Care and treatment of animals is possible by the combined efforts of all the stake holders of animals shared by the owners, consumers and veterinarians. Although, veterinary services are available throughout the country, involving different stakeholders including veterinarian, there is an entrenched lack of empathy and a profound disconnect among stakeholders when it comes to identifying with the pain and discomfort of animals. 
Veterinarians participate in two ways in animal welfare and animal ethics. One is the role of the veterinarian as an individual member of a profession. The other is the collective role of the profession, as expressed by the professional bodies.

Types of cells : Animal cells are usually defined by the tissue of their origin. On the basis of morphology, they can be divided into 5 types.

    1.    Epithelial cells : Epithelial tissues consist of a layer of cells which cover organs and line cavity. Example skin and the lining of alimentary canal. They grow well as single cell monolayer in culture.

    2.    Fibroblast cells : Connective tissue form the major structural component of animals. The tissue contains fibroblasts and most widely used cell in the laboratory. Fibroblasts are bound to the fibrous protein collagen in the connective tissue. They have excellent growth characteristics.

Abstract

The present experiment was conducted to study the influence of weather parameters on the population dynamics of insect pests of rice during 2009-10 at ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, Mizoram. The result of the study indicated that, the mean populations of peak abundance of major insect pests rice crops during August were stem borer, flea beetle and gundhi bug. The Correlation studies showed that stem borer population a significant positively correlation was observed with maximum and minimum relative humidity. Nevertheless non significant negative correlation was obtained with maximum and minimum temperature. The finding of the present study indicated a positive non significant correlation with maximum relative humidity, maximum and minimum temperature where as negative insignificant correlation with rainfall and minimum relative humidity with flea beetle population. The highest minimum temperature showed a positive significant correlation with the Monolepta.

Artificial insemination (AI) technique in pigs is being performed since several decades in many countries but not widely accepted technology as in cattle due to reasons like sub-standard method of semen cryopreservation and lower fertility rate. The main idea is to increase the breeding efficiency by utilization of superior boars. The number of boars needed for breeding purposes can be reduced by use of AI and reduced transmission of infectious diseases. A minimum of 15 to 20 sows can be inseminated after dilution over a 2 days period with an ejaculate from a boar. Artificial insemination had considerable impact worldwide in its application to commercial pig production. The main advantage of using fresh liquid boar semen is that fertility is maintained even with low number of spermatozoa in the inseminate. AI provides unique opportunity for the genetic improvement of pig industry. Using fewer than 1 million sperm cells per breeding unit can achieve conception rates with liquid semen similar to those with frozen thawed semen containing approximately 15 million sperm and reduced fertility makes cryopreservation an uneconomical option in boars.

Nanotechnology, which deals with understanding and control of matter at dimension of roughly 100 nm and below, has a cross sectoral application and an interdisciplinary orientation. At this scale, the physical, chemical and biological properties of materials differ from the properties of individual atoms and molecules or bulk matter, which enable novel applications. Nanotechnology research and development is directed towards understanding and creating improved materials, devices and systems that exploit these properties as they are discovered and characterized

There are many applications of nanotechnology such as in the area of medicine, chemistry and environment, energy, agriculture, information and communication, heavy industry and consumer goods. The alleged potential of this technology has garnered the attention of both developed and developing countries across the globe. Lighting → 12-16 hours for normal physiological activity.

Ventilation → Min 12-15 changes of air for animal room. This can be provided with the help of exhaust fan.

For guinea pig, temperature should not go beyond 30°C, because they cannot dissipate heat from body and they suffer from heat stress and heat frustration because they have loose fold of skin. Highly susceptible for respiratory infection, so adequate ventilation should be given.

They can be housed on wire mesh, floor, and cages. Also directly on floor provided with bedding material → paddy/ ragi straw. In some animal facilities they give saw dust as bedding material. For Guinea Pig saw dust should be given as bedding material as they get adhered to vulva that causes irritation and also it blocks the vulva. The potential of atomic absorption spectrometry/spectrophotometry/ spectroscopy for determination of metallic elements was first realized by Alan Walsh during 1950. The standard equipment termed as atomic absorption spectrometer/ spectrophotometer (AAS) has now gained a reputation in the field of analytical chemistry for determination of very small concentrations of metallic elements and metalloids. As little as 0.01 ppm of many elements can be determined through this tool. Recently, the Zeeman background correction technique has further enhanced the quality of the results obtained from the flame-less graphite furnace atomizer. Combining the very latest in AA technology with the most powerful computing and software available many manufacturers have developed several designs/models of AAS based on flame or flame-less technique.

14.1 Introduction

Apple is the most widely grown temperate fruit of the world. It is considered as King of temperate fruits. It is rich in carbohydrate, calcium, phosphorous, iron, potassium, vitamin B6 . Apple is rich in antioxidant, flavonoids and dietary fibre. It is recommended to reduce the incidence of dental caries. The phytonutrients and antioxidants may help reduce the risk of developing cancers, hypertensions, diabetes and heart disease. Apple is mainly used for table purpose. The various processed products are prepared from fruit, e.g., juice, jelly, preserve, canned slice, wine, concentrated juice, cider and powder. It is widely cultivated in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Japan, Jordan etc.

Introduction

This dioecious fruiting vine is native to the Yangtze River valley in south and central China. This dioecious fruiting vine. Seed requires stratification. Although this fruit vine is originated in China, yet its full economic potential was exploited by the New Zealand which accounts for over 70 per cent of world trade. In other countries of the world, its cultivation gained momentum after 1960, and now it is cultivated on a commercial scale in the China, New Zealand, Italy, USA, Japan, France, Germany and Australia. In India it is grown in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh, J& K, Uttarkhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Nilgiri hills of south India. It was first introduced at Lal Bagh garden, Banglore, but the plant did not come to bear due to a lack of chilling requirement during winter for its bud break. Later on, in 1963, it was introduced in the Shimla hills, where the plant came to bear in 1969. The kiwifruit is rusty brown with a hairy surface and looks like a sapota fruit. Fruit has a refreshing and delicate flavour, a pleasing aroma and high nutritive and medicinal value. It is high in vitamin C, has more potassium, phosphorus, and iron than any other food, and has a low calorie count.

India has achieved tremendous increase in horticulture production after independence. Adoption of several production technologies developed by several agricultural universities across the countries boosted the production of the horticulture sector both by increasing area under various fruit crops as well as by elevating productivity. Though the country has acquired second position in world fruit production; the productivity is less than many under developed countries.Several reasons can be attributed for declining productivity; few of them are enlisted below.

Structural landforms are landforms that are created due to the underlying geological structures of the earth's crust. These structures can include folds, faults, and other features that have been formed due to the tectonic forces that have shaped the earth's surface over millions of years.

Examples of structural landforms include mountain ranges, plateaus, and rift valleys. Mountain ranges are formed due to the upliftment of the earth's crust along a fault line or due to the folding of the earth's crust. Plateaus are flat-topped landforms that are formed due to the upliftment of a large area of the earth's crust. Rift valleys are formed due to the stretching and pulling apart of the earth's crust along a fault line.

Denudational landforms, on the other hand, are landforms that are created due to the process of erosion and weathering. These landforms are formed due to the gradual wearing down of the earth's surface by natural forces such as wind, water, and ice.

The aim of this training programme was to empower women from the Scheduled Caste community by providing them with skills to create handmade seashell jewellery and other handicraft products, which they could then sell to supplement their income. The training was conducted in a modular format, which included soft skill development, theoretical sessions, practical sessions, and field visits. The training programme was conducted in Keelathilayenthal Village in Ramanathapuram District, which is known for its rich marine life and abundance of seashells.

About the seashell-making-entrepreneurship model

The training programme was funded by MANAGE, Hyderabad, and was overseen by Dr. Shahaji Phand, Programme Director, and Dr. Sushrirekha Das, Coordinator. All 30 participants were women from the fishing community who were interested in learning seashell ornament- making skills.

1. To total ash add 25 ml of dilute HCl (10% w/w)

2. Cover with a watch glass and boil gently over a low flame for 5 minutes

3. Filter and wash the filter paper thoroughly with hot water

4. Return the paper to the original dish, ignite, cool and weigh the insoluble ash

The emphasis on greater participation of the beneficiaries in the development pro- cess on general and in message development process on general and in message development on particular has led to a reorientation on the study and operation- alization of the role of communication in development activities. There is a shift from the concept of development communication (DC) with its emphasis on top- down, big-media centered government to people communication to development support communication (DSC) focused on co-equal, little-media centered govern- ment with people communication.

A concomitant development is the emergence of a development professionals : the development support communicator, who mediates between the technical experts and their beneficiaries. This person is required to help the beneficiaries interact with the technical personnel, administrators, etc. as co-equal partners. Thus, the new horizontal axes provided by development support communicator will counter- balance the vertical axes of development communication involving the technical change agents.
