the south- west by the state of Gujarat. The Tropic of Cancer passes through its southern tip in the Banswara district. In the west, Rajasthan is relatively dry and infertile: this area includes some of the Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert. In the south-western part of the state, land is wetter, hilly, and more fertile.

Cruciferous vegetables are important Kharif vegetable crops, which are grown both for table and seed purposes. This vegetable group constitutes crops like cauliflower, cabbage, radish, turnip and knol-khol. These crops are grown throughout the country and are attacked by number of diseases which not only reduce the quantity but also quality of the produce. Gender remains a critically important and largely ignored lens to view development issues across the world (Jayaraman, 2017). Gender inequality is the greatest human rights challenge of our time and also a critical economic, moral and social challenge (UN, 2015). There exists a significant gender gap in various sectors such as health, labour market opportunities, education and political representation all over the world. This mostly cause the restriction of women to stay at home for household chores. However, the associated disempowerment resulting from the adverse effects of restricting their way around outside world are seldom addressed in the development evaluation and monitoring processes (UNICEF, 2019). Therefore, gender equality and women empowerment are made explicit throughout the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Drawing urgency to these efforts, SDG5 aims on full gender equality and women empowerment as a cross-cutting theme along with more than 30 related targets across other SDGs.

According to FAO (2011), rural women constitute about 43 percent of world’s agricultural labour force and are the agents of change and resilience builders. Even then they undergo greater constraints compared to the men counterparts in accessing technological interventions, productive resources, market information, services and financial assets. The contribution of women to food security often remains undervalued and invisible (FAO, 2011). This leads to inadequate reflection of women’s role in policy, legal and institutional frameworks. These have created difficult situations for them to address the multiple tasks of natural resource management, child rearing and family well-being, without more rural women inclusive development interventions. There would be a drastic reduction in the number of hungry population and malnourished children in the world if women had the same access as men to productive resources which in

turn helps to increase yields on their farms significantly (FAO, 2018). Furthermore, they are also under-represented in grassroot level institutions and administrative mechanisms and assumed to have less decision-making ability. In addition to these constraints, women face an imprudent work burden, at the same time much of their labour remains unpaid and unrecognized under the prevailing gender norms and discrimination. It is high time to include them in decision making process within the households, communities and institutions and thus to enhance women’s participation in governance (Bayeh, 2016).

It is estimated that over 795 million people, which is equivalent to one out of every nine individuals, are suffering from undernutrition. These people are mostly found in rural areas and in countries that are still in the process of developing. Technologies that are either brand new, already in use, or in the process of being developed have the potential to address all four aspects of food security. Increasing the availability of food, for instance, may be accomplished via the use of genetic modification, methods for boosting the fertility of soil, and contemporary irrigation innovation (Tripathi et al?, 2019).

History

It was formed in response to the widespread concern in the mid-20th century that rapid increase in human populations would soon lead to widespread famine. The Rockefeller Foundation and the Mexican government, in 1943 laid the seeds for the Green Revolution when they established the Office of Special Studies, which led to establishment of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in 1960 and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) in 1963. However, these foundations alone could not fund all the agricultural research and development efforts needed to feed the world’s population. In 1969, the Pearson Commission on International Development urged the international community to undertake “intensive international effort” to support “research specializing in food supplies and tropical agriculture”. Thus, with the support of World Bank, FAO and UNDP, CGIAR was established on May 19, 1971, to coordinate international agricultural research efforts aimed at reducing poverty and achieving food security in developing countries

11.1 Introduction 
By passing a metal piece through a gap between two rollers that are revolving in opposite directions (clockwise or anticlockwise), metal can be shaped into a thin, long sheet by the process known as rolling. The working piece of the material to be created should have a thickness smaller than the gap between the two rollers. Rolling is used to convert more than 95% of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys into forms that are suitable for use. Rolling of metals gives the shapes, viz. plate, sheet, strip, foil, and various sections such as rail, beam, channel, angle, bar, rod, and seamless pipe. By allowing the material to travel through the space between two revolving cylindrical rolls, considerable compressive stress is applied to the material throughout the rolling process, which results in permanent deformation. The rolls are kept at a constant distance from one another. They can have grooves or flat. Using an electrical drive system (motor, gearbox, spindle, and couplings), the rolls are rotated in the opposite direction. The input material enters the gap between the rolls from one end and exits the other end with a decreased cross-section. The roll gap area remains less than the cross-sectional area of the input material (rolling stock), depending on the direction of rotation of the rolls. In most cases, the material must be passed through the revolving rolls multiple times to produce the final shape that is desired. The two rolls are brought closer to one another on each pass, or the material is allowed to travel through various sets of roll gaps with decreasing cross-sectional area. The assembly of rolls mounted on bearings is held in bearing blocks, also known as chocks, which are held between the spaces between two cast frames, also known as housings. The complete setup is called rolling mill stand. A rolling mill, also known as a rolling plant, is made up of one or more rolling stands along with other relevant and essential machinery for producing final rolled goods from a single or comparable class of raw materials.

Poor nutrient use efficiency result in loss of nearly 0.8 million tonnes of nitrogen, 1.8 million tonnes of phosphorus and 26.3 million tonnes of potassium annually. Soil health is further deteriorated by imbalanced application of nutrients and excessive mining of micronutrients, leading to deficiency of macro- and micronutrients in the soils (ICAR Vision 2030). Due to the imbalanced use of plant nutrients, mining of nutrients is considered as the main cause for decline in crop yield and crop response ratio.

It is estimated that about 16 per cent of total geographical area of India (329 m ha) has moisture index value below - 66.6% and is thus classified arid. This area is further classified into hot arid (36.8 m ha) and cold arid (15.2 m ha) regions (Ramakrishna et al., 2000). The hot arid region is characterized by extreme temperatures, low (<500 mm) and erratic rainfall, very high wind velocities, low humidity, high PET (>1800 mm) and frequent severe droughts which occur once in three years to alternate years in general. The soil moisture and soil temperature regimes are aridic and hyperthermic, respectively. The hot arid region exists in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Karnataka (Fig 1).

In India, hot arid ecosystem covering an area of 31.7 million ha lies at north western part of the country and 62% of this area falls in western Rajasthan covering 12 districts i.e. Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Barmer, Pali and Sirohi. The major landforms in arid western Rajasthan are dune and inter-dune plains having sandy to sandy-loam textured soils. Temperature remains high for most part of the year reaching up to 42-45°C during prolonged summer months (April to July), whereas annual rainfall is very low and highly sporadic (100-400 mm) mainly occurs during August and September. Annual potential evapotranspiration ranges from 1500-2000 mm. Loss of fertile top soil from denuded soil surface through wind erosion is frequent during summer months. The region is subjected to frequent occurrence of droughts, once in every three years, which further intensifies the process of desertification (Samra et al. 2006). Shorter growing period, sandy soils, very low available water capacity, inadequate nitrogen and phosphorus availability are the major constraints. Soils are prone to severe wind erosion, terrain deformation and nutrient depletion. The region is mostly mono cropped and double cropping is being practiced extensively in canal and tubes well command area. Extensive fallowing in the past even in very good rainfall years because of uneven undulating topography and severe windstorm are the cause of concern. Ground water is deep and is usually brackish, declining at alarming rate due to excessive withdrawal for irrigation and other purposes. The region, however, sustains on perennial vegetation of Prosopis cineraria, Tecomella undulata, arid shrubs and grasses, which are rich resources of fodder for animal because cropping is affected by vagaries of monsoon. During last two to three decades, a 2 to 3-fold increase in irrigated areas with cultivation of both kharif and rabi crops has been recorded and most of these increments are resulted through conversions from rainfed areas, grazing lands and sand dunes into irrigated areas.

In fish culture, anesthetic agents are commonly used in vaccination, labeling, and various measurements (Gomes et al, 2006; Collymore et al, 2014). But no agents have been able to obtain long-duration anesthesia in fishes. The use of conventional anesthetic agents in fisheries is not beneficial in terms of environmental safety as the discarded solutions directly reach oceans and rivers. The use of anesthetic agents presenting a risk of staying in the tissues of cultivated fish has been warned against. For example, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries caution against the use of anesthetic agents within 7 days before fishes and shellfishes are caught.

The use of anaesthetics has gained considerable importance in Fishery Science particularly during spawning (Colesante, 1977; Kidd and Banks, 1990) and transportation of live fishes or their early developmental stages (Maheshwari 1990; Jhingran, 1991; Pandit and Ghosh, 2012). This is because handling causes stress and physical damage to the fish, loss of mucilaginous covering, which in turn makes the fish susceptible to attack by bacteria and fungi (Brown, 1987). The anaesthetics are soothing medicines that reduce the metabolism and control the excitability as well as stress in a fish. Recently, Kugino et al, (2016) investigated whether the addition of nano oxygen-carrying bubbles to water at the same time as dissolved carbon-dioxide could result in safe, long-duration fish anesthesia.

Sapota, Manilkara zapota (Linn.) (Family: Sapotaceae), commonly known as sapodilla or chiku, is a perennial and evergreen fruit tree. It is native to Southern Mexico, Central America as well as Caribbean. This fruit was introduced during 1888 in Thane district of Maharashtra in India (Cheema et al., 1954). Now, it is an important tropical fruit grown almost throughout the country except in hilly areas. The fruit is a rich source of sugar, minerals, vitamins and dietary fibers. Presently the India is considered to be the largest producer of Sapota in the world (Nandre and Shukla, 2014).

Its subdomains—such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and natural language processing (NLP). In toxicology, AI, especially machine learning (ML), is applied to predict and evaluate chemical toxicokinetic and toxicity. ML uses algorithms to train computational models for problem-solving, and is categorized into supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning methods. These AI techniques are increasingly utilized in toxicology for analyzing complex data and enhancing safety predictions. They are increasingly being used in various areas of toxicology, such as neurotoxicity, cardiovascular toxicology, nanotoxicology, toxicokinetic, dermal toxicity, and carcinogenesis. These approaches provide enhanced predictive and analytical capabilities across these diverse toxicological fields.AI methods can enhance in silico toxicology by integrating various data sources, including chemical structures, biological information, and in vitro results. This improves predictions of human toxicity, reducing the need for experimental studies, especially in vivo animal testing.
