Agriculture is the most important sector in India in terms of the population dependent on it. Although agriculture now accounts for on 14 per cent of GDP, it is still main source of livelihood for the majority of the rural population. Rapid growth of agriculture is critical for development of rural economy and viable development of rural economy will leads to overall development of country. Diversification in agriculture is need of the hour, any cropping system comprising crops with varied maturity period, crop canopy and high yielding potential is need for an average farmer. Again cropping systems depending upon the soil type, total rainfall and arrival of monsoon in the region. Low cost technology is essential for reducing financial burden on farmers and to increase production on sustainable manner.

Introduction

It is considered to be one of the most ancient machine tools, having evolved from the early tree lathe, which was a new mechanism for turning and milling items held between two nearby trees at the time. The job rotated sporadically due to a rope wound around the work, with one end linked to a flexible limb of a tree and the other end being pulled by a worker. Then hand tools were employed.

The machine was given the name “lathe” when a strip of wood called “lath” was used to support the rope during its construction. This technology evolved over centuries, and in 1797, an Englishman named Henry Maudslay invented the first screw-cutting lathe, which is the ancestor of today’s high-speed, heavy-duty production lathe.

Grasspea (Lathyrus sativus L.), also called chickling pea, is an important crop of economic significance in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Ethiopia. It is also cultivated in China, many countries of Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa. It is a food, feed and fodder crop belonging to the family Leguminacaae and the tribe vicieae (Smartt, 1990).

Grasspea is very tolerant to drought conditions and has been grown successfully in areas with an average annual precipitation of 380 to 650 mm. Despite its tolerance to drought, grasspea is not affected by excessive rainfall and can be grown on land subject to flooding (Sinha, 1977). It has a very hardy and penetrating root system and, therefore, can be grown on a wide range of soil type, including very poor soil and heavy clays. This hardiness together with its ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen makes the crop ideally to grow under adverse conditions (Campbell et al. 1994). In India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan, it is often broadcast into a standing rice crop one to two weeks before the rice is ready for harvest where it flourishes on the residual soil moisture after the rice has been harvested.

Despite all the advantages compared to other crops, relatively little efforts have been made to improve this very hardy pulse crop. The main reason has been the knowledge that excessive consumption of grasspea can lead to a neurological disorder, called Lathyrism in man and domestic animals (Jackson and Yunus, 1984). It appears when Lathyrys sativus forms the main component of the diet contributing to at least 30% of the caloric intake for a period of 3 to 4 months (Campbell et al. 1994).

In this chapter, we explore Latin square design (LSD), a specialized form of experimental design renowned for its efficiency in controlling variation. This chapter thoroughly discovers the foundational principles, structure, and application of LSD in experimental research. It details mathematical models for LSD and guides readers through the interpretation of ANOVA tables. Furthermore, the chapter provides a systematic approach to conducting LSD analysis using R software.

Latin Square Design

The LSD is a statistical design used extensively in experiments, especially when specific conditions are met:

• Controlled variation in two directions: LSD is particularly suited for experiments where variation can be controlled along two different factors. This design structures the experimental units into a square matrix, allowing two sources of variability to be accounted for.

• Adherence to experimental design principles: Like other designs, LSD follows the key principles of randomization, replication, and local control. Randomization in LSD is applied within the rows and columns of the square matrix, ensuring unbiased treatment comparisons.

• Efficient use of resources: LSD allows for an effective utilization of resources by controlling two variables simultaneously. This makes it a more efficient design compared to RBD or CRD when there are two sources of nuisance variables.

In production one or a combination of the following relationship are commonly observed:

1. The law of constant marginal returns (productivity)

 2. The law of increasing marginal returns (productivity)

 3. The law of decreasing marginal returns (productivity)

Formation of a Rectangle

Experiments are usually laid out in square or rectangular plots for data and yield estimation, even though the field may be irregular. The plot is usually placed on the contour, parallel with a road, or in a north-and-south alignment. To mark a plot, construct a right angle and then form a rectangle or square.

4.1. Area approach

National Credit Council was set up in December, 1967

Study group in October, 1968 under chairmanship of Prof. D R Gadgil found that Commercial Banks had penetrated only 5000 villages as of June, 1967 and its share was 1% compared to co-operatives.

Recommended the adoption of an area approach for bridging the spatial and structural credit gaps.

All India Rural Credit Review Committee 1969 also endorsed the view the Commercial Banks should increasingly came forward to finance activities in rural areas.

RBI accepted recommendation and formulated Lead Bank Scheme (LBS) in December, 1969

Each district had been assigned to different banks (Public and private) to act as a consortium leader to coordinate branch expansion and credit planning.

Nationalization of 14 major Commercial Banks in July 1969 (Another 6 banks in 1980), paved the way for branch expansion network in unbanked rural and semi urban areas.

Leaf analysis and its importance

Improved fertilizer management for crops is important in view of today’s need to reduce production costs, conserve natural resources, and minimize possible negative environmental impacts. These goals can be achieved through optimum management of the fertilizer applied. Understanding the crop nutrient requirements and using soil testing to predict fertilizer needs are keys to fertilizer management efficiency.

Plant tissue testing is another tool for use in achieving a high degree of precision in fertilizer management. Timely tissue testing can help diagnose suspected nutrient problems or can simply assist in learning more about fertilizer management efficiency. Leaf analysis (also called stem leaf analysis, tissue analysis or foliar analysis) is the most precise method of monitoring plant nutrient levels. While soil analysis reveals the levels of essential soil nutrients, leaf analysis shows the grower exactly what the plant has successfully absorbed. Leaf analysis is especially helpful in detecting nutrient deficiencies before they affect plant health and yield.

Mizoram in North East India, is located between 21º58’ to 23º35’ N latitude and 92º15’ to 93º29’ E longitude, surrounded by Tripura, Assam and Manipur in North frontier regions; Bangladesh in west; and Mayanmar in east and south. The undulated topography of Mizoram, known as Lushai hills during British period, has varied altitudes ranging from 21 to 2157 m above mean sea level, annual rainfall of 2000-3200 mm, and mean monthly temperature of summer (monsoon) ranges from 14.6ºC to 29.6ºC. Besides having good rainfall; the vegetable production, including leaf vegetables, during winter period is limited by acute soil moisture stress caused by high rate of evapo-transpiration, almost no rain from November-March, non-availability of irrigation water and low water holding capacity of the sloppy land (Singh et al., 2011; Singh et al., 2013b).

It’s like creating a roadmap that outlines what you want to achieve, how you’ll achieve it, and what resources you’ll need. For farming-based livelihoods, this process needs to be particularly sensitive to the unique challenges and opportunities of the agricultural sector.
Here’s a step-by-step overview
1. Situation Analysis (Needs Assessment)
• Identify the Problem/Opportunity: What challenges are the target farmers facing? (e.g., low yields, lack of market access, climate change vulnerability, soil degradation, limited access to credit). Alternatively,
what opportunities exist? (e.g., growing demand for organic produce, new technologies, government subsidies).
• Target Group Identification: Who will benefit from the project? Be specific. (e.g., smallholder farmers in a particular region, women farmers, youth). Understand their current farming practices, income
levels, skills, and access to resources.
• Resource Assessment: What resources are available? (e.g., land, water, labor, existing infrastructure, local knowledge). Assess the quality and quantity of these resources.

As we have seen how artificial Intelligence can be useful in agriculture but the nest question always come in mind is that from where and how we can start to learn and what are the model of learning an artificial Intelligence. As Artificial Intelligence is a huge part of Computer Science which means we need an language as medium to perform it and we always prefer Python for that which is very dynamic and easy to learn. In this chapter we will learn about python basics so that in further implementation of artificial Intelligence it will be helpful to us.

I. Introduction

Python is a remarkable language that can claim to be easy and strong. You will be amazed to see how simple it is not to focus on the language you are programming, but on solving the problem. Guido van Rossum was the creator of the Python language which is named after the BBC show “Monty Python’s flying Circus”.

Python is formally introduced as:

“Python is an easy to learn, powerful programming language. It has efficient high-level data structures and a simple but effective approach to object-oriented programming. Python’s elegant syntax and dynamic typing, together with its interpreted nature, make it an ideal language for scripting and rapid application development in many areas on most platforms.”

10.1 Introduction

Least square theory is a statistical technique used to estimate the parameters involved in the regression model in such a way that the sum of squares of errors (residuals) is minimum (least). We have generally two methods of estimation of population parameters. These are (i) Ordinary least square (O.L.S.) method and (ii) Maximum likelihood (M.L.) method. The method of ordinary least square (O.L.S.) is used extensively in regression analysis primarily because it is intutively appealing and mathematically much simpler than the method of maximum likelihood estimation (M.L.E.). In the context of lineaer regression analysis, the two methods generally give similar results.

The National Food Security Bill 2011, which is now on the website of the Union Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs for public comments, aims to make the Right to Food a legal right. During the last seven years, the country has witnessed a transition from political patronage to legal entitlements in the case of education, information, work and land rights in tribal areas. When finally enacted, the Food Security Bill will be the brightest jewel in the crown of Indian democracy. Therefore, public scrutiny of the draft Bill is important. The draft Bill mentions that its aim is “to provide for food and nutritional security in human life-cycle approach by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices, for people to live a life with dignity”. Unfortunately the Bill is its present form will not be able to fulfill this inspiring objective.

The legal commitment contained in the Bill implies that every child, woman and man should have physical and economic access to balanced diet on the basis of a life-cycle approach, i.e., from conception to cremation. Nutrition security involves access not only to the needed calories and protein, but also to micro-nutrients like iron, iodine, zinc, vitamin A, and vitamin B12. In addition, clean drinking water, sanitation and primary health care are essential for ensuring that food is properly assimilated in the body.

4.1. Introduction

Presently, in the world, there are 195 countries according to the United Nations, and the number would even go up to 247 if we consider the disputed territories like Isle of Man, Hong Kong, etc. (United Nations, 2016) (Kershner, 2020). But the majority of the countries are still struggling to provide basic life-supporting amenities like nutrition, shelter, and employment. Conjointly, termed as emerging and developing countries such as India, Vietnam, Venezuela, Utopia, etc. (Ahmed and Shimada, 2019). Most of the developing countries are situated mainly in the continent of Africa, Asia and South America. They have got independence for the European countries like England, France, Portugal and Spain in the mid and late 20th century. 

Food security, nutritional security, sustainability and profitability are the main foci ofpresent agricultural scenario in India. In the absence of additional land for bringing under plough vertical growth in agriculture through intensive cropping and enhanced productivity becomes inevitable. Intensification of agriculture to meet the growing needs of the burgeoning population has brought with it numerous productivity related constraints. It has triggered multiple nutrient deficiencies in soil and this has raised doubts on the soils capacity to sustain anticipated production levels. One of the key inputs in enhancing and maintaining the productivity ofintensified agricultural systems is chemical fertilizer which provides nutrients in readily available form. But long term experiments on various cropping systems at various agroecological regions and soil types revealed that continuous use of chemical fertilizers in unbalanced and indiscriminate manner deteriorates the soil health and leads to deleterious effect on long term soil fertility and yield sustainability. Apart from the soil productivity issue, the use of chemical fertilizer is also becoming more and more costly due to scarcity during peak demand. The excessive use of chemical fertilizers is not only costly but they pollute the production environment (Singh et al., 2005; Dwivedi et al., 2003).

In the coming decades, a major issue in designing sustainable agriculture system will be the management and rational use of organic inputs such as animal manure, green manure, crop residues and biofertilizers etc. (Powlson, 1994). Long term studies indicated that current fertilizer recommendations are inadequate for maintaining yields (Bhandari et al., 2000; Singh and Mishra, 2010; Tiwari et al., 2006). It is, therefore, to sustain high crop yield without deterioration of soil fertility it is important to apply required amount of plant nutrients through fertilizers in combination with organic sources, crop residues, biofertilizers etc.

The agricultural scenario is akin to orchestrating a symphony, where legumes play a vital role, contributing melodies of resilience and significance. Unveiling this leguminous symphony in India is an exploration into the intricate interplay of obstacles and potential triumphs within the agricultural sector. As we delve into an overview of legumes, commonly known as pulse crops, their significance in Indian agriculture becomes apparent. Belonging to the Fabaceae family, these plants possess a distinctive feature - the ability to harness nitrogen from the atmosphere. This unique characteristic renders them pivotal components in sustainable agricultural systems, impacting not only food and nutritional security but also influencing the broader scope of soil fertility enhancement and economic prosperity. The journey through legume cultivation in India unfolds as a harmonious narrative, weaving together the challenges faced and the promising prospects that lie ahead in this agricultural symphony (Sow and Ranjan, 2021).

Among thirty major cropping systems in the country, which contribute significantly to the national food basket, the majority are cereal-based. In fact, continuous cropping of cereal-based systems during last three decades has resulted in second generation problems and the sustainability of these systems is under threat. The major challenge is to produce more from each unit of land on the one hand and to sustain soil health on the other. The depletion of soil fertility by the intensive cereal-cereal production systems is considered to be a major cause of the yield decline. For example, a rice-wheat cropping system (RWCS) yielding 7 t/ha of paddy and 4 t/ha of wheat removes 315 kg nitrogen (N)/ ha, 28 kg phosphorus (P)/ ha and 333 kg potassium (K)/ ha, and significant amounts of micro-nutrients (Hegde and Dwivedi, 1992). These off-takes often exceed fertiliser input in many Indian states. Refinement of nutrient management strategies would help maintain the crop productivity and soil fertility, but other rotational strategies could also help especially in situations where greater fertiliser use may be uneconomic or environmentally unacceptable. Legume crops fix atmospheric N and enrich soil fertility, and could help to sustain the long-term productivity of cereal-based cropping systems. Depending on the soil and ecological stresses, a cropping system can be diversified using legumes under different mode. Results from the All-India Coordinated Project on Integrated Farming Systems (AICRP-IFS) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research show consistently better productivity with inclusion of legumes in cropping systems. The benefits of legumes in rotation are not solely due to biological nitrogen fixation but also because it increased nutrient availability, improved soil structure, reduced disease incidence and increased mycorhyizal colonization (Wani et al., 1995). Inclusion of pulses as intercrops in sequential as well as intercropping systems would not only make the country self reliant but also help in improving the soil health. Series of experiments are being conducted under (AICRP-IFS) and elsewhere in the country to identify need based cropping systems for different agro-climatic zones of India. The pre-dominent cropping systems involving legumes as a strategy for nutrient management through different approaches are being discussed here for ready reference of researchers, planners and extension workers.

Soil-rejuvenation power of legumes in crop rotations has been known in several parts of the world since ages. It is mentioned in the Indian agriculture of the Chalcolithic period (ca 1000 BC) (Raychaudhuri and Mira, 1993), in Chinese agriculture in the Han dynasty (ca 2nd century) (Hsu, 1980) and in Roman agriculture (White, 1970). Legumes can be ?tted in cropping systems in India in a number of ways, such as, a crop in a cropping system, a catch crop in an intensive cropping system, an intercrop and as a green manure. A brief discussion on these follows.

Enhancement of population is a global issue and the expected world population will be 9.7 billion in 2050 (UN, 2019). Under the situation, achievement of food and nutritional security is a major target with reduction of GHGs to the atmosphere and mitigation of ill effects of climate change. Modern agriculture is responsible for emission of GHGs in many ways and one of them is production of synthetic N fertilizer. There is no doubt about the fact that chemical N fertilizers enhance crop yield but it is at the cost of atmospheric equilibrium and agricultural sustainability cannot be achieved by this practice (Bedoussac et al. 2015; Layek et al., 2018).

Low External Input Agriculture (LEIA)

It is a form of agriculture wherein the use of external inputs including chemical inputs is minimized and production is kept sustainable. It uses synthetic fertilizers or chemical pesticides below rates commonly recommended by the Extension workers. There is no elimination of these materials. Any system that reduces purchased chemical inputs can be called low-input farming. Yields are maintained through greater emphasis on crop rotation, crop residues, animal manures, biofertilizers, IPM, IWM and utilization of on-farm resources and management. Locally available resources are used by maximizing the complementary and synergistic effects of different components of the farming systems. There is use of external inputs in a complementary way. Main advantages of this type of agriculture are:

Youth are the creative force potential and a strength symbol for every community. One of the hallmarks of the positive youth development movement is that it is built on a foundation of scientific research. In addition, youth development programs typically work through existing social organizations rather than focusing on individual counseling. The rural youth work of FAO over the years has made significant contributions to make the lives of young people from rural areas more productive and meaningful by strengthening the organizations which serve them. The needs and challenges of rural young people today are greater than they have ever been in the past. In most developing countries, youth make up well over one-half of the total rural population. Because of their number and potential impact, rural youth must be a major part of any equation dealing with immediate and long-term solutions to solving problems of food security and sustainable development. Rural youth living in rural areas get limited opportunities for educational attainment in village areas. Opportunities for vocational guidance are also limited causing them diverting towards non creative activities and for merely wastage of time. An investigation was undertaken to study the socio-economic characteristics  and leisure time activities of rural youth. The study was conducted in College Development Block comprising Hatkanangle, Radhanagari & Bhudargad Tahsils of Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. From the Tahsil, 10 villages were selected randomly.  From each village, nine rural youths were selected randomly. Thus in all 90 rural youth were finally selected for the study. 

The efforts to keep pace with the fast life are causing mental and physical tensions. Diversion and relaxation is needed for the revival of spirit and enthusiasm. Leisure is an unimposed free time, after the practical necessities of life have been attended to. It is the time spent in activities chosen by the individual rewarding for its own sake. Choice of leisure time activities may also depend on the regularity of free time. An activity performed during small amounts of free time may be different than the one planned for a large block of free time. The leisure activities have far reaching influence on the personality development of the youth. If these youngsters are trained to make use of their leisure time for productive purpose, their endless energies could be channelised into fruitful development work.

An investigation was carried out involving 120 rural youth from Kapasi and Mardasgaon villages in Gangakhed taluka of Parbhani district from marathwada region of Maharashtra state, to asses the leisure time utilization by rural youth.  The sample included 70 boys and 50 girls.

Profile of Rural Youth

Education : As regards the education of female youth is concerned, 30 percent of them were educated up to H.S.C. and S.S.C, level where as 20 percent of them were educated up to high school level and 10 percent of them were degree holders and educated up to middle school level.

Youth, as a concept, has been generally defined all over the world as a group of human beings who have reached the end of puberty but have not yet acquired the full rights and duties of adult life ( Friedman: 1971).  Undeniably, the youth constitute a vast reservoir of energy especially in underdeveloped countries including India. Out of the 120 crores population of India, those in the 15 to 30 age group constitute 50 per cent which means that 60 crore young people, men and women, are available for handling various tasks of development, local, regional and national.  Progress of the country depends on the participation and full involvement of all sections of people especially youth. Youth can make their constructive contribution to national development and through which society can benefit from the idealism and sense of dedication of youth. At the same time, they also benefit from their active participation in developmental activities. Since such participation increases their self esteem, give them a sense of identity and of being needed by society.  The human life passes through various stage such as infancy, childhood, adolescence, youth, adult and old. Out of these stages the youth stage is very crucial and dynamic in the life of an individual as from this stage individual starts assuming responsibilities in the life and learns practically the social rules by coming in contact with world outside the family.  Youth is the time of life marked by growth and development. It is the period between childhood and maturity. United Nation has defined youth as those young people within the age group of 15 to 24 years both inclusive. Youth symbolizes zest, idealism, dynamism, enthusiasm and energy.

Lentil is one of the oldest nutritious rabi pulse crop. The whole or splitted seeds are used in preparing dal and delicious namkin commonly called dalmoth. The splitted seeds are also used in making soup and porridge. Green pods are used as vegetables. The leaves and stalks are used as cattle feed.

Lentil is one of the most nutritious cool season food legume and ranks next only to chickpea. It is grown throughout the northern and central India for grains, which are used as dal (wholeor dehulled) andin various otherculinarypreparations. Lentil contains about 25% protein, 0.7% fat, 2.1% mineral, 0.7% fibre and 59% carbohydrate. It is a rich source of phosphorus and carotene. It is generally grown as rainfed crop during rabi season after rice, maize, pearl millet orkharif fallow. It is also grown as intercrop with barley, linseed, mustard and autumn planted sugarcane. In North-eastern parts of the country, lentil is also cultivated as paira crop with rice in which seeds of lentil are broadcast in the standing crop of rice 7-10 days before its harvest. It is grown on a wide range of soils from light loamysand to heavy clay soil in northern parts and moderately deep black soils in central India.

There can be no scientific studies which do not involve the process of measuring. Measurement process is the integral part of research activity. Measurement can be defined as the assignment of numerals to the objects or events according to set of rules.  The emphasis in this definition is on phrase ‘set of rules’. If the rules can be set up based on some rational or empirical basis, then theoretically anything can be measured. It is very much easy to understand the concept of measurement in case of physical sciences (Example weight, length, mass etc.) but it is harder understand the concept of measurement in case of psychological objects/phenomenon (intelligence, aggressiveness, attitude etc.) without understanding the predetermined rules of measurement. A rule is a guide, command that tells you what to do/how to do.

As it is well understood, food and drinking water are the first among the hierarchical needs of a human being. Growing population, expanding ecological footprint, diminishing per capita land and water availability, increasing biotic and abiotic stresses, and, above all, the prospects for adverse changes in temperature, precipitation and sea level as a result of climate change, emphasise the need for keeping issues relating to agriculture high on the professional, political and public agenda. The multiple roles of agriculture in food production, improving nutrition and health, and climate change mitigation are now well recognised scientifically, but are yet be integrated into coherent national policies and strategies. Opportunities for generating synergy among agriculture, nutrition and health are great and this conference is therefore a timely one.

Role-play is a product of ‘play’, ‘games’ and ‘simulation’ (Gabrielle McSharry, 2000). In science education, role-play may be seen as an interaction between these three components – either in combination or by themselves – and students who perform such activities results in learning outcome. In the context of social studies, role-play is used to learn the issues and decisions of the past and how things might have been different in local community in a broader setting. Aside from knowledge acquisition, preparing and conducting a role-play activity strengthens students’ knowledge, acquisition skills, their creativity, their values clarification skills and a variety of interpersonal skills identified in the curriculum outcomes. As an effective instructional teaching strategy, role-playing emphasizes the social nature of learning and sees cooperative behaviour as stimulating students both socially and intellectually.

Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field that mainly focuses on creating intelligent technologies that can easily perform tasks requiring human intelligence. One subfield is machine learning (ML), which enables machines to learn from data without being explicitly programmed. There are two main types of ML: supervised and unsupervised learning. Supervised learning trains machines on labeled data to predict output, while unsupervised learning trains machines on unlabeled data to find patterns. ML includes techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, and deep learning. ML has the potential to revolutionize many fields but also raises ethical, social, and legal issues. Developing trustworthy, responsible, and ethical ML systems is crucial. The MuCulloch and Pitts Model, proposed by Warren MuCulloch and Walter Pitts in 1943, is the first formal model of ML techniques. It is also known as the linear threshold gate (Fig. 1).

9.1 General

This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of biochar production, focusing on the environmental impacts of its production and utilization. LCA is a systematic approach used to evaluate the environmental burdens and benefits of a product or process throughout its entire life cycle. Biochar, a carbon-rich material derived from the pyrolysis or gasification of biomass such as agricultural crop residue, forest waste, unusual wood waste, etc., has gained significant attention as a potential sustainable solid waste management, carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas mitigation, and soil amendment solution. However, understanding the environmental implications of biochar production is crucial for its sustainable implementation. The LCA approach is employed to evaluate biochar production’s different system boundaries and environmental performance, encompassing various stages such as biomass feedstock cultivation, the biochar production process, transportation, application, and end-of-life scenarios. This chapter explores the key elements of LCA, examines the methodologies employed in biochar LCA studies, and critically analyzes the environmental impacts associated with different biochar production pathways.

General Introduction 
Growing populations and industrialisation around the world are driving up energy demand, which increases reliance on fossil fuels. The World Energy Forum projects that global stocks of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, and oil will run out in less than ten years and decades [1]. Fossil fuels account for 88.1% of total energy consumption; they include coal (43%), oil and other liquids (23%), waste (6%), natural gas (6%), and biomass (24%). Hydroelectricity, and nuclear energy, on the other hand, share relatively small percentages of energy (1% and 2%, respectively) [2]. Petro-diesel, also known as petroleum diesel, is currently utilized as a fossil fuel and is created when crude oil is fractionally distilled at temperatures between 250°C and 350°C under atmospheric pressure. Once heated to a certain degree, the different types of diesel fuel are formed via the vaporization of hydrocarbon chains and the isolation and blending of constituents in a prescribed ratio. Typically, 25% of the petrodiesel’s composition consists of aromatic hydrocarbons and 75% of saturated hydrocarbons. The combustion of diesel fuel releases sulfur, nitrogen, and particulate matter into the environment, which are all present in significant concentrations in petro-diesel. Moreover, burning fossil fuels has resulted in several environmental problems, such as greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), which have a major impact on global warming, climate change, and a host of other chronic illnesses [3]. India is ranked as the fourth-biggest importer and user of petroleum products and crude oil. With demand for oil reaching about 4.1 million gallons per day in 2015, there is a growing disparity between India’s oil supplies and supply. The IEA analysis predicts that beyond 2050, there won’t be any oil reserves and that India’s oil consumption will increase by 6.0 million barrels per day to 9.8 mg/d in 2040 [4]. The idea promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle that focuses on ‘mindful and deliberate utilisation’ instead of ‘mindless and wasteful consumption’.(PIB India)

The LiFE Movement aims to utilise the power of collective action and nudge individuals across the world to undertake simple climate-friendly actions in their daily lives. The LiFE movement, additionally, also seeks to leverage the strength of social networks to influence social norms surrounding climate. The Mission plans to create and nurture a global network of individuals, namely ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3), who will have a shared commitment to adopt and promote environmentally friendly lifestyles. Through the P3 community, the Mission seeks to create an ecosystem that will reinforce and enable environmentally friendly behaviours to be self-sustainable.

Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye. It is a crucial aspect of our daily lives, and its importance extends beyond just visibility (Fig. 5.1). Light plays a vital role in various fields, including agriculture, energy, health, and more.
5.1. Properties of Light
• Wavelength: Light consists of different wavelengths, which determine its color. The visible spectrum of light includes colors ranging from approximately 380 nanometers (violet) to 780 nanometers (red).
• Intensity: Light intensity affects its brightness and energy. Higher intensity light is more energetic and can have a greater impact on various processes.
• Direction: Light travels in straight lines and can be directed or focused. This property is essential for applications like lasers, optics, and solar concentrators.

Introduction 
A major challenge facing the world today is making the transition to a sustainable and resource-efficient economy, especially considering climate change, resource depletion, and rising waste production. The idea of a circular economy has drawn a lot of attention in this setting. In contrast to the conventional linear economic paradigm of “take-make-dispose,” the circular economy prioritizes closed-loop solutions that reduce waste and environmental impact by reusing, recycling, and regenerating resources. The efficient use of biomass as a plentiful and renewable resource to produce biofuels, biochemicals, and bio-based products is a crucial part of this circular framework. The combination of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, known as lignocellulosic biomass, is one of the most widely available and sustainable types of feedstocks for biomass. Originating from forestry byproducts, specific energy crops, and agricultural residues like corn stover and wheat straw, lignocellulosic biomass is a feasible substitute for raw materials derived from fossil fuels [1]. By minimizing reliance on non-renewable resources and supporting sustainable waste management, its conversion through biorefineries into a wide range of bio-based goods is fully in line with the concepts of the circular economy [2]. Integrated systems known as lignocellulosic biorefineries maximize resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact by converting all the components of biomass into marketable products. The production of biofuels (such as bioethanol and biodiesel), platform chemicals, bioplastics, and energy by these biorefineries greatly aids in the creation of renewable energy and sustainable industrial processes [3]. Biorefineries can maximize the utilization of biomass feedstocks by converting them into high-value products while upholding zero-waste principles by utilizing a variety of biochemical and thermochemical conversion processes [4]. A summation of the function of lignocellulosic biorefineries in promoting the circular economy is given in this chapter. The first section covers the current developments in pretreatment and conversion methods as well as the composition of lignocellulosic biomass. By incorporating these technologies into biorefinery systems, waste valorization and energy efficiency issues can be resolved, and biobased goods can be produced more effectively. This chapter also examines the prospects and problems faced by lignocellulosic biorefineries, looking at their technological, economic, and regulatory elements as well as how they might help with the worldwide transition to a circular bioeconomy.

1. Introduction
Increasing population, industrialization, and change in the human lifestyle have become the reason for the exhaustion of non-renewable energy sources, our prime energy resource. The combustion of non-renewable energy sources produces toxic pollutants such as CO2, CO, NOx, SO2, etc., and greenhouse gases CH4, CO2, and N2O which significantly contribute to global warming, environmental pollution, and health hazards. In the current scenario, we need a green energy source that does not generate toxic gases and is eco-friendly. Hence, the research is triggered towards finding alternative solutions to overcome the energy crisis. The various green energy sources are solar, wind, tidal, geothermal, hydropower, biomass, hydrogen fuel cells, etc. The major drawback of these sources is the geographical location to install the plants. In the present context, identifying an alternate energy source that is sustainable, renewable, and eco-friendly to overcome the ever-growing energy demands is crucial. Hence, bioenergy is an eco-friendly, economical, and sustainable source of energy that gratifies the contemporary development environment by utilizing the potential of renewable organic energy resources (Yin and Wang et al., 2022).
2. Biomass
The sources of biomass are agro wastes, wood wastes, aquatic wastes, municipal wastes, wet wastes, industrial wastes, forest residues, etc. Figure 1.1 illustrates various sources of biomass, such as agricultural leftovers, forestry waste, energy crops, and organic municipal waste, showcasing their potential as renewable energy resources. Biomass is the product of photosynthesis and is also a versatile renewable energy source that can be utilized for sustainable biohydrogen generation. Biomass absorbs atmospheric CO2 during its growth, leading to relatively a lower net carbon impact as compared to fossil fuels. Renewable organic resources (biomass) can be in a solid, liquid, or gaseous phase. Energy generation through the incineration of biomass has been a longstanding practice. Since the energy potential of the biomass is not extracted effectively, it leads to environmental pollution (Kumar and Fiori et al., 2024). Biomass can be converted to liquid and gaseous fuels called biofuels with significant calorific value through thermochemical and biochemical processes (Gautam et al., 2020). Biofuels are superior to fossil fuels in the context of sustainability and reduced emissions of greenhouse gases. A variety of biofuels and chemicals such as bio-ethanol, biodiesel, acetic acid, formaldehyde, etc., can be manufactured from biomass (Gautam et al., 2020). Globally, research is advancing towards replacing non-renewable fuels with biofuels. However, the transition to biofuel technique presents a challenge due to the huge space requirement for biomass. Table 1.1 illustrates the categories of biomass employed for hydrogen generation, categorized into lignocellulosic materials, algal biomass, organic waste, and energy crops.

Despite the meticulous methodology and extensive analysis employed throughout this research project, it is crucial to acknowledge and address the limitations that arose during the study. By recognizing these limitations, we not only ensure a transparent evaluation of the research process but also shed light on potential areas for future investigations to refine and expand upon the findings.

In this section of the chapter, the limitations encountered in this thesis are highlighted as follows:

1. Due to the complexity of the concept, obtaining quantitative responses proved to be exceedingly challenging.

2. The development of improved scales for scoring could have enhanced the research if implemented.

3. The inclusion of a greater number of relevant variables could have provided a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the research topic.

4. Deploying mathematical optimization and simulations could have effectively integrated and co-integrated the seemingly disparate aspects of climate change perception, uncertainty perception, and perception of agricultural dynamics.

5. Presently, farmers are hesitant to engage in conversations and provide data to individuals outside their close social circles.

8.1. Limitations

The most important limitations which have been observed in this research are as follows:

1. Bench marking on the status of reigning uncertainty and chaos on farming’has really been a difficult task.
2. There are problems of overlapping of some variables that could have been avoided.
3. Some new scales could have been better if created.
4. Since the concept is complex, it was very difficult to get qualitative response.
5. Farmers nowadays are reluctant to engage in conversation and produce data.
6. Due to non-random sampling , there is possibility of error or biases.

8.1 Limitations

1. The research was limited to a specific geographic area.

2. The study was constrained by limitations in time and reSources.

3. The study relies on the subjective opinions of the participants, which may be influenced by their individual perspectives and biases, despite the researcher’s efforts to gather them as objectively as possible.

4. It would have been advantageous to include a broader range of relevant variables in the study.

5. A suitable statistical model could have been employed to provide thematic support for the behavior and functioning of the system.

6. The selection of variables could have been expanded by incorporating additional variables that would have demonstrated resilience in domain interactions.

24.1 Introduction

Linear programming is a budgeting technique which is more refined and systematic than conventional budgeting in determining the optimum combination of enterprises or inputs so as to maximise the income or combination of enterprises or the income or minimise costs within the limits of available resources. It may be defined as “The analysis of the problem in which a linear function of a number of variables is to be maximised or minimised when these variables are subject to a number of restraints in the form of linear inequalities”, In linear programming models, the objective of the typical farm i.e maximisation of net profit or cost minimisation is achieved through an optimal plan generated from its solution.

Operational agricultural meteorology is a critical field that applies meteorological knowledge and tools to support agricultural decision-making, enhance crop yields, and mitigate the impacts of weather and climate variability on agricultural systems. Effective collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders are essential for the successful application of agricultural meteorology (Fig. 12.1).
This chapter explores the linkages between key players in operational agricultural meteorology, including national meteorological services, research organizations, development departments dealing with agriculture and allied sectors, agricultural universities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Importance of Collaboration in Agricultural Meteorology
The integration of meteorological information into agricultural practices requires a multidisciplinary approach. By working together, stakeholders can ensure that weather and climate data are accurately interpreted and applied to support farmers, policymakers, and other decision-makers. Collaboration can lead to improved agricultural productivity, reduced risks associated with weather extremes, and more sustainable agricultural practices.
12.1. Key Stakeholders and Their Roles
• National Meteorological Services (NMS): Provide weather and climate data, forecasts, and warnings that are critical for agricultural planning and management.

One, that rural women are not only the warriors, creative actors in the agricultural scene, or rural areas, but also the urban poor, the  migrants , the homeless, the source of labour supply into the expanding urban spaces, including trafficking.
 
I would then argue [two] that this spread of the location of “rural women” is the phenomena that we should now look at, the connectivity between the old divisions of rural and urban, as it indicates the pressures that the current development paradigms operating in our countries, is putting on the RURAL … and therefore that we should look at the macroeconomic policies that are in place, globally and regionally and  nationally.

9.1 Introduction

Biomass conversion is a transformative process that harnesses the energy and chemical potential of organic materials derived from living organisms. It encompasses various methods of converting biomass, including agricultural residues, forestry by-products, algae, and even waste materials, into valuable products such as biofuels, chemicals, and energy. This process is a cornerstone of sustainable resource utilization and plays a critical role in addressing environmental concerns, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and promoting a circular economy. Biomass conversion methods range from biochemical processes like fermentation and anaerobic digestion to thermochemical processes such as combustion, pyrolysis, gasification, and liquefaction. Each method employs distinct conditions, catalysts, and technologies to break down complex biomass structures and convert them into desired products.

14.1 Introduction

The green revolution brought amazing consequences in food grain production but with insufficient concern for agricultural sustainability. The availability and affordability of fossil fuel based chemical fertilizers at farm level in India have been ensured only through imports and subsidies which are largely dependent on GDP of the country. Dependence on chemicals for future agricultural needs would result in further loss in soil health, possibilities of water contamination and calculated burden on the fiscal system. Indiscriminate synthetic fertilizer usage has polluted the soil, water basins, destroyed micro-organisms and eco-friendly insects, made the crop more susceptible to diseases and depleted soil fertility at the primary levels as of today (Pindi, 2012). India is an agricultural based country.

The earlier products of bio-fertilizers were carrier (solid) based where lignite is usually added as a carrier material. Lignite is hazardous to the production workers. Also, the shelf life of carrier based bio-fertilizers is only 6 months and is difficult to transport. Liquid Biofertilizers (LBFs) on the other hand have a shelf life of minimum one year, with no health hazards to production workers and are easy to transport. Additionally, LBF can be used in drip irrigation and as a component of organic farming. The liquid Bio fertilizers are suspensions having agriculturally useful microorganisms, which fix atmospheric nitrogen and solubilize insoluble phosphates and make it available for the plants. The use of this biofertilizer is environment friendly and gives uniform results for most of the agricultural crops and directly reduces the use of chemical fertilizer by 15 to 40%. The shelf life of the liquid bio fertilizer is higher (in the range of one to two years) compared to that of solid matrix base biofertilizer.

3.1 Definition

Liquid biofertilizers are liquid formulation containing the dormant form of desired microorganisms and their nutrients along with the substances that encourage formation of resting spores or cysts for longer shelf life and tolerance to adverse conditions. The dormant form on reaching the soil, germinate to produce fresh batch of active cells. These cells grow and multiply by utilizing the carbon source in the soil or from root exudates.

“A preparation comprising requirements to preserve organisms and deliver them to the target regions to improve their biological activity” or “A consortium of micro-organisms provided with suitable medium to keep up their viability for certain period which aids in enhancing the biological activity of the target site”.

Decomposition of litter is a dynamic process. It regulates cycling of nutrients in ecosystem. The productivity of an ecosystem depends on the turnover of carbon and other nutrients. Microbes play an important role in releasing of minerals locked up in organic complexes. The release of nutrients, however, is regulated by various climatic factors. The microbial succession at different stages of degradation of litter is controlled by the litter quality and species composition and biological activity. The present paper reviews the status of litter production, decomposition, species diversity and Biological activities as affected by the climatic and edaphic factors in tropical ecosystem.

1. Introduction Millet is a heterogeneous group of small-seeded cereal crops classified based on their morphology as major millet and minor millet. Little millet (Panicum sumatrense) are small millets generally categorized as minor millet cereal crops. It is a self-pollinated crop that belongs to the family Poaceae and subfamily Panicoideae with a chromosome number of 2n=36 (Nandini and Bhat, 2019). It is a traditional cereal grain crop widely produced in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Western Myanmar. Little millet is widely cultivated in the tribal belt of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu in India for food and feed (Ganapathy, 2017). Indigenously, it is commonly known as samai (Tamil), kutki (Hindi), savior same (Kannada), chama (Malayalam) (Table 1).
