In an era defined by increasing climate variability and the urgent need for sustainable food production, the science of Agricultural Meteorology has risen to unprecedented importance. This chapter, “Agricultural Meteorology: An Essential Associate for Natural Farming,” synthesizes the principles and applications we have explored, highlighting their critical role by providing timely, location-specific insights into weather and climate - factors that directly influence crop growth, soil health, and ecological balance. Unlike conventional farming, which often relies on synthetic inputs to manage uncertainty, natural farming depends heavily on understanding and adapting to natural rhythms. Here, agrometeorology becomes an indispensable ally.
Natural farming systems are sensitive to changes in temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind, and solar radiation. Agrometeorology helps farmers monitor and interpret these parameters, enabling them to make informed decisions such as when to sow, irrigate, mulch, or harvest — all without chemical interventions. For instance, knowing the onset of monsoon or forecasted dry spells helps in planning sowing operations or preparing natural plant protection measures like cow dung-based formulations.

Introduction

Agriculture contributes to 29.93% of India's GDP with a share of 27% of the world's agriculture production. India is ranked 6th in the world. In Rajasthan significant portion of economy of is agrarian. The agriculture sector of the state accounts for 22.5% share of agriculture in GSDP which is estimated to 18.39% in 2009-10. About 80% of the total population resides in rural area and largely dependent on agriculture as the source of their livelihood. The hot arid region of western Rajasthan occupies 61% of the total geographical area and 39.51% population of the state. During the last four decades the burgeoning human and livestock population and increased societal demands for land based products led to  significant expansion and intensification of agriculture by putting even marginal lands under plough, excessive exploitation  of ground water and importing of surface water for irrigation.

Artificial intelligence can detect subtle changes in animal health before they become apparent through conventional observation. This chapter examines machine learning, deep learning and predictive analytics for livestock disease prediction and diagnosis. Models use physiological signals, diagnostic images, behaviour patterns, environmental conditions and historical records to recognize abnormalities and estimate disease risk. Wearable sensors and IoT devices enable continuous monitoring and early-warning systems, supporting preventive veterinary care and outbreak management. AI-based detection can reduce mortality, treatment costs and production losses while improving decision-making. The chapter also evaluates challenges involving inconsistent data, model interpretability, rural infrastructure, technical accessibility and the practical implementation of diagnostic systems.

Introduction 
The evolution of public administration in the digital age has been anything but linear. As governments worldwide grapple with waves of technological advancement, the boundaries between reform phases such as e-government, e-governance, digital government, and digital governance often blur. Transformations occur unevenly across sectors and regions, with older paradigms coexisting with or even outlasting newer innovations. As Dunleavy, Margetts, Bastow, and Tinkler (2006, p. 216) perceptively observe: “Defining periods in the evolution of any complex system, such as public management systems in advanced industrial countries, is tricky. New developments accumulate while older trends are still playing out and flourishing. Relatively established ideas move from leading-edge countries or sectors to implementation in previous laggard areas, even as the same ideas are being repudiated or reversed in the erstwhile pioneering locations. Moreover, a confusing welter of changes goes on simultaneously, amongst which it is difficult to distinguish ephemeral and hyped-up innovations from those that are fundamental and longerlasting”. This observation aptly captures the administrative reforms’ non-linear and layered character in the digital era. The coexistence of multiple reform paradigms ranging from early e-government initiatives focused on service delivery, to broader e-governance aimed at leveraging technologies for participatory governance, and finally to the strategic integration seen in digital governance illustrates how public sector innovation is cumulative and contested. Digital governance, in particular, cannot replace previous phases. Instead, it serves as their expansion and convergence, wherein technology, data, and citizen-centricity are embedded in policymaking, service design, and institutional accountability. INTRODUCTION

Ideas and knowledge are increasingly important parts of trade. Most of the value of new medicines and other high technology products lies in the amount of invention, innovation, research, design and testing involved. Hence, protection of such values is paramount. This paper details how these values are protected in India.

Analytical testing provides objective evidence of the composition, safety, physical structure, and sensory quality of ice cream. This chapter introduces the major analytical approaches used in industrial ice cream manufacturing, including chemical, physical, microbiological, and sensory evaluation. Important parameters such as fat, milk solids-not-fat, protein, sugars, ash, acidity, pH, overrun, meltdown, fat destabilization, texture, and product weight are discussed. The chapter explains how different tests support routine quality control, product development, troubleshooting, research, regulatory compliance, and shelf-life studies. It emphasizes that no single analytical parameter can define overall quality. Effective product evaluation requires integrated interpretation of chemical, physical, sensory, microbiological, and storage data.

Setting

The basic difference which dovetails most of the animal breeding experiments is the unbalancedness of the data collated with respect to factorial classes thereby making non-orthogonal nature of the effects involved ubiquitous. Henderson, C.R. (1953), through a series of seminal works dealt with these types of data and came out with three distinct methods to estimate the variance components emanating out of such non-orthogonal animal experiment data. Before discussing those methods, let us delve a bit on the challenges in estimating the variance components in animal breeding data. There are two major reasons, first, several methods of estimation are available (most of which are reduced to the analysis of variance method for balanced data), but not one of them has yet been clearly established as superior to the others. Second, all the methods involve relatively cumbersome algebra; discussion of unbalanced data can therefore easily deteriorate into a welter of symbols, a situation which functions as the anti-appetizer to applied researchers.

A safe starting point towards understanding the nuances of dealing with unbalanced data could be the paper by Henderson (1953) which is quite seminal in nature. The methods described have been often referred to as the gold standard in the area of estimating variance components from unbalanced data for many years to come. Of the three, method 1 is simply an analogue of the analysis of variance method used with balanced data and method 2 is used to correct a deficiency of method 1 that arises out of mixed models and the last one is quite different and involves the method of fitting constants so often used in fixed effects models. Let us see these methods in a bit more detail in the ensuing passages.

Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) combines features of analysis of variance and regression analysis to account for the influence of a concomitant or covariate variable. In forestry and horticultural experiments, initial measurements or other associated characteristics may influence the response variable and contribute to experimental variation. This chapter explains how treatment effects can be evaluated after adjusting for the linear relationship with a covariate. It presents the ANCOVA framework, calculation of sums of squares, regression coefficients, adjusted error and treatment variation, F-tests, and adjusted treatment means. Examples involving seedling growth and physiological responses demonstrate how covariance adjustment can provide more precise comparisons among treatments.

Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is an important statistical technique for separating variation attributable to different sources in an experiment. The chapter explains how total variation can be partitioned into controlled and uncontrolled components and how experimental error is used to assess treatment differences. The F-test provides the basis for testing the homogeneity of several treatment means simultaneously. The chapter discusses the assumptions underlying ANOVA, including independence, normality, additivity, and homogeneity of variance. These traditional knowledge systems, often passed downthrough oral traditions and  storytelling, reflected the specific environmental contexts, mythological beliefs, and spiritual practices of each community. In ancient China, royal astronomers meticulously recorded weather patterns and planetary movements to guide agricultural planning and imperial decisionmakingIn Greece, philosophers like Aristotle and Theophrastus wrote extensively on weather signs and forecasting methods. In Africa, tribal communities observed animal migrations and plant behaviors to anticipate seasonal changes. Native American tribes used lunar cycles and star constellations to predict weather patterns, while ancient Indians studied the movements of planets and nakshatras (lunar mansions) to forecast monsoon rains.

Animal behaviour provides valuable information about health, welfare, reproduction, environmental adaptation and social interaction. Traditional observation is labour-intensive, time-consuming and vulnerable to observer bias. This chapter explains how machine learning automates behavioural analysis using video, sensor and bioacoustic data. It covers preprocessing, feature extraction, classification, clustering and recurrent neural networks for temporal analysis. Computer-vision techniques—including object detection, tracking and pose estimation—enable continuous and non-invasive monitoring. Veterinary oncology is an upcoming field in recent years due to the integration of the importance of spontaneous canine cancers in understanding and developing novel strategies for human cancer management. We are stepping towards a very exciting era in veterinary oncology, where comparative oncology has played a significant role for many decades in understanding the molecular basis of cancer in companion animals. The comparative animal models have generated remarkable interest in both academia and industry. Studies have demonstrated the utility of comparative oncology in understanding drug resistance and tumor biology, contributing to the translational research[1]. This has yielded breakthrough discoveries, from advanced diagnostics to novel therapies, providing opportunities to improve the longevity and quality of life of the pets. These inputs have led to advancements such as the first conditionally approved chemotherapeutic agent for lymphoma, novel BRAF testing for canine urothelial carcinoma, tyrosine kinase inhibitors for mast cell tumors, updates in stereotactic/FLASH radiation, and novel immunotherapeutics. As the understanding of cancer biology has advanced, the field of veterinary oncology has grown significantly, paralleling developments in human oncology. Veterinary oncologists treat a variety of cancers in domestic animals, particularly dogs and cats, but also in exotic animals, horses, and even zoo animals. While the types of cancers in animals share similarities with human cancers, treatment strategies can differ significantly due to species-specific differences in anatomy, physiology, and response to therapies [2, 3].

AMR is undoubtedly the most serious challenge ever faced by the world health community because of its multifaceted complex nature and its overwhelming impact over the human and veterinary communities. Livestock sector is no exception to have the serious and devastating impact from the emergence and spread of AMR. Because of a steady shift towards intensive farming and increased stocking density there has been increase occurrence of infectious diseases. Growing world population, rapid urbanization, and deforestation, shrinkage of grazing land all aided to this process. This leads to increased usage of antimicrobials in food animals – cause of concern for the scientific community as AMU is known the single most important driver of AMR.

Asiatic Elephant (Elephas maximus) is the national heritage animal of India. This particular species now exists in 13 Asian countries including India. As per 2017 census, India is home to an estimated figure of 29,964 elephants that is >60% wild population of the globe. Once distributed across the country, now they are squeezed to 14 states grouped in four regions ie., southern (14,612), north-eastern (10,139), east-central (3,128) and northern regions (2,085). There are 2675 captive elephants across different states under both private and government custody. This largest terrestrial mammal is protected under Seclude I species of Indian Wild Life Protection Act, 1972.

Both central and state Government are implementing short- and long-term programmes for health and well-being of captive as well as free-range elephants. The Central Government has established an ‘Elephant Cell’ at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun to provide technical inputs to the ministry for strengthening the efforts towards conservation of elephants. Add-on, the ‘Project Elephant’ was launched in 1991-92 in the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to restore the elephant habitats and reduce their sufferings. Elephant habitats are notified as Elephant Reserves that are basic management units for elephant conservation and managements. A total of 33 Elephant Reserves has been notified in the country. A book titled, ‘Caring for elephants: Managing health and welfare in captivity’ is edited for field officers, veterinary professionals and elephant handlers.

Therefore grant of a patent is subject to certain limitations mentioned in the section 3 and 4 of the Indian Patent Act for Indian jurisdiction. I. What is Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is technology which can store, retrieve, manipulate, manufacture, transmit or receive, analyze any digital information and can apply machine vision for increasing efficiency and workability of the system. The AI permits systematically scope of ‘3S’ i.e. Safety, Security and Surveillance, which is also known as manmade intelligence. In fact, it needs more reliable and accurate data or information for processing and correction for predicting performance of any system and devices.

There has been a surge of data in every field of research due to advancements in information technology. Data collection and storage has become much easier and cheaper in recent years. This voluminous data needs to be systematically stored for quick retrieval, process and to find useful patterns. Data mining techniques help in deriving useful patterns from data. These techniques which are also called as machine learning techniques majorly categorized as classification, clustering and association rule mining methods. Classification is a supervised learning method which needs labeled dataset for model building and prediction purposes. Clustering and association rule mining methods do not require labeled dataset and hence they are referred as unsupervised learning methods.

Clustering aims at grouping the objects based on a set of measured variables where similar objects are assigned to one group. For example, let us say, if we have collected information on 50 fish pond parameters (50 variables) and we wish to find the groups in terms of pond management (like well managed to poorly managed), with cluster analysis, we can group the ponds based on pond variables. In the process of clustering, each pond is assigned to one of the groups made. The question is how many natural clusters present in the data as in many cases we would not be getting perfect clusters of disjoint sets. We can achieve better accuracies in cluster formation only by trial and error. Good clustering criteria are to see that there is minimum with-in cluster variations and maximum between cluster variations.

Cluster analysis has several applications in fisheries research. It could be used to group fish stocks from different regions, categorise ponds based on their technical efficiencies, identify the farm clusters with high disease risk, group farmers based on their preferences, agro zoning based on climatic variables and culture practices. Cluster analysis is also applied in fish bioinformatics to group the similar sequences.

The Earth’s atmosphere is a dynamic fluid system, and its behavior is dictated by a complex interplay of physical laws. To truly comprehend weather phenomena, from the smallest updraft to the largest global circulation patterns, one must grasp the underlying atmospheric physics. This includes understanding how energy is transferred, how gases and
water vapor behave, and how forces shape atmospheric motion.
This chapter will delve into these core physical concepts, providing the theoretical bedrock necessary for a deeper appreciation of meteorological processes. Furthermore, accurate and reliable data is the lifeblood of modern meteorology and, by extension, data science applications within the field. Therefore, we will also explore the fundamental principles that underpin the measurement of key atmospheric variables.

Imagine the air around us. Even though we can’t see it, air has weight. Atmospheric pressure is essentially the force exerted by the weight of the air molecules above a particular point on the Earth’s surface.
Think of it like this: Imagine you’re at the bottom of a swimming pool. The water above presses you down, and you feel that pressure. Similarly, the atmosphere, a giant ocean of air, has layers of air molecules, and their weight presses down on everything below, including us.
• Atmospheric pressure is defined as the force per unit area exerted by the weight of the air column extending from the surface of the earth ,to the top of the atmosphere above that area
• It can be explain in simple terms like:
• Air has weight: Just like water or a pile of books, the air surrounding the Earth has mass, and thus, weight due to gravity.
• Weight creates pressure: This weight of the air presses down on the surface. The more air there is above a certain point, the greater the pressure.
• Like a stack: Imagine a stack of blankets. The blanket at the bottom has to support the weight of all the blankets above it, so it experiences more pressure. Similarly, the air at lower altitudes has the weight of all the air above pressing down on it.

Atmospheric temperature refers to the measure of the warmth or coldness of the air at different levels within the Earth’s atmosphere. It’s not a uniform value but varies significantly with altitude and location. More detailed descrption of atmospheric temperature is as follows:
• Different Layers, Different Temperatures: The Earth’s atmosphere is divided into several layers (troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere), and each layer has a distinct temperature profile. For example, the troposphere (where we live and where weather occurs) generally gets colder with increasing altitude, while the stratosphere above it gets warmer due to the absorption of ultraviolet radiation by the ozone layer.
• Surface Temperature: When people talk about the “temperature” in daily life, they usually refer to the temperature of the air near the Earth’s surface, which is measured at meteorological stations.
• Global Average: Climatologists also use the concept of a “global temperature,” which is an average of temperature measurements taken at the surface, near-surface, or in the troposphere across the entire planet.

Augmented designs are useful when a large number of standard varieties or treatments are available for replication but new or promising materials are available only in limited quantities. This chapter introduces augmented designs as modifications of standard experimental designs in which additional, usually unreplicated, entries are incorporated alongside replicated standard treatments. Applications include testing new varieties, seedlings, medicinal plants, growth regulators, seedling carriers, and progeny under forestry and agricultural conditions. Introduction

Avian medicine is a rapidly growing field, with an increasing number of exotic bird species being kept as pets. However, the unique anatomy, physiology, and behaviour of these birds present several challenges as well as new opportunities for veterinarians and researchers.Now a day’s birds are gaining popularity over dogs and cats because of various reasons listed below:

a. They are more suited in present life style as can be suited well in small spaces.

b. They require low maintenance with relative low cost of maintenance and live longer life.

c. They form very strong bonds with their owners.

Birds can be classified into different families, such as Psittaciformes, Passeriformes, Columbiformes, Piciformes, Anseriformes, Galliformes etc. containing numerous species (>10,000). The first documentation of parrot as a pet was found in Rig Veda, written more than 3000 years ago. Evidence of bird keeping is observed in ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, China and Egypt. In Greek mythology, Raven (a crow) was mentioned as a symbol of good luck and was associated with God Apollo (God of prophecy). Crows are also considered as ancestors in Hindu mythology and food (pinda) is offered to crows during ritual of paying homage to dead persons. In most of the countries psittacine and passerine birds are preferred as pet birds.

Abstract

The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool, or BLAST, is an online tool provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) that allows users to search for matches between their query sequences and the sequences stored in NCBI databases. BLAST can be used to search for nucleotide sequences against nucleotide sequences, protein sequences against protein sequences, and protein sequences against translated nucleotide sequences in the databases. BLAST is widely used to study sequence similarity, identify target sequences, analyze the functional aspects of molecular sequences, and investigate evolutionary relationships. This chapter details on the BLAST and its applications.

Soil sampling is an integral and essential component of soil fertility evaluation and nutrient management research. The effectiveness of soil sampling is a prerequisite for soil testing to achieve its goals for efficient nutrient management and plant nutrition for improved yield and quality. The underlying basis for soil sampling is that a soil sample taken represents the “population” which may be a plot, field or a watershed. It further implies that nutrient status of the representative soil sample(s) determined in a laboratory would reflect nutrient status of a plot, field or watershed and is of interest for correcting nutrient disorders in the field or watershed.

The most important factor that influences the effectiveness of soil sampling is soil heterogeneity. However, in a relatively homogenous group of fields or plots, a small number of samples may be sufficient to represent the population to a more heterogenous group of fields that would require more number of samples to represent the soil population. Whenever, soil samples to be taken in field following points needs to be kept in mind.

This chapter is intended to throw light on some statistical and econometric methods used for analysing time series data with specific emphasis on basic concepts related to time series analysis, co-integration techniques as well as forecasting techniques such as ARIMA model. Time series analysis is often helpful in revealing the broad patterns associated with longitudinal data, which in turn would aid in important economic and policy decisions. In fisheries sector too, economic variables such as market demand and supply, prices, etc. are of prime importance and often come in longitudinal format. There are a number of alternative methodologies available in the time series literature to determine relevant parameters pertaining to longitudinal data and the ensuing sections are set apart to delve deeper into this realm.

A random or stochastic process is a collection of random variables ordered in time. A stochastic process is said to be stationary if its mean and variance are constant over time and the value of covariance between two time periods depend only on the distance or the gap between the two time periods and not the actual time at which the covariance is computed. It presents an analytics pipeline covering data ingestion, secure storage, preprocessing, integration, pattern discovery, visualization and clinical decision support. Machine learning and deep learning methods are discussed in relation to clinical phenotyping, risk stratification, predictive epidemiology and adverse-outcome prediction. Presently, in the country, there is a gap in the capability in capturing, processing and analyzing huge source of information generated in Indian agriculture. This task can be accomplished using Big Data Platform which works in cluster mode and provides the capability of handling huge volume of data, capturing streaming data or real time data and also can accommodate unstructured data. As per FAO, 70 percent in increase in food production in another 30 years is required to overcome the increasing global food demand. It may not be possible to achieve that target due to variety of problems such as reduction in land for cultivation, climate change, and various other factors, such as increasing the fish production etc. Improvement in crop genetics, application of fertilizer in higher dosages, irrigation facilities, etc. may not be possible in future. We need to create a big data platform involving important parameters on crop production viz., soil, soil temperature, water requirements, and relative humidity, pests and diseases, and micro and macro nutrients in temporal and spatial. Now, since available data is properly utilized for making valid analytics by the farming community due to certain issues. Even the data created is incompatible, data available from various sources is also not compatible among themselves due to which decision making is also a big challenge. Due to the incompatibility of agricultural data from different sources, farmers do not have the accessibility to vast pool of available information for making effective, efficient and timely decisions.

Big Data in Agriculture (including fisheries)

Big data, an emerging data driven system helps in precision agriculture based on data collected. This helps farmers in making efficient decisions on sowing, planting, fertilizing and various other farm operations including

harvesting crops at the appropriate time. Of late, sensors are placed in the fields to collect data on related parameters viz., soil temperature and moisture relative humidity, wind speed, weather, etc. which help in crop growth. Images obtained using satellites are helpful in monitoring the crop growth during crop period. Agro-produce includes not only yields obtained from crops but also include produce from horticulture, livestock, fisheries, and other systems also. Agriculture is dependent on various parameters such as climate, seed, soil cultivation practices, agronomic practices, irrigation requirement, fertilizers pesticides, weeds, harvesting, post harvesting techniques, etc. Data collected on all these parameters would help in estimation of yield and other relevant parameters. Governments, Universities, Research departments, Agro-business and Agri-input companies generate, maintain and use voluminous data related to various farm management practices and other related issues say insurance marketing, supply chain, packaging, distribution, etc. This voluminous and wide variety of data poses several challenges for making effective decisions. Information on various fish related parameters can be collected from the stakeholders and a big data platform can be developed for effective decision making.
