The rapid growth of Large Language Models has demonstrated that increasing model size, training data and computational resources can significantly improve performance. This chapter examines the theoretical and empirical foundations of scaling laws and their relationship with optimization strategies used to train and deploy increasingly capable LLMs. It discusses the major scaling dimensions of model parameters, dataset size and computational budget and explains how predictable relationships between these factors influence model development. The chapter considers the foundational work on scaling laws and the subsequent movement toward compute-optimal training approaches. It also examines distributed training, advanced optimization algorithms, memory optimization, data curation, quantization, pruning and efficient inference. Particular attention is given to Mixture-of-Experts architectures, efficient attention mechanisms and inference-aware scaling. The interaction between scaling laws and optimization is presented as a synergistic process in which scaling principles guide resource allocation while optimization techniques improve computational efficiency. The chapter concludes by discussing emerging capabilities, sustainability, hardware requirements and responsible scaling of future foundation models.

Large Language Models have fundamentally changed natural language processing and expanded the role of artificial intelligence across software engineering, healthcare, education, business and scientific research. This concluding chapter synthesizes the major technological, operational and societal themes addressed throughout the book and develops a roadmap for next-generation AI models. It considers the continuing evolution of model architectures, training methodologies, multimodal capabilities, real-time inference and specialized applications. At the same time, future AI development must address privacy, fairness, transparency, accountability, security, computational cost and environmental sustainability. The chapter emphasizes that LLM development cannot be viewed solely as a race toward larger models; future systems must also become more efficient, adaptable, interpretable and responsible. Emerging directions include self-improving systems, real-time reasoning, multimodal intelligence, domain-specific models and increasingly autonomous AI agents. Lifecycle governance, continuous evaluation and human oversight will remain essential as models become more deeply integrated into society. 1. Basic Information

Benin is situated in West Africa at inter-tropical zone between the parallels 6°30 and 12°30 North and the meridian lines 1° and 3°40 East. The Republic of Benin is limited in the north by the Republic of Niger and to the North-West by Burkina Faso, in the south by the Atlantic Ocean, in the west by Togo and in the east by the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Republic of Benin extends over 700 km length from the Atlantic Ocean to river Niger. Its width varies from 125 km, along the coast, to 325 km, in the northern part. It covers an area of 112.622 km².

With the third General Census of the Population and Habitat in February 2002, Benin counted 6,769,914 inhabitants thereby giving an average density of 60.11 inhabitants per km². Currently the population is estimated to nearly 8 million inhabitants with a natural rate of increase of 2.8 per cent. The average densities estimated from the last census of the population vary between 16 inhabitants per km² in the department of Borgou and 322 inhabitants per km² in the department of Atlantic.

1. Basic Information

1.1. Location and Size
 
Ghana, lying between latitudes 4º 30’ to 11ºN and longitudes 1º 10’E to 3º15’W, shares common borders in the east, north and west with the Republics of Togo, Burkina Faso, and Cote d’Ivoire respectively.  The country covers a total area (including water bodies) of 238,537 square kilometres.  

1.2. Climate
 
Ghana has a tropical climate with temperatures ranging between 21ºC and 32ºC. Mean annual rainfall in Ghana is generally lower in the northern part of the country (800-900 mm) and increases southwards (2100-2200 mm) albeit a small part of the eastern coastal belt has low mean annual rainfall of 700-800 mm. Humidity figures range from 78 to 87 per cent across the country. Although Ghana cannot be described as a mountainous country, there are a number of highlands and steep escarpments in the middle portion and some parts of the northern zone. The land is generally flat with more than half of the country at an altitude of 200 m.

1. Introduction

Iran, with an area of 1648 thousand sq.kms.,  is situated in the eastern portion of the northern hemisphere, in the south west of Asia, and is considered as one of the Middle East countries. Iran is a mountainous country with a variety of climates. The average temperature and rainfall for the whole country are quoted as 18ºC and 240 mm respectively (CAPES, 1996). The country is also organized into 28 provinces. Over the past two decades, rapid rate of population growth has been a major source of concern in Islamic Republic of Iran. The population of the country passed the 60 million figures in 1993 and is projected to reach 86 million by the year 2010. In fact, the Iranian population has doubled in this period (CAPES, 1996). For example, according to the 1991 census, the female population of 15 years and above was 15 million (Anonymous, 1998). However, thanks to considerable investments and well-organized and directed national population planning program, population growth rate is now 1.5 percent in the urban and two percent in the rural areas. At the national level, the figure is 1.65 percent (CAPES, 1996).

1. GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Agriculture, as one of the most important economic sectors in Jordan, is under increasing pressure due to rising population, consumer affluence, pressure from globalization and a shrinking resource base. Previous production challenges in Jordan have been met largely through improvements in traditional agricultural inputs such as seeds and agrochemicals, but the present challenges need different solutions. Better management, which involves higher degrees of information and knowledge, is widely seen as a way to address these challenges. The potentials that ICT has to offer range from the sharing and re-use of data, research findings, lessons learned and best practices among R&D institutions to developing quick response mechanisms for agricultural and natural resources crises situations; from permitting informed decision making among the agricultural officials to sounder policy making among the legislators; from improving the extension delivery systems in the rural areas to bringing e-Commerce to the farmers.

Agricultural extension is about the application of information into knowledge and adoption, such as application of scientific research to agricultural practices through farmer training. ICT broadly defined as facilitation by electronic means the creation, storage, management and dissemination of information. Two types of ICT – old and new are practiced in extension service; the former refers to radio and TV which are low cost and require little skill to use while the latter forms of ICT include networked computers, satellite-sourced communication, wireless technology and the internet. Assume key factors explaining different ICT taken up by country are: per capita income; levels of education; the rural concentration; and dispersal of a country’s population.

The development of ICT in Jordan is fast and the Jordan’s IT capacity related to agro-information dissemination needs to be vastly improved at the local level to allow the effective horizontal transmission of information and communication between the farmers and institutions. However, technological challenges have still to be addressed such as the lack of trained communicators, poor ICT infrastructures high costs and limited access to ICTs and lack of relevant content.

Abstract

The Indian western Himalayas have wide variation in altitude, climate, soils, flora and fauna and socio-economic features. Livelihood options are limited due to small and fragmented holdings and inherent hill and mountain specificities. However, the physiographic and agro-climatic variability also offer opportunities of cultivating wide variety of profitable traditional and market oriented crops for exploiting niche advantage. Non-timber forest products play a vital role for livelihood security and demand that initiatives at local and governmental level are taken to develop and popularize technologies for collecting, processing and value adding to these products for commercial exploitation. Research and self help institutions are important in this context but strong regulatory policy framework is equally important. Further, need based and location specific trainings and demonstrations need to be organized to fill the knowledge void especially in traditional activities and emerging vocational enterprises. The national and international business concerns, engaged in exploiting natural resources such as hydro power and calcareous and limestone deposits should also engage more meaningfully in this task, under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) Livelihood generating scheme such as MNREGS should be extended to the non-conventional activities like weed eradication, management of wild (monkeys) and stray (cattle) animals that threaten livelihood security.

Abstract

Livelihood of ~80% of rural inhabitants depends upon agriculture that relies upon the prevailing environmental conditions such as water availability and temperature. If unfavorable to the crops, these conditions would impact production and productivity leading to food-insecurity. Various abiotic stresses are generated due to the physiography that includes altitude, topography, edaphic factors, water availability and ecosystem degradation. In spite of the environmental limitations, crops have survived suggesting operation of relevant adaptive mechanisms in the native species. Indeed, novel genetic mechanisms were present and these could be utilized to improve the plant productivity under stress conditions. Also there are issues on the management of abiotic stresses, which need to be addressed. The chapter presents framework and policies on sustaining agriculture production under the situations of abiotic stress to ensure production sustainability by protecting livelihood of the inhabitants. Western Himalaya was deliberately chosen as the focus for discussion.

Current and emerging animal nutrition, reproduction and health management technologies have the potential to improve efficiency of livestock production. However, the thermal stress or hyperthermia caused by elevated ambient temperature reduces feed intake, milk yield, growth rate and reproductive performance of livestock species. Livestock in tropical countries will be affected severely by the abrupt and fast-paced climate changes. The impact is not only on production traits, a number of animal species may become endangered. Many of the native livestock species still perform better under climatic stress and low-input conditions. It is necessary to catalogue the indigenous livestock genetic resources, elucidate their genetic make-up and regulation of key metabolic pathways of adaptation and productive attributes and using the inferences to develop strategies for utilizing livestock resources under climatic stress.

Abstract

The hilly regions of western Himalayas comprise of three states namely Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal which are divided into High Altitude Temperate, High Hill Temperate and Valley Temperate zones. Through observations, trial and error, man has developed skills related to cultivation, utilization and livelihood. These were transmitted through generations and in this way, a system of traditional knowledge developed and moved forward for the benefit of the society. Food is the basic necessity for the survival of human beings. Since ancient times, various methods have been used to process and preserve foods especially in the Himalayan regions. The food habits and preparation of various dishes depend upon the availability of crops and surrounding vegetation. On the basis of the substrate used, traditional foods and beverages of Himalayan region are broadly classified as Cereal and Legume based, Milk based, Fruits and Vegetables, and others. Some of the popular traditional foods of Himalayan region are Aenkadu/Askalu, Bagpinni/ pinni, Chhangpa, Chaulai ka bhat, Kutu ki roti, Lesuwa roti, Tilkuta, Kaddu ke khwaire, Mooli ke khwaire, Sarson ki dhusi, Arbi ke sukhe danthal, Chaulai ki kheer, Ogal ka halwa. Traditional fermented foods and beverages are very popular in the tribal and rural areas of western Himalayas. Besides being source of nutrition, these fermented foods constitute staple food (Bhaturu) in larger part of western Himalayas while others are consumed during local festivals, marriages and special occasions. A variety of indigenous fermented foods and beverages available are; Kinema, Marcha, Phab, Bekanthu, Gundruk, Sinki, Soibun, Sura, Chhang, Daru, Angoori/ Kinnauri etc.Due to lack of proper scientific technology the quality of such foods especially beverages (many- a- times) is uncertain and their consumption leads to a higher incidence of fatal diseases among the consumers. This chapter briefly reviews the preparation, significance and quality of indigenous foods of Western Himalayas which offer tremendous opportunity for sustaining livelihood of the people of Himalayan region and stimulating agro-industrial development even in the developing countries, after upgrading and sustaining their quality.

Beekeeping symbolizes the biological interdependence between insects, pollination and production of seed. Honey bees have been tirelessly rendering this yeoman service to benefit human-kind since time immemorial. Beekeeping is defined as “the science and art of rearing honey bees for man’s economic benefits”. Since, honey producing bees are restricted to the genus Apis beekeeping is also called ‘Apiculture’. A suitable place selected for housing honey bee hives, equipments and related accessories is referred to as an “apiary”. The invention of movable hive with separable frames in 1851 by L.L. Langstroth gave beekeeping the impetus to flourish. Further fine-tuning of scientific rearing techniques in these movable hives helped in spreading beekeeping to the newer areas.

Honey Producing Species of Bee

About 20,000 bee species are found worldwide. However, only four species viz. the European honey bee (Apis mellifera Linnaeus), the oriental bee (A. cerana Fabricius), the dwarf bee (A. florae Fabricius), and the giant or rock bee (A. dorsata Fabricius) are commonly recognized as honey producing. Amongst these two, only A. cerana and A. mellifera are hived because these build multiple-combs in dark cavities. The other two build single comb nests in the open (Akratnakul 1987a, Ruttner 1987).

Abstract

The study of computational toxicity prediction is very crucial and necessary, as it is quite time consuming and expensive to measure the toxicity via experimental techniques (Quan Liao et al., 2006). The use of computational approaches particularly to reduce the time and cost for the evaluation of the kinetic and toxic behaviour of any drug has been increased tremendously in recent time period (Richard Judson et al., 2004). Machine learning is a powerful tool to discover new complex combinatorial relationships in various in vitro and in vivo data information (Richard Judson et al., 2004) and has been successfully used in many diverse fields with numerous applications such as pharmacodynamics properties prediction (Czerminski et al., 2001; Livingstone et al., 2003), protein function prediction (Cai et al., 2003), medical decision making (Veropoulos, 2001), spam categorization (Drucker et al., 1999), detection of oil spills (Kubat et al., 1998), and speech recognition (Nuttakorn et al., 2001).

Abstract

Knowledge and communication is an important resource for agriculture and can contribute substantially to ensure food security and sustainability by creating awareness and skill development through access to information. The initial and most prominent player of knowledge delivery is public sector extension services, which from past few years, are usually criticized for their ineffective targeting, poor reach and the huge administrative cost of delivering information. Since past few years, the drastic increase in mobile penetration even in rural areas has lead to evolution of ICT-based extension services models to disseminate agriculture related information.

SYNOPSIS

We lag in nutritional awareness. The therapeutic values of plant foods, such as vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices and other foods like dairy products, fluids and meats are to be brought to light. The values of important nutrients, may lead to the basis for nutritional education lacking at present. There is need to bring awareness and add to the knowledge of the younger generation. A food is something that provides nutrients. Nutrients are substances that provide: energy for activity, growth, and all functions of the body such as breathing, digesting food, and keeping warm; materials for the growth and repair of the body, and for keeping the immune system healthy.

ABSTRACT

In the recent years, the notion of ‘digital divide’ has been widely researched and has attracted much debate and speculation for its economic, social and political consequences. Existing studies reveals, the gap that exists between those who have access to ICTs and those who do not create exclusion, endanger social integration and hamper economic growth. The digital divide has many dimensions and can be categorized as global, regional and national. At national level, there is no single divide, but multiple divides: for instance; within countries, between men and women, young and elderly, rich and poor and most importantly rural and urban. The present paper is mainly focused on India and tries to explore the problem of digital divide mainly in rural-urban India. In the context of present paper, digital divide essentially means teledensity, mobile and Internet divide between the rural and urban areas. The paper reveals that obstacles such as illiteracy, lack of skills, infrastructure,  and investment in rural areas must be tackled if India is to diminish the gap of digital divide. At the government front, it should put thrust towards: connectivity provision, content creation, capacity augmentation, core technologies creation and exploitation, cost reduction, competence building, community participation and commitment to the deprived and disadvantaged which would definitely help in bridging digital divide.

Abstract

Whenever human beings come together and interact, there are bound to be conflicts. It is the struggle between individuals or groups or organizations for values, status, power or scare resources, that creates tension and frustration. It cannot be totally eliminated, it has to be managed. Positive conflicts sometimes lead to innovations or new directions of thinking in the Research and Development (R&D) environment. But negative conflicts mainly breed unproductiveness, a climate of distrust and suspicion, antagonism, and neglect of organizational goals. Conflict arises due to one of the three reasons : unacceptability, uncertainty and incomparability of alternatives. The problem of unacceptability arises when the most preferred alternative is not found to be acceptable. Uncertainty arises when the individual faces problem to select one from the alternatives. The incomparability dilemma is a situation where the decision maker does not have standards to compare alternatives. Modern managers must be equipped to deal with different types of conflict and devise strategies to resolve them. This chapter deals with conflicts at individual level, at group level or at organizational level, their resolution through negotiation or collaboration, models and methods for managing conflicts, etc in details. A healthy organization climate can unblock creative potential of its employees, streamlining and facilitating efforts for the good of the organization and its employees.

Women constitute 50% of our population. Their contribution to farming needs no emphasis as they are integral part of it. Women have developed farming in our country and contributed immensely for growth and maintenance of agriculture as a whole. But majority of them are not fully aware of sustainable agriculture in scientific terms although they practice it. Surveys and observations reveal that women are in favor of traditional agriculture and feel that traditional farming is more sustainable than the present one.

Introduction

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) commonly called as Poor man’s cashew, is the 6^th most important oil seed crop in the world. It contains 48-50% oil, 26-28% protein and 11-27% carbohydrates. Groundnut is grown on 26.4 million hectare worldwide, with a total production of 37.1 million metric tons and an average productivity of 1.4 metric tons/ha. Developing countries constitute 97% of the global area and 94% of the global production of this crop (FAO, 2011). The production of groundnut is concentrated in Asia and Africa, where the crop is grown mostly by smallholder farmers under rain-fed conditions with limited inputs. Groundnuts (peanuts) are popularly used as seed oil in India. Since, they are obtained from the ground, they are called as groundnuts and also known as ‘Mungfali’ in Hindi, ‘Palleelu or Veru sanaga’ in Telugu, ‘Kadalai’ in Tamil, ‘Nilakkadala’ in Malayalam, ‘Kadale kaayi’ in Kannada, ‘Singdana’ in Gujarati and ‘Shengdaane’ in Marathi. Groundnuts are easily available round the year and almost everywhere in India. Groundnuts are also taken as snacks in many households especially in India. In reality, groundnuts are actually legumes. Since, they have all the properties of nuts like almonds, cashew nuts, etc., these are also included in the family of nuts.

Groundnut is the major oil seed of India. It accounts for 25% of total oil produced in India. Annual production of groundnut is around 9690 thousand tones. As the crop is grown in rainfed conditions, production and productivity are highly vulnerable to rainfall and exhibit huge fluctuation between the years. In India, groundnuts are produced both during Kharif (75%) and Rabi seasons (25%). Major production catchments of groundnut are located in Gujarat holding a share of 50.77% of total groundnut production, Andhra Pradesh holding a second place (12.69%) followed by Tamil Nadu (9.91%). Following are the top groundnut producing states of India (Table 1).

Medical Informatics can be defined as a discipline concerned with all aspects of understanding and promoting the effective organization, analysis, management, and use of information in health care (American Medical Informatics Association, 2007). In recent years, medical informatics has become a well-recognized branch of medicine.

1. INTRODUCTION

The agricultural paradigm in the developing world including Iran will have to be recast to take advantage of knowledge availability to achieve multiple goals of income, food, jobs, etc. Although, many farming communities in developing countries need timely expert advices to make them more productive and competitive, they are still facing a multitude of problems to maximize agricultural productivity. In spite of successful and promising researches conducted on new agricultural practices, majority of the farmers are not getting upper-bound yield due to several reasons. One of them is that scientific agricultural advice is not reaching the farming community in a timely manner. A wide information gap exists between research and practice.

To cope with this problem different countries have taken various measures. What is common in the extension systems of developing countries is that in a backdrop of rapid organizational and social changes in agriculture, new hardware and software devices have to be applied for better responsiveness to increasing farmers demand for timely and accurate information. At the pace of recent progress in ICT, within a decade it will be possible to provide instantaneous connectivity to millions of people, enabling mass customization and personalized services (Reddy and Ankaiah, 2005). Data mining technology can be used to extract useful knowledge from huge database and simulation technology can be used to predict in to the future (Wiederhold, 2002).

Technical Knowledge (ITK) based special inputs / Techniques for plant growth

Growth of the plant has for long been believed to be due to the minerals absorbed from the soil and the food materials synthesized by the palnt. It is recognized that growth of the plant is very much regulated by certain chemical substances known as growth regulators. These substances are formed in one tissue or organ of the plant and are then transported to other sites where they produce specific effects on growth and development. These materials can be produced organically for improving plant growth.

Results and discussion: concept Result is the outcome, consequences or conclusion of a problem, probe or experiment organized after a period of time. This conclusion can be one result, multiple results or no result as such. The length of time taken to find a result can vary from less than a second to many years. In this chapter, the result of the Research has been elaborated and also discussed later. The purpose of the discussion/revelation is to interpret and describe the significance of our findings in light of what was already known about the research problem being investigated, and to explain any new understanding or insights about the problem after we have taken the findings into consideration. The discussion will always connect to the introduction by way of the research questions or hypothesis we posed and the literature we reviewed, but it does not simply repeat or rearrange the introduction and the discussion always explain how our study has moved towards the research problem.

In this chapter, the study’s findings are presented in a structured manner, accompanied by a discussion based on the analysis. The study aimed to present its findings in alignment with its objectives. Towards the end of this chapter, connections between the findings are established, explanations are provided, and an effort is made to uncover the underlying causes. The results and their corresponding discussion are organized according to the specific objectives of the study.

Result: Table 6.1 presents the distribution of 16 independent variables (x1-x16 ) and 3 dependent variables (y1 y3 ) in terms of their Minimum, Maximum, Mean, Variance, Standard deviation, and Coefficient of variation.

According to the study the maximum value for the independent variable Age at survey (x1 ) is 46.00, and minimum is 25.00. The study’s overall distribution was determined to have a mean of 32.938 with a variance of 22.895 and standard deviation 4.785. The high level of consistency is indicated by the variable’s coefficient of variation, which is 14.527%.

According to the study the maximum value for the independent variable Marital status (x2 ) is 18.00 and minimum is 0.00. The study’s overall distribution was determined to have a mean of 3.838 with a variance of 15.783 and standard deviation 3.973. The low level of consistency is indicated by the variable’s coefficient of variation, which is 103.527%.

i. Behavior of Ants and Goats:

• Ants: When ants come out of their nest carrying their pupae, it indicates that rain will come soon.

• Goats: Goats can sense approaching rain and signal it 2 to 3 days in advance through behavioral changes. They change their usual resting places, show little interest in taking food or water, and bawl and shout throughout the day.

Abstract
Every nation needs an effective food legislation and food control service to promote a safe, honestly presented food supply, and to protect consumers from contaminated, adulterated, and spoiled foods. The principles to be included in food safety and legislations are primarily inspection, enforcement, biological and chemical contaminants, packaging and labelling, and food trade in local and overseas market. Harmonization of Food Law on the international level is a worldwide trend from the late twentieth century. In India AGMARK and FSSAI are sole regulatory authority for food production and marketing. International laws and regulations play a vital role in trade and commerce. International regulatory bodies include CODEX, EU, HALAL, USFDA, FAO and WTO. This chapter deals with international and national food safety regulation and legislations with regulatory framework in India and implications on international trade.

    Introduction
Over 60% of the population in India is occupied in agriculture and associated fields, making it one of the world’s most agriculturally dense nations. In India, the agricultural sector accounts for 18.6% of the country’s GDP. Almost all crops, including cereals, vegetables, and cash crops, are grown in India (Vanitha et al., 2013; APEDA, 2020). From the beginning of time, several pests, including weeds, insects, plant diseases, and nematodes, have had a detrimental effect on agriculture. As a result, crop losses are estimated to be 45%, or over 290 billion, annually (Aneja et al., 2016). Regardless of tactics, illnesses and pests significantly contribute to agricultural losses. Diseases, weeds, and insects hinder plant growth and lower plant density, eventually lowering the food supply. The Entomological Society of America (ESA) has released a policy statement stating that invasive insects cost more than $2.5 billion to control and cost $18 billion per year in economic losses to pastures, crops, lawns, and forests (The Not-So-Hidden Dangers of Invasive Species, 2018). Invasive crop pests continue to threaten food security because of the intricate relationships between human migration, international trade, climate change, and evolving agricultural techniques. Several of these variables also contribute to the sharp rise of urban pests and disease-carrying insects. The primary method of insect pest management has been chemical pesticides. Nonetheless, an increasing call for less agricultural chemical use due to worries about the environment, human health, and pesticide resistance ignites interest in novel ways.
Conventional chemical pesticides have raised food production and harmed non-target animals and the ecosystem. To prevent and mitigate pest-induced crop losses in storage (post-harvest losses) and in the field (pre-harvest losses). This has been accomplished through the development of numerous crop protection techniques. In the past few decades, chemical pesticides have been utilized to reduce food losses induced by insect pests; however, this has decreased agricultural production. Moreover, volatile pesticide residues have periodically raised questions about food safety among domestic customers and presented challenges to export crops’ ability to trade. Insecticides can cause physical or biological harm to pests. Certain insecticides are applied topically or indirectly to plants those insects may consume. Pesticides harm nature, soil, and human well-being, so regulations and rules governing their use are becoming more stringent. New technology and products to control and prevent pests are desperately needed. In modern agriculture, various methods are now available, including biological control, insect behavior, genetic modification, microbial pesticides and plant immunization of pest populations.

Migration reflects the patterns of societal transformations. From a historical perspective, throughout the process of industrialization and economic advancement, individuals relocate from agricultural areas to industrial sectors, from rural areas to urban centres, from one urban centre to another, and from one nation to another. Currently, Asia, Africa, and Latin America are seeing significant technical advancements, leading to a substantial movement from rural to urban areas in these countries. Economists research migration because to its impact on the availability of skilled and semi-skilled workers, the growth of industries and commerce, and the resulting changes in the employment patterns of migrants. The formulation of economic policy is closely intertwined with the phenomenon of migration, since migration significantly impacts a country’s economic and social progress. The study of migration is crucial due to its impact on population dynamics, including population size, growth rate, and demographic structure, as determined by birth rate, death rate, and migration. Furthermore, migration significantly influences the geographical spread of the population and the availability of workforce inside the nation. Foundation architectures provide the technological basis for modern artificial intelligence systems and enable models to generalize across diverse tasks and modalities. This chapter examines the evolution of neural architectures that ultimately led to the dominance of the Transformer in contemporary language and multimodal AI. It begins with early neural networks, convolutional neural networks and recurrent neural networks before introducing attention mechanisms and the Transformer architecture. Particular attention is given to the major components of Transformers, including self-attention, multi-head attention, positional encoding and feedforward layers. Encoder, decoder and encoder–decoder configurations are examined through influential models such as BERT and GPT. The chapter further considers Vision Transformers and CLIP, demonstrating the extension of Transformer principles beyond natural language processing. At the same time, limitations such as computational complexity, memory requirements and long-context processing are discussed. Alternative approaches, including state-space models such as Mamba, efficient attention mechanisms, hierarchical architectures and Mixture-of-Experts models, are also explored as promising directions for scalable, efficient and adaptive AI.

Large Language Models have moved beyond experimental research environments and now support conversational agents, coding assistants, recommendation systems and intelligent decision-making applications. However, delivering these services to millions of users requires extremely low latency, high throughput, scalability, security and cost efficiency. This chapter examines the engineering principles required for real-time LLM inference and large-scale deployment. It decomposes end-to-end latency into model execution, network and queuing components and discusses techniques for optimizing each stage. Model-level approaches such as quantization, knowledge distillation, LoRA, QLoRA and speculative decoding are examined for reducing computational requirements while maintaining model quality. At the infrastructure level, tensor and sequence parallelism, GPU and TPU acceleration, efficient batching, autoscaling and cloud-native deployment strategies are considered. Key-value caching and speculative decoding are discussed as important methods for reducing response time in interactive applications. The chapter also addresses privacy, confidential computing, real-time PII protection, energy consumption and monitoring of model performance. Practical deployment examples demonstrate how these techniques can support responsive, secure and efficient AI services at production scale.

The rapid expansion of Large Language Models has created two major development ecosystems: open-source models that emphasize transparency, accessibility and community participation, and proprietary models that emphasize centralized control, commercial support and scalable services. This chapter provides a comparative examination of these approaches across technical, economic, ethical and operational dimensions. Open-source models typically provide access to model architectures, weights and development tools, enabling researchers and organizations to inspect, modify, fine-tune and deploy models for specialized applications. Their community-driven nature can accelerate innovation and reduce barriers to experimentation. Proprietary models, in contrast, generally provide controlled access through commercial APIs or platforms and may offer optimized infrastructure, enterprise support, security mechanisms and large-scale deployment capabilities. The chapter compares the two approaches in terms of transparency, customization, licensing, scalability, accessibility, security, cost, accountability and innovation potential. It also discusses the advantages and limitations of each model for startups, academic institutions, enterprises and researchers. Rather than presenting a universal winner, the chapter emphasizes that model selection should depend on application requirements, available resources, governance needs, technical expertise and desired levels of control.

Abstract

Vegetable crops are inherently rich sources of various health-promoting nutrients and thus they play an important role in balancing our daily diet. Being excellent source of vitamins and minerals, vegetables have a relatively variable nutrient content per unit of energy. These nutrients can be increased by proper selection of vegetables in our diet. Whereas their intrinsic quality maintains human health, the extrinsic quality has significance in determining acceptability by the consumer. Vegetables also have medicinal properties. These diversified and highly nutritive crops are of great importance in alleviating hunger and malnutrition. The present production of vegetable crops is, however, not enough to meet per capita daily dietary requirement as per dietitians’ recommendations. The vegetable production, therefore, need to be almost doubled by 2025 to meet requirement of ever increasing population from diminishing land, water and other natural resources. Although, there has been a trend of increase in production and productivity of vegetable crops since liberalization of seed trade in 1988 by Government of India, yet it has not been commensurate with the requirements. Compared globally, we are far behind in productivity of vegetable crops in spite of being second largest producer after China.

The amount of data being collected across a wide variety of fields today far exceeds our ability to reduce and analyze without the use of automated analysis techniques. In addition, the whole data may not be of user interest and imperfect. Therefore, it is very challenging to organize this data in formal system, which provides outputs in more relevant, useful, and structured manner. There are many techniques available to retrieve knowledge from this voluminous data. This paper discusses different rough computing based information retrieval techniques to obtain meaningful knowledge from large amount of datasets. We also discuss a real life example to show the viability of proposed research.

Introduction

Northeastern Region of India consists of eight States, viz., Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.  The northeastern states are located between geographical ordinates, 21° to 29°30' N and 89°46' to 97°30' E. The region, surrounded almost on all sides by Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh, which can be broadly divided into two characteristic zones viz., Mountainous and Plain. Although distinguished in the altitude differences, both the mountain and plain are closely interrelated in terms of natural resource sharing and economic flow. According to the physiographic characters this region is divided into five physiographic units, the Assam Himalayas, the Brahmaputra valley, the Shillong plateau, the Barak valley and the Southeastern hill region. Except the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys in Assam and the Imphal valley in Manipur, the terrain is hilly and mountainous, only making 65% of the northeast an undulating land with elevations ranging from 200 to 900 m above MSL

No society can ever desire to achieve a long-term goal of sustainable development unless it builds upon its own knowledge, traditions, ethical foundations and technological endowments. The knowledge of the people particularly in drought and flood prone regions, hill areas, tribal areas and other high risk environments, has to become a building block of new technological improvements. Knowledge happens when our expectations are belied, modified and sometimes confirmed. Because the asymmetry in our expectations is influenced by our access to resources, institutions, technology and cultural platforms, we get different kinds of knowledge, even when we confront similar situations Gupta (2005). In any community living close to nature, asymmetry in knowledge generation and its utilization is inevitable. The experts exist not just in our profession, but in every profession.

1. Basic Information and Agrarian Status

1.1. Geography

Japan is a crescent-shaped archipelago consisting of four main islands named Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and of a few thousand small islands, with a total area of 3,77,907 square kilometers. The country is mountainous, with forests accounting for 66 per cent of the total area, and arable land 13 per cent.

1.2. Climate

The archipelago is almost 3,000 km in length and stretches from north to south, and  includes subartic, temperate and subtropical zones.

In winter, the side of the country facing the Sea of Japan, include Niigata and Fukui, is known worldwide for its heavy snowfall, but the side facing the Pacific Ocean has little or no snowfall. From spring to fall, there is no big difference between these areas. The summer season starts with an almost one month long baiu (rainy season) around June. After the baiu, the temperature rises to more than 30 degree Celsius, and it become very humid. In the fall, a few typhoons hit Japan, occasionally causing a major disaster.

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, any issue related to “information and communication technologies in agriculture (ICTs)” is extremely interesting and it belongs to the modern subject-matters of the agricultural economics science. Unambiguously the above phrase is the buzz remark for the agricultural extension scientists considering that the process of communication is fundamental to extension, training and passing on information. Thus, learning processes, dissemination of innovations and social change cannot be explained without reference to communication (Albrecht et al., 1989).

An efficient communication strategy, especially when combined with a wide range of available ICTs, utilises the advantages of both personal and impersonal media communication. This can be achieved by building up, promoting and using communication networks and modern technologies. Under the term “network” we understand the complex of communication channels which ensure that all members of the target group receive the message more than once, both from various personal contacts and media. This calls for the use of existing communication relationships, the dissemination of information by multipliers and influential individuals and a range of media which are appropriate to the type of information and for reaching the target groups. As well thought out, communicative approach can partly compensate for the often lamented shortage of advisers provided that one is in a position to communicate a message in various ways, to evaluate feedback and then to take action accordingly.

Introduction

India accounts for 16.7 per cent of the world’s food consumers. India’s size in terms of food consumers is many times larger than the average size of the rest of the countries, except China. At the time of independence in 1947, India was in the grip of a serious food crisis, which was accentuated by the partition of the country. The demand for food far exceeded supply, food prices were ruling at high levels and more than half of the populations were living below the poverty line with inadequate purchasing power. With high rates of population growth, the dependence on imported food increased further. However, the situation improved considerably after the mid-1960s, when new agricultural development strategy and food policies were adopted in the country. The production of staple cereals increased substantially, mainly contributed by productivity improvements. The dependence on food imports reduced and the country became a marginal net exporter of cereals. There was also an improvement in physical and economic access of households to cereals and other nutritive food products. The proportion of households reporting hunger went down and the incidence of economic poverty was reduced. The objective of this paper is to review the Indian approach to tackling the severe problem of food insecurity, which it faced immediately after independence. It reviews the evolution of food policy, the major policy instruments deployed, intervention in food marketing system, and the current status of food security/insecurity. The paper also identifies the lessons emerging from the experience of India. The paper has been divided into eight sections. The second section briefly presents the evolution of the food policy in India and the approaches to food security. The current status of food security and insecurity is analyzed in section 3. The next three sections detail the three major instruments of the food security policy. Price support policies pursued in the country are described in section 4. Section 5 examines the magnitude of input subsidies in Indian agriculture. Direct food and other assistance programs for improving household food and nutrition security and magnitude of food subsidy are presented in section 6, while some salient features of food marketing system that affect food security are given in section 7. Lessons emerging from the Indian experience are presented in the last section.
