It is an easy, non-invasive, bed side technique for continuous monitoring the saturation of oxygen bound to hemoglobin (SpO2). The technique was invented by Dr. Takuo Aoyagi in 1974 to measure oxygen saturation in the blood. During recent years it has shown great utility in patient care. The oxygen saturation of hemoglobin provides a measure of cardio-respiratory functioning. Pulse oximeters generally used in humans are not appropriate for the use in dogs and cats as these are designed to apply on fingers and programmed with the oxygen hemoglobin dissociation curve for humans.

Indications

Pulse oximetry is an important standard technique of patient care in cases of heart failure, respiratory failure, multiple organ failure, critical care, emergency, accident and during anesthesia.

INTRODUCTION

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food producing sector with annual growth rate of 10.34% and it play a very important role in improving the income generation as well as nutritional security of farmers in many developing countries including India. In the fresh water system, carps are the most widely cultured species throughout the country and carp culture in India is believed to be as old as carp culture in China. Although in early years, carp culture was largely restricted to the North-Eastern States of India, during the last four to five decades, it has spread to almost all parts. The traditional carp culture practice is rapidly transforming into scientific farming in several parts of India. Generally, carp culture in India is a polyculture of 3-6 species of major carps and exotic carps (Vijay Anand, 2019), namely, catla (Catla catla), rohu (Labeo rohita), mrigal (Cirrhinus mrigala), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Among six species, common carp (Cyprinus carpio) cultured in the composite fish farming system is potential species, which plays a vital role in the Inland Fish production especially for the North Eastern Hill states of India as the species has got high adaptability and tolerance towards high range of temperature and dissolved oxygen variation. The species is introduced to India in 1937 as the Prussian strain and in 1957 as the Bangkok strain. Due to their high food value, the farmers of the state have been culturing the fish in rice fields in monoculture or along with other species particularly in Apatani Plateau of Ziro area gaining an average weight 75g to 110g (Hussain et al., 2018).

Introduction

Paper can be broadly classified into two categories: coarse papers, which are normally made of unbleached Kraft softwood pulp and used for packing, and f ine papers, which are usually composed of bleached pulp and used for writing paper, bond, ledger, book, and cover sheets.

Kraft paper

Usually produced on a Fourdrinier machine, kraft paper is gritty and incredibly strong. It is then either machine-glazed on a Yankee dryer or machine-finished on a calendar. Sometimes it isn't calendared so that the rough surface will keep the bags from slipping over one another when they're stacked on pallets.

Introduction

The gut microbiota is the complex and dynamic community of microorganisms that includes various bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms, proliferate and lead a symbiotic/mutual relationship with the host system. These microorganisms protect the host against pathogens by unique mechanisms, helps to maintain shape and strengthen the intestinal epithelium and boost immune response. Diverse bacterial metabolites can immigrate the host bloodstream and other parts of the body via various channels in humans and animals, such as gut-microbiota-brain, gut microbiota-skin, gut-vagina, gut liver, gut-bones etc. However, many aspects of modern lifestyle would alter the gut microbiota and lead to numerous diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Probiotics and other beneficial microbes exert many beneficial effects on their hosts by modulating the gut microbiota. While the term probiotic is reserved only for well-characterised strains with clinically proven health benefits, other beneficial microorganisms include, organisms responsible for the fermentation of foods viz. yogurt, kefir, kombucha, kimchi and many others that have been shown to have distinct health benefits. Interestingly, major group of these beneficial organisms belong to lactic acid bacteria.

Livestock plays a vital role in any country’s economy as animals are a source of livelihood for people, providing milk, meat, and fur, and are used for agricultural work. Hence, the loss of animals due to disease or any other reason results in loss of wealth, livelihood, and nutrition. In view of this, management of mortality on farms is of utmost importance. There are different ways to manage and dispose of dead animals. The acceptable methods to manage mortality include composting, rendering, incineration, landfills, burial, and disposal pits. Composting is one of the options for managing mortality on farms. Composting is the decomposing of carcasses by natural processes, viz the use of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms to convert organic matter into a stable product called compost. Composting involves the degradation of the carcass by anaerobic bacteria to convert it into liquid material with odor and gases such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia)The anaerobic process produces heat that kills many viruses and bacteria and allows the growth of only heat-tolerant bacteria)The temperature continues to rise and peaks between 130 to 160 0F. Composting requires a source of energy

Introduction: Most young rabbits will be used for meat and skins; some will be kept for breeding. Whatever they are used for, the rabbit keeper will benefit if they are well cared for.

Handling of Rabbits: There will be times in any rabbitry when the animals will have to be picked up, e.g. when a doe is moved to a breeding hutch or when young rabbits are weaned.

When it is necessary to pick up a rabbit for any purpose, the aim should be to cause it no discomfort and to prevent it struggling. So it must be handled gently but firmly. There are three ways to hold a rabbit according to its size.

Mango, Banana, Citrus, Papaya, Guava etc. The term pomology is a combination of two words “Poma” in Greek means Fruits later subsequently transfer in to “Pome” in Latin word means Fruits and Logos means Study.

15.1. General Barriers and IB Strategies to Overcome

There are extensive barriers when it comes to doing business with people at the base of the pyramid. This is because of the market inefficiencies and high transaction costs that can render businesses unprofitable, particularly in the short run. For instance, customers in remote rural areas are hard to reach as the necessary infrastructure is not available. General barriers to IB models include:

• Shortages of adequate infrastructure such as roads, energy, water etc., particularly in rural areas and urban slums.

• The need to create a market (i.e. encourage demand): many goods and services are known as ‘push’ products (e.g. waste management and preventive healthcare). It is necessary to raise awareness about them in order to stimulate demand; new distribution channels must also be created.

• The lack of knowledge and skills among the poor, to act either as clients or as suppliers and employees.

• Complex or hostile regulatory or legal environments, affected by weak institutions and insufficient enforcement of rules and contracts. IB models overcome these barriers through innovation and by employing additional, targeted measures. Indeed, the strategies they use to overcome barriers to doing business with the BoP are one of the main defining features of IB models. These measures can be categorised as follows.

Horticulture value chains are facing growing consumer expectations for variety, food safety and security. There has been a paradigm shift in the poultry sector regarding its structure and operations. Over five decades, backyard farming has transformed into a dynamic commercial agri-business. Electrocardiography is a non-invasive diagnostic technique routinely used to examine the electrical activity of the heart in health and diseases. It is an important tool for the clinical evaluation of the heart. The technique provides important information regarding heart rate, heart rhythm, impulse formation and its conduction. Heart size can also be assessed to some extent in humans and dogs. The process of electrocardiography leads to generation of an electrocardiogram as a consequence of depolarization and repolarization of heart muscle cells during each heartbeat.

This chapter introduces the major animal-derived textile fibres and distinguishes wool from fur, pelts and specialty fibres. A suitable site for housing is very important. It is better to select a site which has good drainage, adequate shade like under trees, and with sufficient surrounding space from strong winds. Basically the shelter must protect rabbits from extreme temperatures and predators like snakes, mongoose, dogs and other animals.

Rabbits can be raised inside the building also or outside in hutches with a protective roof. A hutch is a small building containing cages for housing a few rabbits (6 to 12) a back-yard scale. They are generally made of wood or stone one and chicken wire mesh. The floor may be made of a stronger ranger mesh or soil floor bedded with straw. Hutches can also be constructed with local building materials such as tree and woven split bamboo, etc.

1. Introduction

Several herbs have been used traditionally to prevent and treat human and animal diseases. Recently, scientific evaluation of plants and preparations of plant origin medications have received more attention. Cassia occidentalis had been reported to be used as antidote of poison, blood purifier, expectorant, anti inflammatory agent and a remedy for the treatment of liver diseases (Ghani, 1920, Kabiruddin, 1951). C occidentalis was tested for antifeedant and insecticidal properties. It was studied successfully for its anti-parasitic (Tona et al., 1999), hepatoprotective activity (Jafri et al., 1999). Stimulation of the immune system is highly desirable for the treatment of immunodeficiency and infectious diseases. The  anti-inflammatory and hepato protective effects of C occidentalis may relate to an influence of plant compounds on immunocompetent cells. The present study was undertaken to find out the effect of methanolic extract of C occidentalis leaves on the humoral immune response in rabbits.

The transition from conventional to organic farming requires numerous changes. One of the biggest changes is in the mindset of the farmer. Conventional approaches often involve the use of quick-fix remedies that, unfortunately, rarely address the cause of the problem. Transitioning farmers generally spend too much time worrying about replacing synthetic input with allowable organic product instead of considering management practices based on preventative strategies. Here are a few steps new entrants should follow when making the transition to organic farming:

20.1. Understand the Basics of Organic Agriculture and the Organic Farming Standards

Since organic production systems are knowledge based, new entrants and transitional producers must become familiar with sound and sustainable agricultural practices. Transitional producers should be prepared to read appropriate information, conduct their own trials and participate in formal and informal training events. As mentioned, switching from conventional to organic farming is more than substituting synthetic materials to organic allowed materials. Organic farming is a holistic system that relies on sound practices focused on preventative strategies. Since there are often few organic remedies available to organic producers for certain problems, prevention is the key element in organic production.
