The sense organs in an insect body are distributed on different parts and respond to a given stimulus such as light, sound, touch, chemicals etc. The sense organs may be classified as • Visual organs (or) photoreceptors • Auditory organs (or) organs of hearing

• Chemoreceptors which respond to chemicals

• Tacticle receptors which respond to touch

• Gustatory receptors which respond to taste.

Photoreceptors

Light is perceived by insects through a number of different sense organs and these are the organs that react with light and useful for vision. These are of different types, but most important are the compound eyes.

Compound eyes

Goats and sheep play a vital role in natural farming systems due to their adaptability, efficient utilization of feed, and importance in sustaining rural livelihoods. Proper feed management is key to ensuring their health, reproductive success, and overall productivity, all while reducing reliance on external inputs. In natural farming, the diet of goats and sheep mainly consists of locally available grasses, shrubs, tree foliage, crop residues, and forage legumes. Fodder trees such as subabul, moringa, ber, and neem serve as valuable sources of protein and micronutrients. To address seasonal shortages, farmers establish fodder reserves and adopt agroforestry systems that combine tree planting with crop cultivation.
Goats, being browsers, thrive on a wide variety of vegetation including tough shrubs and woody plants, many of which contain medicinal secondary compounds. Sheep, on the other hand, prefer grazing on grasses and herbs, making careful pasture management essential to prevent nutrient deficiencies.
Locally sourced feed supplements like oilseed cakes, pulses, and leftover kitchen food help improve protein and energy intake. Mineral blocks enriched with salt, calcium, phosphorus, and trace minerals aid in proper skeletal development and reproductive health.

Abstract

Desert or arid regions present a unique environment for microbial growth. Thar Desert of India harbours a plethora of nitrogen fixing bacteria ranging from symbiotic nitrogen fixers, free living nitrogen fixers, associative nitrogen fixers and blue green algae or cyanobacteria. But the knowledge and extent of diversity is still limited to explore their full potential. On top of that, the documentation of the available knowledge is also scattered. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria are crucial for the protection of the nitrogen supply for vegetation in the arid region. Since deserts are poor in soil nitrogen, biological nitrogen fixation plays a crucial role in maintaining soil fertility. In this article, an attempt has been made to cover the nature and extent of diversity in nitrogen fixing bacteria in Indian arid zone.

Introduction

In agriculture, plant diseases have always been a major problem, as they cause crop quality to decrease, resulting in yield. Plant disease has a range of effects from minor symptoms to serious damages in whole crop areas, which lead to high financial costs and significantly impact the agricultural economy, particularly in developing countries dependent on a single crop or on a few crops.

Various approaches have been developed to detect disease in order to avoid significant losses. Causal agents have been precisely defined by methods developed in molecular biology and immunology. However, for many farmers these techniques are inaccessible and require detailed knowledge of the field or substantial time and energy to be used. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, most farms in the world are small and family-owned in developed countries. Such families provide food for a significant proportion of the population of the planet. However, hunger and food insecurity are not rare and there is restricted access to markets and services. For the above reasons, a great deal of work has been undertaken in order to establish methods that are sufficiently reliable and available to most farmers. Where Plant disease is an essential factor contributing to a major decline in plant production quality and quantity. Plant disease identification and classification are a significant role in improving plant production and economic development.

Introduction

Clean and renewable energy is a basic requirement for developmental activities. Global energy crisis is caused by increasing world population, escalating demand due to urbanisation, and continued dependence on fossil-based fuels. Non-renewable energy sources like coal, natural gas oil contribute 79 per cent of world electricity generation; only 21 per cent comes from renewable energy sources. Promoting the use of existing renewable energy sources and identifying new environment-friendly technology is gaining importance. Switching to renewable energy sources like wind energy, ocean energy and solar energy is gaining a lot of importance. These green technologies emit less greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and hence are pollution free and immensely available. Recently, investigators have identified plants as weak energy sources. Plants are versatile organisms capable of communicating with each other with a number of signaling mechanisms. It was observed that plants generate electronic signals inside their system. The concept of utilising electronic signals for studying various physiological plant processes was first put forth by Sir Acharya J. C. Bose, an eminent biophysicist, botanist, archaeologist and polymath from India (Fromm and Lautner, 2007). His ideologies and concepts of movements of plants laid the foundation for modern electrophysiology-a branch of physiology that deals with electrical phenomena associated with metabolic functions. Attempts have been made to harvest electricity from free electrons available in plant leaves produced during photosynthesis and from rhizosphere of plants formed as a result of bacterial activity. Currently, a lot of attention is being given to improvise and develop this technology. To proceed forward in this direction, it is very critical to understand the mechanism of electrical signaling in plants.

Introduction to Corporate Level Strategy

Corporate level strategy pertains to the choices and initiatives undertaken by a company's senior management to define the overarching direction and breadth of the organization. It entails making decisions regarding which industries or markets to engage in and how to distribute resources among various business units.

Scope of Decision-Making: Corporate level strategy concentrates on the entirety of the organization rather than individual business units or functional areas. It involves strategic decisions related to diversification, vertical integration, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances & resource allocation.

Purpose: The primary goal of corporate level strategy is to create value for shareholders by achieving a sustainable competitive advantage and maximizing the overall performance and profitability of the organization. It involves assessing the external business environment, identifying opportunities and threats, and leveraging internal capabilities to gain a competitive edge.

Diversification: One key aspect of corporate level strategy is deciding whether to pursue a strategy of diversification. Diversification can be either related (expanding into industries or markets related to the company's current business) or unrelated (entering completely new industries). The decision to diversify involves assessing the potential benefits, risks, and synergies associated with entering new markets.

Soil is one of the major platforms on which life sustains. Soil, the product of weathering, covers the earth’s surface. Soil is the medium of plant growth and thus it requires proper attention for better crop yield. The land is the constituent of soil, vegetation, physico-chemical and biological attributes affecting its usages. The soil may act as a sink or source for the elements and other materials. Hence, it requires to understand the various components to facilitate management options for improving the fertility status of soil.

2.0 Soil

The soil is a natural dynamic body on which plant grows. It is a complex mixtures of minerals, water, air, organic matter and microorganisms. Besides, there exist an unconsolidated mineral or organic material on the surface of the earth and thus becomes a natural medium for the growth and nutrition of the plants.

During processing seeds are cleaned, dried, and graded which are then treated with specific fungicide and insecticide. Seed at this stage is at best quality, which are then packaged into various packaging materials in a specific weight. Packaging or bagging of processed and treated seed is a requisite for easy handling of the bulk seed. Seed packaging can be defined as filling with seed, weighing and sealing the container whereas seed package as storage container where the seeds are kept for marketing or shipping or till the next sowing time.

The Packaging of Seed Involves

1. Filling bags/ containers of uniform size with seeds of known weight.

2. Providing leaflets inside the package with information about any specific cultural practices needed.

3. Attaching labels or certification tags having information regarding all the quality parameters.

4. Temper-proof sealing of the bag.

5. Storage or transportation of the bags.

1. Introduction
Aquaculture, the farming of aquatic organisms, has grown rapidly over the past few decades to meet the rising global demand for seafood. As wild fish stocks continue to decline due to overfishing and environmental pressures, aquaculture is playing a crucial role in food production. However, like other forms of agriculture, aquaculture faces significant challenges, with feed management being one of the most critical. Feed represents the single largest operational cost in aquaculture, often accounting for 50-70% of the total production expenses. Efficient feed utilization is therefore central to the economic viability of aquaculture operations. Yet, traditional feeding methods are often inefficient, leading to feed wastage, nutrient pollution in water bodies, and suboptimal growth in farmed fish.
In conventional aquaculture, feed is typically dispensed at set intervals and in quantities based on estimations of fish appetite and growth requirements. However, this approach has several inherent inefficiencies. Overfeeding or underfeeding is common due to the lack of real-time monitoring and precision. Excess feed that remains uneaten sinks to the bottom of ponds or cages, decomposing and contributing to nutrient pollution. This not only represents a direct economic loss but also creates environmental problems such as eutrophication, which can lead to algal blooms, oxygen depletion, and poor water quality. On the other hand, underfeeding can result in stunted growth, poor health, and reduced productivity of fish. Both overfeeding and underfeeding, therefore, represent significant barriers to achieving sustainability and profitability in aquaculture.

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It not only defends the body but also assists in the maintenance of homeostasis including water conservation and in body temperature conservation through insulation and in heat loss through perspiration. Pain and temperature extremes are recognized through sensory nerves of the skin. The skin also provides protection against physical injuries to some level, supports hair growth and offers some defence against microbial invasion. Skin diseases are multifactorial in etiology. But the response of skin to varying etiological stimulus is limited leading to same clinical manifestations in different skin diseases. Therefore, a comprehensive clinical examination is necessary for accurate diagnosis of the disease. Horticulture includes fruits, vegetables, floriculture, spices, tubers, plantation crops, medicinal and aromatic plants and mushrooms. The sector has established its importance in improving land use, promoting crop diversification, generating employment and above all providing nutritional security to the people. Even though India is the second largest producer of horticulture produces in the world, our per capita consumption of fruits and vegetables are very low.

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the nature and magnitude of genetic divergence and also to identify divergent parents in one hundred eight sorghum germplasm collected from different agro eco-geographical areas in India. Mahalanobis D² statistics revealed considerable genetic diversity among the 108 genotypes of sorghum. The genotypes grouped into 11 clusters.

It is classified asbottom-up manufacturing which involves building up of the atomor molecular constituents asagainstthetop methodwhich involves making smaller and smaller structures through etching from the bulk material as exemplified by the semiconductor industry.

Guava is also known as the “Apple of the Tropics”. It is very rich and cheap source of vitamin C and also contains a fair amount of calcium. Important guava growing states in the country are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh has the reputation of growing the best quality of guava fruits in the world (Mitra and Bose, 1990). The importance of guava is due to the fact that it is the hardy fruit which can be grown in alkaline and poorly drained soil.

Aquaculture has become one of the most significant contributors to global food production, responding to the escalating demand for fish and seafood. As a rapidly growing industry, aquaculture plays a crucial role in ensuring food security, nutrition, and livelihoods. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), aquaculture production has expanded at an average annual rate of 5.3% over the past 30 years. This growth has positioned aquaculture as a primary source of protein, essential fatty acids, and micronutrients for billions of people worldwide. Despite its rapid expansion, the aquaculture industry faces significant environmental challenges, primarily due to the large amounts of organic waste generated by fish farming. This waste includes uneaten feed, fish excreta, and the remnants of dead organisms, all of which can contribute to nutrient pollution when not properly managed. Nutrient pollution is associated with serious ecological consequences such as eutrophication, where excess nutrients lead to algal blooms, oxygen depletion, and the degradation of aquatic habitats. These environmental issues threaten biodiversity and undermine the sustainability of aquaculture systems.
Nutrient recycling has emerged as an innovative and sustainable solution to address these challenges. This approach transforms waste into valuable resources, particularly in the form of nutrient-rich feed ingredients. By harnessing nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic matter from aquaculture waste, nutrient recycling not only reduces environmental impact but also improves the economic efficiency of aquaculture operations. Nutrient recycling promotes a circular economy model, where waste from fish farming is reintroduced into the system, closing nutrient loops and reducing the reliance on external inputs.

Human migration is the movement of people from one area to another with intentions of settling, permanently or temporarily, at a new site (geographic region). The movement frequently happens across great distances and from one nation to another, although internal migration (inside a single country) is also feasible; fact, this is the major type of human migration worldwide. Migration is typically connected with stronger human capital at both individual and household level, and with better access to migration networks. Age is also essential for both job and non-work migration. People may travel as individuals, in family groupings or in big groups. There are four primary modes of migration: invasion, conquest, colonization and immigration/ emigration (Daylit et al., 2022).
Individuals migrating from their home owing to forced displacement (such as a natural catastrophe or civil conflict) may be classified as displaced individuals or, if staying in the home nation, internally-displaced persons. A person who seeks shelter in another nation may, if the reason for leaving the home country is political, religious, or another type of persecution, submit a formal application to that country where protection is sought and is then commonly characterized as an asylum seeker. If this application is successful this person’s legal status becomes that of a refugee.
In modern times, migration governance has grown strongly tied with state sovereignty. States maintain the right of deciding on the admission and stay of nonnationals since migration directly impacts some of the distinguishing qualities of a State (Mawire et al., 2020).

Blood transfusion is one of the crucial life-saving procedures in veterinary medicine undertaken to increase red cell mass, volume replacement, replenishing coagulation factors, and protein replacement. The concept of blood transfusion was first introduced by Francis Potter in 1639. However, it was only in 1666 that Richard Lower reported the first successful direct transfusion from one dog to another. Blood is a biological drug and is not a definitive treatment, but it provides support until the disease is diagnosed or treatment is initiated. Indications Blood transfusion is indicated for the management of the following conditions: •     Anemia due to various diseases/disorders, like infection or acute/ chronic hemorrhage •     Bleeding disorders such as thrombocytopenia or coagulopathies •     Rodenticide toxicities

Rice-wheat (RW) is the major cropping system occupying about 10.5 mha in the IGP of India. It contributes more than 60% of the foodgrains to the central pool. With shrinking land resources and burgeoning population, the RW system will be under pressure to produce more grain output per unit area in the coming decades. Meeting this challenging task requires sustainable management of soil, water and plant nutrient resources. High yields of the irrigated RW system result in production of huge quantities of crop residues. Total production of crop residues in Punjab is about 47.2 mt which includes paddy straw, wheat straw, cotton sticks, sugarcane leaves, maize stalk, and other oilseeds and pulse residues (Beri and Gupta, 2003). Wheat and rice straw constitutes more than 70% ofthe crop residues produced in the country. Paddy straw alone constitutes more than 50%. Cotton and sunflower residues are generally used as fuel. Sugarcane trash (leaves) is generally burnt in-situ or used as fuel after collection from the field. Increasing constraints of labour and time have led to the adoption ofmechanized farming in the highly intensive RW cropping system. Approximately 91% ofthe total rice area is mechanically harvested, while 82% of the total wheat area is mechanically harvested. Traditionally, wheat and paddy straws have been removed from the fields for use as cattle feed and for several other purposes such as livestock bedding, thatching material , for houses, and fuel. While more than 80% ofwheat residue is collected by the farmers after combine harvesting and often fed to animals, paddy straw is considered poor feed for animals due to its high silica content.

Substantial loss ofplant nutrients (especially N and S) and organic carbon occurs during burning of crop residues, with important implications to soil health. About 40% of the N, 60-85% of the K, 30-35% of the P, and 40-50% of the S absorbed by rice remains in the vegetative parts at maturity. One tonne of paddy straw contains approximately 6-7 kg of N, 1.0-1.7 kg of P₂O₅ and 14-25 kg K₂O. Apart from huge loss of precious plant nutrients, burning of crop residues depletes soil health. Air pollution from stubble burning also impacts human and animal health both medically, and by traumatic road accidents due to restricted visibility. In view ofthe serious problems associated with the residue burning, new ways are being sought to efficiently utilize the huge amount of surplus residues produced in the country.

Ber (chinese date, chinese fig or bore) is an important minor fruit of India. It is hardy fruit tree cultivated all over India and also known as poor man’s fruit. It is most widely cultivated in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pardesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra etc. Ber can do well even under marginal growing conditions and provides quality yields at low cost (Shukla, 1996). Fruits are mostly eaten fresh but the other forms, such as dried, candied, squash etc can also be prepared from ber. Stem bark, root and leaves have some medicinal values. Leaves of ber are used as fodder in dry regions. Ber tree (Ziziphus xylopyrus) is a host plant for rearing the Tachardia laccad a lac insect (Sharma and Kore, 1990).

Food Contact Materials (FCM)

Before food consumption, during production, processing, preparation, packaging, packing, transportation, storage, serving etc. food comes in contact o many materials, all these materials are called food contact materials (FCM). FCM may be containers used for transportation for example milk container, machineries for its production or processing, packaging materials for its packaging like cans of soft drinks, kitchenware used for its cooking, serving, heating, washing. The selection of FCM requires intense care because FCM can affect human health and also the quality of food. During contact with food, molecules can migrate from FCM to food. Hence, FCM should have the following common attributes:

1. FCM should be compatible with the materials used for production, processing, transport, storage, serving etc.

2. FCM should be inert and non-reactive.

3. FCM should withstand the chemical, Mechanical and Thermal variations.

4. FCM should be clean, hygienic and tamper proof.

5. FCM should not have blisters, cracks, sharp edges and visible defects. 6. FCM should be free from rust.
