Steps of calf management 1.  Removal of mucous • Immediately after birth:  removal of mucous or phlegm from nostril, mouth, eyes & ears for normal breathing. • Rub and dry the calf with a dry cloth or gunny bag • If cow not licking: sprinkle a little common salt on calf’s body. • If calf does not start breathing: Provide artificial respiration by: • Compressing and relaxing the chest with hands • Swinging • Inserting twig in nostril 2.  Ligation of naval cord • Cutting of naval cord: ligate-2.5cm & cutting-1cm below.

Introduction

Food is the most basic necessity for man. Plants are primary producers of food. Plants are the very pivot of our existence on earth and without plants the earth would be without life. The success or failure of crop production relies on interaction among varieties/genotypes, inputs used, environment and management factors. Plant diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses, phytoplasmas and nematodes reduce crop yields (Khoury and Makkouk, 2010). Arid fruit crops like ber, aonla, date palm, pomegranate and vegetables like watermelon/mateera, kachri, snapmelon, muskmelon, ridge gourd and sponge gourd are mostly grown in Central and Western India. Horticultural crops can be infected by wilt, leaf spots (due to excessive moisture), mosaic and post harvest fruit rots. These diseases are major challenges in the cultivation of horticultural crops in India. Disease incidence in a crop is governed with the seed materials used and environment surrounding seed/plant.

Indian Agriculture is facing a wide spectrum of constraints such as burgeoning population, shrinking farm land, restricted water availability, imbalanced fertilization, low soil organic carbon, besides experiencing the fatigue of green revolution and vagaries of climate change. To address all the challenges ahead, we should think of an alternate technology such as “nanotechnology” to precisely detect and deliver the correct quantity of nutrients or other inputs required by crops that promote productivity while ensuring environmental safety. The word “nano” refers to the size of one-billionth of a metre or one-millionth of a millimeter in any one of the dimension. We are aware that all materials are made up of atoms which are the smallest units and for example, ten hydrogen atoms put together will measure one nanometer. As the size gets reduced, the surface area gets increased by several folds.

One of the most important aspects of describing distribution is the central value around which the observations are distributed. A statistical measure used for representing the centre of central value of a set of observations is known as “Measure of Central Tendency”. This central value is also called as ‘Average’. The commonly used measures of central tendency are as follows;

4.1 Research Setting

In any social science research, it is hardly possible to conceptualize and perceive the data and interpret the data more accurately until and unless a clear understanding of the characteristics in the area and attitude or the behavior of people is at commending by the interpreter who intends to unveil an understanding of the implication and behavioral complexes of the individual who lives in the area under reference and form a representative part of the larger community. The socio-demographic background of the local people in a rural setting has been critically administered in this section. A research setting is a surrounding in which input and elements of research are contextually imbibed, interactive, and mutually contributive to the system performance. The research setting is immensely important in the sense because it is characterizing and influencing the interplays of different factors and components.

In recent decades, severe weather and climatic occurrences have become more frequent, affecting human populations across the globe. These changes are caused, in part, by anthropogenic climate change. Vulnerable communities are particularly affected by these rapidly changing patterns, which can have catastrophic consequences. To mitigate the impact of climate change, communities must have access to accurate and up-to-date climate information. Weather predictions, from short-term forecasts to long-term scenarios based on data from previous decades and centuries, can provide valuable information to socioeconomic sectors that are vulnerable to climate change. Climate services offer scientifically-based data and forecasts that can assist decision-makers in managing the risks of climate variability and change. Globally accepted indices generated from daily temperature and precipitation data can indicate the more severe features of climate change. These indices are developed and analyzed by the CCI/WCRP/JCOMM Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI) and have made a significant contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Reports.

Raising healthy and productive animals is a cornerstone of successful livestock farming. Whether the goal is milk production, meat, draught power or breeding, the foundation of a thriving animal enterprise lies in appropriate general management and feeding practices that consider the animal’s stage of growth, reproductive status and work requirements. Each class of animal—calves, heifers, pregnant and lactating females, dry animals, bulls and working animals—has unique physiological needs that must be addressed through specialized care and nutrition. Modern animal husbandry aims not just at higher productivity but also at ensuring animal welfare, sustainability and profitability. Scientific and stage-specific practices improve the animals' lifetime performance and reduce mortality, disease incidence and reproductive failure. In this context, proper rearing practices are not merely a routine, but a strategic necessity. The calf represents the future of the herd. Ensuring its survival, growth and development is crucial for long-term productivity

Volumetric analysis is a quantitative analysis. It involves the measurement of the volume of a known solution required to bring about the completion of the reaction witha measuredvolume of the unknown solution.

The increasing concerns about dwindling biological resources globally led to the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1992. This convention for the first time, recognized sovereign rights of States over their biological resources and emphasized that access to genetic resources should be only for environmentally sound purposes and should be subject to national legislations. The access has to be on mutually agreed terms which inter-alia would include recognition of associated Traditional Knowledge of indigenous communities and equitable benefit sharing arrangements.

Soil is the fundamental resource in the agricultural production systems and monitoring its fertility is critical to the sustainability of agriculture. Plant nutrients undergo different transformation processes through which they are converted from unavailable to available forms. Nutrient cycling thus involves the transformation and availability of nutrients and is mediated by microbial action. Understanding the dynamics of nutrient and soil organic matter transformations requires an understanding of the biological, chemical, and physical processes involved.

7.1. Soil Nitrogen

Artificial intelligence and machine learning provide the technological foundation for intelligent agricultural applications. This chapter introduces supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning, model-development pipelines, feature engineering and evaluation metrics. It explains how algorithms can be selected and implemented for agricultural datasets that may be noisy, incomplete, variable or weakly labelled. Advanced topics include deep-learning architectures, transfer learning and model optimization. Practical considerations involving preprocessing, interpretability and deployment constraints are also discussed. Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum and Nakai) is an important cucurbit crop throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the globe. It is an annual creeping vine and native to the Southern part of Africa, most probably the areas around the Kalahari Desert. Presently, more than 1200 cultivars have been developed and are being grown in nearly 122 countries with tropical and subtropical climates. Watermelon is mainly valued for its ripe ‘pepo’ fruits which are consumed as fresh-cut dessert or as juice. The fruits are a rich source of carotenoids, minerals, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, vitamin C and Citrulline, a non-essential amino acid. The red colour of the watermelon flesh is due to the presence of lycopene, the content of which is 40% more than that of tomato. Besides, there is good variation available for f lesh colour ranging from red, pink, yellow, orange, white and green. Owing to the ability to prevent several chronic diseases due to the presence of pigments like lycopene, anthocyanin, carotene, xanthophyll etc., presently watermelon is also considered as a functional food. The exocarp (rind) is also consumed as stewed, pickled or stir-fried or may be used for the preparation of ‘tooty fruity’. Watermelon seeds are considered a good omen and are gifted during Chinese New Year in East Asia. The seeds are also used in the baking and confectionary industries as these contain a characteristic nutty flavour. The seeds are also rich in protein, vitamins as well as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

The natural economic movement of a country goes from agrarian economy which is the primary sector to an industrial economy (secondary sector) and then only to the tertiary sector i.e., service economy. But due to various socio-economic factors, India has jumped from an agrarian economy to a service economy in the past and had a low growth in secondary sector.

Though primary sector is vital, there is a natural limit on how much can be extracted from this. The country is witnessing a peak in food grains production (285.21 million tonnes) nonetheless rupees 92,000 crores worth food grains are wasted annually (MOFPI annual report 2018-19). Hence, with an increasing population, decreasing arable land (52.6%), irrigation water resources and with present level of climate change scenario, food processing should be considered as a need to enhance the profitability and sustainability of agriculture in the country (Swaminathan and Bhavani, 2013). Thus, effective post-harvest management is one of the strategies for envisaging an evergreen revolution along with increasing yields. A well-developed food processing industry increases farm gate prices reduce wastages, ensure value addition, promote crop diversification, generate employment opportunities as well as export earnings.

The word physiology initially meant for that branch of biology which deals with the function of living organisms.Physiology can be defined as the study of mechanisms of body functions. Physiology is concerned with the way the various systems of the body function and the way each contributes to the functions of the body as a whole.Thus, physiology not only seeks to define the functions of living organisms like feeding, digestion, respiration, transport of gases in the blood, circulation and functions of the heart, excretion and kidney functions, muscle and movement, reproduction etc but also seeks to answer to ‘why’ and ‘how’ all these functions are regulated.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are characterized as Gram-positive cocci or rods, non-aerobic but aerotolerant, able to ferment carbohydrates for production of energy and lactic acid. Lactic acid bacteria includes different major genera: Lactococcus, Enterococcus, Lactosphaera, euconostoc, Melissococcus, Oenococcus, Pediococcus, Streptococcus, Tetragenococcus, Vagococcus and Weissella. Other genera are Aerococcus, Microbacterium, Propionibacterium and Bifidobacterium. Through carbohydrate fermentation along with lactic acid, various organic acids are produced due to which there is a fall in pH level and creates unfavorable environment or inhibits growth of some undesired microorganisms. The low pH makes organic acids lipo -soluble, allowing them to invade into cytoplasm of pathogens by rupturing cell membrane. LAB are generally regarded as safe (GRAS), and have a significant role in the preservation of foods and fermented products. Under controlled conditions they can be used as natural competitive microbiota or as specific starter cultures. Antagonistic substance like bacteriocins are produced from lactic acid bacteria that inhibits the activity and growth of other bacteria and these bacteriocins are active against various pathogens in minimum concentration. These are antimicrobial peptides modified by post -translational mechanisms and exported to the extracellular medium. Till date about 239 bacteriocin producing LAB genome and 789 putative bacteriocin producing genes cluster are stored in the public databases. Many gram positive and gram negative bacteria in the environment produce bacteriocins.

Chilli or hot pepper, the Capsicum species (principally Capsicum annuum) under the family Solanaceae (Chromosome No. 2n =2x =24) is a tropical vegetable-cum spice crop commonly used throughout the world as spice for its pungency and red colour of ripe dried fruits and also for its green fruits for pungency and flavour.
Origin, domestication and adaptation in India
It is generally accepted that the Capsicum genus belonging to the family Solanaceae was originated in Bolivia which consists of 25–30 species. Five of these Capsicum species viz., C. annuum, C. baccatum, C. chinense, C. frutescens, and C. pubescens were domesticated. The largest group of varieties is found under C. annuum which is grown worldwide. Both hot pepper and sweet pepper belonging to the same species Capsicum annuum originated from the wild and weedy Capsicum annuum var. minimum distributed from the southern United States to the northern South America. The primary centre of origin of chilli is in southern and central America and secondar centre in Guatemala.

We will examine the sophisticated methodologies and technologies employed by meteorological agencies and research institutions worldwide to predict the onset, duration, intensity, and spatial distribution of monsoon rains. This includes an overview of empirical models leveraging historical climate data, the increasing reliance on complex dynamical models that simulate atmospheric and oceanic processes, and the integration of advanced statistical techniques like Bayesian methods and downscaling to enhance forecast accuracy and regional specificity. Understanding the strengths and limitations of these cutting-edge forecasting techniques is crucial for effective water resource management, agricultural planning, disaster preparedness, and ultimately, for building resilience in monsoon-dependent regions.
