Rivers are the most important system for water, for irrigation and human settlement. Historically, civilizations always nucleated near rivers, and latter also had social and religious significance. Rivers in India are considered holy and play the most important part in the lives of people, fauna & flora and the future environmental system. The Ganga Basin is the largest river basin in India which includes the Ganga, the Yamuna, the Ghagra, the Gandak, the Kaveribasin etc. Compared to these, the Vishwamitri River, situated between Mahi River in North and Narmada River in South in Central Gujarat is a small seasonal river but it is very important for the city of Vadodara and Central Gujarat region. This seasonal river originates from Pavagadh hills and flows east to west. It is a typical small river with the kind of problems in most rivers in India and other countries – liquid and solid wastes, enouncements, blocking of water ways, floods in monsoon months and dry dumping basin during most other months etc.
RIVERS & THEIR REVIVAL
River basin planning and watershed management were the centerpieces of water resource planning at the dawn of the era. For most of the century, however, natural resource policies and pressures led to watershed degradation. Today, the resources value of watershed ecosystems are being rediscovered. Watershed management reflects the recognition that we can only sustain biodiversity by managing the future ecosystem.

It is information and technology based farm management system to identify, analyze and manage variability within fields for optimum profitability, sustainability and protection of the land resource without disturbing the environment. It is basically means adding the right amount of treatment at the right time and right location within a field.

Breeding

Pomegranate is genetically heterozygous material thus there is lot of variability existent in the nature. Therefore there is scope for crossing two selected genotypes. Raising of hybrid population and identification of superior types for following major constraints in its successful cultivation.

    1.    Cracking and splitting of fruits is a severe menace due to variation in atmosphere, humidity. 
    2.    Resistance to fruit borer and stem borer. 
    3.    To develop varieties having high sugar (16%) and less acid (1.5 %).
    4.    All varieties bear some sterile flowers. This reduces the yield appreciably. Selection of varieties bearing high percentage of fertile flowers should be achieved.

When we talk about importance of feed technology in relation to animal productivity, feed represents the major cost in animal production as follows -
Feed processing includes all operations necessary to achieve the maximum potential of nutritional value of a feed stuff. The process involves changing ingredients in such a manner as to maximize their natural value and the net returns from their use. Feed processing may be accomplished by Physical, Chemical, Thermal, Bacterial or other changes of a feed ingredient before it is fed. The primary reasons for processing feeds are to make changes in the moisture content, density of feed, particle size, palatability; or to make more profit, to improve nutrient availability, keeping quality; or to reduce storage -transportation space, cost, moulds, salmonella and other harmful substances. Detoxification of undesirable components because some feeds may contain toxic substances, theexcess consumption of whichmaycausedecreased nutritive value of the feeds or may injure some vital organs or even cause death. Some natural inhibitors in feedstuffs are as following :

Plant biodiversity is the single greatest resource that man garnered from nature during the long cultural development phase. More than 2.5 lakh species of mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants and more than 50,000 plant species are yet to be documented, primarily in the remote and less studied reaches of tropical forests.

Vegetable crops in which rich diversity occurs in India are Cowpea, Common bean, Cole crops, Okra, Brinjal, Sweet potato, Taros, Yams, Sword bean, Velvet bean and Elephant foot yam. Wide diversity was observed in chives, leeks and other Allium spp in Kumaoun and Garhwal Himalayas; cluster bean in Western arid zone; lab lab bean in Deccan plateau; cucurbits in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and leaf vegetables like Amaranth and Fagopyrum in Western Himalayan region. Tropical vegetables consist of solanaceus fruits (tomato, hot pepper, brinjal), cucurbits (water melon, muskmelon, cucumber, pumpkins and squashes, bottle gourd, chow-chow, ivy gourd, bitter gourd, ash gourd, round gourd, snake gourd, pointed gourd, sponge gourd, ridge gourd), malvaceous vegetables (Okra),legumes (common bean, lima bean, dolichos bean, cowpea, sword bean, winged bean), allium (onion, shallot, garlic, leek) and leaf vegetables (amaranth, spinach beet, Ceylon spinach). The indigenous vegetables both cultivated and wild have important role in household nutrition, economy and food security. There are 25 hot spots of biodiversity of which Western Ghats and Eastern Himalayan region are the most important ones. Indo-Myanmar region is one of the largest hot spots of the world and is the centre of origin of tuber crops like yams, taro, Amorphophallus and Alocasia. Tropical tuber crops form an important group of subsistence crops especially to those living in tropics and sub tropical zones. Tuber crops are the third important food crops after cereals and grain legumes. Major tuber crops are cassava, sweet potato, Asiatic yam, African yam, lesser yam, elephant foot yam, taro, tannia and country potato. Minor tuber crops are arrowroot, winged bean, yam bean, canna, safed musli and Jerusalem artichoke. Sweet potato is one of the world’s highest yielding crops.

Biodiversity is the origin of all species of crops and domesticated and the variety within them. It is also the foundation of ecosystem services essential to sustain agriculture and human well-being. Today’s crop and livestock biodiversity are the result of many thousands years of human intervention. The biodiversity in vegetable crops is composed by the genetic diversity, as species diversity (inter specific diversity) and as diversity of genes within a species (intra specific diversity) referring to the vegetable grown varieties, and by the diversity of agro-ecosystems (agro-biodiversity).

Crop diversity is the variance in genetic and phenotypic characteristics of plants used in agriculture. Over the past 50 years, there has been a major decline in two components of crop diversity; genetic diversity within each crop and the number of species commonly grown.

Shock is a sequel to trauma or severe diseases such as heart failure, sepsis or acute inflammatory conditions like pancreatitis. Shock is generally associated with decreased supply and utilization of oxygen. The term shock is a chain of physiological events that can result in death if immediate rational treatment is not instituted.

All agriculture universities have three main Directorates – Education, Research and Extension of the three, I have often observed that Extension Department comes in for maximum criticism. ‘Loose links’ and need to do much more in transfer of knowledge and technology are frequently emphasized at various levels – especially in meetings with farmers groups. This is understandable – as it is said that less than 10% - often less than 6% of lab scale knowledge and development reach the farmers fields in developing countries and even in many ‘developed’ counties. The situation is much more challenging when we consider a large population of small and marginal farmers – who as we saw can play extremely important role in eco-agriculture. A large percent of such farmers – women and men are practicing eco friendly agriculture without realizing it. Their ‘ignorance’ can be converted in to advantage and new opportunity. The age old extension practice of reaching farmers through meetings, visit , seminars, camps, demonstrations all have limitations and need to be ‘scaled up’. New developments in information and communication Technology offer a great opportunity for a big jump in reaching the unreached. Again to alarge population of ‘Green Revolution’ – there is a new hope and opportunity.

Introduction

India is the second most populous country in the world. The per capita cultivable land resource is shrinking day by day. To meet the food, fibre, fuel, fodder, and other needs of the growing population, the productivity of agricultural land has necessarily to be increased. It requires increased use of agricultural inputs like quality seeds, fertilizers, water, agro-chemicals, etc. in such a manner that do not create any environmental problems.

Plant needs different chemical elements to grow and thrive. The most important chemical elements include (i) carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, which are basic life building blocks and are available in plenty from air and water (ii) nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which are the macro nutrients and affect the plant growth significantly (iii) sulfur, calcium, and magnesium as secondary nutrients and (iv) boron, chloride, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum and zinc as micronutrients in very small quantities.

Abstract

Groundwater flow modeling in hydrological sciences is one of the main tools used to assess the resource potential in terms of quantity and to predict the future impacts under different stresses/scenarios. This case study is prepared to present the  groundwater flow model for the Osian-Mandore pilot area with 12 villages of Mandore Block and 21 village of Osian Block in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. The spatial model parameters and spatio-temporal fluxes were acquired and processed using remote sensing, GIS and Groundwater flow modeling interfaces. MODFLOW software was used to model the groundwater flow system in three interfaces PMWIN 5.3.0, Groundwater Modeling System and Visual MODFLOW. 

C3 Plant : A plant in which the first product of CO₂ fixation is the 3-carbon compound; phosphoglyceric acid and is comparatively photosynthetically less efficient than C4 plants e.g. wheat, rice, barley etc. 
C4 Plant : A plant in which the first product of CO₂ fixation is the 4-carbon compound oxalo acetic acid (OAA) and is photosynthetically more efficient than C3 plants e.g. sugarcane, maize etc.
Calibration : Calibration with respect to models refers to the adjustments made to model parameters so as to give the most accurate comparison between simulated results and results obtained from field measurements.

ABSTRACT

Tamil Nadu, the southern most state of India has 8 per cent of the country’s population and its net sown area is only 4-5 per cent of the country’s area. The state is endowed with varied physiography from hills to coastal lands and hence varied agroclimatic and edaphic conditions. This paper details the characteristics of different agroclimate and provides varied perennial and annual components being practiced in different combinations in these agroforestry systems.

INTRODUCTION

Land is a major non renewable natural resource. With the increase in population, the demand of land for all activities increases. The requirement of food, fibre, fodder and fuel of the ever increasing population has to be met with the finite land resources. In India, the pattern of land use in agriculture and forestry took a drastic turn during the period from fifties to eighties. Conservation, development and management of the available land is basic for ensuring food, ecological, environmental and economic security of our country. Tamil Nadu’s population is around 8 per cent of the total country and the net sown area is only a meager 4-5 per cent of that of the country. With the ever increasing population and expanding industrialization, steps need to be taken to utilize the land to the optimum extent possible and to identify and utilize lands effectively and efficiently in order to make full use of their maximum capability.

Since the last decade discussion regarding ecology is being heard. A campaign with a great planning has launched by holding seminar conferences and meets. The ecological problem became a matter of tremendous panic and anxiety. Not only in India but also in entire world this problem is being discussed through all school, colleges and universities on international scale all over world, since it became universal issue now a days. The word ecology was not known to the people 20 years ago, never the less it became familiar even among the villages today. The people in villages are making thorough study of the subject. The experts of ecology from all over the world have been surprised to learn the exhaustive study of the same done by the Indian scholars. We have instituted a separate ministry to look after the environmental problems. The activities injurious to environment are prohibited. An act is there to restrict antienvironmental deeds what made scientists all over the world to take this matter so seriously. Chromatography is an important analytical technique for the separation, isolation and identification of the constituents of a mixture. It is a physical method of separation in which the components to be separated are distributed between two phases; one of these phases consisting a stationary bed of large surface area, the other being a fluid that percolates through or along the stationary bed. All forms of chromatography do have the common features given in this definition. All of them involve the physical movements of the sample across a flat surface (tube like) or through a tube. The stationary phases in all of these possess a large surface area. In all the techniques, the movement of the sample is due to the motion of the fluid/mobile phase. The principle underlying all these methods is the selective retardation of the movement of the components by the stationary phase. The role of toxicology in the evaluation of new agrochemicals

The widespread use of agrochemicals for crop protection may expose humans, animals, and the environment to toxic chemicals. Humans may be exposed during manufacture or application, and to a lesser extent as consumers of food products containing trace amounts of residues.

Strategies of toxicity testing

No-Observable-Adverse- Effect-Level (NOAEL)

A level in which the total diet that causes no adverse effect in treated animals when compared to untreated animals maintained under identical conditions. This NOAEL is expressed on a mg/kg of body weight/day basis. Chronic and sub chronic studies are need to be carried out in different species to determine NOAEL values.

It depends on how much of the substance an organism is exposed to, but all chemicals are toxic to some degree. Toxicology studies try to figure out the exact types and amounts of harmful effects, as well as the lowest doses that won’t have any negative effects (called the “No Observed Adverse Effect Level” or NOAEL). Most data come from studies with lab animals and cells that have been grown in a lab. Using these numbers and extrapolation or uncertainty factors, it is possible to figure out an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). This is the maximum amount of a substance that a person can take in every day without putting themselves at a very high risk of getting sick. These numbers will be compared to how people might be exposed to a compound in the environment, including through food. This will show if the use of an agrochemical is potentially allowed.

Introduction 
Schiff base ligands (also called azomethines) were first revealed by German chemist Hugo Schiff in 1864. They are synthesized through a straightforward condensation reaction between an amine and a carbonyl compound (aldehyde or ketone). This reaction forms a characteristic imine group (>C=N-) while eliminating a water molecule as a byproduct. Schiff bases are highly versatile and serve as ligands for various transition metals, forming complexes with applications in catalysis, material science, and medicinal chemistry. Their ease of synthesis, tunable structure, and ability to stabilize metal centers make them valuable in both academic research and industrial processes (Cozzi, 2004). They can form stable complexes with almost all metal ions, offering various coordination geometries. Their flexibility makes them valuable in catalysis, medicinal chemistry, and materials science, with wide applications across these fields. Schiff base metal complexes exhibit exceptional catalytic performance in various high-temperature reactions (>100 °C), even under humid conditions. These complexes are widely employed in catalytic processes, such as oxidation, reduction, carbon-carbon bond formation, polymerization, and asymmetric synthesis (Zoubi et al., 2016). Recently, interest in olefin polymerization has increased due to their ability to catalyze the formation of commercially significant branched and linear polyethylenes. Their versatility, structural tunability, and high stability make them ideal for such applications, offering pathways to develop advanced materials with tailored properties for industrial and commercial use. Schiff base complexes thus remain central to modern catalysis research. These complexes have shown great potential in producing polymers with tailored properties, making them highly valuable in industrial applications. Schiff base complexes have gained attention for their catalytic roles, particularly in the reduction of ketones to alcohols and the alkylation of allylic substrates. These complexes, typically coordinating with metal ions, facilitate crucial organic transformations by stabilizing intermediates, offering an efficient and selective route for various chemical reactions. Schiff base complexes enable controlled ring-opening polymerization of cycloalkenes at low temperatures, offering precise molecular weight regulation without side reactions. In contrast, traditional catalysts like tungsten, molybdenum, or ruthenium with alkylating agents require high temperatures and lack molecular weight control, making Schiff bases more efficient for polymerization. The oxidation of hydrocarbons catalyzed by Schiff base complexes has garnered significant academic and industrial interest. These metal complexes are studied for their ability to facilitate efficient and selective oxidation reactions, offering insight into their catalytic activity and potential applications in chemical processes and industrial oxidation technologies. The ring-opening of large cycloalkanes is challenging due to their stability, but Schiff base complexes of cobalt(II) and chromium(III) effectively catalyze these reactions. These complexes enhance metal center reactivity and stabilize intermediates, enabling efficient cleavage of cyclic structures and expanding possibilities for catalytic transformations in synthetic and industrial chemistry. These complexes not only facilitate the process but also exhibit important enantioselectivity, creating them valuable catalysts in asymmetric synthesis and fine chemical production. Chiral Schiff base complexes have emerged as versatile and efficient catalysts in various organic transformations, particularly in asymmetric synthesis. Insect pollinators are essential for the reproduction of most flowering plants and contribute substantially to global crop production and food security. Bees, butterflies, moths, flies, beetles and other insects transfer pollen and support fruit and seed formation. Climate change can influence their physiology, development, activity, foraging, migration, distribution and seasonal emergence. It may also create mismatches between flowering periods and pollinator activity, reducing pollination efficiency. Drought, extreme heat, habitat loss and changes in floral resources further threaten pollinator diversity and abundance. This chapter introduces the evolution of forestry from traditional human dependence on forest resources to a multidisciplinary scientific field concerned with ecological, economic, and social objectives. It traces the development of scientific forestry in Europe and its expansion into India, including the influence of German and French forestry systems. The chapter examines the establishment of forest administration, forest legislation, and the changing role of forestry during the colonial and post-independence periods. Abstract

This paper sets out to describe key results and experiences obtained during the assessment of the crop response to water which varies strongly from crop to crop depending on its specific genetic characteristics and adaptation to ecological conditions. The specific crop water information for the different crops is compiled in a crop-based data base. This includes crop water parameters, yield response to water, as well as selection of economy crops. Existing natural water resources can sustain the crop production with high yield as well as economic value with minimal environment impact. Most of the crop varieties get all of its required water from rainfall- water but due to climate change there is always a demand of irrigation water from the ground water resources. Thus, there is a need to evaluate the crop water information in relation to ground water extraction as a source of irrigation.
