Cooling systems play a vital role in cold chain logistics, serving as essential components that regulate temperature for storage, processing, and transportation. An efficient cooling system ensures that food and other perishable products remain fresh for extended periods, even before they begin their journey. Various cold chain products require specific temperature settings to maintain their quality and integrity until they reach their final destination.
For instance, tropical fruits such as bananas and pineapples must be stored at a consistent temperature between 12°C and 14°C. If the temperature exceeds this range, the fruits may ripen prematurely, compromising their quality. Likewise, food items like milk, vegetables, and other perishable fruits should be cooled within the range of 2°C to 4°C. This temperature effectively eliminates harmful pathogens and prevents bacterial growth, preserving the freshness of the produce.
For businesses dealing with frozen food, seafood, or ice cream, a more advanced cooling system is necessary—one that can maintain temperatures as low as -30°C. Such systems are essential to prevent thawing and spoilage, ensuring that frozen goods remain in optimal condition throughout their transportation and storage.

Coordinate Reference System (CRS) is a framework of coordinate based local, regional or global reference system used to represent the locations of geographic features. Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS) provide a standardized way to define the real-world geographic locations which further enable us to use common locations of geographic datasets for integration. The datasets from different sources and CRS are transformed to a common CRS in order to perform various integrated analytical operations like overlaying of data layers. Coordinate Reference Systems are mainly of two types:

1. Geographic Coordinate System: This is global or spherical coordinate system in which locations of features on earth are defined in terms of latitude and longitude values. Latitude and longitude are angles based on a point at the centre of the earth. In this system, locations are defined by degrees, therefore, distances cannot be measured accurately. The most common geographic coordinate system is the World Geodetic System 84 (WGS84).
2. Projected Coordinate System: In this system, locations of features are defined using cartesian x, y coordinates on a flat, two – dimensional surface. This system is based on sphere or ellipsoid projected on flat surface. Projected Coordinate System are generally referred as projec- tion. It is required for preparing maps on paper or computer screen. Un- like Geographic Coordinate System, projected coordinate system has ac- curate measurements of distance, angles and areas across the two dimen- sions. However, there is alwaystrade-offs between area, direction, shape, and distance in this system due to distortions created while representing ellipsoid or spheroid on a flat map. So, the projection type is selected based on its application. Most common projections are Universal Trans- verse Mercator (UTM), Lambert Conformal Conic and Albers Equal Area.

Correlation and regression are essential statistical tools for examining relationships among climate variables and agricultural responses. Correlation measures the strength and direction of association, while regression develops mathematical relationships for explanation and prediction. This chapter discusses their application to rainfall, temperature, humidity, evapotranspiration, crop growth and yield. It explains simple and multiple relationships, assumptions, interpretation, model fitting, predictive power and potential errors. These methods support crop-weather modelling, yield forecasting, climate-impact assessment and agricultural decision-making. By identifying how climatic variables influence biological and production processes, correlation and regression analysis help researchers generate reliable predictions and design more resilient and productive agricultural management strategies under changing environmental conditions.

12.1 Introduction

It is important to note that growing crops in a greenhouse requires a significant f inancial and administrative commitment. In order to ensure profitability, firms need to consider both cash flow and profitability. An enterprise budget can help address profitability potential by itemizing costs incurred across a typical production cycle. On the other hand, a cash flow budget is used to analyze the cash inflows and outflows of the enterprise over a fixed period of time.

There are different types of greenhouses, the low cost and high cost or low technology or high technology greenhouses. The cost of greenhouse and expenditure on crop production under these greenhouses would vary according to technology to be used and the crop is to be produced. The cost would vary from place to place with location of greenhouse. For each type of greenhouse its cost would vary according to geo-climate, the production practices and input expenditure/availability. The cost of construction of greenhouse in 2019 hence varies from Rupees 500 to 6000 per square meter.

Cost estimation is a critical step in the planning and implementation of conservation structures, providing a foundation for project approval, budgeting, and economic evaluation. For drop spillways—hydraulic structures used in soil and water conservation—the process involves calculating all expenses associated with materials, labor, and ancillary charges.
Drop spillways are engineered to safely transport excess runoff from higher elevations to lower ground levels, preventing erosion and structural degradation. Commonly used in agricultural watersheds, these structures play a vital role in controlling gully erosion, managing stormwater, and maintaining land productivity.
Accurate cost estimation includes:
• Quantifying construction materials such as concrete, masonry, reinforcement bars, and pipe outlets.
• Calculating labor costs based on the skilled and unskilled labor required for excavation, form, and structural assembly.
• Adding overhead charges, including land revenue, administrative costs, and potential audit expenses.
A detailed cost estimate ensures that the project remains within budget while meeting safety, durability, and environmental standards. It also aids in comparing alternatives and securing funding or approvals from governing agencies.

Estimating the cost of different conservation structures involves analyzing both material and labor expenses specific to each type of structure. This process plays a vital role in project approval and economic assessment. It includes calculating material quantities, labor charges, and additional costs such as audit fees and land revenue.

5.1. Cost concepts

Cost refers to the money value of effort extended or sacrifice made in producing an article or rendering a service or achieving a specific purpose.

Expenses incurred in organizing and carrying out production process.

Includes outlays of funds for inputs and services.

Total costs: Money value of all inputs used in the production process.

3.1. Conventional farming

Refers to the use of synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and other continual inputs, genetically modified organisms, heavy irrigation, intensive tillage and concentrated monoculture production.

Highly resource and energy intensive, but also highly productive.

Conventional farming typically involves monocropping, but very expensive.

The manuscript was completed in February 2020. The book was supposed to be out in print form in April 2020. In between the pandemic changed the world. Obviously, world changing events can’t be left out of the book, particularly if the book is about the future of science, engineering, technology and humanity. I, therefore, requested the publisher of the book for the inclusion of a chapter COVID crisis and its impact on the future of the world. He readily agreed.

I am sincerely grateful to the publisher for allowing me to include issues relevant for the present book, as an additional chapter at the end of the book. The subject at the moment looks unending and it has so many dimensions. I have tried to cover them as briefly as possible, in the context of the book. The pandemic of this proportion is expected to get the views/suggestions from equally large number of people. Everyone is eager to see the end of the pandemic. And everyone has realised that the world will be a much different place. Some people are hopeful that the problems will be resolved, of course using multi-dimensional approaches. Not many are sure of the time frame. There is also pessimism among common people. One of my aunt’s asks me - what kind of research we have been doing all these years that we can’t even face the challenges posed by a mere virus? Has the balloon of the technology busted by a miniscule virus? In this fluid time many questions are being asked, and as many answers are also emerging. It is a big issue. It is as big as that emerged after the Second World War. Some are calling it the ‘birth of a new power’.

Drought is a recurrent feature of climate or climatic anomaly or weather related natural disaster. It occurs when the precipitation remains deficient over an extended period of time, usually for a season or more and affects water shortage in water bodies, streams, soil moisture, ground water etc. resulting into low crop production and economic performance of large regions or entire country. Drought occurs in virtually all regions varying its severity, low and high from regions to regions.

Introduction

Crop discrimination is the process of using remote-sensing technologies to identify and characterize different types of crops based on their electromagnetic behavior at different wavelengths. Each crop has a unique spectral signature that reflects its response to the incident radiation. However, the spectral signature can also vary depending on the season, the angle of the sensor, crop’s features, illumination intensity, weather phenomenon, and topography among other external factors (Parida et al., 2023).

ABSTRACT

Greenseeker is a handheld computer mounted sensor for observing normalized difference vegetation Index [NDVI= (NIR “R)/(NIR+R)], which may be used to estimate site specific amount of fertilizer nitrogen depending up on the crop condition. The sensor can be used for yield estimation and developing remote sensing based growth models. It is an active sensor with a built in light source for illuminating the target and records reflected light from vegetation at wavelength of 670 nm (red region) and 780 nm (near infrared region) of electromagnetic spectrum. The swath covered by the Sensor is 0.75 m when sensor is placed about 1.0 m above crop canopy.

The sensor was used to record NDVI in wheat- sugarcane intercropping system wherein wheat was grown on raised beds of 1.04 m width with six rows of wheat and sugarcane in furrows at row spacing of 1.38 m. The wheat variety PBW 343 was sown with nitrogen levels @ 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 and 210 kg N ha^-1 (all basal) and sugarcane variety CoSe 92423 was planted in furrows on 7^th November, 2006 in a medium textured loam soil.

The NDVI was recorded in wheat at 17, 41, 59, 73, 88, 113 and 129 DAS using Greenseeker and Spectroradiometer (UNISPEC ^TM of PP system, USA) simulating normal satellite bands i.e.

NIR: 770-860 nm, Red: 620-680 nm, Green: 520-580 nm. The maximum NDVI (recorded at 88 DAS) was used to develop INSEY “ yield relationship in wheat. The NDVI recorded by Greenseeker was integrated with NDVI recorded by Spectroradiometer.

The Greenseeker was also used to monitor crop growth in sugarcane. The NDVI was correlated with shoot population, plant height, LAI and total biomass during formative and crop elongation phase of sugarcane till end of November 2007. Highly significant (at 1%) correlation was observed between GS- NDVI and shoot population till mid August and LAI in sugarcane for entire crop cycle. An exponential model (R² = 0.9017) was developed to estimate LAI of sugarcane from NDVI. The NDVI was significantly (at 5 %) was correlated with plant height till mid August. However, the correlation between total crop biomass in sugarcane and NDVI remained non-significant.

Abstract

This paper portray the generation of spectral signature library for semi arid area crops using hyperspectral data and the scope of the application of the generated digital library for the classification of the satellite imagery of similar regions.

Hypersprctral data have narrow bands which help to provide additional information related to observed features. In case of this agriculture study crop related information are gathered using hyperspectral sensors The variation in the observations are due to physic-chemical characteristics such as biochemical composition, physical structure, water content and plant ecophysical status. Using the hand held spectroradiometer the reflectance is captured for the bajra, moong, moth crops from the Rajasthan, India’s semi arid region. The observations have been taken for different dates considering the phenology of the crops. Hyperion data from EO-1 satellite have been used to implement the classification operation based on the spectral signature library of bajra. It is observed that the image with the crops can be classified according to the phenology difference.

Building upon this understanding, This chapter delves into one of the most vital applications of system simulation in agriculture: crop models. These sophisticated computational tools stand as the cornerstone for quantitatively representing the intricate interplay between the soil, the plant, and the atmosphere, providing a dynamic lens through which to examine agricultural productivity and resource use efficiency. Crop models are essentially mathematical descriptions that mimic the growth, development, and yield of agricultural crops under various environmental conditions and management practices. They encapsulate our scientific understanding of how plants absorb light, water, and nutrients, how they convert these resources into biomass, and how they respond to stresses like drought, heat, or nutrient deficiency. Far from being mere statistical regressions, these are often process-based models, meaning they attempt to simulate the underlying biological, physical, and chemical mechanisms that govern crop performance. By integrating knowledge from disciplines such as plant physiology, soil science, meteorology, and agronomy, crop models provide a holistic and dynamic representation of the entire agricultural system. The evolution of crop modeling has mirrored advancements in computational power and scientific understanding. From early empirical models that relied heavily on statistical relationships between yield and a few environmental factors, the field has progressed to complex mechanistic models that simulate detailed physiological processes on a daily or even hourly basis. This evolution has transformed crop models from purely research-oriented tools into powerful instruments for real-world decision-making. Their ability to conduct virtual experiments—simulating hundreds or thousands of growing seasons

The preceding chapter elucidated the concepts of potential and achievable crop production, highlighting the significant gap that often exists between a crop‘s theoretical maximum yield and what is realized in the field. While genetic potential and optimal climatic conditions define the upper limits, the vast majority of agricultural systems globally operate under less-than-ideal circumstances. Among the most pervasive and impactful constraints on crop productivity are moisture (water) and nutrient limitations. These two factors, either individually or in complex interaction, are frequently the primary drivers of the yield gap, preventing crops from expressing their full genetic potential and significantly impacting farm profitability and regional food security. Water, as the universal solvent and a direct participant in photosynthesis and countless metabolic processes, is indispensable for plant life. However, its availability in agricultural systems is highly variable and often insufficient. From the rainfed fields dependent on increasingly erratic rainfall patterns to irrigated lands facing dwindling water resources, moisture stress – encompassing both drought and, paradoxically, waterlogging – poses an immense challenge. Drought alone accounts for a substantial portion of global crop losses, directly affecting plant physiological functions, growth, and ultimately, yield. Conversely, excessive moisture can lead to anaerobic soil conditions, nutrient leaching, and root damage, equally debilitating for crop performance. Parallel to moisture, the availability and judicious management of essential plant nutrients are foundational to productive agriculture. Plants require a suite of macro- and micronutrients for healthy growth, enzymatic activity, and the synthesis of biomass. Soils, over time and with continuous cropping, often become depleted of these vital elements, necessitating external application through fertilizers or the enhancement of natural nutrient cycling processes. However, nutrient management in the field is rarely perfect. Deficiencies of

Large quantities of crop residues are produced and if properly used, they can provide cost effective means for supplying organic matter, plant nutrients and improved soil health. The highly lignocellulosic nature of crop residues indicate their potential role in maintaining soil organic matter and enriching the soils with N-rich microbial biomass resulting from decompositions. However, their indiscriminate handling often burning leads to decline in soil health, air pollution and overall loss. Since most crop residues find use as feed and fuel, efficient recycling of the remaining amount can have very significant and positive effect.

Crop water requirement is the water required by the plants for its survival, growth, development and to produce economic parts. This requirement is applied either naturally by precipitation or artificially by irrigation. Hence the crop water requirement includes all losses like:

• Transpiration loss through leaves (T)

• Evaporation loss through soil surface in cropped area (E)

• Amount of weather used by plants (WP) for its metabolic activities which is estimated as less than 1% of the total water absorption. These three components cannot be separated so easily. Hence the ET loss is taken as crop water use or crop water consumptive use.

• Other application losses are conveyance loss, percolation loss, runoff loss, etc., (WL).

• The water required for special purposes (WSP) like puddling operation, ploughing operation, land preparation, leaching, requirement, for the purpose of weeding, for dissolving fertilizer and chemical, etc.

These calendars are far more than mere chronological charts; they represent systematically organized and dynamic compilations of meteorological information meticulously integrated with precise crop-specific data, designed to serve as an indispensable guide for optimizing agricultural practices. In this chapter, we will embark on a comprehensive exploration of Crop Weather Calendars, moving beyond the often informal or culturally embedded ecological calendars previously discussed. We will delve into how these powerful tools systematically integrate historical weather patterns, which involves analyzing longterm meteorological data to establish reliable averages and identify probabilities of specific weather events, such as the typical onset of monsoons, average frost dates, or periods of peak solar radiation. They also incorporate real-time meteorological data, bringing in current weather observations to track actual conditions against historical norms and initial forecasts. Furthermore, Crop Weather Calendars utilize future weather forecasts, drawing on short-, medium-, and long-range meteorological predictions to anticipate upcoming conditions (Fig.12.1). This integrated weather information is then critically aligned with the precise phenological stages of a given crop cultivar, recognizing that a crop’s sensitivity and requirements vary significantly throughout its life cycle. Our exploration will detail the essential components that constitute a robust crop weather calendar, including the identification of crucial growth periods, pinpointing the most sensitive and influential developmental stages of the crop like germination, tillering, flowering, and grain filling, where weather impacts are most pronounced. It also involves the establishment of weather thresholds, which means defining the optimal, critical, and damaging ranges of key weather

Climate, soil, input and management factors influence the crop yield. Weather is the most important natural input that affects the agricultural production and productivity. The agricultural activities starting from the land preparation to harvest and post-harvest storage are greatly influenced by the weather. The effects of weather on crops may be direct such as those of precipitation, solar radiation, humidity, temperature, etc., or indirect such as those of pest, diseases, weed competition, etc. Thus, the success or failure of a crop is determined by the prevailing weather conditions. Although influence of weather conditions on yield is well established, the quantitative assessment is not always straight forward and simple. The quantitative assessment of the effect of weather on crops is an important application of agrometeorology. The relationship between weather and crop production has been understood through crop weather modelling and study on this aspect through a systematic approach started a century ago. The aim of developing crop weather models is to ensure better utilisation of resources and hence a more environmental friendly and sustainable agriculture.

A model is a schematic representation of the conception of a system or an act of mimicry or a set of equations, which represents the behaviour of a system. Its purpose is usually to aid in explaining, understanding or improving performance of a system. Agricultural models are mathematical equations that represent the reactions occurring within the plant and the interactions between the plant and its environment. However, it is a difficult task to represent any system completely in mathematical terms because of the complexity of the system. Universal models do not exist for the agricultural systems and agricultural models are built for specific purposes and the level of complexity is accordingly adopted. Different models are developed for different subsystems and several models may be built to simulate a particular crop or a particular aspect of the production system. Crop weather models may be defined as a simplified representation of the complex relationships between weather or climate on one hand and crop performance such as growth, yield or yield components, on the other hand by using mathematical and/or statistical techniques

Applied agroclimatology integrates climatology with agronomy to understand and manage interactions between weather, climate, crops, soils and agricultural resources. It converts climatic observations and forecasts into practical information for sowing, irrigation, fertilizer application, pest management and harvesting. This chapter introduces agro-meteorological processes, crop-environment relationships, resource management and climate-smart decision-making. It explains how increasing temperatures, altered rainfall, droughts, floods and extreme weather threaten agricultural productivity and farmer livelihoods. Agroclimatic zoning, crop-calendar adjustment, suitable variety selection, early-warning systems and weather-based insurance are discussed as important approaches for strengthening food security, managing climate risks and developing resilient agricultural systems.

Introduction

Advances in food preservation methods have supported the journey of food science from that of a cookery science to a fast growing industrial technology. Food preservation knowledge deals with the way to prevent spoilage and maintenance of quality in foods. Spoilage is the deterioration in quality brought about by inherent biochemical and chemical changes, as well as microbial metabolism during food storage. Basic principles of food preservation (Frazier et al., 2008) remains the same, but newer methods for achieving the goal is added through research fuelled by a consumer demand for fresh-like foods with convenience and safety. Scientific information on novel processing methods are beautifully compiled (Cullen et al., 2011; Da-Wen Sun, 2014; Tokuþoðlu and Swanson 2015; Doona, 2018).

In-depth knowledge of physiological activities of micro-organisms in presence of preservation agents is essential for preparation of safe foods with prolonged shelf life. Besides this, it is necessary to understand the effect of food constituents on microbial resistance against inactivation agents, to identify critical dose requirement. This profound knowledge would also help to understand kinetics of microbial inactivation and to develop mathematical models suitable for a realistic design of process parameters. For better appreciation of the following sections, readers are encouraged to have fundamental knowledge in microbiology and food processing. The sections in this chapter cover advanced microbiological knowledge pertaining to the preservation aspects of food.

1. Introduction 
The intersection of nanotechnology and microalgal biodiesel production presents a compelling avenue for addressing the pressing challenges of sustainability, energy security, and environmental conservation (Cai et al., 2021a). Microalgae, microscopic photosynthetic organisms, have emerged as a promising source for biodiesel due to their high lipid content, rapid growth rates, and potential for cultivation in diverse environments as compare to other sources as given in Fig. 1. However, the commercialization of microalgal biodiesel has been hampered by various limitations, including low lipid productivity, inefficient harvesting techniques, and high production costs. Nanotechnology, with its ability to manipulate materials at the nanoscale, offers innovative solutions to enhance various stages of microalgal biodiesel production. From cultivation to processing, nanomaterials and nanodevices hold the potential to optimize efficiency, increase yields, and reduce environmental impacts. By improving light penetration, nutrient delivery, and CO2 utilization, nanotechnology-enabled systems enhance microalgal growth and lipid accumulation (Li et al., 2019; Cai et al., 2021b). Moreover, nanoscale structures facilitate the development of efficient harvesting methods, minimizing energy consumption and water usage. In biodiesel processing, nanocatalysts exhibit superior catalytic activity, enabling faster reaction times and higher yields in transesterification processes. Nanostructured membranes enhance the purification and separation of biodiesel, ensuring high-quality end products with minimal impurities. Despite these advancements, challenges such as scalability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability of nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel production persist (Zhao et al., 2018; Zhang et al., 2019). This chapter aims to provide an overview of the current status and future prospects of integrating nanotechnology into microalgal biodiesel production. Through a 2 | Nanotools for Microalgal Biodiesel Production comprehensive analysis of recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities, we seek to elucidate the potential of nanotechnology to drive the commercialization and widespread adoption of sustainable microalgal biodiesel. By fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and leveraging emerging technologies, we can pave the way towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

    1.    The heifer is bred (naturally or by insemination) before the age of two years.

    2.    The gestation period is nine months and one week.

    3.    After calving, the cow gives milk for 10 months.

    4.    1 – 2 months after calving the cow will again be bred.

    5.    The cow then continues to give milk for about 300 days. This period is known as lactation.

    6.    Milk should preferably be handled in a closed system, to minimise the risk of contamination. It must be cooled to 4 °C as soon as it is produced.

Solution: The summary statistics of the data using MS – excel can be obtained / analyzed through following steps:

Step 1: Open Excel sheet and feed the data as given in Fig. 8.1.

Step 2: Go to data menu and select Data Analysis. Sometimes this menu is not available in the data, it can be added through add in → check in, analysis tool pack → go. It will appear as the way showing in Fig. 8.1.

2.1. Open source satellite data

The satellite images have been invaluable information sources for Natural Resource Management. They provide synoptic view of the Earth periodically helping in inventory, surveying, and monitoring in agriculture, hydrology, geology, mineralogy, land cover, land use and environment. Free global satellite image data of spatial resolutions of 1m to 1 km and spectral resolution of single band to hyperspectral are available from an increasing number of sources (Table 2.1).

Abstract

Carrying out effective and sustainable agriculture has become an important issue in recent years. A key to this is the usage of modern technologies for precision agriculture. Recent technological developments allowed envisioning sensor devices with distributed ambient sensory network, which could be a potential technology for monitoring various natural phenomena (weather parameters, soil moisture, etc.) at micro level. As more and more agricultural data are virtually being harvested along with the crops and are being collected/ stored in databases, the same can be used in productive decision making if appropriate data mining techniques are developed/applied. As a case study for this, an experiment was conducted with four consecutive agricultural (Kharif and Rabi) seasons in a semi-arid region of India to understand the crop-weather-environment-pest/diseases relations using wireless sensory and field-level surveillance data on closely related and interdependent pest/disease dynamics of groundnut crop. Association rule and multivariate regression mining techniques/algorithms were propose developed /tailor-made to turn the data into useful information/ knowledge/relations/trends to know crop-weather- environment-pest/disease continuum. These findings have been used for development of prediction models (cumulative and non-cumulative) followed by a web based pest/disease decision support system.

Abstract

Droughts are normal recurring climatic phenomena that vary in space, time, and intensity. The spatial and temporal variability and multiple impacts of droughts provide challenges for mapping and monitoring on regional scales. Large historical datasets are required in drought studies to understand the complex inter-relationship between the climatic and meteorological data. Extraction of valuable information from such large data archives demands an automated and efficient way. Data mining is answer to above problem as it has the potential to search for hidden pattern and identify the relationship between the datasets. For the current research, rainfall data from 1951-2006 was used to compute Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and NOAA-AVHRR NDVI images for the period 1981-2006 was used to calculate Vegetation Condition Index (VCI). SPI and VCI were used as input parameters in the Apriori Algorithm for generating the association rules. Interesting rules were developed identifying the relationship between user-specified target episodes and meteorological events. Therefore, spatial and temporal pattern of drought was achieved with 88% confidence.

ABSTRACT

The Remote Sensing data volume is vast, so high processing capacity is required. It is impossible to update spatial data without the support of high performance of RS image management, retrieval, and change detection and pattern discovery. After introducing some background information including significance of SDI updating, feasibility and advantages of satellite RS imagery used to update spatial data, the framework of updating spatial and attribute information based on RS image is proposed. In the process, the integrated processing of raster data and vector data is very important, so some functions of RS image processing and GIS software should be fused. In order to extract the anticipated images from vast image database, effective retrieval technique is vital. RS image data mining and knowledge discovery is the synergy of Spatial Data Mining (SDM) and Image Data Mining (IDM). Oriented to the demands of SDI updating to intelligent information processing, some primary issues on RSDM are analysed. It is pointed out that updating SDI by satellite RS imagery will be potential advantageous in the future. RS Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery are very important and will play important roles in the future.

Healthcare artificial intelligence depends on the quality, fairness and reliability of the data used for model development. This chapter examines the characteristics of healthcare data and explains how incomplete, inconsistent or unrepresentative datasets can produce inaccurate and discriminatory clinical outcomes. It identifies sampling, demographic, measurement, historical, institutional and annotation biases and discusses strategies for mitigating them at the data, algorithm and evaluation stages. It will meticulously detail the specific characteristics and sources of weather data, which serve as the primary atmospheric drivers. It will then explore the crucial properties and measurement techniques for soil data, underpinning the understanding of water and nutrient availability. The discussion will extend to crop genetic and physiological data, which define the inherent capabilities and responses of specific plant varieties. Furthermore, the chapter will cover management data, illustrating how human interventions are integrated into the modeling framework. Introduction

Hydrological data visualization plays a crucial role in analyzing and understanding the behavior and characteristics of water resources. By visualizing hydrological data, we can gain insight into the distribution, variability, and trends of different hydrological variables such as river flow, precipitation, groundwater levels, and water quality parameters. This information can help decision-making in areas such as water resources management, flood forecasting, and climate adaptation.

R Language is a popular and versatile tool for hydrological data visualization, offering several powerful packages for data analysis and visualization. Each of these packages has its own strengths and limitations, which can be leveraged depending on the specific needs of a given analysis. For example, ggplot2 is an extensively used package for creating publication-quality static plots that are customizable and visually appealing. This package is based on the grammar of graphics, which provides a new plotting system that combines the benefits of both base and lattice graphics. ggplot2 can be used to create a wide range of plot types, including time-series plots, spatial maps, and scatterplots. It provides several options for customizing plot elements such as axis labels, legends, and plot themes. On the other hand plotly offers interactive and dynamic plots that can be easily shared and embedded in web applications. With plotly, we can create plots that allow for zooming, panning, and hovering over data points to display additional information. This package is mainly useful for exploring relationships between hydrological variables. In addition to these packages, hydroTSM provides functions for reading, manipulating, and plotting time-series data. hydroTSM can help us create time-series plots of variables such as river f low, precipitation, and temperature, with options for adding trend lines error bars, and annotations.

Data visualization is the graphical representation of information and data. By using different visual elements like charts, graphs and maps. Data visualization tool provides easy way to see the understand the data and related trend/pattern.

1. There are multiple tools available for data visualization using which we can perform data visualization.

2. In python we can use a library called “matplot” for data visualization.

3. Python based plotting library “matplotlib” enables us to produce 2D as well as 3D graphics i.e. charts/graphs.

4. Pyplot interface of matplotlib is used for representing 2D graphs.

Introduction

Data input or capture is the operation of encoding the data and incorporating in the database. The creation of a clean error free digital database is a complex and critical task determining the very usefulness of a GIS. GIS data represent not only where the graphic or cartographic features occur, but also the associated attributes of them.

Data input to a geographical information system involves

(a) Entering the spatial data (digitizing);

(b) Entering the non-spatial, associated attributes and

(c) Linking the spatial to the non-spatial data.

At each stage necessary verification and checking procedures shall be deployed to ensure an error free database.

Introduction

Data are the most critical element of a GIS. It is reported that more than two thirds of the time and expenditure to develop a GIS is spent on data collection and organization. Understanding and appreciating the criticality of data is of paramount significance to practice GIS. This chapter is complementary to database concepts chapter discussed in Level II and deals with the fundamentals to start with and the concepts of building an information organization.

Data - A Definition and Certain Points to Ponder

“Data” are defined as a body of facts or figures, which have been gathered systematically for one or more specific purposes.”

Introduction

The concept of database is the approach to information organization in computer-based data processing. (Date, 1995 and Everest, 1986).

A Geographic Information System is as good as the data contained in it. Accurate and efficiently organized data are critical to the durability of the system. Data collection, capture and organization will occupy much of the time in building a GIS solution. The analysis potential of a GIS will depend on the database. It is essential to understand database concepts to practice GIS. It is erroneous to view these GIS databases as mere stores of information. The database is used to abstract very specific sorts of information about reality and organize it in a way that will prove useful during subsequent analysis. The database should be viewed as a representation or model of the world developed for a very specific application.

Conversion of real world geographical variation into discrete objects is done through data models. They represent the linkage between the real world domain of geographic data and computer representation of these features. Data models discussed here are for representing the spatial information.

4.1 INTRODUCTION

Database management system is a computer program to store, search, manipulate retrieve and give the result. Vast amount of spatial data are available and it is necessary to arrange them, store them for retrieval and analysis. Attribute data adds intelligent to GIS. Without database, a GIS will be just a Cad software. Cad softwares do not have database. GIS softwares have their own databases besides it has the potential to link with external database like Oracle, MS Access, MS Excel, Informix, INGRESS, Sybase and dbase. The data available in paper has to be digitally stored in a proper order. Previously the data were stored in a a flat file format where the data was stored without any structure. But to search and retrieve and analyse the database, database structures were developed. There are of 4 types of database structures namely Hierarchical, Network, Relational database and Object orientation.

Tables are made of rows and columns. Rows represent a map feature. Columns represents characteristic of map feature. Row is called a record or a tupule column is a field or an item. Table 4.1 is a table where rows 1, 2 and 3 represent the locations with the soil types. A column soil type represents various soil types.

Deep learning enables automated analysis of agricultural images for crop classification, disease detection, weed identification, yield prediction and soil monitoring. This chapter examines Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks and Vision Transformers applied to imagery collected by satellites, drones and ground-based sensors. These models automatically identify patterns and features that conventional methods may overlook. Integration with precision agriculture can improve decision-making, increase crop productivity and reduce resource waste. Challenges include shortages of annotated datasets, limited interpretability and high computational requirements. Transfer learning, data augmentation, edge computing and real-time processing are discussed as approaches for enabling practical deployment in remote and resource-constrained agricultural environments.

Deep learning emerged as a serious contender in the field from a 10-year explosive computational development. Deep learning is therefore a special form of machine learning, the algorithms of which are based on the structure and function of the human brain.

Machine learning VS Deep learning

Deep learning is arguably the most efficient form of machine learning. This is so important because they know the best way to solve the problem and how to fix everything. The following is a description of deep learning and machine Learning:

Ice cream defects can result from formulation imbalance, poor ingredient quality, processing deviations, inadequate freezing or hardening, packaging problems, storage conditions, and cold-chain failures. This chapter provides a systematic framework for understanding, classifying, diagnosing, and correcting defects affecting flavour, body, texture, melting, colour, appearance, packaging, and storage stability. It emphasizes that a visible defect in the finished product may originate much earlier in the production or distribution chain. Examples include iciness caused by slow freezing or temperature abuse, weak body associated with formulation or overrun, and flavour problems originating from raw materials or microbial activity. Defect analysis therefore becomes an important tool for troubleshooting, quality improvement, training, and preventive action.
