Carica papaya is a tree-like herb that grows 2 to 10 meters tall and is often unbranched, cylindrical & hollow stem Fruits are large, cylindrical, with fleshy orange pulp. Numerous, small, black, round seed with gelatinous aril. Papaya leaves have historically been used to treat thrombocytopenia brought on by a dengue infection. Ancient Origins of Aquaculture

The earliest records of aquaculture date back to ancient China around 2500 BCE. The Chinese practiced fish farming, particularly with carp, in ponds. Carp were favored due to their resilience and adaptability. This period marked the beginning of organized aquaculture, where fish were bred and raised in controlled environments. The Chinese recognized the benefits of aquaculture for food security and sustainability, laying the foundation for future practices.

In Egypt, evidence suggests that tilapia were farmed as early as 1500 BCE. Ancient Egyptians built ponds along the Nile River to cultivate fish, which were an essential part of their diet. These early aquaculture practices were driven by the need for a reliable food source, especially during periods of low f ish availability in natural waters.

Roman and Greek Contributions

The Romans and Greeks also contributed to the development of aquaculture. In ancient Rome, mullet and oysters were cultivated in man-made ponds called “vivaria.” These ponds were designed to mimic natural habitats, providing ideal conditions for the growth and reproduction of fish. Introduction

Precipitation is water in liquid or solid forms, falling on to the earth. In other words, precipitation is the deposition of atmospheric moisture on earth. FORMS OF PRECIPITATION

Precipitation form is the state that the moisture is in, i.e., liquid, freezing, or frozen (solid). Different forms of precipitation may occur together, such as mixed rain and snow; but such an occurrence is simply a mixture of forms, not a separate form of precipitation. Because atmospheric conditions vary greatly both geographically and seasonally, several different forms of precipitation are possible. All forms of precipitation are collectively termed hydrometeors. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the imitation of human intellect in machines designed to emulate human activities and cognitive functions. These machines are designed to accomplish tasks that normally require human intellect, such as learning, problem solving, perception, and decision-making (Zhang et al., 2022). Horticultural crops, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and ornamental plants, are of paramount importance in global agriculture, as they contribute significantly to food security, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability. Nevertheless, the cultivation of these crops poses numerous challenges for growers, such as fluctuating market demand, insufficient resources, unpredictable climate conditions, and the constant threat of pests and diseases (Nowak & Grant, 2018). In recent years, the agricultural sector has experienced a significant shift owing to advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies (Liakos et al., 2018). AI has emerged as a powerful tool for the cultivation of horticultural crops, providing solutions for boosting productivity, sustainability, and efficiency (Shrivastava & Kumar, 2021). By utilizing AI, horticulturists can overcome the traditional challenges associated with crop management, resource allocation, and environmental sustainability, paving the way for a more resilient and productive agricultural sector (Garg et al., 2019). The integration of AI into horticultural crop production encompasses a diverse range of applications, including precision agriculture, crop monitoring and management, predictive analytics, automated harvesting, and genetic improvement (Golhani et al., 2018). These applications leverage machine learning algorithms, remote sensing technologies, and data analytics to analyze vast amounts of agricultural data ranging from soil composition and weather patterns to crop health and market trends (Araus& Cairns, 2014). Through intelligent data-driven insights, AI enables farmers to make informed decisions in real-time, optimize resource utilization, minimize waste, and maximize yields (Kamilaris et al., 2017). This technological convergence offers promising prospects for food production, enabling stakeholders to explore new avenues for growth, resilience, and sustainability in horticultural crop cultivation (Mohanty et al., 2016).

Nipah virus infection is an emerging zoonotic disease first described in 1999 and the virus is under the genus Henipavirus and family Paramyxoviridae. The disease is similar to another emerging zoonotic disease caused by Hendra virus and can spread from its wildlife reservoir to pigs and humans where it causes an often fatal disease. It is a notifiable disease in most countries and to be handled under highest biological security level 4 (BSL-4). In Malayasia an outbreak of viral encephalitis occurred over a 35 week period from September 29, 1998 to 31^st May, 1999 among pig farmers creating considerable anxiety and fear. Of the 265 cases reported to the Ministry of Health in Malaysia, 105 were fatal and the case fatality rate was 39.6%. The outbreak also spread to neighbouring Singapore where 11 workers of an abattoir developed the disease with one fatality. 93% of the reported cases involved those directly in the pig farming industries namely pig farm workers, pig farm proprietors, housewives and family members assisting in the farms. The majority of the cases occurred in those aged 20 and above (92.4%) and actively engaged in pig industry followed by the age group 10-19 years (6.4%). About 82.6% of the cases are male.

Etiology: Henipavirus is a genus of the family Paramyxoviridae and order Mononegavirales containing two members, Hendravirus and Nipah virus. The henipaviruses are naturally harboured by Pteropid fruit bats (flying foxes) and are characterized by a large genome (18.2 Kb), wide host range and their recent emergence as zoonotic pathogens capable of causing illness and death in domestic animals and humans.

The viruses are pleomorphic ranging in size from 40-600 nm in diameter. They possess a lipid membrane overlying a shell of viral matrix protein. Artificial insemination (AI) is the technique of placing sperm into a female’s uterus (intrauterine), or cervix (intracervical) using artificial means rather than by natural copulation. Modern techniques for artificial insemination were first developed for the dairy cattle industry to allow many cows to be impregnated with the sperm of a bull with traits for improved milk production. White spot disease (WSD) in penaed shrimp and epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS) in fresh and brackish water fishes are the well known devastating diseases with serious impact in aquaculture. Disease Development Process

There exist a delicate balance between the host, pathogen and the environment. When this delicate balance gets upset, disease can result. Aquaculture environments can stress the host, favour the pathogen and result in disease development. To appreciate the process of disease development understanding the pathogenicity mechanisms of the pathogens, disease resistance mechanism of the host and the role of the environment is essential. Furthermore, role of various pathogens, their adaptive modifications, the functional importance of the target tissue, interaction between pathogen and host at the target tissue level, pathogenicity mechanisms of pathogens, etc are necessary to gain insight into process of disease development. Only when a pathogen can establish on or in the host, proliferate, overcome the non-specific and/or specific defense barriers of the host, produce the pathogenic factors, cause cellular and tissue damage, produce significant pathological changes, impair the function of the target tissue cause clinical disease often with mortality. This process is very complicated which often get accelerated by stress and environmental factors. However, the sequence of disease development will to a large extent depend on the nature and load of the pathogen (parasite, bacteria, fungi, virus), its intensity per unit area or unit weight of the host, size of the host and environmental factors.

ABSTRACT

The western part of India particularly Gujarat and Rajasthan received erratic and scanty rainfall and have sandy to sandy loam soil. In such climatic and edaphic conditions failure of crop is a regular phenomenon. In such situations a cropping system is required which can protect the associated crops from extremes of climatic condition and/or provide alternative/additional income. Agroforestry has such potentials; as a result lot of research had been done on agroforestry. This paper provides some of the agroforestry system and practices, which are suitable for Gujarat. The hurdles in adoption of agroforestry and its future prospects are also provided.
