Introduction
Normal reproduction in the female depends on hormones, which specific chemical substances produced by specialized glands are called endocrine glands. These secretions pass into the blood and lymph fluids and are transported to various parts of the body, where they exert several specific effects. Reproductive hormones may originate in the hypothalamus, pituitary, gonads, uterus, or placenta. Hypothalamic hormones are produced
in the hypothalamus, a portion of the brain that is the neural control center for reproductive hormones. The role of hypothalamic hormones is to regulate the release of other hormones from the pituitary gland, and many hypothalamic hormones are therefore called releasing hormones. The primary releasing hormone of reproduction is gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH controls the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain. These pituitary hormones regulate the production of estrogen and progesterone from the ovary. FSH stimulates the follicle’s growth, development, and function, while LH causes\= the follicle to rupture and the corpus luteum to develop. The female hormone estrogen is produced by the Graafian follicle on the ovary. Another hormone originating from the
ovary is progesterone, which is produced by the corpus luteum. Each has an important role in the female reproductive process.
A relatively new discovery in reproductive physiology is that follicular growth is not continuous in the bovine, but occurs in waves (2 to 4 waves per cycle). Each wave begins when the dominant follicle in the previous wave gains maximal size, at which time numerous small follicles begin a period of rapid growth. From this group of follicles, one follicle is allowed to grow to a much larger size than the others. This large follicle is called the dominant follicle, because it has the ability to regulate and restrict the growth of the smaller follicles. A few days after reaching maximum size, the dominant follicle begins to degenerate and die.

Some traits are carried on the sex chromosomes, X and Y. Most traits carried are present on only the X-chromosome. The Y-chromosome is smaller, and so, very few genes are located on this chromosome. Sex traits can be categorized into three types of inheritance:
Sex limited,
Sex-linked, and
Sex-influenced.
Sex-limited traits are traits that are visible only within one sex. For instance, barred colouring in chickens normally is visible only in the roosters. Sex-linked traits would be considered traits like sickle cell anemia and colour blindness. They are said to be linked because more males (XY) develop these traits than females (XX). This is because the females have a second X gene to counteract the recessive trait. Thus, the trait is more likely to be visible in the male.
Sex Influenced Inheritance
The condition in which the same gene acts as dominant in one sex and recessive in other sex is called as sex influenced dominance. That is, the sex influences the gene either to be dominant or recessive. The sex influenced genes are present in autosomes. This differential behaviour of the gene is due to female and male sex hormones. For example, in human being baldness is due to sex influenced gene. This trait is dominant in men and recessive in women. A man is bald in homozygous recessive as well on heterozygous condition for baldness. Whereas women exhibit baldness only in homozygous recessive condition for baldness and heterozygous condition for baldness in female sex produce normal phenotype. In recent past vegetable cultivation took enormous turn over because of increased population, inflow of tourists and increased per capita income in the Bay Islands as well as India. Population in these islands is increasing due to immigration of people from main land and the land area is limited.

ABSTRACT

Diabetes is a chronic endocrinologic disorder characterized by high blood levels of glucose due to insufficient secretion of insulin by the pancreas or improper utilization of insulin by target cells. More than 120 million people from all over the globe are estimated to suffer from this malady. Many plants and their constituents have become chief ingredients of a number of pharmaceutical preparations used against diabetes. An intensive survey undertaken for over 4 years in the tribal belts of Orissa to identify the plants used in folk medicine and the methodologies employed by the herbal healers have revealed that 35 species are being employed to cure diabetes. Out of 313 patients (185 males and 128 females) interviewed, 211 (67.5%) use Gymnema sylvestre, Momordica charantia, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Tinospora cordifolia, Pterocarpus marsupium, Andrographis paniculata and Rauwolfia serpentina in one form or the other regularly. Multi-plant preparations gave 80% results whereas single plant administration gave less than 50% results. Polyherbal treatment is advocated as multi-pronged attack to achieve desired results.

Human milk is the dynamic fluid provides initial and essential nutrients to the neonates and play key role in development and growth of infant gut microflora, nerve system, immunity system and other organs. Composition of human milk varies with number of factors from geographical location, individual habits, stage and period of lactation to mature or pre mature born of infant. Each component and its bioavailability in human milk plays specific function in infant nourishment. Protein and non-protein nitrogenous compounds of milk provides essential bioactive component required for preventing infants form many diseases and develop immunity. Nucleotides involve in many enzymatic and metabolic activities. Milk contains 3.0 to 5.0% fat act as a major source of energy consisting of larger portion of triglycerides. Essential fatty acid of milk important for nerve system development in infant. Additionally, fat soluble vitamins plays in sight and immune development for new-born. A Human Milk Oligosaccharide is natural prebiotic present in human milk which helps in growth of bifidus bacteria and prevent respiratory tract infection in infants. Completely Randomized Design

Completely Randomized Design is a type of experimental design commonly used in statistical analysis and research. It is applied under specific conditions:

By 2050, experts anticipate the world’s population will surpass 9 billion, resulting in a 70 percent increase in the need for food, feed, and fiber. This increase will coincide with significant lifestyle and consumption shifts primarily driven by urbanization. A notable decline in the consumption of grains and pulses is anticipated, while there will be a marked increase in the intake of vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy, and fish. With its long-standing contribution to human nutrition, aquaculture is key in supplying high-quality proteins (Nash 2010; Gui et al., 2018). As the population grows, resource scarcity and environmental degradation become increasingly urgent. The necessity for land resources to meet societal demands has turned attention toward oceans as a critical frontier for human survival. Fish, in particular, are emerging as an important source of high-quality protein for the human food (Baiden et al., 2007). Over the last few decades, aquaculture has developed into the very fastest developing in the agricultural sector. In 2020, fisheries production surpassed 60 percent of what was recorded in the 1990s, driven
by an unprecedented aquaculture output of 122.6 million metric tons (MT (FAO 2022). Given this context, aquaculture and fisheries are expected to be pivotal in ensuring global nutritional security (Subasinghe, 2017). Fish provide around 20% of the world’s animal protein, serving as a healthy option for wealthier populations due to their high polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) content. Simultaneously, small indigenous fish species are vital for the nutrition of lower socioeconomic groups, offering essential proteins, oils, vitamins, and minerals (Mohanty et al., 2010). Worldwide, the fishing and aquaculture industries play a crucial role in enhancing nutrition and sustaining economies. These sectors provide vital nutrients to approximately 3 billion individuals and constitute more than half of the animal protein consumed by 400 million people in economically disadvantaged areas. Fisheries and aquaculture play a crucial role in the livelihoods of over 500 million individuals in developing nations. The growth of aquaculture has been particularly noteworthy, with an annual growth rate of 7%, and fish products account for over 37 percent of the global food trade by volume. As wild fish stocks continue to decline, the cultivation of aquatic species, such as fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and aquatic plants, has become a cornerstone of the global seafood supply. As concerns rise over future food shortages and increasing prices, Fish farming and other forms of aquaculture serve as dependable sources of vital nutrients and protein, playing a significant role in enhancing global food availability and supporting efforts to combat malnutrition worldwide. Furthermore, the sector fosters promoting rural development by creating employment opportunities and enhancing local economic initiatives .In response to the rising demand for aquatic products, significant increases in aquaculture production will be necessary. Biotechnology offers a range of tools to facilitate the sustainable growth of aquaculture, fisheries, and the broader food sector. With the growing public demand for seafood and the degradation of marine habitats, researchers are increasingly focused on biotechnological solutions to enhance marine food production. This positions aquaculture as a rapidly evolving field of research (Melamed et al., 2002). Through biotechnology, researchers can identify and merge genetic characteristics in aquatic organisms to enhance their productivity and quality. The role of balanced diet in contributing to a long and healthy life is undisputed. Diet related diseases are quite common even among the people of the affluent West. Unlike in developing countries, where many diseases are caused by deficiency in the quantity and / quality of diet. The diet related diseases among affluent populations result from excessive consumption of undesirable foods. Over consumption of foods of animal origin like meat and eggs are implicated in the causation of atherosclerotic heart diseases. Annual food consumption has also been suggested as possible aetiological factor in some cancers. After years of research, scientists are finding health benefits in a largely plant based diet emphasising foods low in saturated fats. On the basis of the awareness that excess animal food consumption is harmful, recent dietary guidelines all over the world recommend a reduction in the intake of meat and meat products and a liberal increase in consumption of fruits and nuts. Like meat and eggs, nuts are abundant in proteins, the body building material essential for growth and maintenance of tissues. Nuts are also a concentrated source of energy, since they contain liberal amounts of fat.

China aster (Callistephus chinensis L. Nees) belongs to family Asteraceae. It is a half hardy and branching annual. Its generic name Callistephus is derived from two Greek words “kalistos” meaning beautiful and “stephos” meaning a crown alluding the large colourful flower heads. Plant is erect having hispid-hairy branches (Bailey, 1963). It is propagated through seed. It is cultivated as cut flower both in the field and under protected condition in temperate countries (Post, 1956 and Warren Auman, 1980). Whereas, in India it is widely grown in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharastra for cut as well as loose flower production (Janakiram et al., 2001).

ORIGIN AND DISTRIBUTION

China aster is originated from China. Several literatures also stated that China aster is native to China and Japan (Anon., 1950, Bailey, 1963 and Cockshull, 1985). The evolution of China aster has remarkable variations. The present day aster has been developed from single form of wild species, C. chinensis, a plant native to China. The plant was introduced in Europe in 1731 by Jesuit Missionary R.P. d Incarville.

The original plant had single flowers with two or four rows of blue, violet or white ray florets. The first change in the flower type had been the prolongation or development of central florets which lead to quilled flowers. Much original work to improve the plant was done by French. Later the British followed suit with breeding programmes. Most of the recent improvements are the work of American breeders. French florists contributed much in development of double forms. German scientists also evolved many doubled cultivars. These asters were known as German asters because the first great advances in the evolution of the plant were made in Germany and the seeds then used came largely from that country. The comet types introduced in 1886 or 1887 subsequently replaced the quilled types. With the introduction of new branching types by James Vick in 1893, the USA became the main centre of development of this plant as well as for the production of seeds. Since its introduction into Europe, it is grown in almost all the countries of the globe as a garden annual. A good amount of work on China aster on improvement and growing practices has been done in India (Singh, 2006).

Conservation agriculture (CA) refers to a set of agricultural practices involving three basic principles of proven scientific soundness. These include continuous minimum mechanical soil disturbance; permanent organic soil cover with crop residues or cover crops; and diversified, efficient, economically viable, appropriate spatial and temporal crop sequences providing opportunities for saving on inputs (labor, fuel, machinery etc.), improving resource use efficiency (water, nutrient, energy etc.) and mitigating GHGs emission with climate change adaptation. Recently research efforts have been made to refine the crop management technologies which are more resource efficient, improve production and income, and reduce GHGs emission compared to the conventional practices. Resource conserving technologies (RCTs) are increasingly being adopted by farmers in the rice-wheat belt of the Indo-Gangetic Plains because of advantages of saving on labor, water, fuel and cost along with timeliness in operations particularly early planting of wheat.

Biomass is a renewable and plentiful energy source with enormous potential to meet the rising demand for clean and sustainable energy solutions. This chapter offers an overview of biomass and its conversion technology, which includes various techniques to transform biomass into useful forms of energy like heat, electricity, and biofuels.

Biomass is an organic substance obtained from plants, animals, and microorganisms. It can be utilized as a source of energy or as a basic material in various applications. The energy in biomass is derived from photosynthesis, during which plants convert sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into organic matter. Since it comes from living or recently deceased organisms, it is a sustainable and renewable resource. In terms of carbon dioxide emissions, biomass is considered a carbon-neutral energy source because the carbon dioxide produced during combustion is offset by the carbon dioxide absorbed by plants during their growth.

Another limitation in a remote area such as the high-altitude region is the steady supply of wholesome and fresh food. Indian troops are stationed up to 2200 feet above sea level; generally speaking, high altitude is defined as elevations between 8000 and 15,000 feet above sea level. When someone who is not acclimated to high altitudes is exposed, they can experience a set of symptoms known as acute mountain sickness (AMS). One of the most severe symptoms of AMS is hypoxia. There may be neurological and cerebral symptoms, such as diminished ability to focus for extended periods, memory problems, problems with hearing and vision, vertigo and tinnitus, and irritability. The low appetite may persist; additional issues linked to high altitude include anorexia with weight loss, sleeplessness, and physical and emotional exhaustion.

Feeding silage is also an important part of the process. Silage can be fed to all kinds of animals. Silage is suitable for feeding 6-7 weeks after ensiling. Purposes of silage feeding are drought feeding, production increases, an aid to pasture or crop management, utilization of excess growth, balancing nutrients in the diet, and the storage of wet feed products. Silage is most likely to be profitable when used to increase productivity or balance nutrient content of the diet.
 
Feeding value of silage is defined as the product of the nutritive value and potential voluntary intake of the forage (Wheeler and Corbett, 1989).

The choice of hormones and drugs acting on reproductive system are important as therapeutic agents during reproductive disorders like anoestrus, metritis, pyometra, repeat breeder, retention of fetal membranes, delayed puberty, ovarian disorders etc.  The administration of specific chemotherapeutic agent is of paramount importance in treating reproductive disorders in dairy animals.  The dosage, route, frequency and indications of chemotherapeutic agents acting on reproductive system are mentioned in tabular form as below.

The word ‘Mycoplasma’ is originated from the Greek word mykes (fungus) and plasma (formed). It was first used by Albert Bernhard Frank (1889), a German biologist. He thought it was a fungus. An older name for Mycoplasma was pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO), referring to organisms similar to the causative agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP).It was later found that the fungus-like growth pattern of Mycoplasma mycoides is unique to the species. It was first isolated in 1898 by Edmond Nocard and E. Roux from bovine lungs. Mycoplasma pneumoniae was considered as a virus previously. Eaton and his co-workers cultured the causative agent of human primary atypical pneumonia (PAP) or ‘walking pneumonia’. It was known as ‘Eaton’s agent’. In the early 1960s, Leonard Hayflick, in Philadelphia, was first to isolate and cultivate the causative agent of primary atypical pneumonia and identified the agent as a Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Properties of genus

1 Morphology: Mycoplasma have no cell wall and therefore are resistant to the antibiotics used to inhibit the cell wall synthesis like penicillin, cephalosporin and vancomycin. The bacteria are the smallest prokaryote (0.3-0.8µm). They are pleomorphic due to absence of the rigid cell wall. The different shapes include ring, globules, filaments and elementary bodies. Due to their plasticity in shape and size, they can be passed through the membrane filter with pore size of 0.45µm. The cell membrane is constituted of trilaminar structure enriched with phosphoprotein, lipoprotein, glycolipid, phospholipid and sterol. So Mycoplasma require sterol for their growth.

Introduction

Corals are made up of hundreds of soft-bodied organisms called coral polyps that secrete, caco3 over time. It belongs to the phylum Cnidaria. Polyps varies in size from a pinhead to a foot in length. Each polyp has a symbiotic relationship with a host zooxanthellae, which gives color to the coral. Zooxanthellae absorb carbon dioxide, convert it through photosynthesis, and release oxygen and other essential nutrients, which are then utilized by the host polyp. All other photosynthesizing species, including corals, require adequate sunlight exposure. Most corals are therefore restricted to shallow, clean, and transparent environments.

Immunoblotting or Western blotting is a technique employed to observe proteins separated through gel electrophoresis. After the proteins migrate from the gel to a nitrocellulose or PVDF membrane due to an electrical current, the membrane is exposed to antibodies tailored for the desired target. Subsequently, secondary antibodies and detection reagents are utilized to visualize the proteins of interest on the membrane.

1. Preparation of tissue homogenate

The initial phase of sample preparation involves extracting proteins from their origin. Typically, proteins are extracted from cells or tissues through a process called lysis. This procedure disrupts the cell membrane to separate proteins from the insoluble components of the cell. Different lysis buffers are available for sample preparation in Western blotting and they differ in the potency of their detergents used to liberate soluble proteins.
