Research setting refers to the detail information of an area where the study has been conducted. The study area, generally comprises of a particular geographical area viz. a state, district, block, or gram panchayat area selected according to the convenience of the investigator who possesses adequate knowledge regarding the location, communication facility etc. of the locality so that he/she can easily approach each and every corner of the area for data collection. Here. in this study the data collection was done mostly over telephone based on the interview schedule due to Covid-19 pandemic situation. Concept of Education

The word “educare” means to train, nourish, or shape. “Educere” means “to lead froth, to pull out.” The Latin term “Educatum” refers to the act of teaching. “Shiksha” and “Vidya” are two significant Sanskrit words that stand out as equivalents of English education. Shiksha is a word derived from “Shah,” which means “to control or discipline.” The term “Vidhya” is derived from the word “Vidh,” which means “knowledge.” During the ancient schooling period, the most essential aspects of human personality were discipline and knowledge.

Personality, a term deeply ingrained in our everyday discourse, encapsulates the essence of what makes individuals unique. This multifaceted construct has intrigued scholars, philosophers, and psychologists alike throughout history. Women empowerment is a stage of acquiring power for women in order to understand right and to perform her responsibilities towards oneself and others in effective way.

Women's empowerment is a process in which women gain greater share of control over resources- material, human and intellectual [knowledge, information, ideas] and financial resources and control over decision-making in the home, community, society, nation and to gain `power'. According to the Country Report of Government of India, "Empowerment means moving from a position of enforced powerlessness to one of power". 1. Introduction

Poultry industry in India stands out as a major success story. It’s phenomenal that India’s poultry production whichstarted justas a backyard venture before 1960s, has shaped up into a proven agribusiness, where its annual turnover exceeds Rs 30,000 crores. Current global ranking of India is that of number three, in terms of egg production (behind China [1st] and USA [2nd]), and of18th position in Broiler production. Today, Poultry is one of the fastest growing industries of the agricultural sector in India at present. The annual growth of broilers and egg production is 8-10% compared to 1-2% for production of agricultural crops [3].

Poultry production forms an important Agrarian Avenue providing valuable animal proteins for the fast-growing human population of the developing India, with promises of additional income to small and marginal farmers.Rural and backyard poultry farming is very common among landless and marginal farmer families in India and is a rewarding source of additional income. It involves low investment with high returns which can be easily operated by women, children and elder members of the farm families. Poor households generate good income through backyard poultry farming which provides meat and egg rich in protein and energy. Agriculture including animal husbandry provides 30-40% employment in terms of man/woman days in a year. Scarcity of land holdings, land fragmentation and seasonal agriculture aresome of the reasons that crop production only is unable to provide cent percent employment to the rural youths (men and women).

Women Folk: A Precious Resource

India’s ancient history ascribes a divine status to women. Laxmi, Durga and Saraswati are the three great goddesses of Prosperity, Power and Wisdom respectively. The ancient scriptures declared that ‘God lives where women are worshipped’. However, a multitude of derogatory attributes have been ascribed to women in the post-vedic period. According to Manu, “a woman must never be independent. In childhood, she must be subject to her father, in youth to her husband, and when her lord is dead, to her sons”. The passive role of women, unfortunately thus visualized, later guided the future course of action leading to their present status of backwardness in general and neglect in the streams of development and scientific arena in particular.

The term ‘gender’ was first used by Ann Oakley and others in 1970s to describe the characteristics of men and women which are socially determined in contrast to biological differences. The term ‘gender’ further explains, a neutral term meaning either men or women or both in a particular context. The goal is to improve the status of disadvantaged class and get rid of socially created and approved discriminations. The green revolution in India changed the face of agriculture but apparently it contributed to two general trends (FAO, 1996) where wealthy have benefited more from technological change in agriculture than the less well off andsecondly men have benefited more than women.

Generally students made the mistake of not mentioning proper referencing at the end of their research projects, essays or any other piece of work. This may lead to cancellation of the written matter. If we do not reference properly the written matter is treated as if it is copied from somewhere. The research paper or material cannot be submitted for further research or reading purpose. India faces a shortfall of 10 million tonnes in vegetable production against a demand of 135 million tonnes, exacerbated by extreme temperatures (5-48°C) that hinder year-round cultivation. Furthermore, the chapter will examine the regional oceanic influence of the Indian Ocean Dipole and how the temperature differences between the western and eastern parts of the Indian Ocean can significantly modulate the strength and distribution of rainfall during the Indian monsoon and in neighboring regions. Through a series of regional case studies, this chapter will illuminate the diverse ways in which local geography, land surface characteristics, and regional atmospheric and oceanic circulations act as critical modifiers of global monsoon patterns. This detailed exploration underscores the necessity of understanding these regional nuances for accurate forecasting, effective water resource management, and the development of tailored strategies to cope with the inherent variability of monsoons in different parts of our planet.

Introduction
Understanding the concepts of technology transfer, licensing, and commercialization is crucial as it plays an important role in understanding how scientific discoveries leads to generation of new technologies further making them the impactful solutions that benefit industries and society. In the context of Indian HEIs, this especially important because a large volume of impactful research often remains underutilized due to limited commercialization channels. This chapter explains the terminology, essential components of technology transfer, outlines its significance for the innovation ecosystem. It also outlines the evolution of India’s technology transfer ecosystem, and emphasizes while understanding its potential to boost India’s economy, encourage entrepreneurship, and strengthen global competitiveness. From initial idea to a market-ready product is complex and multiphased process. The stepwise process is shown in Figure 1. It highlights a structured pathway consisting of five core phases: Idea/Concept, Technology development, Intellectual Property (IP) rights, Technology transfer, and Technology commercialisation.
Phase 1: Idea/Concept stage
This process of technology transfer starts with the Idea/Concept phase, where an invention is created. Each phase plays an important role in transforming raw scientific knowledge into innovative solutions that benefit society and generate economic value. In this phase breakthrough ideas emerge, within labs. Researchers explore and develop initial proof-of-concept or prototypes to validate their ideas. At this stage, the focus is primarily on knowledge creation rather than commercialization. This pathway of technology transition is summarized in Figure 1.

A TTO needs a planned budget of five years to sustain it in the long term. This involves budgeting the infrastructure, manpower, research, and outreach programs. The budgetary needs of a TTO will be based on the size and scope of the TTO and the maturity of the parent institution it caters to. The initial years will be focused on capacity development, the appointment of experts, and the establishment of processes of intellectual property management. The mature TTO will generate income through the returns of the licensing agreements and the collaborative efforts with the industry. Nevertheless, external funding through grants and government schemes plays a vital part, particularly in the initial years. The planned budget ensures long-term stability and development of the TTO.

Operational expenditure refers to the ongoing costs incurred by a TTO to maintain its day-to-day operations. This includes the cost of maintaining the office, including rent, power and utility bills, computer and network infrastructure, patent management cost, and administration charges. The filing and legal charges also fall within this category. The overheads will be a heavy burden if not planned with finances properly. A TTO has to be provided with a properly planned operational budget that covers the daily operational expenses. Technology transfer (TT) is entering a transformative phase shaped by globalization, digitization, and the growing role of start-ups in the innovation ecosystem. Traditional linear models of TT where inventions flowed from academic laboratories to industry through licensing are being replaced by dynamic, multi-directional, and collaborative frameworks. This chapter explores emerging trends that will define TT in the coming decades, including open innovation platforms, digital TT ecosystems powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain, the rise of entrepreneurial start-ups and spin-offs, internationalization of TT through cross-border collaborations, and sector-specific shifts driven by 5G, biotechnology, drones, and green energy. Drawing from global and Indian contexts, the chapter highlights how universities, governments, and industries can leverage these trends to build inclusive, resilient, and sustainable innovation ecosystems.
Three global shifts which will redefine TT
1. Digitization of knowledge: With AI, big data, and blockchain, knowledge and IP can be shared, tracked, and commercialized faster and more transparently.
2. Entrepreneurial ecosystems: Start-ups, incubators, and accelerators are replacing traditional firms as vehicles of commercialization, particularly in deep-tech and frontier technologies.
3. Globalization of innovation: Challenges such as pandemics, climate change, and food security require cross-border TT collaborations, making TT an instrument of both economic and geopolitical significance.

Introduction Organizational structure and management represent fundamental dimensions of community mobilization that determine how collective efforts are organized, coordinated, and sustained over time while building institutional capacity for effective action and long-term development success. The design and implementation of appropriate organizational arrangements significantly influence the ability of community groups and development organizations to achieve their goals while maintaining community ownership, democratic participation, and adaptive capacity that can respond to changing circumstances and emerging opportunities. The complexity of contemporary community challenges requires sophisticated organizational approaches that can coordinate diverse activities and stakeholders while maintaining flexibility and responsiveness to local conditions and community preferences. The emergence of Large Language Models has enabled the development of virtual teaching assistants capable of providing students with continuous, interactive, and personalized academic support. This chapter examines the role of LLM-powered chatbots and intelligent tutors in modern education. Unlike conventional digital resources, AI teaching assistants can engage learners through natural-language dialogue, explain difficult concepts, provide examples, generate practice activities, offer hints, and deliver immediate feedback. They can support individualized learning pathways by adapting explanations and learning materials to student needs, performance, and pace. The chapter explores applications in tutoring, assessment, academic guidance, interactive textbooks, student support, and self-directed learning. AI assistants can also reduce routine teacher workload by supporting activities such as grading, question generation, content recommendation, and classroom analytics. Inclusive education requires learning environments that recognize and respond to the diverse sensory, physical, cognitive, emotional, and learning needs of students with disabilities. The integration of Generative AI with Assistive Educational Technology and digital pedagogy creates new possibilities for removing longstanding barriers to participation and achievement. This chapter explores how intelligent technologies can provide flexible, adaptive, and personalized learning experiences for disabled students. It examines applications involving text-to-speech, speech-to-text conversion, screen readers, captions, intelligent interfaces, eye tracking, gesture-based controls, AR/VR, multimodal content, real-time feedback, and AI-supported personalization. Generative AI can further enhance conventional assistive technologies by producing customized written, visual, and audio learning materials according to individual requirements. Universal Design for Learning provides an important framework for ensuring that these technologies support accessibility and inclusion rather than creating additional barriers. The chapter also highlights the importance of individualized learning plans, teacher preparation, family and community engagement, emotional support, and stakeholder collaboration. By combining digital pedagogy, assistive technologies, and GenAI, educational institutions can move toward more equitable, accessible, learner-centered environments in which students with disabilities can participate meaningfully and develop their full potential.

The growing adoption of Generative AI in academic institutions has moved the technology from experimental applications toward practical implementation across teaching, learning, research, student support, and university operations. This chapter examines real-world applications and institutional case studies that demonstrate how GenAI can be incorporated into higher education and other academic environments. Key applications include AI tutoring and learning support, curriculum and course development, assessment and feedback, research assistance, student-success services, and institutional operations. AI writing coaches can provide individualized guidance, while dialogic mathematics and coding assistants can support problem-solving without simply providing answers. Educators can use GenAI to develop learning objectives, case studies, examples, question banks, rubrics, multimedia scripts, synthetic datasets, and practice environments. The chapter also considers institutional experiences with AI policies, academic integrity, accessibility, privacy, and professional development. Successful implementations generally combine technological capabilities with human review, clear institutional guidelines, and AI literacy. Case studies demonstrate both the potential and limitations of GenAI, emphasizing that effective adoption requires contextual evaluation rather than technology-driven implementation alone. The chapter provides practical insights for institutions seeking evidence-based and responsible approaches to educational transformation through generative AI.

The increasing deployment of Large Language Models across education, healthcare, finance, employment and public services has made fairness and ethical responsibility central concerns in AI development. LLMs learn from enormous datasets that may contain historical inequalities, stereotypes, cultural assumptions and other forms of social bias. This chapter examines the origins, manifestations and consequences of bias in LLMs and considers approaches for promoting fair and responsible deployment. It discusses data bias arising from the composition and curation of training datasets, algorithmic bias introduced through model architectures and learning processes, and bias associated with human-in-the-loop systems. Gender, racial and cultural biases are considered because they can influence generated outputs and potentially reinforce existing inequalities. The chapter also examines fairness evaluation, mitigation strategies, transparency, accountability and human oversight. Ethical concerns extend beyond bias to hallucination, misinformation, privacy and inappropriate automation. Effective governance requires continuous monitoring rather than one-time assessment because model behaviour may change across applications and populations. The chapter therefore emphasizes responsible AI principles that place fairness, transparency, accountability, safety and human interests at the centre of LLM development and deployment.

Executive summary

The ITK system had been developed by the indigenous communities based on their experiences, continuous improvement through informal experimentation and transfer of such knowledge to next generations. The tried and tested rich ITK pertaining to agriculture, livestock and other allied sectors had been interwoven with the socio-cultural and traditional practices followed by them. Since time immemorial indigenous communities had been applying ITK in animal husbandry to increase milk production, fertility, retention of placenta, breeding, prolapsed, care for the young stock and preparation of indigenous livestock products. ITKs are often adapted according to the local culture and traditions, needs, and environment; they are very dynamic and continuously changing, and lay emphasis on minimizing the risks rather than maximizing profits. Indigenous knowledge of livestock rearing is often “tacit” and not necessarily expressed in the conventional form of scientific documentation. The origin and evolution of indigenous technical knowledge (ITK) in India has been reported since time immemorial. Since then, the knowledge, belief, skills and practices pertaining to diagnosis, treatment and management of animal and human diseases are imprinted and carried to future generations. In the light of evolution, the practice has come to limelight as an alternative low cost solution to conventional western medicine and readily practiced by ordinary farmers. 

1. Introduction

A cooperative agricultural extension service has been implemented in Japan by both national and prefectural governments to support small-scale farmers who emerged as a result of land reform after the Second World War (Yamada, 2008).  In recent years, however, the scope and level of agricultural extension advisors’ activities have become more sophisticated and diversified because of technological progress and a wider range of activities, from production and selling to promoting relevant political measures.  On the other hand, the number of agricultural extension advisors has been decreasing for several years because of a cut in government expenditure for the cooperative extension service.  For this reason, information and communication technology (ICT) is needed to promote advanced and efficient extension activities (Yamada, 2010).

Nigeria has a very large domestic market, but consumers, farmers, processors and other agribusiness investors are often faced with challenges getting timely and relevant information. However, it has been found out that in Nigeria many people preferred receiving information over a mobile phone than a computer. The problems farmers encounter in exchanging information and that more than half of Nigeria’s population are mobile phone subscribers of which majority of them are farmers necessitate overview of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)  and agricultural development in Nigeria. Literatures were consulted, secondary data, and personal observations were tools used to compile the chapter contribution.

ABSTRACT

The Village Knowledge Centre programme was started in January 1998 in the Union Territory of Pondicherry (now Puducherry) in the east coast of South India with the support of IDRC and CIDA. In order to ensure access to all, the VKCs are located in public buildings (Panchayats, SHG’s building, Community Hall, School, Farmers and Fishermen Associations, Women Self-Help Groups, Community Based Organization, etc.,). The information content is developed in close interaction with the local people in a bottom-up manner.

Abstract

The major objective of this chapter is to examine how knowledge management initiative can bring competitive edge and help organizations to compete in a knowledge era. People now viewed as being the most valuable asset and ‘people management’ being a pertinent issue in knowledge management, the pivotal role of HR is being increasingly recognized by the organizations in a knowledge economy. The chapter starts with a discussion on the nature of knowledge management, theory, and process and then explores the role of human resource practices in facilitating the KM process in organizations. The author examines how different HRM practices like talent management, performance management, training and development, fostering trust, reward systems, institutionalizing learning systems and leadership can be linked with the knowledge management process to achieve competitive advantage.

Scarcity of resources, economic deprivation, gender bias in wages, prevention from decision making and using income generated by farm activities has made life miserable and unjustifiably hard for rural women. The plight of rural women can be improved by dissemination of latest technologies in agriculture, creating small entrepreneurial outlets for agri-based products, networking of support services for women, development of new and adoption of drudgery reducing technologies, improvement in rural infrastructure to improve the life style and to promote entrepreneurial opportunities, better access to resources, organizing women’s co-operative movement, larger role in decision making, mandatory involvement of women in all agencies and organizations involved in rural development, feedback and follow up of women’s programmes and recognizing the success of rural women by government and its highlighting by media.

In rural development, the sole aim is to transfer the technology for better living of people. The process by which the technology is transferred to users is called Transfer of Technology. Transfer of technology falls in the domain of adoption and diffusion. Therefore, it is necessary to understand adoption and its related issues. Adoption of sustainable agricultural practices is relatively difficult as people do not find newness in it. The transfer of technology is explained in terms of technology movement from place of generation to the hands of the users.

Abstract

Watershed development and management programme appeared to an effective and integrated approach to manage all natural resources like land, water, vegetation, animal and human for sustainable benefit and maintaining balanced eco-system. The main principle of the programme is based on starting from its planning, making design outlay, formulation of technical works, execution and development of land along with creation of water resources developing a hydrological unit at downstream making a common drainage points for the purpose of sustainable development of agriculture. The present case study dealt with the integrated water resources management with specific guidelines to the farmers for clear understanding of installing small-scale irrigation system based on their own resources in accordance with actual land situations as well as judicious use of irrigation with adoption of water-saving technology for sustainable crop production through watershed approach. The work was carried out under National Watershed Development Project for Rainfed Area (NWDPRA), one out of 21 watersheds was identified for development of rainfed agriculture with mobilization of all natural resources like soil-plant-water-animal-human to uplift socio-economic status of the farmers. 

Abstract

Agricultural development in India provides support to a large section of farmers who operate on small holdings and have very limited risk bearing capacity. Farmers are often exposed to natural vagaries, which adversely affect their agricultural production and farm income. Moreover, there is huge financial exclusion in rural sector of the nation. If there is a crop failure, farmers are crushed under the burden of debt. Farmers seek to avoid risk in terms of various managerial and institutional mechanisms. But it is widely believed that ‘Crop Insurance’ is the only institutional mechanism available against production risk in farming. Unfortunately, penetration of crop insurance schemes in India has been low in terms of the area of land insured and the number of farmers covered. There are the problems of low risk awareness and lack of insurance culture among the farmers. In this backdrop, the paper documents the findings of a survey of 140 farmers, which was taken up in some selected villages of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The study shows that likelihood of this awareness increases with increase in landholding size, education level, borrowing history and social participation of the farmers, whereas it decreases with the non-farm income and livestock of the farmers. The author proposes measures to promote and spread awareness of crop insurance among the farmers as a risk mitigation tool in farming, which will increase farm production and stabilize the fluctuation in farm income. The study provides valuable policy measures to the government in better designing of their crop insurance products and will also help the private agro-insurance business, which is recently taking off in the country.

Introduction

India is the largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar in the world next to Brazil. Among the sugar yielding crops like sugarcane, sugar beet, palms and sorghum, sugarcane is the second most important agro-industrial crop of the country. It is the only raw material for nearly 538 sugar mills (2014-15), producing about 28 million mt of sugar annually from a sugarcane production of 366 million tons in an area of 5.307 mh. Apart from this, it is the predominant source of potable alcohol, industrial alcohol and fuel-ethanol. In India, 35 million farmers are engaged in sugarcane cultivation and another 50 million depend on employment generated by these 538 sugar factories and other related industries using sugar. Sugarcane occupies a very prominent position in the agricultural crops of India covering large areas in UP, Punjab, Haryana and Bihar (sub tropical) and Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu (tropical). On an average, white sugar production accounts for 74% of total cane produced, 14-15% is utilized for jaggery and khandsari production and the rest is utilized for other purposes including seed.

Jaggery and khandsari, the traditional Indian sweeteners are the natural mixture of sugar and molasses. If pure clarified sugarcane juice is boiled, what is left as solid is jaggery, which contains 65-85% sucrose. Khandsari sugar is a finely granulated and crystallized which contains 94 to 98% sucrose. In the early 1930’s, nearly 2/3rd of sugarcane production was utilized to manufacture these two alternate sweeteners. With the introduction of sugar mills and their multiple growth and better standard of living and higher per capita income, the demand for sweetener has shifted to white sugar which contains purely sucrose (99.7%).

Fish is a source of valuable animal protein and is considered a health food. This has resulted in increased consumer demand. Fish is now more expensive than meat and other animal foods. Being a highly perishable commodity, fish require immediate processing and various options are available for the value addition of fish. Fish processing, particularly seafood processing and marketing have become highly complex and competitive and exporters are trying to process more value added products to increase their profitability. Value can be added to fish and fishery products according to the requirements of different markets. These products range from live fish and shellfish to ready to serve convenience products. In general, value added food products are raw or pre-processed commodities whose value has been increased through the addition of ingredients or processes that make them more attractive to the buyer and/or more readily usable by the consumer.

Introduction

Pulse production in India has fluctuated widely with no long-term trend, leading to a steady decline in per capita availability per day, i.e. from 60.7 grams to 33.40 grams during 1951 to 2001, while its average requirement is about 65 gram per day per head. The pulses used to serve a low cost food to meet the protein requirement of a large sector of people in India. But, the pulses are becoming out of reach for the common people of country because of its continuing shoring prices. A Technology Mission on Pulse production was launched by Government of India in 1986-87 as a special drive to increase the pulse production in the country. The vision of Technology Mission of Pulse is attaining self reliance in pulses for household nutritional security and sustainability of the production system. The mission statement was to increase Pulse production from existing (IX plan) 131.4 lakh tonnes to 162 lakh tonnes; Productivity from 594 kg/ha to 702 kg/ha and per capita availability of pulses from 35 g to 40 g per day at affordable price. Unfortunately, the country has not been able to achieve self-sufficiency in the pulse production. During the last 40 years, the acreage under pulse crops and its production remained almost between 21-24 million hectares and 10-15 million tonnes, respectively. Consequently, the country has had to depend on import of pulses every year to meet the part of its shortage. The National Commission of Agriculture had estimated that the country should plan to produce about 25 million tonnes of pulses by the end of 2000, but we could achieve only about 14 million tonnes. Presently, the area and the production of pulse crops account for about 18.50 and 7.20 per cent (2003-04) of total area under foodgrains and total food grains production in the country, respectively.

Introduction

Research and development (R&D) is one of the main components to tackle the problems persisting or likely to take place in future. Priority areas of research are depending upon the overall situation and requirements of the problem under consideration. Under these broad areas, topic of interest for research may be varying at different geographical level from household to nation or global. Declining environmental conditions and biological diversity became global concern in seventh decade of twentieth century. To tackle this problem, The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm) resolved to establish the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1972. Further, to speed up the progress, global community through world leaders had identified two burning priority areas during conference United Nations (U N) Environmental Programme Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992, well known as Earth Summit. One of those two priority areas was Biological Diversity. To address the issues at global levels, The Convention on Biological Diversity was signed by party nations, which was later ratified by the 187 countries. India is also one of the signatory nations and need to fulfill some time bound commitments. Moreover, later, importance of biodiversity and germplasm has been underlined by different forum at regional and global level for its present and future values in the life of human kind. Countries and various geographical regions are now becoming more and more aware about its judicious exploitation, conservation and sustained higher output over period of time.
