Arthropod life began very early in Palaeozoic region, about 600 million years ago in the sea. The arthropod foundations were laid with the evolution of metamerism in segmented worms, and in the ancestral arthropods it resembled the now extinct Trilobites. They had harder cuticle forming the exoskeleton and a pair of jointed legs with each of its metameric segments.

The Trilobite stock soon diversified into:

a) Chelicerates.

b) Mandibulates.

a) Chelicerates: In Chelicerates, the anterior body segments fused to form the prosoma, bearing a pair of chelicerae, the feeding organs; a pair of pedipalps and four pairs of walking legs. The remaining segments formed the legless opisthosoma. This gave rise to Eurypterids (Extinct) Xiphosurians, Pycnogonids and the highly successful Arachnids, including the scorpions, spiders, ticks and mites.

Symptoms
Alternaria leaf spot usually appear in early stage in cauliflower while at later stage symptoms in cabbage appear as circular light brown spot in leaves. Concentric rings are clearly visible on the spots. In older plants on leaves, petioles and stem, brown to black circular to slightly elongated spots appear.

The old orchards become non-productive due to incidence of pest and diseases and neglect, once the orchard becomes old its productivity goes down, and it is general tendency of the farmers to neglect the orchard. In pomegranate when the survey was conducted it was observed that 25 percent of the old orchards become unproductive due to loss of vigor in the plant. Owing to heavy incidence of pest and diseases. There is still scope to review production from these orchards through intensive care. Rejuvenation can be bone by mechanical measures, chemical measures as well as by pruning of plants. Work carried out on non-selective pruning at CHES, Vejalpur has shown encouraging results.

Bhutan has developed the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) as a substitute for Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In this theory, GNH comprises spiritual and cultural values, including love of sport, music, dance and spiritual activities. This is a good departure from measuring happiness purely from the view point of money. I would like to elaborate on four pillars that are necessary to uphold sustainable human happiness.

Ecology

There is an increasing awareness of the need for adopting sustainable lifestyles which will not make a heavy demand on our life-support systems of land, water, biodiversity, forests, oceans and climate. In his book titled World on the Edge.1 Lester Brown has described how we still have time to prevent environmental and economic collapse. Recent calculations on the ecological footprint each one of us is leaving behind shows that our per capita consumption of natural resources is exceeding the biocapacity of our earth. Soon we will need two planets to meet the growing demand for land, water, forests and biodiversity. In this context, we should keep in view what Mahatma Gandhi said long ago: 

It is a most deteriorating biological process of the harvested fruits and vegetables that leads to the oxidative breakdown of the complex material (carbohydrates or acids) of cell into simpler molecules (CO₂ & water) with production of energy. Respiration includes glycolysis metabolism, aerobic metabolism, anaerobic metabolism, trycarboxilic acid cycle and electron transport metabolism processes.

ABSTRACT

The potato is one of the most important food crops both in developed as well as in developing countries. Developing countries today produce 37 per cent of world’s output of potatoes. Potato is an important food crop in India. Both area under potato cultivation and production has increased manifolds during past decades. The efforts are being made to improve potato quality and its post harvest life as well.

An experiment was conducted to isolate mitochondria from potato tubers and succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) assay and protein profiling were performed in the tissue. Three varieties namely, Kufri Bahar, Kufri Lauvkar and Kufri Jyoti were taken into consideration for the present investigation. Kufri Bahar showed the minimum values for SDH activity and Kufri Jyoti the maximum SDH activity. On the basis of SDH activity, the mitochondria in Kufri Jyoti were seemed to be more viable, functional and coupled as compared to Kufri Bahar and Kufri Lauvkar. This finding also suggested that the respiratory degradation of starch in Kufri Jyoti was higher as compared to Kufri Bahar and Kufri Lauvkar. Thus these result showed that the shelf life of Kufri Jyoti was less as compared to Kufri Bahar and Kufri Lauvkar. Protein profiling performed by SDS-PAGE was found to be similar in all the potato tubers.

India is endowed with varied types of soils and this could be attributed varied relief features, landforms, climatic realms and vegetation types in the subcontinent. In ancient times, soils used to be classified in India into fertile and sterile soils. Later, the inherent characteristics and external features of soils such as texture and colour, were used to classify the soils. Based on texture, soil types were identified as sandy, clayey, loam, etc. In terms of colour, they were red, yellow, black, etc.

Scientific surveys of soils in India have been conducted by various agencies since independence. All India Soil Survey Organization, established in 1956, carried out detailed soil surveys in the catchment areas of major river valley projects like the Damodar Valley. Later, the National Bureau of Soil Survey and the Land Use Planning (NBSSLUP) ofthe Indian Council of Agricultural Research, established in 1976, made extensive studies on Indian soils and classified them as per the USDA SoilTaxonomy

Introduction

Ficus carica is widely distributed in tropical and sub-tropical countries. The related genera with edible fruits are Artocarpus, Cudrania and Morus of the family Moraceae. Some important species are Ficus glomerata, Ficus bengalensis, Ficus religiosa, Ficus elastica, Ficus hispida and Ficus roxburghii. A fig is a large shrub or low-growing deciduous tree with a short and twisted trunk. Fruits are solitary, axillary green or yellow, pear-shaped.

Brussels sprouts are thought to have originated in the Belgian city of Brussels, from which they got their name. Records in the Brussels area date back to the 13th century. In the 18th century, the French coined the term. They are not native to the United States and have never been seen growing wild. Brussels sprouts are a type of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera) that belongs to the mustard family Brassicaceae and are commonly produced in Europe and North America for its edible buds known as sprouts. It is cultivated for its tasty buds. The leaf veggies have a diameter of 1.5-4.0 cm (0.6-1.6 in) and resemble small cabbages.

It is well understood that the impact of climate change on agriculture and food security will be critical. The variation in climate influences the productivity of crops, livestocks and fisheries.
The major points to remember are
Climate changes are increasingly impacting agriculture and food security adversely.
Cereal productivity may decrease by 10 – 40% by 2100.
Negative effect on livestock productivity and increased disease.
Achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDG) will become more difficult.

Globally, about 800 m $ / day is spent on direct / indirect subsidies. Among other things, it is suggested that encouraging Eco Agriculture is the way out. Norman Borlaug’s early upbringing in an Iowa farm and his experience of hardship during the US Depression of the early 1930s instilled in him the desire to bring science to address the problems of low farm productivity, poverty and hunger. After completing his Ph.D degree in Plant Pathology at the University of Minnesota in 1942, he joined the Rockefeller Foundation’s agricultural programme in Mexico, leading to the birth of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). There he began his work on wheat, concentrating on the control of stem, stripe and leaf rusts, the important diseases of the crop. He introduced a multi-pronged approach to manage the rust fungus, including the development of composite varieties characterised by phonotypic identity but genotypic diversity with reference to resistance to different races of the pathogen, an approach conferring enduring resistance as a result of reduced pressure on the fungus to mutate and create more virulent strains.

Among all these new traits of management the concept of quality management appears to have a dynamic impact upon the improvement of organizational objective and functions. Since agriculture libraries are vibrant information organizations their quality of services needs to be improved in the modern technological era. The application of Total Quality Management (TQM) is one of the vital aspects of the management techniques that appears to be very much applicable and can bring about a great transformation in quality of library services. The present paper makes an analytic discussion on the applicability of TQM in Agriculture Libraries in India.

Celery is botanically known as Apium graveolens L. and is commercially recognized by different names in India, like Karnauli, Ajmod, or garden celery. There are four horticultural varieties of celery. Apium graveolens var. dulce (Miller) Pers. is cultivated for its edible leaves and stalks, commonly used in salads, appetizers, and soups. Another variety, var. rapaceum (Mill) Gaudich, known as celeriac, comprises dark green leaves grown for its root tubers, which are cooked and consumed. The other two varieties are var. secalinum and smallage.
In India, the main variety cultivated is var. dulce. Celery is commercially available in various forms, including seeds, flakes, as a vegetable, celery seed oil, and oleoresin. Celery seeds have specific quality characteristics viz. moisture content ranges from 5-11%, volatile oil content from 1.5-3% (average 2.4%), non-volatile ether extract from 5.8-14.2% (average 9.4%), cold water extract from 5.9-12.6% (average 8.4%), total ash from 6.9-11.0% (average 8.8%), and ash insoluble in acid from 0.5-4.0% (average 2.5%).

Peritoneal Fluid Peritoneal fluid (PTF) is an ultra-filtrate of plasma. The amount of the fluid and its constituents depends on oncotic and hydrostatic pressures, vascular permeability, mesothelial lining integrity, and lymphatic drainage. In healthy animals, the amount of peritoneal fluid is negligible making its aspiration difficult. However, in large animals, a small volume (up to 5ml) can be aspirated. Volumes of 10ml or above may indicate a pathological process in the abdominal cavity, unless the animal is in late pregnancy. Symptoms
The fungus grows as shooty to dark olivaceous, ectoparasite covering entire leaf lamina. Pathogen initiates as small isolated fungal growth on lower side of leaf but very soon it spreads on both sides. Pathogen reduces severely the photosynthesis area. Infected leaves fall down very quickly after dropping and rolling. It causes severe loss in seed production crop as well as in the late sown crops.
