Secondary enterprises can play a crucial role in improving the livelihoods of farmers by diversifying their income sources, reducing risks associated with dependence on a single crop or farming activity, and increasing overall
economic resilience. In addition to primary farming activities, many farmers engage in secondary enterprises to diversify their income, reduce risk, and ensure year-round employment. These activities add value to agricultural produce or provide services linked to the agri-sector, often through microenterprises, cottage industries, or village-level entrepreneurship.
Definition
Secondary enterprises refer to non-farm or off-farm activities that are directly or indirectly linked to agriculture, often based on local resources, skills, and traditional knowledge. Here are several ways that secondary enterprises can serve as effective livelihood components for farmers:
1. Value-Added Products
Farmers can engage in the production of value-added products. This may include processing raw agricultural products into items such as jams, cheeses, dried fruits, or specialty sauces. By doing so, they can enhance the market value of their products and tap into niche markets.
2. Agri-Tourism
Farmers can diversify their income by participating in agri-tourism. This could involve offering farm tours, educational workshops, farm stays, or events like harvest festivals. Agri-tourism not only generates additional income but also helps connect consumers with food sources. 

Once cells are obtained from a culture collection or isolated from animal tissue,, cells are put in the flask with growth medium. The cells are inoculated at a density of 104-105 cells/ml to get a concentration of 106 cells/ml or 105 cells/cm2 in a solid surface in 2-3 days because of nutrient limitation, accumulation of toxic metabolite or lacking of growth surface.

Castration means removal of the testicles and there are two methods of castration in domestic animals viz. closed and open method.

1. Closed method

The femur has a relatively small shaft, which is cylindrical in its middle. The trochanter minor has the form of a rough tuberosity.

The trochanteric ridge connects it with the trochanter major. The third trochanter is absent. The supracondyloid fossa is shallow. The proximal extremity is very wide.

The fovea capitis is a small depression on the middle of the heacKfor the attachment of the round ligament.

The trochanter major is very massive and is undivided; its lateral surface is very rough. The trochanteric fossa is deep. The ridges of the trochlea are less oblique.

The amount of feed or nutrient intake by an animal which is not excreted in the faeces is considered to be digested by the animals. The depiction of digested feed/nutrient as percentage of intake is known as digestibility coefficient. However, this does not represent the true value of digestibility of a feed or nutrient because during the period of recording some part of digested material is returned to the digestive tract after absorption in the body and excreted in the faeces. In addition to this some secretions of the digestive system and debris of epithelial cells are also eliminated in the faeces. These errors are quite large and highly variable for the nitrogenous constituents and minerals in the feeds. Due to these factors the determined digestibility coefficient is known as apparent digestibility coefficient. For the determination of digestion coefficient, only daily intake of feed or nutrients and faecal void values are recorded.

The availability of nitrogenous nutrients and minerals is more accurately determined by their retention (balance) in the body. Therefore, for the determination of the retention of nitrogen and minerals,metabolism trials are conducted. The routes of elimination of these constituents from the body are faeces, urine, expired air, skin secretions and milk (in case of lactating mammalian species). In a conventional balance study the loss of nutrient (s) through skin, being quantitatively little, is ignored. However, in case of some very specific study, collection of skin secretions and materials like shed hair and scurf are collected. For the collection of skin secretion (sweat) a special absorbant suit is used. In all routine balance studies, on male animals quantity of intake and void in faeces and urine are only taken into account.

Even though we are now in the atomic age, the idea of the atom is not new. More than 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosopher Democritus suggested that any matter is composed of tiny indestructible particles called Atoms. The word atom is derived from the Greek word Atoms meaning something that can not be cut further. There are various training programmes being conducted in Tamil Nadu to promote seaweed cultivation and its various applications. The one-day SCSP training programme organised by ICAR-RVS KVK, Tiruneveli, Tamil Nadu, and the three-day SCSP training programme on seaweed for food and industrial application by Jehovah Shamma Aqua One Centre, both sponsored by MANAGE, Hyderabad, seem to have been well received by the coastal population of Tamil Nadu. The training programmes covered topics such as the status and distribution of seaweeds on the Indian coast, by-products from marine seaweeds, and nutraceutical products from marine seaweeds. These are important areas of knowledge that can help the coastal population explore the various opportunities available in seaweed cultivation and to utilise the seaweed species to their full potential.

The formation of the mammalian body plan is regulated by highly conserved gene regulatory networks. During this developmental stage, the notochord and primitive node play critical roles in establishing the cranial-caudal axis and left-right asymmetry. Ectoderm, the outer germ layer, differentiates into neuroectoderm and surface ectoderm. Neuroectodermal cells move from the developing neural tube’s lateral edges to a dorsolateral position. These neuroectodermal cells are known as neural crest cells. The central nervous system originates from the neural tube, whereas the peripheral nervous system originates from both the neural tube and the neural crest. Mesoderm cells proliferate and develops into three separate components: the paraxial, intermediate, and lateral plate of mesoderm. The paraxial mesoderm cells form whorl-like aggregations known as somitomeres on both sides of the neural plate. Paraxial mesoderm organises into separate blocks known as somites caudal to the seventh somitomere. Somatic cells make up the vast majority of the axial skeleton, accompanying muscle, and covering dermis. The embryonic gut tube, developing respiratory system, and accompanying glands all develop from endoderm, the inner germ layer. Endoderm is also responsible for the epithelial linings of the urinary bladder, middle ear, and auditory tube. Endoderm also gives rise to the parenchymal cells of the thyroid, parathyroid glands, pancreas, and liver.

Medicinal plants are a basis of huge economic value all over the world. The use of plants and plant products as remedies could be sketched as far back as the beginning of human civilization. The most primitive medicinal use of plants in Hindu culture is mentioned in “Rigveda”, which is believed to have been written between 4500 - 1600 B.C. and is theoretical to be the oldest arsenal of human knowledge (Dhale and Mogle, 2011). Ayurveda is the base of curative science of Hindu culture, in its eight dissection deals with specific properties of drugs and different aspects of science of life and the art of healing (Rastogi and Mehrotra, 2002). Nature has presented on us an affluent botanical wealth and a large number of varied types of plants nurture in different parts of the country. Herbal medicine is still the basis of about 75 - 80% of the whole population. The major part of traditional therapy occupies the use of plant extract and their active components (Akerele, 1993). Secondary metabolites are green medicines present in plants and plant parts that act as defense system against disease inducing organisms or more accurately to protect against disease due to the physiological and biochemical mechanism failure (Alarcon-Aguilar et al., 2002).

Extension worker play a important role in rabbit keeping. It increases food production and experience in rabbit farming, people has to be educated as they have no knowledge of rabbit keeping especially people of towns and villages.

These have to be told the advantages of rabbitry. It is difficult to convince villagers, so extension is very important.

Introduction

The pecan is a valuable horticultural gift from North America to the world. In the USA, it is considered the “Queen of nuts” because of its value both as a wild and cultivated nut. As compared to other nut fruits, which have been grown since time immemorial, pecans have been under cultivation only for about one hundred years but have gained enormous popularity. The pecan occupies fifth rank among the leading tree nuts because of its excellent nutty flavor. Pecan nuts are a rich source of fat (72 g), protein (9 g), carbohydrates (15 g) and minerals. Pecan is usually taken roasted or salted to supplement normal diet. Almost 90 % of the nuts are sold shelled and the rest in shell. The nuts are commonly used to add aroma, flavor and crispness, a rich color, or to garnish a large number of dishes. However, most commonly, it is used in baking dishes and in ice cream. Pecan shell, a bay product, is also used to manufacture tannin, charcoal and abrasives in hand soap. The pecan tree has value as a timber too, due to its strength and hardiness. There is a great demand for its veneer and lumber in decorative paneling, fine furniture, and flooring, as well as in pallet manufacturing. good source of phosphoric acid. A cropping system refers to the type and sequence of crops grown and practices used for growing them. It is based on the available technologies of crop production. Cropping systems have been traditionally structured to maximize crop yields. Now, there is a strong need to design cropping systems, which take into consideration the emerging social, economic and ecological or environmental concerns for each ecosystem. The goal of a cropping system must be to conserve natural resources i.e. soil, water and sustain crop production. Conserving soil and water and maintaining longterm soil productivity depend largely on the management of cropping systems, which influence the magnitude of soil erosion and soil organic matter dynamics. Crop diversification is an important option in sustainable agricultural systems. Management of cropping systems implies management of tillage, crop residue, nutrients, pests, and practices for soil conservation. Difference between dry land and rainfed farming is as follows.

The SCSP training programme on biofloc-based fish farming in Manipur aimed to promote entrepreneurship in fish farming by providing training on modern and innovative techniques. The training programme was sponsored by MANAGE, Hyderabad, and was conducted by two organisations in Manipur: AOC Manipur and Green Biotech Ecosolutions Pvt. Ltd. The programme was held over a period of three days at Khurkhul Village, Imphal West, Manipur. The programme focused on biofloc-based fish farming, which is an innovative and sustainable method of fish farming that uses microbial flocs as a source of nutrition for fish.

Integrated Poultry Farming

Integration refers to the coordination and amalgamation of various stages in poultry production to create a seamless flow of inputs and outputs, reducing overall production costs. This approach ensures that each stage of production, from breeding to marketing, is efficiently managed within a unified system.

• Global Integration: In developed countries, poultry production is highly integrated, encompassing all stages from principal breeding to consumer distribution. This includes broiler farms, hatcheries, feed mills, processing plants, and animal healthcare products, which work together to streamline production and marketing processes.

• Indian Context: In India, integration and contract farming in poultry began with Suguna Poultry Farm Limited in 1991. While this marked the start of integration in broiler production, it did not fully represent the comprehensive integration seen in more developed systems.

• Current Practice in India: Integrators provide essential inputs such as chicks, feed, medicines, vaccines, and technical support. They also handle marketing of the final product. Poultry farmers, operating as contract growers, receive payments based on the weight of broilers or number of eggs produced. Despite these developments, integration within the layer sector remains underdeveloped in India.
