It is estimated that the world requires nearly 70 per cent increase in agriculture production to meet the demand for food by the year 2050 based on current trends in population growth it can be achieved either by increasing land under cultivation (which is not possible), increasing the availability of more water for agriculture and efficient utilisation of available land and water resources. The best available option is to increase in productivity of unit of land for unit water. However, the availability of water for agriculture production cannot be presumed to be same year after year as the major source of water is precipitation more known for its uncertainty due to change in weather patterns from season to season and year to year all over the world. The element of uncertainty is increasing since the beginning of the present century due to climate change under the present circumstance, the crop production is practiced -
• In Irrigated Areas
• In Rainfed Areas
• Under Conserved Moisture Condition Without Any Source Of Irrigation
For increasing crop production under irrigated condition, it is necessary to identify crops and varieties that can produce more yield per unit of water even when there is some decrease in availability of water through irrigation. Therefore, the concept of water production function is used for evaluation of water use efficiency of the crops.

The discovery and development of antibiotics have led to dramatic improvement in the ability to treat infectious diseases with emergence of drug – resistant organisms due to irrational and overuse of antibiotics, failure to complete a course of treatment, genetic versatility of microbes and horizontal transfer of resistant genes among bacterial species had led to antibiotic resistance (Amit and Shailendra, 2006; Aibinu, 2007).The need for alternative antimicrobial agents has renewed the interest on plants as a sources of antimicrobial agents due to their use historically and the fact that a good portion of the world’s population, particularly in developing countries, rely on plants for the treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases.
 
Syzygium aromaticum

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is the aromatic dried flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae. The traditional use indicates that Clove has several therapeutic properties, such as an aphrodisiac, stomach, carminative, nervous stimulant and tonic. Reports has been documented  on their aphrodisiac, antibacterial, antifungal, nematocidal, anti-toothache, anti-oxidant, analgesic, anesthetic and hypotensive properties. Although in Iranian traditional medication several formulation containing clove have been used as a nervous stimulant and cognitive enhancer. (Mohammad, et al., 2009).

Purpose-Multiplication of plants by cutting includes stem, root and leaf cuttings. The stem cuttings are of four different types i.e. hard, semi hard, soft wood and herbaceous wood cutting consist in producing new individuals after the piece of stem has been detached from the mother plant and planted in conditions suitable for regeneration to the missing organs. Stem cutting have to develop a new root system as they already have buds to give rise to shoots. Many cells of the cutting are capable of becoming meristematic and thus are able to produce new roots. The success in the stem cutting multiplication depends upon factors such as condition of the mother plants, part of the tree from where the cuttings are made, time of the year, care while planting and after care. Cuttings can be made during monsoon (July-Sept.) and spring (Feb. -March) season when active cell division is taking place.

Lablab purpureus usually knowna s Dolichus bean, Hyacinth bean or Field bean belonging to the family fabaceae, one of the most ancient crops among cultivated plants. It is a bushy, semi-erect, perennial herb, showing no tendency to climb. It is mainly cultivated either as a pure crop or mixed with finger millet, groundnut, castor, corn, bajra or sorghum in Asia and Africa. It is a multipurpose crop grown for pulse, vegetable and forage. The crop is grown for its green pods, while dry seeds are used in various vegetable food preparations.

Season:Seed is very sensitive to weather. A grain crop can be sold for a lower price even if it damaged by rain. But a seed crop, if affected will lead to low seed quality. Hence selecting the right season is necessary. Generally, the seed should mature in cool dry climate. Seasons should be selected with this idea in mind. In Tamil Nadu the best seed crops are grown during March--April and September - October as the seeds mature during the cool months of January - February.

Greenhouse selection

Selection of greenhouse to be constructed is important as each type has its own merits and demerits. There are two common types of commercial greenhouses namely; (i) Freestanding (single span) and (ii) Ridge and furrow (gutter connected or multi-span). Multi-span structure permits economy in construction, heating and cooling but the single span gives flexibility as far as microclimate inside the greenhouse in concerned. The freestanding Quonset type is usually accommodates many growing situations but there height restrictions near the side walls. Another freestanding type is single gable greenhouse and its many variations. The ridge and furrow or gutter connected greenhouse are joined at the eave by a common gutter.

The cocoa plant is a perennial dicotyledonous which has been under cultivation since pre-historic times. shade-loving and evergreen trees. It is native to the Amazon valley of South America and is now cultivated largely in Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Indonesia, Peru, Sierra Leon Cameroon, Equator, West Indies and Malaysia. In India, cocoa is mainly grown in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and. It is a rich source of fat (37%) and protein (7%). It also produces theobromin. Cocoa is used in manufacturing chocolate, cocoa powder, cocoa butter and other nutritious foods.

16.1 Introduction

Fish are primarily designed to swim in the water. Their fusiform body allows for efficient swimming. Swimming is the most cost-effective mode of fish locomotion because fish bodies are supported by water and thus do not require energy to counter gravity. To swim, a fish uses its fins. The caudal fin is primarily used for propulsion, while the remaining fins are used for balance control and f ine maneuvering. However, some Plectognathi fish (Trunk-fish, Parrot-fish, Butterfly-fish, Porcupine-fish, and Trigger-fish, among others) have lost their ability to swim using body flexure and can only move with their other fins.

It is a holistic approach that combines different disciplines, including hydrology, climatology, ecology, geography, and social sciences, to develop a comprehensive understanding of water resources. The integrated approach is essential for several reasons, including addressing climate change impacts, sustainable management of water resources, enhancing water security, addressing water quality issues, and promoting collaboration among stakeholders. Climate change is causing alterations in precipitation patterns, melting glaciers, and changes in river flows, affecting water availability and quality. An integrated approach helps in understanding the climate change impacts on water resources and developing adaptation strategies (Asif et al., 2023).

State governments in India implement various schemes and programs aimed at promoting farming-based livelihood opportunities. These initiatives often target different aspects of agriculture, including production, marketing, technology, and skill development. While the specific schemes can vary by state, here are some common types of programs and initiatives that state governments might implement:
1. Crop Support Schemes
• Minimum Support Price (MSP): Several state governments announce MSP for various crops to ensure farmers receive a fair price for their produce.
• Price Stabilization Funds: These are meant to support farmers during periods of low prices and ensure profitability.
2. Skill Development Programs
• Agricultural Skill Development Centers: Training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of farmers in modern agricultural practices, sustainable farming, and post-harvest management.
• Workshops and Seminars: Regular sessions are conducted for farmers to update them on new technologies and practices in agriculture.
3. Subsidies and Financial Assistance
• Seed and Fertilizer Subsidies: Financial help for farmers to purchase high-quality seeds and fertilizers.

Stress is force per unit area. When matter is subjected to stress; it may undergo changes in size, shape and displacement. Plants are grown in open environment and are likely to experience stress due to environmental conditions or when subjected to pests and diseases. The stress experienced by plants due to environmental conditions is called abiotic stresses. These include stresses caused by weather factors and climatic conditions and include moisture stress and thermal stress. The plants may also experience stress due to strong winds, dryness and as well as humid conditions (Fig.8.1).
The plants are generally classified into three types depending upon the ability to cope up with moisture stress as exhibited by-

• Drought adaptations
The moisture stress may be to shortage of Water Compared to its requirements for evapotranspiration and metabolic activities. The plants may also suffer moisture

Edible legumes are excellent sources of dietary protein and oils. Winged bean, otherwise known as Goa bean, Manila bean, princess pea, asparagus pea or four angled bean is becoming popular as a tropical legume vegetable. It is a multivitamin and multimineral packed legume. This wonder vegetable was considered as the vegetable of the twentieth century. It is also known as ‘soya’s rival’ or ‘God sent vegetable’. All parts of the plant are edible namely leaves, flowers, immature pods, immature seeds, mature seeds and tubers. It is also named as ‘a supermarket on a stalk’ because the plant combines the desirable characteristics of common bean, pea, spinach, mushroom, soya bean and potato. Its vernacular names are:  Bengali, Chara-koni-sem or lakar-sem; Tamil, Morisuavarai; Kannada, Shambe kayi; Malayalam, Chaturapayar or irachipayar and Marathi, Chavdhari ghevda.

Phytochemicals are compounds present in fruits that are not required for normal functioning of the body, but have a beneficial effect on health or play an active role in amelioration of diseases. Phytonutrients have various health benefits like antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cancer preventive, antidiabetic and antihypertensive. The pigments of the fruits have many therapeutic benefits including vasoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties, antiproliferative, chemo protective and anti-neoplastic properties, reversing age related deficits (Joseph et al.,1999) and useful in controlling oxidative stress during pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth retardation (Pawlowicz et al.,2000). Cocculus hirsutus Linn. is a climber and widely distributed in tropical and subtropical climates. This plant is commonly called as kattu kodi in Tamil. It belongs to the family Menispermaceae. The fruit is a drupe which is size of small pea with red purple endocarp (Fig.1a and Fig.1b). The plant is used in treatment of gonorrhea, spermatonorrhea, Urinary troubles, diarrhea and hyperglycemia (Kirtikar and Basu, 2002). The leaves of the plant have been evaluated for anti hyperglycemic (Badole et al., 2006); antibacterial (Panda et al., 2007); diuretic and laxative (Ganapaty et al., 2002). Several isoquinoline alkaloids are present in leaves and roots; the important ones cohirsine, cohirsinine, cohirsitinine, hirsutine and jamtine (Viqaruddin et al., 1987; 1991; 1992; 1993). Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine wherein medical information is transferred via telephone, the Internet or other networks for the purpose of consulting, and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations. Telemedicine may be as simple as two health professionals discussing a case over the telephone, or as complex as using satellite technology and video-conferencing equipment to conduct a real-time consultation between medical specialists in two different countries. Telemedicine generally refers to the use of communications and information technologies for the delivery of clinical care.

Care at a distance (also called in absentia care), is an old practice which was often conducted via post; there has been a long and successful history of in absentia health care, which, thanks to modern communication technology, has metamorphosed into what we now know as modern telemedicine.

The terms e-health and tele-health are at times wrongly interchanged with telemedicine. Like the terms “medicine” and “health care”, telemedicine often refers only to the provision of clinical services while the term tele-health can refer to clinical and non-clinical services such as medical education, administration, and research. The term e-health is often, particularly in the UK and Europe, used as an umbrella term that includes tele-health, electronic medical records, and other components of health IT.

Training and pruning are an important activity in fruit crops to have better frame work and optimum fruiting area. Training refers to giving a desired shape to the plants by tying or staking or supporting over a structure and or selective pruning for a good strong frame work. Pruning refers to cutting of certain portion of plants for maintenance of fruitfulness and quality besides vigour of the trees or vines. Pruning affects the functions of the plants and assists in better fruiting and in getting more quality fruits. It is one of the most crucial operations and require some scientific knowledge regarding bearing behavior of the plants.

India is bestowed with an enormous wealth of medicinal plants and has a rich heritage of treating human and animal ailments by using herbal medicines. However, there is need for a systemic, scientific approach to validate the authenticity of claims on plant-based medicaments. This approach has paid rich dividends in developing cheaper, safer, effective and eco-friendly remedies, which recently has gained worldwide attention. Cissus quadrangularis, Linn (Syn. Vitis quadrangularis, Wall; Heliotropium indicum, Linn) is a tender climber with fleshy quadrangular stems and grows in the hotter parts of Indian subcontinent, Sri Lanka and East Africa. In Hindi it is known as hardjore; in English as adamant creeper, bonesetter; in Ceylon as hiressa; in China as di xanh voung; in Burma as shazam-lese and in Bangladesh as harbhanga. Considering the advantage of herbal medicines, it is planned in this chapter to investigate the efficacy of Cissus quadrangularis, Linn, in one of the most commonly encountered problem of fractures in small animals.

Dried ethanolic extract of Cissus quadrangularis (CQ) is obtained from 500g of dried finely powered stems using soxhlet apparatus. It is dissolved in a vanishing base to make a semi-solid paste for local application. For parental use, this extract is reconstituted with distilled water (100 mg/ml) and filtered.

Twelve clinically healthy mongrel adult dogs aged 2-3 years and weighing 10-15 kg is randomly divided into two equal groups (A and B). In all animals operative site is prepared for aseptic surgery. Premedication is done with atropine sulphate @ 0.06 mg/ kg body weight subcutaneously and anaesthesia is achieved with a combination of Xylazine hydrochloride @ 1 mg/kg body wt. and Ketamine hydrochloride @ 10 mg/kg body wt. intravenously. Unilateral comminuted diaphyseal femoral osteotomy is created under general anaesthesia and the bone defect is immobilized with neutralization bone plating (AO/ASIF technique). All the animals are administered 5 mg/kg b wt Enrofloxacin intramuscularly for 5 d and 1 mg/ kg b wt Diclofenac sodium injection intramuscularly for 5 d postoperatively. Skin sutures are removed after 10 days. In the animals of group B, in addition to the postoperative treatment, the ethanolic extract of the herb, Cissus quadrangularis is applied on the skin twice daily along with subcutaneous injection (50 mg/ kg body wt.) on every alternate day for 20 d postoperatively.

One of the major goals in agricultural crop management is to achieve maximum yield with minimum investment while maintaining a good quality of the crop produce. Crop infestation due to insects, diseases, and weeds are some of the major factors responsible for loss in crop yield. Further, an efficient Precision Agriculture Crop Management System is one, which is capable of precisely detecting the crop yield indicators (or crop health parameters) at an early stage and can predict the yield at any point of time of the crop cycle.

It is a very important and commonly found disease of chili which observed in field as well as in storage. It is also known as anthracnose disease which is mostly seen in tropical and sub tropical regions.
