ABSTRACT

Of late, the importance of integrated study of multi-theme data is being realised in geological mapping and mineral exploration programmes. The usefulness of such a study lies in the fact that data integration and interpretation in a conjunctive mode enables to infer more information than the sets can separately provide. The present paper presents several case studies, illustrating the usefulness of multi-theme data integration in geological mapping and mineral exploration.

1. INTRODUCTION

Integrated study of multi-theme data is being practiced in the recent times in the geological mapping and mineral exploration campaigns. Such a study, in a synergetic fashion, helps to extract more meaningful information than from the study of individual datasets. It not only helps in deciphering regional geological picture, but also in the precise location of drilling targets, thereby yielding rich dividends for the expenditure incurred in the mapping and mineral investigations. Besides, the success ratio of the mineral investigations has also shown a significant increase, resulting in the discovery of more mineral

deposits. Hence the integration of multi-theme data is of paramount importance for the success of geological mapping and mineral investigations.

What is natural pest and disease control?

Pests and diseases are part of the natural environmental system. In this system there is a balance between predators and pests. This is nature’s way of controlling populations. The creatures that we call pests and the organisms that cause disease only become ‘pest and diseases’ when their activities start to damage crops and affect yields.

If the natural environmental system is imbalanced then one population can become dominant because it is not being preyed upon. The aim of natural control is to restore a balance between pest and predator and to keep pests and diseases down to an acceptable level. The aim is not to eradicate them altogether, as they also have a role to play in the natural system.

Once a pest or disease has started to attack a crop, the damage cannot be repaired and control becomes increasingly difficult. Where possible, use techniques to avoid or prevent pest and disease attack in the first place.

1. Introduction

India completed its 75 years of independence in the year 2022. Government of India celebrated the country’s journey across its 75 years of independence and its magnificent achievements during that period as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The official journey of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced as a 75-week long countdown from 12th March 2021 up to the 75th anniversary of India’s independence on 15th August 2022 and continued for a year beyond up to 15th August 2023. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was commemorated as a Jan-Utsav in the spirit of Jan-Bhagidari, which means, a public festival with public participation.

The Hon’ble Government of India has, through this campaign envisioned the foundation of a self-reliant India and he said, “The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav means elixir of energy of independence; elixir of inspirations of the warriors of freedom struggle; elixir of new ideas and pledges; and elixir of Aatmanirbharta. Therefore, this Mahotsav is a festival of awakening of the nation; festival of fulfilling the dream of good governance; and the festival of global peace and development”1.

Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav paved way to envisage a vision for the country, set goals and realize where the country would be in 2047, when India marks 100 years of its independence. Government of India termed the journey from 75 years to 100 years, the next 25 years, as the “Amrit Kaal,” which means a most auspicious period to start a new venture, signifying that it’s a time to make resolutions and achieve them (Sankalp se Siddhi)2.

INTRODUCTION

The modern cultivated strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) is one of the most widely distributed soft fruits of the world due to its genotypic diversity, highly heterozygous nature and broad range of environmental adaptations. It is one of the most delicious and refreshing soft fruit. Its plant is cherished in gardens as well as in commercial fields for its beautiful red fruit that has tantalizing aroma. Being nutritionally rich, strawberry has now become an important table fruit of millions of people around the globe. Its fruit is different from other fruits as their seeds are produced on outside of the fruit. Strawberry is unique fruit crop, which gives quicker and very high return per unit area on the capital investment, as the crop is ready for harvesting within six months of planting.

The strawberry fruits are highly perishable in nature and need quick disposal after harvest thus it has remarkable scope for its cultivation near the towns, cities and processing units where the fruits can be utilized or processed immediately after harvest. Over the last few years, continuous progress has been made in strawberry cultivation due to the use of micropropagation technique for plant propagation, day neutral cultivar, protected cultivation for multiple crops in a year and low tunnels in open field, which are useful for exploiting the tremendous potential of this small fruit crop.

Geographic Distribution
It is found worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. Sorghum downy mildew is widely distributed in following countries.
Asia: Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand and Yemen (CMI, 1988; Jeger et al., 1998).In India though the losses are reported from the states of U.P. and Madhya Pradesh, the disease is very common and destructive in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra

The increasing deployment of Large Language Models across education, healthcare, finance, employment and public services has made fairness and ethical responsibility central concerns in AI development. LLMs learn from enormous datasets that may contain historical inequalities, stereotypes, cultural assumptions and other forms of social bias. This chapter examines the origins, manifestations and consequences of bias in LLMs and considers approaches for promoting fair and responsible deployment. It discusses data bias arising from the composition and curation of training datasets, algorithmic bias introduced through model architectures and learning processes, and bias associated with human-in-the-loop systems. Gender, racial and cultural biases are considered because they can influence generated outputs and potentially reinforce existing inequalities. The chapter also examines fairness evaluation, mitigation strategies, transparency, accountability and human oversight. Ethical concerns extend beyond bias to hallucination, misinformation, privacy and inappropriate automation. Effective governance requires continuous monitoring rather than one-time assessment because model behaviour may change across applications and populations. The chapter therefore emphasizes responsible AI principles that place fairness, transparency, accountability, safety and human interests at the centre of LLM development and deployment.

Data visualization is the graphical representation of information and data. By using different visual elements like charts, graphs and maps. Data visualization tool provides easy way to see the understand the data and related trend/pattern.

Compounding in Hospitals
Compounding in hospitals is an essential pharmaceutical practice that involves the preparation of customized medications to meet the specific needs of individual patients. This process, which includes mixing, altering, or assembling drug ingredients, addresses scenarios where commercially available drugs may not be suitable. It requires significant expertise and compliance with regulatory standards to ensure patient safety and the efficacy of compounded medications.
Importance of Compounding in Hospitals
The role of compounding in hospitals cannot be overstated, as it enables healthcare providers to:
• Personalize Treatment: Patients may have unique requirements that standard medications cannot meet. For example, children and elderly patients often need doses that are not commercially available, and compounding allows for the creation of appropriate, smaller dosages.
• Formulate Alternative Dosage Forms: For patients who have difficulty swallowing pills, hospital compounding can provide alternative forms such as liquids, creams, or gels.
• Omit Allergens: Many commercially available drugs contain dyes, preservatives, or other additives that some patients cannot tolerate. Compounded medications can be formulated without these substances to meet the needs of sensitive patients.
• Create Specialized Medications: In cases where patients require treatments not available in mass production, such as certain cancer drugs or emergency antidotes, hospital compounding offers a practical solution.
• Address Drug Shortages: Hospitals often rely on compounding to prepare medications during periods when commercially manufactured drugs are unavailable due to supply chain disruptions.

History of Rickettsial infections went back to 16^th century and it has long been associated with famine and war. Thus Rickettsial infections played a significant role in the history of Western civilization. Epidemic typhus had major impact to decide over the outcome of several wars. This epidemic alone killed or caused great suffering to over 100,000 people in the two World Wars.  However, the causative agent was not determined until the early part of the 20^th century. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) was the first detected Rickettsial infection as early as in 1896 in Idaho Valley, USA.  It was originally known as ‘Black Measles’ because of its clinical appearance in the form of characteristic spotted rash appearance throughout the body of the patients. Howard Taylor Ricketts, an American pathologist for the first time described the causative agent of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and was able to isolate it in the laboratory animals during 1902-1909. He was a dedicated scientist and, on several occasions, injected himself with a pathogen for experiment. The causative pathogen of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Rickettsia rickettsii was named after him. Later, the family Rickettsiaceae as well as the order Rickettsiales was named after him. Ernest William Goodpasture, an American pathologist and physician, invented the methods of isolation and culturing the rickettsial pathogens in chicken embryos and fertilized chicken eggs.

Abstract

Lentil (Lens culinaris Medik) is an important rabi leguminous annual herb with rich source of protein and other balanced nutrition. Lentil is susceptible to many insect-pests and diseases which causes significant yield loss which may range from 50 to 100% leading to one of the most important biotic constraints in productivity. The major fungal diseases in lentil are Fusarium wilt, Ascochyta blight and rust which causes severe losses in lentil production. Other minor diseases like botrytis grey mould, anthracnose, alternaria, stem rot, collar rot and some viral diseases also infect the lentil field under condusive environment conditions. Coming to major insect pests of lentil viz. helicoverpa, aphids, leaf weevils and lygus bugs with several noteworthy minor field pests such as thrips and cutworm with few storage pests that infest the crop. With an integrated blueprint of disease management, one can minimize risk of yield loss by following modified package and practices with need based use of pesticides, thus maximizing profit in lentil production.

Introduction
Soil quality is a critical concept in environmental science, agriculture, and land management. It refers to the ability of soil to perform its essential functions, which include supporting plant growth, regulating water flow, cycling nutrients, filtering pollutants, and providing habitat for microorganisms. Healthy, high-quality soil is fundamental for the productivity of ecosystems and the sustainability of agricultural practices. The quality of soil is influenced by a combination of physical, chemical, and biological factors. These include soil texture, structure, organic matter content, pH, nutrient availability, and the presence of beneficial organisms like bacteria and fungi. When these factors are balanced, soil can support healthy crops and ecosystems. However, soil degradation—caused by practices such as overuse of chemical fertilizers, deforestation, erosion, and pollution—can severely reduce its quality, leading to lower agricultural yields, water contamination, and loss of biodiversity. Assessing soil quality involves monitoring several key indicators, such as organic matter levels, soil texture, compaction, water infiltration rates, and the presence of key nutrients. Organic matter is especially important, as it helps to bind soil particles, retain moisture, and provide a food source for beneficial microorganisms. The chemical aspect of soil quality is equally vital, encompassing the availability of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as the presence of any harmful contaminants like heavy metals. The biological dimension of soil quality relates to the diversity and activity of organisms within the soil. A rich microbial community enhances nutrient cycling, helps decompose organic matter, and promotes plant health. Earthworms, for instance, play a critical role in aerating the soil and facilitating water infiltration. Soil quality is not a static property; it can change over time depending on land management practices. Sustainable practices such as crop rotation, conservation tillage, the use of organic amendments, and maintaining ground cover can improve and maintain soil quality. Conversely, unsustainable practices like excessive tillage, monoculture, and the overuse of agrochemicals can degrade soil, making it less productive and more prone to erosion. In

    1.    Short title. – These rules may be called the Seeds Rules, 1968. 
    2.    Definitions. – In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires,- 
        (a) “Act” means the Seeds Act, 1966 (54 of 1966); 
        (b) “advertisement” means all representations other than those on the label, disseminated in any manner or by any means relating to seed for the purposes of the Act; 
        (c)  “certification sample” means a sample of seed drawn by a certification agency or by a duly authorised representative of a certification agency established under section 8 or recognized under section 18 of the Act; 
        (d) “certification tag” means a tag or label of certain design to be specified by the certification agency and shall constitute the certificate granted by the certification agency; 

Pulses are an essential source of protein in the diet of the vegetarian population. Cultivation of pulses has been a long-standing tradition in Uttarakhand, where the availability of alternative sources of protein such as meat and milk is barely sufficient to fulfill the daily dietary requirements. Pulses assume big importance in these rainfed and environmentally harsh regions by being an ideal crop for the prevalent low-input agricultural conditions. In Uttarakhand, pulses not only form the major constituents of the staple diet but also serve as an important source of feed and fodder for the livestock. The original divisions of the class insecta are a matter of dispute and it is not easy to decide which division to use many, different original order and groups are recognised by different experts and which one is best will no doubt remain problem. The words taxonomy, systematics and classification have been used alternatively for the same subject by various scientists. However Simpson 1964 has attempted to segregate these. According to him classification is the order of animals into groups on the basis of their relationship that is association of contiguity similarity or both. Systematic is the scientific study of the kinds and diversity of organism and of any and all relationships among them, while taxonomy is the theoretical study of classification including its bases, principal procedures and rule. All animal species are segregated into small and large groups on the basis of their comparative similarities and dissimilarities. The largest group is called phyllum as followed by class, order, family, genus-species and sub-species respectively. The Phylum, class, order, genus, species etc. The division of class insecta into primitive wingless insects, the apterygota and the secondary winged-insects the pterygota and included some orders. The class insecta may be divided into two subclasses.

Introduction

Plant growth in agricultural soils is inf luenced by a myriad of abiotic and biotic factors. As a routine practice growers normally use physical and chemical approaches to manage the soil environment to improve crop yields while the application of microbial products for this purpose is less common. An exception to this is the use of rhizobial inoculants for legumes to ensure efficient nitrogen fixation; a practice that has been occurring in North America for over 100 years (Smith, 1997). The region around the root, the rhizosphere, is relatively rich in nutrients, in expense of as much as 40% of plant photosynthates from the roots (Lynch and Whipps, 1991). Consequently, the rhizosphere supports large and active microbial populations capable of exerting beneficial, neutral, or detrimental effects on plant growth. The importance of rhizosphere microbial populations for maintenance of root health, nutrient uptake, and tolerance of environmental stress is now recognized (Bowen and Rovira, 1999; Cook, 2002). These beneficial microorganisms can be a significant component of management practices to achieve the attainable yield for in other words a crop yield limited only by the natural physical environment of the crop and its innate genetic potential (Cook, 2002).

The prospect of manipulating crop rhizosphere microbial populations by inoculation of beneficial bacteria to increase plant growth has shown considerable promise in laboratory and greenhouse studies however, responses have been variable in the field (Bowen and Rovira, 1999). The potential environmental benefits of this approach, leading to a reduction in the use of agricultural chemicals are fitting the sustainable management practices. Realizing the biological interactions occurring in the rhizosphere, recent progress are in need to fulfill the practical requirements of inoculant formulation and timely delivery which would increase the technology’s reliability in the field and facilitate its commercial development.

1. Concept of Conservation Farming

Conservation farming represents a paradigm shift in agriculture, moving away from conventional practices that often degrade the environment and compromise long-term productivity. Expanding on the principles of conservation farming provides deeper insights into the multifaceted benefits and challenges associated with this approach.

Conservation farming aligns closely with the principles of agroecology, emphasizing the integration of ecological concepts into agricultural systems. The concept recognizes that agriculture is not separate from the natural environment but rather an integral part of it. By minimizing soil disturbance, conservation farming promotes the preservation of soil structure and the intricate network of microorganisms that contribute to nutrient cycling and plant health.

Making a correct and an early diagnosis is very much important for undertaking rational and effective treatment for fast recovery, avoiding unnecessary medication, reducing the load of so many drugs on body metabolism, reducing environmental pollution and the cost of treatment. There are four important pillars for making a correct diagnosis viz. the history, the systematic clinical examination, the correct clinical diagnostic techniques and the laboratory support. History Taking Clinician’s first step in making a diagnosis is through asking the owner’s complaint. Accurate and complete history may be obtained from focusing on the details of the patient (name, number, species, breed, age, sex and weight), vaccination status, deworming schedule, nutritional history, past and present medical history and environmental history.
