Introduction

Impact assessment (IA) is defined as "a set of logical steps to be followed in the preparation of policy proposals. It is an essential tool to ensure that policies are crafted based on transparent, inclusive, and balanced procedures, define the various quality standards, and provide basic instructions to the impact assessment process" (European Commission).

Introduction

A case study involves a thorough examination of an individual, group, or event, delving into nearly every facet of their life and history to identify patterns and causes of behaviour. This investigative approach finds application across diverse fields such as psychology, medicine, education, anthropology, political science, and social work. The primary objective of a case study is to acquire comprehensive knowledge about a specific individual or group, enabling the generalization of information to a broader audience. However, it is worth noting that case studies often exhibit a high degree of subjectivity, making it challenging at times to extrapolate results to a larger population.

Abstract

Financial analysis evaluates the performance and suitability of enterprises, projects, budgets, and other financial-related institutions. It determines if a business is secure, financially sound, liquid, or profitable enough to warrant a financial commitment. Accurate records and financial statements provide the essential information for analyzing the financial situation and trends of a farm operation. A financial analyst examines the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.

Project Planning Matrix

• Generally, a project represents a single, focused effort. Programs are collections of projects together that constitute a complete package of work. The program's overall objectives are achieved through the complementarily of the various projects.
• The PPM is a matrix of four columns and four rows providing sixteen squares for a comprehensive description of a project.
• PPM shows both the project's logical structure (the links between the inputs/activities and the objectives to be achieved under certain Assumptions), and its major quantitative data.

Abstract

Many obstacles hinder agriculture credit in rural regions: insufficient funding, failure to reach vulnerable rural residents, especially marginal and small farmers, and lack of local focus in agriculture credit distribution. India adopted a “Social and Development Banking” policy after nationalizing commercial banks in 1969. This policy aimed to solve some of these issues and boost the supply of formal credit to the agriculture sector. Rural communities would benefit from more loans at competitive interest rates due to this policy. In the 2000s, agriculture credit grew annually by 17.6%, much higher than the 2.6% growth rate in the 1990s. The increase in agriculture credit had three distinct features: indirect financing, a sharp rise in loans of Rs. 10 crore and above, and growing availability of agriculture credit through urban bank branches. The revival of agriculture lending in the 2000s mostly benefited small farmers and marginal farmers

Abstract

This chapter explains SWOT analysis, a tool for corporate planning to evaluate how an organisation compares with its rivals. It stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Albert Humphrey is traditionally considered the originator of the plan in the 1960s, but this claim is disputed. No one agrees on who created it. It has become useful for differentiating from and finding a niche within the larger market. It is also called the SWOT Matrix. SWOT Analysis is a tool that can apply outside of business to analyse a person’s status against their competitors. The tool considers both internal and external factors. The terms “weaknesses” and “strengths” relate internally. The former is a characteristic of a company or other entity that gives it a disadvantage over rivals. The latter is a trait of that same entity, which gives it an advantage over its rivals. For external factors, “opportunity” are aspects of the larger environment that the entity can exploit to its benefit. However, “threats” are also realities in the larger environment, which could harm the entity.

Introduction

Agricultural extension has been developing from past more than 100 years. The term was first used by Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, in the year 1867. Chinese people have been following extension approximately from past 2000 years. There are four generations of agricultural extension in Asia: colonial, diverse top-down, unified top-down and diverse bottom-up extension. Communication takes place mainly in two ways in extension system: paternalism versus participation and persuasion versus education, which aims to change behaviour of rural people. Many approaches have emerged in extension which includes ICT based extension.

Food processing is the transformation of agricultural products into food, or conversion of foods of one form into other forms. Food processing includes various operations viz. grinding grain to make raw flour to home cooking to complex industrial methods used to make convenience foods. The processes and procedures used to transform one or more raw ingredients into a consumable product are all included in food processing units. Animal husbandry, horticulture, plantations, agriculture, and fisheries include the use of food processing facilities. It also includes other sectors that produce finished food goods using agricultural inputs.

The supply chain management is the management of a network of interconnected businesses involved in the ultimate provision of product and service required by the end customer (Mentzer, 2007). The horticultural supply chain includes entire vertical chain of activities from the supply of input (seed, fertilizer, chemicals) through production, postharvest operations, distribution and retail. Presently, not many details are available in the public domain related to the supply chain management of agricultural commodities in India. There is a need for a new revolution to bring down the prices of agricultural produce for consumers through an efficient supply chain management and incentivize farmers to increase their production (Roy, 2015).

Team Building

The effectiveness of the organization will depend on the extent to which the individuals and groups work as teams. People vary in their need to belong to teams. Some people are loners, while to others it gives them satisfaction to be a part of the team. However, the demands of an organization are such people have to work as teams to get the work done and achieve set goals and objectives. When work together, they use two types of skills-task and process. Since process influences, often critically, task results it follows that people need to develop both sorts of skills, and to be aware of them in others. The operative and cooperative processes will have bearing on team building. In other words, the extent to which the people in a group are able to develop a common vision and method of work to be done will help groups of people to emerge as teams.

The business plan answers the key questions about the business: who, what, where, when, why, and how. For a developing business, it begins the process of making an idea materialize into reality and determining whether or not an idea should become reality. It also establishes goals and benchmarks for the business. A comprehensive business plan makes it easier for a business to receive external support, especially in terms of financing from potential investors, lenders, and grant sources. Finally, and possible most importantly, going through the process of planning is very valuable because it forces the business owners and/or managers to think through every detail of the business.

Horticultural extension also known as a horticultural advisory service plays a crucial role in boosting horticultural productivity, increasing food security, improving rural livelihoods and promoting horticulture as an engine of economic growth in rural areas. Horticultural Extension needs to provide a critical support service for rural farmers at the same time meeting the new challenges faced by them in their farming. Horticultural extension in remote and hilly terrains is difficult and time consuming, requiring some innovative methodologies to meet the farmers needs and expectations. At KVK we decided to experiment with an idea of a farmers collective organization, established and nurtured right from the beginning at KVK itself with support from its host organization (ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru) and NABARD, Kodagu.
