Soil is a mass of large variability and thus its sampling is the most challenging problem for any soil analyst. Practically, soil sampling is a two step process which includes (i) collection of soil from homogeneous unit and (ii) processing which in turn includes drying, grinding, sieving, mixing, partitioning and storing.

In a country like India where the economy is dominant by agriculture and its allied sectors, nearly 75% of women are engaged in agriculture in comparison with their male counterparts. Among rural female workers, 50% comprises of agricultural laborer and 37% are cultivators. Not only this, around 70% of total farm work is performed by women folk. Majority of agricultural works are done by women farmers (FAO, 2011) and thus empowering them will have far-reaching effect on agricultural development. They usually operate multiple livelihood f ields, including farming, animal husbandry, and marketing along with doing the household chores and are closely involved in social issues. Among these activities when we look specifically into the agricultural tasks, it is very clear that approximately 70–80% of women are participating in all agriculture activities from raising seedlings, weeding, harvesting and, processing and value addition activities and sometimes their involvement extends to marketing their product. To compete in this fast-growing industry with others, the rural women need to be up-to-date with new technologies to foster the reach of innovations to the farm women. Training is one of the most important means by which farmers and rural women can upgrade their professional and technical skillset. This is an essential component in the area of agriculture where technology is changing day by day and the knowledge of the farming community including women needs to be upgraded at a comparatively quicker pace.

The diffusion of need-based appropriate technologies involves strategically promoting and implementing innovations that meet the specific needs of a community. Utilizing various interactive and engaging techniques such as methods demonstration, group discussion, role play, and exhibitions can significantly enhance the effectiveness of this process.

A demonstration is an educational technique that involves showing or presenting a process, product, or concept in action to an audience. The primary goal of a demonstration is to provide a clear, practical example that enhances understanding and encourages the adoption of new practices or technologies. Demonstrations are often used in educational, training, and outreach programs to effectively convey information and skills.

1. Introduction

Agriculture has always been greatly dependent on climate patterns and variations, and is considered to be particularly at risk to the influences of climate change (James et al., 2014). Climate change is manifest in the form of reduction in rainfall and drought experienced in the last decade, pushing the agrarian community into real distress (MSSRF, 2020). To reduce the adverse impact of climate change on agriculture, adaptation is considered a crucial component of any policy response related with agriculture and climate change (Deressa et al., 2009). Adaptation to climate change involves changes in agricultural management practices in response to changes in climate conditions (Akinnagbe and Irohibe, 2014). Having knowledge about climatic adaptation practices by the farming communities would make them better equipped to deal with climate change related challenges (Mwazi&Ndokosho, 2011). Though smallholder cultivators are one of the most vulnerable groups to climate change, efforts to support their adaptation strategies are hindered by the lack of information on how they are experiencing and responding to climate change (Harvey et al., 2018). Senapati (2019) argues that farm households with access to weather-related information and extension agency contact have lesser level of vulnerability to climate change and enhanced adaptive capacity. Kavi Kumar (2009) contends the need to have region specific adaptation measures in farming as the key to address challenges of climate change.

Routine paraffin wax embedding technique can be conveniently discussed under the following five headings:
Stages of tissue processing
1. Fixation: Stabilizes and hardens tissue with minimal distortions of cells
2. Dehydration: Removal of water and fixative from the tissue.
3. Clearing: Removal of dehydrating solutions, making the tissue components receptive to the infiltration medium.
4. Infiltrating: Permeating the tissue with a support medium.
5. Embedding: Orienting the tissue sample in a support medium and allowing it to solidify.
Fixation-A
It is essential that tissues be fixed as soon as possible after death or removal from the body, and for this reason screw-capped specimen jars containing appropriate fixatives should be permanently kept wherever tissues for histological examination are taken regularly, for example in the operating theatre, the post- mortem room, or the animal house. The amount of fluid in the jars should be 15-20 times the bulk of the tissue to be fixed. Care should be taken to ensure early despatch of the specimens to the histology laboratory in order to avoid over-fixation in intolerant fixatives.
Tissues selected for sectioning should be sufficiently thin to be adequately fixed throughout in a reasonable time. The overall bulk of the tissue determines the volume of fixative required; the thickness will determine the speed of fixation.

The most of the animal population of the world?s lies in regions where frequent seasonal stressors adversely influence the health and productivity. The adaptation of animals to thermal stress is a physiological; biochemical process under endocrine control opens new opportunities to use of endocrine regulation as means of improving thermal tolerance. The animals raised in the semi-arid tropics, usually exhibit low productivity because of shortages of feed and harsh climatic conditions (Maurya et al., 2004). Heat stress can impact animal production and profitability in dairy cattle by lowering feed intake, milk production and reproduction. The animal production is affected by elevated ambient temperature which intern affects the availability of quality feed fodder and water. The indirect effects of climate driven changes in animal performance result mainly from alterations in the nutritional environment of the grazing livestock (Topp and Doyle , 1996). In tropical region most of the time is being spent by animals in the search of feed and fodder. The excess walking stress in the livestock reduces their body condition score and oftenly animal exposed to negative energy balance (Maurya et al., 2010). Under present climate conditions, the lack of ability of animals to dissipate the environmental heat determines that, in many areas in the world, animals suffer heat stress during, at least, part of the year. Heat stress has a variety of detrimental effects on livestock (Fuquay, 1981), with significant effects on milk production and reproduction in dairy cows (Johnson, 1987). The severity of stress and milk production by a cow depends on THI, length of heat stress period, air flow, size of cow, dry matter intake, water availability and coat colour.

At the moment India is world leader in milk production, closely followed by the USA, with a production volume of 84 million tons. More than half of the milk is produced by buffaloes. India has about three times as many ?dairy? animals as the USA, the vast majority (over 80 percent) being kept in herds of 2 to 8 animals. Annual milk yield per dairy animal is about one tenth of that achieved in the USA and about one fifth of the yield of a New Zealand dairy cow. As per India?s National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the country produced 121 mt of milk in 2010-11 fiscal, which comprised about 17% of global production.

Out of the three primary plant nutrients (NPK), potassium (K) is taken up by crop plants in the largest amount, yet as compared to N and P, only a tiny fraction of it goes in the grain or seed. For example, Shivay et al. (2015) reported from a study on rice that about 20 kg N, 6 kg P (13.7 kg P2O5) and 46 kg K (55.2 kg K2O) was taken up by the crop to produce each Mg or tonne (1,000 kg) of rice kernel; however, only 4.3% of K taken up by the crop was found in the rice kernel as compared to 44% of N and 66% of P taken up by the crop. Some information on N, P and K removed per tonne of grain/ seed for some crops is given in Table 9.1.

8.1 Introduction

Considering increased awareness and interest in using herbal products because of their safer nature, the world market of traditional medicinal and aromatic plants is growing at a very fast pace. The global herbal industry is projected to be worth 5 trillion US$ by 2050 (the world bank report, 2000). These resources not only provide primary health care, but also nutraceutical support for wellness. Also, it has been experienced that they may help in curing some of the deadly and painful diseases such as cancer, HIV, AIDS, rheumatism, arthritis etc. India, due to its rich heritage in use of medicinal and aromatic plants under various traditional medicinal systems, which are important source of information about plant properties and use, can become a major player in the global context and can increase its market share substantially. To achieve this, an effective, efficient, and vibrant program is required to cover various aspects of management, research, and development.

Apparel wool: Any wool utilized for the creation of garments, excluding carpet and pulled wool, is referred to as apparel wool.
Bale: A bale is a wool package that contains a designated minimum weight of wool. The wool is compactly packed into bales, entirely covered with new gunny cloth, and secured with multiple iron hoops. Each bale typically weighs between 100 kg and 200 kg, which is considered a standard commercial weight.
Belly wool: Belly wool is the wool that grows on the underside of sheep. Black wool: Black wool encompasses any wool that is black, brown, or gray in colour.
Blending: The process of combining various grades and/or lengths of wool in either their raw or semi-compressed state to produce a specific type of yarn is known as blending.
Blood grade: Blood grade initially indicated the percentage of Merino (fine wool) genetics present in a fleece.
Break: A break is a noticeable weak point along the locks in fleeces, resulting from a decrease in the diameter of the wool fibers. This condition is usually caused by illness, fever, or significant stress.
Bright wool: Bright wool is grease wool that is almost white and exhibits minimal yellow coloration due to excess yolk. Britch or breech wool: Britch or breech wool pertains to the wool harvested from the hindquarters of sheep, which is generally the coarsest section of  the fleece.
Buck fleeces: Buck fleeces are those obtained from mature rams. They are usually longer and coarser than ewe wool from the same breed and possess a distinct ram odour.
Burr: Burr denotes vegetable matter, such as twigs and straw, that can be found in wool.

a) About one’s capabilities, strengths, restrictions, liabilities, available resources, personal and family priorities, own risk taking capacity etc.
b) Scrutinizing all probable and appropriate opportunities existing within the actual conditions and environment where one should start a business entity

Importance of Post Harvest Technology

1.     Proper handling, packaging, transportation and storage reduce the post harvest losses of fruit and vegetables. For every one percent reduction in loss will save 5 million tons of fruit and vegetable per year.

2.     Processing and preservation technology helps to save excess fruit and vegetable during the glut season (off season).

3.     The technology has become a necessity to improve the food safety and strengthen nation’s food security.

4.     The technology helps to boost export of agricultural commodities in the form of preserved and value added products.

5.     Presently mango, pineapple, citrus, grapes, tomatoes, peas, potato and cucumber being processed on a large scale.

3.1 Determination of Bulk Density of Soil

3.1.1 Determination of Bulk Density of an undisturbed Soil

Bulk density of soil is expressed as the ratio of the mass (weight) of soil particle to their total volume including the pore space between the soil particles. Alternately, it is the weight of unit volume of dry soil. It is usually expressed in the unit of gram per cubic centimeter (g/cc) or mega gram per cubic meter (Mg/m³). In fine textured soil bulk density varies from 1.00 to 1.60 g/cc, whereas in coarse textured soil from 1.20 to 1.80 g/cc.

Livestock are homeotherms and has to maintain their body temperature at a fairly constant level through various means of heat gain and heat loss mechanisms. In order to survive in an environment for longer period the energy gain must equal to energy loss. The remarkable interaction has occurred between climate, soil, plants and animals during course of evolution. The maintenance of high level of production in hot regions is difficult as the large amount of heat has to be dissipated besides heat imposed by the environment. Similarly in cold regions, the animal has to produce extra heat to meet the thermoregulatory demand. Considerable variations occur between different species, and between different individual within a species in their capacity to adjust to environmental stress. The farm animals prefer an internal body temperature range from 36-40°C. Normal body temperature of livestock species are:

Cattle: 101-102^oF, Buffalo: 100.5-102°F, Sheep: 102-103°F and Goat: 102.5-103^oF

All the metabolic reactions are under control of various enzymes. The optimum ranges of temperature for activities of these enzymes incidentally fall in the range of normal body temperature. The body keeps its core temperature constant at about 37°C by physiological adjustments controlled by the hypothalamus. A group of neurons, located in anterior hypothalamus, are sensitive to change in skin as well as blood temperature. This hypothalamic centre acts as a “thermostat”. When core body temperature deviated from the thermostat temperature, numerous thermoregulatory mechanisms are initiated to bring back the core body temperature normal. However, in certain instance eg. fever the set point temperature of thermoregulatory control centre is raised. The hypothalamic thermostat works in conjunction with other hypothalamic, autonomic and higher nervous thermoregulatory centers to keep the core temperature constant. Some of these thermoregulatory responses are involuntary, mediated by the autonomic nervous system, some are neurohormonal and others are semi-voluntary or voluntary behavioral responses.

Traumatic reticulitis/ traumatic reticulo-peritonitis (TRP) commonly referred to as hardware disease is a significant condition in ruminants such as cattle, buffalo, sheep, and goats. It results from the ingestion of foreign objects like nails, wires, or pieces of metal, which settle in the reticulum (a compartment of the stomach) and cause injury or perforation of the reticular wall.
Traumatic reticulo-peritonitis (TRP) is a serious condition in ruminants. It occurs when a foreign object, such as a piece of metal, punctures the reticulum(the second compartment of the stomach), leading to inflammation of theperitoneum (the membrane lining the abdominal cavity). This can result in pain, infection, and in severe cases, systemic complications such as abscesses, pericarditis (inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart), or sepsis. Nutritional management is a key aspect in both the prevention and recovery from TRP, as it aids in reducing the risk of ingestion of foreign objects and
supports healing after the condition occur. mThe TRP occurs when ruminants, particularly cattle, buffaloes and sheep ingest sharp foreign objects such as nails, wires, or pieces of metal. Since ruminants
do not chew their food thoroughly during the initial stages of eating, these objects can easily pass into the rumen and then the reticulum. The reticulum’s honeycomb structure makes it susceptible to the penetration of sharp objects. Once a foreign object punctures the reticulum wall, it can cause localized infection (reticulitis) or more widespread inflammation (reticulo-peritonitis), potentially leading to more severe systemic issues such as liver abscesses, pericarditis, and septicemia

Cage and pen systems are increasingly utilized in the rearing of fish seed, especially for coldwater and hill stream species. These systems provide controlled environments that facilitate optimal growth and development of fish from hatchery or wild-caught seed to pre-grow-out sizes before their eventual transfer to growout units or release into the wild. Cages are enclosed structures typically constructed from netting and supported by a floating or fixed framework made of bamboo, wood, or metal. These are deployed in sheltered areas of lakes, rivers, estuaries, or reservoirs. Cages allow continuous water exchange, ensuring fresh, oxygenated water while confining the fish.

• Water flow: Allows free exchange with the surrounding water.
• Application: Ideal for pre-grow-out rearing.
• Advantages: Easy monitoring, efficient space use, reduced land requirement.
Pens are partially enclosed sections of a natural water body, demarcated using netting or barriers. Unlike cages, pens are bottom-open systems where the natural substrate remains accessible. Pens are commonly set up in shallow, calm water bodies such as lakes, bays, or slow-moving rivers.
• Structure: Encloses a section of a water body using fixed net barriers.
• Environment: Mimics more natural conditions compared to cages.
• Usage: Suitable for species requiring substrate interaction.
The wider popularity of cage culture as compared to pen culture may be due to its greater flexibility in terms of siting the structures. For example, cages may be installed in bays, lagoons, straits, and open coasts as long as they are protected from strong monsoonal winds and rough seas. Mobile communication technology has become the world’s most common way of transmitting voice, data and services, and no other technology has ever spread so fast. The mobile phone is especially important for India because it is growing here faster.

Origin and history: Mango is the king of fruits which is grown in India for over 400 years. More than 1000 varieties exist today. It grown in almost all state, India’s share is about 56% of total mango production in the world. Its production has been increasing since independent contributing 39.5% of total fruit production in India. Andhra Pradesh top in the production and Uttar Pradesh is top in area. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal and Gujarat together contribute for about 82% of total production. 

Climate and Soil: Mango thrives well in tropical and subtropical climate. High humidity, rainfall and frost during the flowering period is harmful. The favourable temperature for its cultivation is about 24-27^ºC however, it can tolerant to the temperature up to 48^ºC.

Introduction

It is estimated that zoonotic infections account for around 60% of infectious diseases and 70% of newly developing infections in humans. The major zoonotic illnesses that have outbreaks documented between 2009 and 2023 have been divided into two categories: endemic and emergent (IDSP). Zoonoses that are either newly discovered in a population or that have been known to exist in the past but are rapidly expanding in frequency or geographic range are referred to be emerging zoonotic diseases.A variety of underlying causative variables contribute to the genesis of zoonotic illnesses, which pose a worldwide risk to the health of both humans and animals. They reduce food availability, impede agricultural output, and contribute in unnecessary trade embargos. Livestock is crucial to the livelihoods of impoverished farmers, consumers, and traders in India. Close relationships between human population groups and animals, the consumption of unpasteurized milk and dairy products, the intensification of animal production andincreased trade in animals and animal products, the high number of stray animals, illegal slaughter, and improper waste disposal are major risk factors in the introduction and sustenance of zoonotic infections. These outbreaks are continuously increasing. More and more such episodes of new zoonoses such as Nipah virus disease, Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), Kyasanoor Forest Disease (KFD), Dengue, Chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis, and Zika virus disease have been reported between 2014 and 2023 as compared to the period between2009and 2013.

2.1 Present Situation
Agriculture is a way of life, a tradition, which, for centuries, has shaped the thought, the outlook, the culture and the economic life of the people of India. Agriculture, therefore, is and will continue to be central to all strategies for planned socio-economic development of the country. Rapid growth of agriculture is essential not only to achieve self-reliance at national level but also for household food security and to bring about equity in distribution of income and wealth resulting in rapid reduction in poverty levels.
The onset and growth of extension strategy has so far been in a response to the socio-economic milieu across the World. In addition to socio economic dimensions, the other dimensions like temporal, geographical, ecological, managerial, technological and so on are being ascribed towards modeling extension researches.
The North East part of India is not only unique but also solitary examples in these arenas by having a huge score of bio-diversity, geo-morphological variation and ethno cultural diversity. Still the agriculture is running there with low productivity, poor accessibility to market and splashed with traditional rigmaroles. In hunting out the crux of problems, it has been one of the options to deal with the problems of lithospheric barriers or opportunity, if any, on shaping the extension strategy for upgrading and uplifting the agricultural status of hill eco-system of Manipur.
The present study well encompasses the issues of hilly terrain including the slope and runoff directions for deciding on the befitting extension strategy. The entire slice of research has divided the terrain into high, medium and low altitude to elucidate the altitude specific factors impacting on the crop stands, yield behavior, technological options and market responses.
The empirical study has elicited a unique pattern of altitudinal change on crop husbandry, bio-diversity score, livelihood pattern and situation specific need perception to present ultimately a geo-sensible extension perception. This will be applied towards having a sustainable and comprehensive agro-economic
