Introduction

The cardiovascular system is comprised of the heart and blood vessels (arteries, capillaries, and veins). The heart pumps blood to blood vessels which allow blood to flow throughout the body. Both heart and blood vessels are work together to keep the blood circulating, ensuring the interchange of O₂, CO₂, electrolytes, and nutrients between the blood and the tissue fluids & cells, and removing waste products from the body via the excretory system.

The purpose of the study of the cardiovascular system is aimed at understand the pathophysiology of the heart and vascular system. A physical examination, arterial blood pressure, and electrocardiography are routinely employed to examine the cardiovascular system. The physical examination of the heart includes palpation, percussion, and auscultation.

The present research had been conducted to study the Entrepreneurial behaviour of farmers in farmer producer organisations(FPO) in selected block of Odisha and in the end the comparison is made. The study had been conducted on 2 Farmer producer organisations (FPO) of Ranpur block from Nayagarh district of Odisha. A pilot study was conducted to understand the area,its people, institution ,communication and extension system of these states.

An exhaustive list of respondents was prepared critically with the help of FPO members. From the list, 100 respondents were selected for the study through Snowball sampling method. The primary data were collected with the help of structured interviewschedule by following the personal interview method. The secondary data werecollected from our departmental library, internet, Department of Agriculture, Odisha, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya ,etc.for establishing the conceptual framework of the study.

This chapter explores consumer perception in agricultural marketing, focusing on factors that influence purchasing decisions, including quality assessment, branding, packaging, and labelling. It also examines the challenges faced by farmers, particularly in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where traditional agricultural practices are shifting toward sustainability-driven approaches. The study highlights emerging trends in agricultural consumer behavior including the role of digital marketing, eco-labelling, and traceability in building trust and loyalty. Additionally, it discusses supply chain inefficiencies and marketing strategies that can enhance profitability for farmers while meeting consumer  expectations. By integrating consumer-driven insights with innovative marketing approaches, this chapter presents a roadmap for improving agricultural market structures, fostering consumer confidence and ensuring sustainable growth in the agri-food sector.

Introduction
India has vast animal genetic resources with a wide variety of indigenous farm animals including cattle. The cattle breeds have evolved over generations to adapt to the agro-climatic and socio-economic needs of the people. Domestic animal diversity is defined as the spectrum of genetic differences within each breed and across all breeds within each domestic animal species, together with the species differences; all of which are available for the sustainable intensification of food and agriculture production. The domestic animal diversity has evolved over millions of years through the processes of natural selection forming and stabilizing each of the species used in food and agriculture. Over the more recent millennia the interaction between environmental and human selection has led to the development of genetically distinct breeds. Selection processes, directed by both humans and the environment, together with the random sampling processes causing genetic populations to drift over generations, have accelerated the development of the diversity within species leading to the creation of distinct genetic differences amongst breeds.

Milk is the only product which is considered nature’s almost perfect food. It is treasure house of unlimited nutrients. It is considered best and ideal food by virtue of possessing almost all the nutritional factors, viz., fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. They are not only of higher quality but are present in milk in such form and proportion that their digestion and assimilation in the body is very efficient. Milk also plays a supplementary role in our nutrition. If it is included in our diet it enhances digestion and assimilation of nutrients of other food products. This is the reason that it is kept in high esteem as a food and is called the nectar for living beings.

Milk is the first taste of food for whole mankind. It establishes the mother-infant bond and is a life promoter. Of the many fluids that biology offers milk is perhaps the most versatile in terms of its use– as food, as a growth stimulant and as a defense package to the user. To the infant mammal – be it a mouse, calf or a human child, mother’s milk is more than a source of energy and nutrients. It contains a wide variety of substances that defend the growing infant against infections.

Milk, a perfect blend of nutrition and palatability, plays an important role in preserving mental and physical health. Milk has long been recognized as the most wholesome and complete single food available in nature for health and as a medicine, both preventive as well as curative. Ancient chronicles as recorded in the Upnishads, Puranas and Vedas extol the beneficial and therapeutic properties of milk and milk products. It has been stated that cow milk, dahi and ghee impart knowledge and radiance, cure heart trouble and anaemia besides other bodily diseases.

ABSTRACT

The present paper highlights the implication of geochemical strategic tools to choose suitable site selection on the coastal region. Geochemical tools and geomorphological survey have been also deployed to identify the suitable site. The geomorphology of the site A reveals enough fresh water accumulation was found and the two elevated crest and the adjacent trough (low land) with surrounding areas further support the fact. The water quality of this site exposes very good quality (< 200ppm TDS) and the dissolved major anions (HCO3, SO4, Cl) and cations (Ca, Mg, Na, K) concentration are well within drinking water standards. The soil samples are of medium to coarse sand nature showing high porosity (40 to 50%) with mica flakes acting as less permeable in nature. The water quality shows very good in nature and similar to Site A. The soil characters additionally proved good in porosity and permeability (SAR 1.5 to 2.1).

In agroforestry systems the various components like tree, crop and pasture exist in different proportions and orientations. It is difficult to find out which agroforestry system is the best suited for a given land situation. Similarly, it is to be decided which technologies are required for refinement and improvement of the existing agroforestry practices. But without sufficient knowledge of the existing system in a particular land situation, it is very difficult to set the research priorities for modification and development of this system.

Diagnosis and Design (D & D) is a systematic and objective methodology developed by International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) to initiate, monitor and evaluate agroforestry programmes. D & D is based on the philosophy that knowledge of the existing situation (diagnosis) is essential to plan and evaluate (design) meaningful and effective programmes in agroforestry research for development. The methodology plays a strategic role in all the phases of the agroforestry research process. D & D in agroforestry is unique and it has been specially developed for the following purposes.

Mutations are sudden heritable changes in the genotype of an organism. De Vries (1900) for the first time used the term mutation (mutare in Latin means ‘to change’) for the appearance of new types in evening primrose (Oenothera) plant. In 1901 he put forth the idea of producing mutations artificially for use in crop improvement. Alberto Pirovano (1922) was first to use X-rays and ultraviolet rays for inducing mutations in plants, but his work remained unknown. So, Muller (1927) became the first known to induce mutation in Drosophila fly using X-rays. Though Stadler (1928) had started working simultaneously on barley and maize and induced mutations, he was late in reporting mutation due to longer life cycle of these plants compared to Drosophila. Mutation may be gene mutation (the result of change in the nuclear gene or plasma gene) or chromosomal mutation (change in chromosome number, structure or chromosomal aberrations of various types).

Demand forecasting is essential for India’s agricultural sector, which plays a vital role in the economy and employs a significant portion of the population. Accurate demand forecasts enable effective decision-making regarding production, storage, marketing, and pricing, ensuring food security and economic stability. The dynamic nature of agricultural markets in India, influenced by factors like seasonal variations, climatic conditions, and socio-economic changes, underscores the need for robust forecasting models. As India’s agricultural market is projected to grow significantly by 2029, demand forecasting models must adapt to evolving consumption patterns driven by factors such as population growth, rising incomes, and urbanization. Technological advancements, including machine learning and hybrid models, are enhancing forecasting accuracy, but challenges persist due to data limitations, unpredictable weather, price volatility, and complex consumer behavior. Despite these hurdles, demand forecasting offers critical
insights for policymakers, farmers, and agri-businesses. This paper explores the importance of demand forecasting in agriculture, outlines various forecasting methods, and discusses challenges faced in India’s agricultural market. Case studies on staple crops, edible oils, and livestock products highlight the impact of accurate forecasting on market stability and policy development. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for technology adoption and collaboration to improve forecasting precision for sustainable agricultural development.

Phosphorus, an essential element, plays a central role in cell metabolism and reproduction. It is a structural component of energy transferring molecules (ATP, ADP and AMP), nucleic acids, coenzymes, phosphoproteins, phospholipids and sugar phosphates. In soils, the phosphorus does not occur as abundantly as nitrogen or potassium. The total phosphorus in an average arable soil is estimated to be about 0.05% (by weight) with an average of approximately 1100 kg P ha-1 (range 200-2000 kg P ha^-1). But only a meager proportion (only ~0.1-1.0%) of it is available for use by plants and microorganisms because phosphorus has poor solubility and gets fixed in soil. Not only the native inorganic phosphates but even the added soluble phosphates of fertilizers and manure readily combine with the cations present in soil solution to form low solubility products. Fixation reactions in soils allow only a small fraction (10-15%) of phosphorus fertilizer to be taken up by the plants in the year of its application.

Milk is a complex colloidal dispersion, the physical and physicochemical properties of which depend on intrinsic compositional and structural factors, extrinsic factors such as temperature, and post-milking treatment.

There is no clear dividing line between physical properties and physicochemical properties. However, physical properties may be thought of as the measure of the bulk behaviour of milk and of how milk interacts with energy, while physicochemical properties are measures of how bulk behaviour and energy interactions depend on the constituent colloidal particles, molecules, atoms and ions in milk.

Knowledge of physical properties is of importance particularly in the technological and engineering design and control of milk processes and processing equipment. Knowledge of physicochemical properties provides the basis for the design of modern methods of milk analysis, determination of milk microstructures and elucidation of the complex chemical reactions that occur in milk.

In the dairy industry measurements of the physical properties of milk and milk products are made to secure data necessary for the design of dairy equipment (e.g., heat conductivity and viscosity) to determine the concentration of a component (e.g., specific gravity to estimate solids-not-fat or freezing point to determine added water), or to assess the extent of a physical or chemical change (e.g., titratable acidity to follow bacterial action or viscosity to assess aggregation of protein micelles or fat globules). The great advantage of physical measurements for such purposes is their speed and simplicity as well as their potentialities for automation.

Use of physical property to measure concentrations or changes in degree of dispersion demands knowledge of the contribution of the several components to that property. Furthermore, the natural range of variation of the property in milks or products is of major interest. The precision and suitability of possible methods of measurement are also of prime importance.

Introduction

Tree growing in hot arid region is basically concerned with the management of trees for conservation and for limited production objectives like wood for fuel, poles and fencing material; leaves for livestock fodder; and pod/seeds for many types use in human diet. The role of trees to conserve the fragile ecosystems of hot arid regions has been well recognized (Mann and Muthana 1984). The trees also provided so many services to mankind, which make them an intricate part of man-livestock-agriculture continuum, the lifeline of hot arid regions (Saxena 1997). 

Growth of a microorganism implies an increase in amount of protoplasm, formation of new structures and eventually formation of new cells. Balanced growth means cell components increase in proportion to each other and unbalanced growth means cell components increase in a non constant relationship to each other

When bacteria are grown in the laboratory in liquid medium, the medium becomes cloudy or turbid. It is possible to measure the increase in numbers of bacteria at various time intervals and plot the values on a graph representing a growth curve.

Lag Phase: When cells are first inoculated into fresh medium containing all the nutrients they require, they take a short time to adapt before they start to divide. This is termed the lag phase.

Agroforestry systems are more complex than the agricultural systems. The long-term nature of trials involving woody species and the varying objectives of agroforestry trials demand that adequate caution be exercised in their design. Several characteristics of the trees like slow growth, long term effects on their surroundings, long life, age of trees, the area over which the influence of trees extend, etc. complicate the issue of designing experiments for these systems. Agroforestry experiments are often established on marginal sites which include sloping lands, and sites with infertile and degraded soils. It is thus difficult to find homogeneous sites of such problem areas, especially sloping lands where plots along contour lines are long and linear. Germplasm of many agroforestry tree species are usually collected from different origins which lack uniformity. Therefore, experimental materials in an agroforestry experiment may not be of uniform quality.

Customized application development can deliver/fulfill the specialized and specific needs of the users as well as it provides user- friendly environment to the users. There have been applications developed in the past but now applications developed and coupled with the advantage of GIS technologies for various data-handling, spatial analyses and visualization under variable inputs and spatial scales is an innovative approach developed during recent years.The present work encompasses Spatial Agricultural Information and Decision Support System having five modules - Agro-socio-economic-information, Bio- Physical Information, Crop’s Information & Management, and Agriculture DSS Module. This system, developed in a GIS framework, allows managers and planners to rapidly assess land attributes and link these attributes with maps and related infrastructure. Hence, it can facilitate efficient use of existing resource information. The primary database of the software has a Database Update feature which can be utilized by the user using the software to integrate own data into the primary database of the software. With this integration, the software adapts to new data entered and will enable this data to be visualized in GIS platform. The software has been designed keeping in view the requirements of the departments like Department of Agriculture, Department of Land Records etc. In comparison with the commercial GIS applications, the commercial applications are not cost effective if the primary requirement is visualization enabling decision making and basic spatial analysis. The most features available on such software remain un-utilized or they cannot be used without having GIS knowledge. This application is suitable in such scenarios, providing a simple customizable platform for GIS visualization. This software application fits in and serves the line departments and in a way promoting the GIS in the mountainous terrain as it requires very basic or no GIS skill set to operate.

Methods of collection and preservation of insects are the pre-requisite to studying the insects and their various internal and external organs. After collection, it becomes imperative to keep and preserve the insect specimens intact and safe for a longer time to further study the characters or to develop the insect collection museum. R - Enamel can: The acid resistant, gold coloured enamel treated can are called R enamel cans. It is used for canning of acidic food which have soluble colouring pigments.

R factor: It is a group of genes present in some bacteria that provide a basis for resistance to antibiotics and can be transferred from cell to cell by conjugation.

R value: R value is a measure of resistance to the flow of heat through a given thickness of a material (insulation) with higher numbers indicating better insulating properties.

Rabbitto and putridity: The surface taint of the milk caused by Pseudomonas putrefaciens is called rabbitto and putridity.

Racking: An important operation for the wine production which wine is siphoned off or bottom of the vat) and is transferred to a fresh vat with the help of a false bottom. Racking is repeated decanting to remove the slowly setting cloud of the freshly fermented young wine. It is also called clarification. It is synonym to siphoning.

Rad: It is the unit of radiation dose being equivalent to the absorption of 100 erg/g of irradiated material.

Abstract
The present study examines the role of market intelligence in enhancing the efficiency and profitability of India’s agricultural sector. With agriculture contributing about 16-18% of India’s GDP and supporting 58% of the population, optimizing agricultural supply chains is crucial. Through tools like real-time data, AI, and blockchain, market intelligence enables farmers to reduce post-harvest losses estimated at INR 92,000 crores ($12 billion) annually and make informed decisions on crop cycles, pricing, and risk management. Initiatives such as e-NAM and Digital India have expanded access to data, empowering smallholders, who make up 85% of India’s farmers, with valuable market insights. The study presents case studies of successful applications, such as blockchain for organic certification in Sikkim and precision agriculture in Punjab, resulting in 20-30% income growth and 15% higher yields, respectively. Despite challenges like limited rural internet access and high costs, public-private partnerships and increasing smartphone penetration are advancing market intelligence adoption. The findings suggest that as these technologies evolve, market intelligence will be instrumental in driving sustainable growth, mitigating risks from climate variability, and securing India’s food systems for the future.

Orchids are the most beautiful flower and have conquered the cut flower industry all over the world. They are valued for cut flower production and as potted plant. Their beautiful flowers varied in size, shape and colour, long life of flowers on the plants and an amazingly long keeping quality which no other plant can claim.

Spices play important roles in daily life and India is a rich repository of spices. Various biotechnological approaches like micropropagation, somaclonal variation, in vitro conservation, synseed technology, protoplast fusion, production of flavor and coloring components, and development of novel transgenics have great significance in conservation, utilization and increasing the production and productivity of spices. Protocols for micropropagation and production of disease free planting materials are available for many spices. Efficient plant regeneration protocols are also available for exploiting somaclonal variation ,where the available natural variability is relatively low. Technologies for isolation and culture of protoplasts were reported in a few spices. Development of transgenics for disease resistance is gaining momentum. Synseed and Micro-rhizome technology are also available for many spices for safe propagation, conservation, movement, and exchange of germplasm. In vitro and cryo preservation technologies for conservation of spices germplasm are available for many spices.
