The non-glutinous, easily digestible and alkaline forming characteristics make millets superior in nutritional point of view. Among various cultivated millets 6 in India, barn-yard millet, little millet, brown top millet, guinea millet and kodo millet are the most important minor millets (Nazni and Karuna, 2016). The Barnyard millet, Sawa millet or Japanese barnyard produces a crop within six weeks and considered as the fastest growing minor millets among the all minor millet (Veena et al., 2005). Japanese millet or Barnyard has several existing varieties.

1. 1 Introduction, Origin and Taxonomy Barnyard millet (Echinochloa species) is one of the oldest domesticated small millet crops which can be grown in both warm and temperate regions of the world and it is widely cultivated in Asia. It is distributed predominantly in the Indian subcontinent, China, Japan, and Korea and also to some extent in Africa and United States. In India, this crop is mainly grown in Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Gujarat and the hills of Uttarakhand (Kumar et al., 2000). It ranks fourth in terms of production amongst the small millets. Indian Barnyard millet (Echinochloa frumentacea) and Japanese Barnyard millet (Echinochloa esculenta) are the two important species of the barnyard millet. Barnyard millet is majorly grown for human consumption, though it is also grown for livestock feed and fodder (Sood et al., 2015).

The psychological sets that can be barriers to communication can be characterized into several basic categories. These sets can occur in the sender or in the receiver in the communication process. The sender has the ability to recognize these barrier categories when they occur and to transform communication to overcome them. However, the receiver is a different story. If the receiver is interested in communication, he or she can recognize when these barriers arise and can consciously overcome them. On the other hand, when a receiver is passive in the communication process, he or she does not recognize the barriers and the sender can do little to overcome the blockage.

Fact Inference Confusion

The Fact-Inference confusion has three basic components:

• Making an inference for fact

• Failing to recognize

• Acting on the inference as if it were fact

Until the third component occurs, the inference for fact does not really become a barrier to communication. When we act on the inference as if it were a fact is when this barrier becomes a major stumbling block to communication.

Static Viewpoint

Of the barriers to communication, static viewpoint, sometimes called frozen evaluation, is the one that sometimes infects faculty members at colleges and universities. It is a failure to recognize change over time. It may also be a major affliction of our parents who make judgments about your activities based on their experiences as teenagers or young adults without realizing that the mores and standards of society have changed in the intervening twenty or thirty years.

Reports predict that 2050 will be a critical year for global agriculture, with the human population expected to increase by 50% compared to current levels (Future Farms, 2021). India is projected to become the world's most populous nation by mid-century, with an estimated population of 1.6 billion people. This demographic surge will necessitate a 70% increase in food production, underscoring the enduring importance of food security as a primary agenda for agricultural research in the coming decades.

For states that heavily rely on imports for essential commodities such as rice, fruits, and vegetables, it will be crucial to enhance the production and productivity of major crops to mitigate any external shocks in production or demand. This challenge is compounded by the imperative to conserve and optimize the use of natural resources. Recent studies indicate a 6.93% decline in average groundwater recharge in the state over the past decade. Additionally, the increasing pressure to convert agricultural land for non-farming purposes is expected to continue.

1. Introduction
Chemists have been interested in using light as an energy source to trigger chemical reactions since many years. Under the photochemical conditions, molecules absorb light and get electronically excited. Consequently, in comparison to the ground state, the electronic distribution in the molecules is substantially altered in excited states. The reaction spectrum of a family of compounds is significantly expanded. In many cases, a complete synthesis can be greatly shortened by employing photochemical processes, and simple substrates can often yield complex, polycyclic, or highly functionalized molecules. This opens up new avenues in search of physiologically active compounds by providing new product libraries that are hard to obtain using ground-state reaction pathways. The photochemical reactions proved to be very fruitful for organic synthesis. It is because a large number of compounds having both industrial and academic importance required excited state for their synthesis (Glusac, 2016). The compound exhibits different chemical reactions in photochemically excited state (Oelgemöller & Hoffmann, 2016). The light induced chemistry has become a fascinating research area for last several decades. In 1912, Ciamician in his seminal work prophesied the necessity regarding the conversion of solar energy to chemical energy in future and its impact in future life for renewable energy (Oelgemöller & Hoffmann 2016). The need of photochemistry is of utmost importance for some fascinating reactions anticipated in future like splitting of water into oxygen and hydrogen, artificial photosynthesis and even photocatalysis (Fujishima & Honda, 1972; Chu et al., 2017). The familiar light driven reactions include cyclization of conjugated molecules to polycyclic compounds, photodissociations and both intra- and intermolecular proton transfer reactions (Li et al., 2010; Lan et al., 2005; Devine et al., 2008; Ashfold et al., 2006; Blank, 1994; Szabla et al., 2016). The photodissociation reactions occurs through ps* states, the s* orbital is situated around A-B bond (A and B are respectively a heteroatom and leaving group). However, the proton transfer reactions (PT) occur via charge transfer states. In this book chapter we will explore the synthetic utility and applications of Barton reaction.

Basal cell carcinoma is a locally malignant epithelial tumor of skin which is mainly composed of basal cells. This may occur due to mutation in the tumor suppressor gene p53 and chronic exposure to UV radiation.

Cytologically, neoplastic cylindrical columnar cells, are moderate to high in number. The neoplastic cells are small to medium sized with round to spherical nuclei with basophilic cytoplasm (Figure 42 & 43).

22.1 Introduction

Nanotechnology has proved to have infinite potential in increasing the quality of life of the human population. There is however, a growing realization regarding the potential health and safety risks of associated with development, production and application of these nanoparticles. Nanoscale particles are produced from a variety of different processes. Nanoparticles are the end product of a wide variety of physical, chemical and biological processes, some of which are novel and radically different, others of which are quite commonplace. Nanometer sized particles are also found in the atmosphere where they originate from combustion sources (traffic, forest fires), volcanic activity, and from atmospheric gas to particle conversion processes such as photochemically driven nucleation. A large quantity of nanoscale particles are also produced during the various human activities, Welding can generate large quantities of nanoparticles usually in the form of a well defined plume of aggregated nanoparticles.

Basella (Basella alba syn Basella rubra) is also known as Poi, Ceylon spinach, Malabar spinach, Indian spinach or vine spinach. It is a popular leaf vegetable grown in almost all parts of India and widely grown in North-East and South India. Besides India, it is widely cultivated in tropical Asia and Africa. It is a climbing perennial plant, but is sometimes cultivated as an annual vegetable. The plant is succulent with tender leaves. It is a fast growing, productive leaf vegetable for home gardens and market growers. 

Composition
Young shoots and leaves of Basella are a rich source of calcium, iron, and Vitamins A and C.

Uses
Fresh tender leaves and stems are consumed as leaf vegetable after cooking. It is preferable to cook the leaves in soups and stews as half of soluble solids may be lost by boiling in water. Red cultivars contain a colouring matter in leaves, stems and ripe fruits reported as a dye for colouring food. Because of its mucilaginous nature of leaves and stems, it is used as poultice. Juice of leaves is prescribed against constipation, especially for children and pregnant women (Burkill, 1935).

Basella (Basella alba and B.rubra) is a common leafy vegetable grown in practically all countries of Tropical Asia and Africa (Syn.Malabar spinach, Ceylon spinach, India spinach, Vine spinach, etc.). The flavour of this green vegetable is mild and similar to spinach. Basella alba is widely grown in Europe, with the red stemmed varieties in particular being popular as ornamentals. It’s a popular green in Asian, Indian, and even African cuisine, albeit the soft veining shoots are preferred above the leaves in Africa. The Chinese names for Malabar spinach literally translate to “flowing water vegetable.”

1. Individual or mass selection
The terms individual selection and mass selection are often used interchangeably, and they refer to selection solely based on the individual´s phenotype. This is a well-known and widely used method of selection in animal breeding. It can be used on characteristics that can be measured in the candidate animal itself, as weight gain is most efficient in characteristics of high heritability. Individual selection is usually the simplest method to operate and, in many circumstances, it yields the most rapid response. It does not require individual identification or the maintenance of pedigree records, hence, it may be considered the least costly method. In principle, it can produce rapid improvement if the heritability of the trait(s) under selection is high. It can be suitable for growth rate and morphological traits (easily assessed, expressed in both sexes). By contrast, individual selection is not suitable for situations in which the estimation of breeding values requires the slaughter of the animals (carcass and flesh quality traits). When applying individual selection, the evaluated animals must be under equal environmental conditions; therefore, the environmental conditions must be controlled. In this case, the influence of external conditions should be minimal and kept the same for all individuals to be compared at any life cycle stage. In this manner, the probability of correct ranking of the individuals based on thus genetic merit is maximized. Differences between individuals or groups of individuals for environmental factors may reduce the accuracy of the selection substantially, and in that way, can also reduce the possibility for genetic improvement. it is important to form contemporary groups and select within them. To obtain as equal environmental conditions as possible all individuals to be compared should be reared under identical environmental conditions. Therefore, it is important to form groups of animals with similar ages, grown in the same production systems, with similar control of environment, handling, and feeding. However, mass selection may be unsuitable if there is large uncontrolled systematic environmental variation (for example age differences). Additionally, there is no control of inbreeding with mass selection.

India is bestowed with a wide range of agro-climatic and soil conditions. Therefore, almost all types of fruits can be grown in one or the other parts of the country. India is the second largest producer of fruits next to China. In India, fruit crops occupied 6.5 million hectares and it produces 96.75 million metric tonnes of fruits. India has exported fruits worth Rs. 4817.35 crores (692.01 USD Millions) (National Horticulture Board).

Improvement of fruit crops is difficult because of long gestation period, high heterozygosity, scanty information on inheritance pattern, often cross pollination, excessive fruit drop, parthenocarpy and less number of seeds restricting the availability of hybrid seedlings for evaluation. Even though, planned hybridization and clonal selections have been attempted in a number of fruit crops and these efforts have resulted in the development of promising varieties (mango, grape, guava, papaya, sapota, banana, etc). However, systematic and dedicated efforts are still required for the development of ideal varieties through modern tools in fruit crops.

In future, search for desired gene, critical study of inheritance pattern and use of biotechnological tools require due attention in combining ideal characteristics in varietal improvement programme of fruit crops.

The formation of the mammalian body plan is regulated by highly conserved gene regulatory networks. During this developmental stage, the notochord and primitive node play critical roles in establishing the cranial-caudal axis and left-right asymmetry. Ectoderm, the outer germ layer, differentiates into neuroectoderm and surface ectoderm. Neuroectodermal cells move from the developing neural tube’s lateral edges to a dorsolateral position. These neuroectodermal cells are known as neural crest cells. The central nervous system originates from the neural tube, whereas the peripheral nervous system originates from both the neural tube and the neural crest. Mesoderm cells proliferate and develops into three separate components: the paraxial, intermediate, and lateral plate of mesoderm. The paraxial mesoderm cells form whorl-like aggregations known as somitomeres on both sides of the neural plate. Paraxial mesoderm organises into separate blocks known as somites caudal to the seventh somitomere. Somatic cells make up the vast majority of the axial skeleton, accompanying muscle, and covering dermis. The embryonic gut tube, developing respiratory system, and accompanying glands all develop from endoderm, the inner germ layer. Endoderm is also responsible for the epithelial linings of the urinary bladder, middle ear, and auditory tube. Endoderm also gives rise to the parenchymal cells of the thyroid, parathyroid glands, pancreas, and liver.

Irrigated agriculture is playing a major role in enhancing food and livelihood security of a country. Supply of fresh water which is an importantinput for the sustainable and economic development of agriculture are not enough to meet the requirement of all sectors of economy. Reduced water availability to agriculture from the present share of 85% of country’s water resources to about 70-75% by 2020AD wouldaffect the capacity of the country to meet the food production target, unless supplies are augmented from unconventional sources. Landform, water and plants form the three basic elements of garden designing. Each of these basic element is described and discussed in detail.

I Landform

“Landform” refers to three-dimensional relief of earth’s surface. Thus, in simple words it is the lay of land, synonymous with, “topography”. Land is defined as the surface of the earth and all its natural resources. Landform is thus 3-D view of earth’s surface including all the visible feature of an area of land and landscape refers to the picture representing a view of natural inland scenery. Landform is the common module in exterior environments, a base, an axis, a thread, which ties all the physical elements, space together along the horizon or the water edge. Landforms can be classified as macro-landforms, micro-landforms and mini-landforms. Macro-landforms refers to valleys, mountains, rolling hills, prairies, desert, seashore and plains. Micro-landforms refers to mounds, slopes, level areas or elevation changes using steps and ramps. Mini-landforms refers to subtle, undulations or ripples of a sand dunes or the textural variation of stones and rocks.

Different techniques are used for explaining and representing the type of landform. These include (i) Contour lines, (ii) Models, (iii) Ratio method, (iv) Value and colour, (v) Spot elevation, (vi) Computer graphics, (vi) Hatches (disconnected lines are used) and (viii) Percentage method. These techniques are used for proper study of the landform, to identify loopholes and need to modification in order to establish proper drainage or to modify the site in order to accommodate of various elements or to create an aesthetically pleasing ground plan.

Sustainable agriculture’s benefit to farm and community economies is grounded in four well-established economic development principles and a fifth, concern for the community:

Lower input farming system (LIFS)

Lower input farming system means reduced production levels with larger area of land used in order to maintain the same revenue; or reduced dependency on external inputs with similar production structure but improved valorization of the product through transformation and or direct marketing, cutting the length of the production chain is a sustainability concept (produce and consume locally). LIFS are seeking optimization of on-farm resources, minimization of off-farm resources use. It also leads to mixed farming system, characterized by animal valorization of vegetal production on farm and organic manure restitution to farm soil from farm husbandry. Mixed character of farming system optimally combines annual and perennial crops and animal production on the same farm. Lower input farming also maintains ecological infrastructures (at least 5% in integrated farming)-which prove to be very beneficial for biodiversity – can provide shelter for organisms providing biological control and also be a source of raw material (wood) for producing on-farm energy.

2.1 Introduction

In a fiber optic sensor the heart of the sensor is an optical fiber. An optical fiber in its simplest form is a cylindrical symmetric structure consisting of a central ‘core’ glass/plastic of uniform refractive index and of diameter 4-600 µm. It is surrounded by a ‘cladding’ glass/plastic of slightly lower refractive index. To provide the mechanical and environmental protection to the fiber, the cladding is covered with an external plastic coating (seeFig. 2.1). The light in the fiber propagates by bouncing back and forth from the core-cladding interface. The design of the fiber optic sensor depends critically on the choice of optical fiber. Telecommunication fibers are inexpensive but may not be the right choice for sensors. Some of the fiber optic sensors dictate the use of application-specific optical fibers. In this chapter we shall first describe ray analysis for the light propagation in the fiber. The modes propagation, numerical aperture of the fiber, fiber characteristics and different kinds of optical fibers used for sensing will be described later.

Gardens have been considered important, sacred from ancient time and the styles developed being inspired form its surroundings. Thus the influences of climate, general landform, religion, spiritual vision, culture, nation, prevailing political conditions, social factors, architectural styles, etc have influenced in developing specific garden style in a particular region. These styles developed slowly over hundreds of years and remained insulated and remained intact till the travelling approach between different countries got well established. Later as the mobility between different countries became widespread, these style forms became intermingled and refined even to new forms. This resulted into the development of Japanese garden style or the arts of ‘bonsai’ making which had its origin in China, or the creation of west coast American garden that originated from the Bauhaus and modern movement that stated life in Germany, the mughal garden style in India based on Persian style from Iran etc.

Basically, the different garden styles can be classified into formal, informal, intermediate and wild garden styles. Aristotle, the father of mathematics and Pythagorus, the father of geometry and disciple of Aristotle, strongly influenced the geometry, mathematics and calculative features of formal garden style. While informal garden style have evolved from the eastern vision of thoughts, originated with Laotsu and Confucious contemplation (preaching) that manifested gardens to express peaceful and compassionate atmosphere influencing meditation, silence and internal harmony.

2.1 Introduction

Microbes are the oldest form of the life on earth. These organisms date more than 3 billion years to a time when they were discovered with oceans. They are so tiny in size that million microbes can fit into the eye of a needle. Without microbes, we can’t live. Thus, understanding microbes is vital to understanding past and future. Microbes play many roles in the earth’s environment recycling dead plant and animal matter through the soil, removing CO2 from the atmosphere by photosynthesis in the oceans and nitrogen from the atmosphere to form nitrogenous fertilizers plants. Microbes play an important role in nutrient recycling, management, organic matter, decomposition and increasing the crop productivity and quality and protection against diseases (Panwar et al., 2009). Over the past century, many of the basic scientific principles of plant nutrition and soil fertility have been explained. In developed countries, inorganic chemical fertilizers have been widely accepted as a major source of improving and maintaining soil fertility.

To understand how radiographs are produced by using X-rays, an understanding of how photons of diagnostic range can interact with matter is necessary in five possible mechanism of interaction:

1. General Instructions

Instructions to work in the laboratory are given below. Students are advised to read them carefully before they begin their work in the laboratory.

• Apparatus to be used should be neat and clean.
• Graduated pipette should be used for pipetting.
• The small amount of liquid remaining in the pipette should not be blown out while standardizing the pipettes; allowance is always made for this. However, a frosted ring near the top of recently manufactured pipettes indicates that the last drop is to be blown out.

Introduction

Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) viz., Heterorhabditis, Neosteinernema and Steinernema have been recovered from many regions of the world and have been used commercially as biocontrol agents of insect pests. They are associated with mutualistic bacteria in the genus Xenorhabdus for Steinernematidae and Photorhabdus for Heterorhabditidae. The infective juvenile nematodes enter their host insect through natural openings (mouth, anus or spiracles), they release bacteria into the insect and cause rapid death of insect host (24-48 h). EPNs were used against many insect pests viz., rice leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Srinivas and Prasad, 1991); tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura (Rajkumar et al., 2003); brinjal fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis (Hussaini et al., 2002) diamond back moth, Plutella xylostella (Singh and Shinde, 2002); Diaprepes abbreviates (Jenkins et al., 2007); Bemesia tabaci (QiuBaoli et al., 2008) and sugar beet beetle (Saleh et al. 2009).

Abstract

The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool, or BLAST, is an online tool provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) that allows users to search for matches between their query sequences and the sequences stored in NCBI databases. BLAST can be used to search for nucleotide sequences against nucleotide sequences, protein sequences against protein sequences, and protein sequences against translated nucleotide sequences in the databases. BLAST is widely used to study sequence similarity, identify target sequences, analyze the functional aspects of molecular sequences, and investigate evolutionary relationships. This chapter details on the BLAST and its applications.

Molecular biology involves the study of DNA, RNA and proteins in cells. It emphasizes the biomolecules that carry out biological processes. One should understand the biomolecules participating in the process to understand the cellular function. In diagnostic microbiology, biomolecules are the analytes for testing and characterization. The analytes for molecular testing are the genomes (DNA), transcriptomes (RNA) and proteomes (Proteins) of the microorganism. Traditional methods of microorganism characterization depend on the culturing of the organisms, which is time-consuming and sometimes challenging to perform. Molecular techniques involve the characterization of DNA, RNA and protein to identify microorganisms. Nucleic acid sequence details are used to classify bacterial species, and mass spectrometry is used to identify microorganisms based on peptide profiles.

DNA (Deoxy ribonucleic acid)
DNA contains the genetic information required for the development and functioning of the living organism. It is the central informational molecule comprising a sequence of A, T, G and C nucelotides linked together by a phosphodiester bond. DNA is double helical in structure, composed of two complementary strands of nucleotides held together by hydrogen bonds between nitrogenous bases.

The basic philosophy of nutrient management should be to apply fertilizers at rates to ensure high fertilizer use efficiency so that the amount of unutilized fertilizers is reduced to environmentally acceptable levels. Leaching of nitrate into public drinking water supplies has become a national problem. There is no realistic alternative but to use increasing quantities of inorganic fertilizers for maintaining food supplies in order to feed the increasing population. We are blessed with solar energy in abundance at no cost. The solar radiation incident on the surface of the earth can be conveniently utilized for the benefit of human society. Solar energy can be used as thermal energy for water heating, cooking, drying, distillation, space heating, cooling and power generation or it can be converted to electricity through photovoltaic cells, commonly known as solar cells. One of the popular devices that harness the solar energy is solar hot water system (SHWS). Flat plate collectors are used for low temperature applications (below 100^oC) while concentrators are preferred for higher temperatures. The most efficient application of flat plate collector is for getting hot water. Hot water in winter is an essential requirement for domestic uses such as bathing, cleaning of utensils and washing of clothes. In rural areas hot water is also required for softening of animal feed. Generally it is obtained by using firewood and cow dung cake in rural areas or using kerosene, liquid petroleum gas, coal or electricity in urban areas. Therefore, the use of solar water heaters will conserve lot of commercial and non-commercial fuels which are being wasted in merely getting hot water. A solar water heating system (SWHS) is made of several important elements: one or more solar collectors, a pump, a heat exchanger, a storage tank (or multiple tanks) and a back-up storage tank. The Solar heating system can be classified as passive or active. For water heating purposes, the general practice is to use flat plate solar energy collectors (FPC). The evacuated tube collectors (ETC) and evacuated tube heat pipe collectors (ETHP) are more efficient, though, the initial cost is comparatively higher. There are three type of water heaters extensively studied by various workers viz. natural circulation, collector-cum-storage and forced circulation in all over the world.

Introduction

Solar refrigeration technology engages a system where solar power is used for cooling purposes. It offers a wide variety of cooling techniques powered by solar collector-based thermally driven cycles and photovoltaic (PV)-based electrical cooling systems. Cooling can be achieved through four basic methods: solar PV cooling, solar thermal cooling, solar thermo-electrical cooling and solar thermo-mechanical cooling. The first is a PV-based solar energy system, where solar energy is converted into electrical energy and used for refrigeration much like conventional methods. The second method utilizes a solar thermal refrigeration system, where a solar collector directly heats the refrigerant through collector tubes instead of using solar electric power. The third one produce cool by thermoelectric processes. The fourth method converts the thermal energy to mechanical energy, which is utilized to produce the refrigeration effect.

Molecular diagnostic laboratory set-up has basic requirements of space, laboratory benches and equipments. In terms of laboratory space, minimum four chambers, one each for sample preparation and nucleic acid extraction, PCR reaction mixture preparation, thermal cycling and gel analysis are required. 3.1 UV-VIS spectrophotometer

A spectrophotometer is required for determining the quality and quantity of nucleic acids extracted from a sample. Photometric research applications such as DNA, RNA and protein analysis can be carried out in a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. There are various units that feature a broad wavelength range (including UV area), path length correction and a fast reading speed. Various instruments also provide an interface that allows quick measurements directly from the instrument or comprehensive easy-to use software for demanding assays.

The processing operations are carried out based on the principle of physical differences found in a seed lot.

This chapter introduces the fundamental chemical characteristics of soils, with particular emphasis on exchangeable bases, cation exchange and anion exchange. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) is discussed as an important indicator of the soil's capacity to retain and exchange nutrient cations. The chapter explains the principles and reactions involved in cation exchange, cation selectivity and the determination and expression of CEC. Relationships between CEC, soil pH and particle size are also considered, together with the concept of base saturation. These properties are important for understanding nutrient availability and fertilizer management in different soil types. The chapter further introduces the mechanism of nutrient uptake by plant roots, linking soil chemical reactions with plant nutrition.
