There is growing demand for increasing fruit production as fruits are considered to be healthy, nutritious and easy to digest. Fruits are natural foods and have export potential as well as provide opportunities for increasing employment by establishing fruit processing industries. Some of the fruits can be grown around the year where as some fruits are of seasonal in nature. Usually, the fruit cultivation is undertaken by establishing orchards. In case of orchards, wrong decisions in planting may result in huge loss and therefore right method of planting is the key factor for establishing orchards.
The fruit crops are of three types depending on the adoptability to the climate of the region and are grouped as
• tropical fruits
• sub-tropical fruits
• temperate fruits
The microclimate of the orchards depends upon
• height of the plants/trees
• horizontal spread
• canopy architecture
• spacing/plant density
• age of plantation
• seasonal weather
15.1. Tropical Fruits
The tropical fruits require higher temperature throughout the year. The crops do not require low temperature for breaking dormancy and for flowering. The plants are ever green and grow throughout the year. There plants are well adopted to regions where the minimum temperatures are more than 10°C and very sensitive to frost. There are grown in tropical regions between 23°N to 23°S latitudes. The optimum maximum temperature for growth and development ranges from 30 to 37°C.
15.2. Sub-Tropical Fruits
The sub-tropical fruits perform better between temperate and tropical climates as the plant requires both high and low temperatures. Some of the fruit crops are green and some of those are deciduous. The temperate fruit crops are very sensitive to frost. The sub-tropical fruit plants break dormancy of flower buds

Concept of Inventory

‘Inventory’ may be defined as ‘usable but idle resource’. If resource is some physical and tangible object such as materials, then it is generally termed as stock. Thus stock or inventory are synonymous terms though inventory has wider implications. Broadly speaking, the problem of inventory management is one of maintaining, for a given financial investment, an adequate supply of something to meet an expected demand pattern. This could be raw materials work in progress finished products or the spares and other indirect materials. Inventory can be one of the indicators of the management effectiveness on the materials management front. Inventory turnover ratio (annual demand/average inventory) is an index of business performance. A soundly managed organization will have higher inventory turnover ratio and vice-versa. Inventory management deals with the determination of optimal policies and procedures for procurement of commodities. Since it is quite difficult to imagine a real work situation in which the required material will be made available at the point of use instantaneously, hence maintaining, inventories becomes almost necessary. Thus inventories could be visualized as ‘necessary evil’.

Flooding

Flooding affects both above and below ground ecosystem processes in greenhouses. Below-ground changes may be less obvious, they are as important as the above-ground changes. Soil microorganisms are sensitive to disturbance, and shifts in soil microbial community structure are expected when anaerobic conditions develop from flooding. The useful aerobic microbes are destroyed by flooding. It takes time to built-up their population in the soil to benefit plants. Due to anaerobic condition created by flooding in greenhouse plant roots in soil are not able to breath, function and hence wilting of plants occurs. Flood irrigation in excess create flood like condition in greenhouses at time. Excess water in soils is a major factor affecting plant survival and functioning. In saturated soils, the supply of atmospheric oxygen into the soil is curtailed and various facultative and obligate anaerobic microorganisms use oxidized compounds as electron acceptors for respiration, thus converting them to reduced forms. The reduction and the associated processes influence plant survival, growth and functioning in wetlands. Flood irrigation should always be just wet the soil not flood inviting stagnation of water.

A chain of reactions is initiated upon soil flooding leading to reduced soil redox potential conditions. These reactions include physical, chemical and biological processes that have significant implications on plants growth. Physical processes include restriction of atmospheric gas diffusion in the soil leading to depletion of soil oxygen and accumulation of carbon dioxide. Shortly after flooding, the limited supply of oxygen in soil pore spaces is depleted rapidly by roots, microorganisms, and soil reductants. This process leads to oxygen depletion and reduction in soil oxidation reduction potential followed by a chain of soil chemical changes. The processes that follow include denitrification, reduction of iron, manganese and sulphate, and changing soil pH

They are sustainable and environmentally friendly, as they often involve practices that can be integrated into routine crop management.
In this chapter, we will explore various cultural practices, including crop rotation, sanitation, planting time and spacing, irrigation management, and more. These techniques form the foundation of integrated disease management (IDM) and can be used in combination with other control measures for effective disease control.
Importance of Cultural Methods in Disease Management
Cultural practices serve as preventive measures to minimize disease outbreaks by influencing the interaction between the host, pathogen, and environment. By modifying farming practices, it is possible to:
a) Reduce Pathogen Inoculum: Prevent the initial development of pathogens in the field.
b) Limit Pathogen Spread: Break the life cycle of pathogens and reduce the spread to healthy plants.

This chapter focuses on the structure, classes, properties and biological functions of immunoglobulins. It introduces the basic antibody molecule, including heavy and light chains, variable and constant regions, antigen-binding sites and Fc fragments. The characteristics of IgG, IgM, IgA, IgE and IgD are examined in relation to their distribution and immune functions. Introduction

The contribution of public extension in attaining self-reliance in food production is very well recognized. But in this changing time of globalization, public extension alone is not sufficient to address the multi-faceted problems faced by farmers. Also the performance of public sector extension is under scrutiny. Rivera et al (2000) reported that the public extension system is now seen as outdated, top-down, paternalistic, inflexible, subject to bureaucratic inefficiencies and therefore unable to cope with the dynamic demands of modern agriculture.

1. MIXING AND DIVIDING

The main objective of mixing and dividing of seeds is to obtain the representative homogenous seed sample for analysis by reducing the submitted sample to the desired size of working sample.

2. TYPES OF MECHANICAL DIVIDERS

2.1. Boerner divider

The principle involved in mixing and dividing in gravitational force. It consists of a hopper, a cone and series of baffles directing the seeds into 2 spouts. The baffles are of equal size and equally spaced and every alternate one leading to one spout. They are arranged in circle and are directed inward. A valve at the base of the hopper retains the seeds in the hopper. When the valve is opened, the seeds fall by gravity over the cone where it is equally distributed and approximately equal quantity of seeds will be collected in each spout. A disadvantage of this divider is that it is difficult to check for cleanliness (Fig. 1).

Many human illnesses are contacted from animals and plants; and are also due to imbalance in the environment. Mental, emotional and relational symptoms seen in humans are absent in animals. Nevertheless, careful observations on the behavior of the animal and its relation with others may play key role in homeopathic prescribing in animals. It has been found from the study that for the independent variable Family size (x1 ), the maximum is 9.00, and minimum is 2.00 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 38.124 per cent, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is high. For Average family education (x2 ), the maximum is 6.00, and minimum is 1.250 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 33.074, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is high. Average age (x3 ) of the respondents, the maximum is 58.00, and minimum is 12.500 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 35.341, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is high. The study reveals that Average family income (x4 ), the maximum is 10833.00, and minimum is 3666.00 where Coefficient of variation is 30.796, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is high and Family land holding (x5 ), the maximum is 5.500, and minimum is 1.00 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 38.241, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution Family land of holding is high. In the study maximum and minimum House type (x6 ) of the respondents are 9.00 and 2.00 respectively where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 30.399, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is high. In case of material possession (x7 ), the maximum is 13.00, and minimum is 1.00 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 70.780, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is medium. Source of information for migration (x8 ), the maximum is 4.00, and minimum is 1.00 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 35.679, which shows that the distribution of the variable is high. It has been found from the study that for the independent variable money required for migration (x9 ), the maximum is 5.00, and minimum is 1.00 where Coefficient of variation of this variable is 26.639 per cent, which shows that the level of consistency in the distribution is high.

Veterinary ultrasonographer has to write report of ultrasonography in different animals. The proper ultrasound report writing is the moral duty of the vet ultrasonographer. The accuracy of diagnosis must be ensured. The poor resolution/quality of machine may lead to erroneous diagnosis. Therefore, veterinarian must ensure good quality of machine and proper diagnosis. The report might be different in different animals e.g. report writing about uterus will be different in bitch, cows, buffaloes, camel, horse, goat and sheep. However following might be guidelines in writing ultrasound report of uterus. fetus, endometrium

Uterus: Position of uterus, contents in the uterus, shape and size in initial pregnancy and infections, appearance of myometrium, thickening of uterine layers, presence or absence of fluied/pus/masses, left and right horns and their contents. Observations on the images of uterine fluid and its echoicity, membrane appearance in pregnant animals. Special attentions should be paid to endometrium.

Endometrium: Appearance and thickness; any growth on the surface of endometrium. Images of retained portion of placenta can be ascribed in the cases of retained placenta.

Ovary: Ovaries are scanned to assess cyclic structures, size, shape, its Position/ location and internal echo pattern of follicles. This echo pattern will indicate whether follicle is normal, cystic or with any other abnormalities of follclular f luid. Ultrasound reports also include shape and size of corpus luteum. In cows and buffaloes, presence of cavity, looseness/compactness of luteal cells are also mentioned.

Biological control is an important component of sustainable agriculture, offering an eco-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides and contributing to integrated disease management (IDM).
Key Mechanisms of Biological Control
1. Predation: Certain organisms, like Trichoderma species or predatory mites, directly attack and consume plant pathogens, reducing their population.
2. Parasitism: Some fungi, like Ampelomyces quisqualis, parasitize plant pathogens, such as powdery mildew, thereby suppressing their growth and reproduction.
3. Antibiosis: Microorganisms like Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescens produce antibiotics that inhibit the growth or kill plant pathogens. For example, Bacillus subtilis produces iturin, which suppresses fungal growth.

Definition: Marketing strategy is the complete and unbeatable plan, designed especially for attaining the marketing objectives of the firm/business unit.
