1. Introduction

They also stress the need for researchers to implement the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—to minimize the use of animals and ensure humane practices in research. This chapter explores the CCSEA guidelines in detail and compares them with animal welfare regulations from around the world, including the United States, European Union, Japan, and Australia. By understanding the similarities and differences between these regulations, researchers and policymakers can ensure the ethical treatment of laboratory animals on a global scale.
2. Objectives of CCSEA Guidelines
The main objective of the CCSEA guidelines is to ensure that laboratory animals are treated ethically and humanely while also supporting the validity and scientific rigor of research. The guidelines encourage researchers to prioritize animal welfare while minimizing unnecessary suffering. Specifically, CCSEA focuses on:
1. Ethical Treatment of Animals: Ensuring that animals are housed in suitable conditions, given adequate veterinary care, and provided with a comfortable environment to reduce stress.
2. Justification of Animal Use: Ensuring that animals are used only when necessary, and that their use is scientifically justified.
3. Pain and Stress Minimization: Ensuring that experimental procedures cause the least pain, distress and suffering possible.

Raman Spectroscopy

It is a spectroscopic technique based on inelastic scattering of monochromatic light, usually from a laser source. Theory

“Small is beautiful”, today we know that small is not only beautiful but also powerful. With the range of applications that nanoparticles find in varied fields of engineering and science, nanoparticles seem a promising option when compared to the conventional materials used. Nanoparticles are particles that have at least one dimension in less than 100nm range. They have a high surface to volume ratio and thus mass transfer and heat transfer properties are better than bulk materials. Recently; core/shell nanoparticles are finding widespread application. There is a class of core/shell nanoparticle that has its entire constituent in the nanometer range. Core/shell nanoparticles are nanostructures that have core made of a material coated with another material. They are in the size range of 20nm-200nm. Also, composite structures with these core/shell particles embedded in a matrix material are in use. The necessity to shift to core/shell nanoparticles is the improvement in the properties. Taking into consideration the size of the nanoparticles, the shell material can be chosen such that the agglomeration of particle can be prevented. This implies that the monodispersity of the particles can be improved. The core/shell structure enhances the thermal and chemical stability of the nanoparticles, improves solubility, makes them less cytotoxic and allows conjugation of other molecules to these particles. Environmental concerns are also prevalent, given the potential toxicity of nanoparticles like zinc oxide and silver nanoparticles, which may disrupt soil microbial communities. Despite these challenges, future prospects for bioinoculants and nanoparticles are promising. Integrating these technologies into sustainable farming practices can reduce the reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, as seen in the use of Azospirillum brasilense encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles to enhance drought tolerance in maize. Furthermore, the application of Pseudomonas putida encapsulated in alginate nanoparticles has effectively mitigated heavy metal stress in tomato plants. Precision agriculture, employing data analytics and remote sensing, can optimize the targeted delivery of bioinoculants and nanoparticles, maximizing crop productivity and nutrient uptake. However, comprehensive in vivo studies are essential to assess long-term efficacy and environmental impact under field conditions. However, the commercialization of microalgal biodiesel has been hampered by various limitations, including low lipid productivity, inefficient harvesting techniques, and high production costs. Nanotechnology, with its ability to manipulate materials at the nanoscale, offers innovative solutions to enhance various stages of microalgal biodiesel production. From cultivation to processing, nanomaterials and nanodevices hold the potential to optimize efficiency, increase yields, and reduce environmental impacts. By improving light penetration, nutrient delivery, and CO2 utilization, nanotechnology-enabled systems enhance microalgal growth and lipid accumulation (Li et al., 2019; Cai et al., 2021b). Moreover, nanoscale structures facilitate the development of efficient harvesting methods, minimizing energy consumption and water usage. In biodiesel processing, nanocatalysts exhibit superior catalytic activity, enabling faster reaction times and higher yields in transesterification processes. Nanostructured membranes enhance the purification and separation of biodiesel, ensuring high-quality end products with minimal impurities. Despite these advancements, challenges such as scalability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability of nanotechnology-based microalgal biodiesel production persist (Zhao et al., 2018; Zhang et al., 2019). This chapter aims to provide an overview of the current status and future prospects of integrating nanotechnology into microalgal biodiesel production. Through a 2 | Nanotools for Microalgal Biodiesel Production comprehensive analysis of recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities, we seek to elucidate the potential of nanotechnology to drive the commercialization and widespread adoption of sustainable microalgal biodiesel. By fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and leveraging emerging technologies, we can pave the way towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

Deep learning enables automated analysis of agricultural images for crop classification, disease detection, weed identification, yield prediction and soil monitoring. This chapter examines Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks and Vision Transformers applied to imagery collected by satellites, drones and ground-based sensors. These models automatically identify patterns and features that conventional methods may overlook. Integration with precision agriculture can improve decision-making, increase crop productivity and reduce resource waste. Challenges include shortages of annotated datasets, limited interpretability and high computational requirements. Transfer learning, data augmentation, edge computing and real-time processing are discussed as approaches for enabling practical deployment in remote and resource-constrained agricultural environments.

Introduction

Flowering plants (Angiosperms) are identified by their morphological characteristics like flower, fruit and seeds that help their taxonomic characterization into different species, genera, families and orders. The floral characters which are used for taxonomic characterization of plants include the type of inflorescences, perianth structure, floral symmetry, arrangement of floral leaves, type of androecium, stamens, gynoecium, carpel, ovule, etc. The type of fruit and seed also play important roles in taxonomic classification. In this chapter we will briefly discuss about various morphological features of flowering plants (in botanical terms) that are useful in taxonomy.

Nomenclature of Plant

Nomenclature of plant is the formal and scientific naming of plants. It is related to but distinct from taxonomy for grouping and classifying plants and provide botanical name.

The scientific/botanical nomenclature started with Species Plantarum by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753. Botanical nomenclature is governed by the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN), which replaces the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN).

ICBN and ICN

International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, (ICBN) was adopted by the VIIth International Botanical Congress held in Stockholm, July1950. While the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) was adopted by the XVIIIth International Botanical Congress held in Melbourne, Australia in July 2011.

Specifications

These structures are generally used for the storing grain in the bags. The length of the structure is about twice the width or greater than that. Special care should be taken to make the side walls, floor and roof in constructing the structure. The walls are made of bricks or stones laid either in lime mortar (1:2) or cement mortar (1:6). The bucket elevator’s capacity mainly depends on bucket size, conveying speed, bucket design and spacing, the way of loading and unloading, the bucket and the characteristic of bulk material.

Bucket elevators with a belt carrier can be used at fairly speeds of 2.5 to 4 m/s. The speed of the belt depends on the head pulley.

If the belt speed is too low, the discharge of the grains become more difficult, with too high speed the buckets are not fed well.

1. Choice of bund

The choice of bund should be selected weather the contour bund or graded bund depends on the annual rainfall, soil condition and types of outlets used.

The procedure in design of contour bund is followed while design a graded bund. A stability of 10-25%, should be given to contour bund. This is called graded bund.

Example: Design a graded bund length of 500 m with an average land slope of 3.5% in a sandy loam soil. Vertical distance between consecutive bund is 2.5 m. Rainfall intensity for the time of concentration and for the recurrence interval is 18.5 cm/hr. The runoff coefficient is 0.3. For stability, the grade provided for first 100 m is 0.1%, for next 200 m is 0.15% and for last 200 m is 0.18%. For the sandy loam soil, side slope of the bund and slope of seepage line are 1.5:1 and 5:1 respectively is assumed.

The shape of open channel is dependent upon the field conditions and types of the construction equipments used.

The common shapes of open channels generally used are (i) Parabolic or semi circular (ii) Triangular (iii) Rectangular and (iv) Trapezoidal section.

The parabolic shape approximates a natural channel. The reason is that in natural course of channel flow, the trapezoidal and triangular sections tend to become in parabolic shape due to deposition of sediments and bank erosion.

Theory

Elevation factor (F_elev)

Elevation factor is directly proportional to the elevation. The values of elevation factors, used to correct the rate of air removal for a particular elevation. The rate of air removal from the greenhouse increase as the elevation of the greenhouse site increases.

Theory

Heat required for heating greenhouses is based on the quantity of heat lost through different structural components of greenhouses per unit time. Shapes of greenhouse (A-frame and quonset) and structural components (roof, wall, gable, curtain wall, curved covering and end) are mainly influencing the calculation of heat requirement. The amount of heat lost from a greenhouse depends on glazing materials, exposed surface area of the house, inside desired temperature, outside existing temperature, wind speed, and condition of house (old, new, tight or loose). The outside temperature should be based on the lowest average expected temperature during the heating season.

The screw conveyor consists of screw blade, screw shaft, coupling, tubular trough, cover, inlet and outlet gates, bearings and drive mechanism.

A shaft with spiral screw revolves in the tubular trough. The screw shaft is supported by end and hanger bearings. The rotation of screw pushes the grain along the trough.

The screw blade or flight is a continuous one-piece helix, shaped from a flat strip of steel welded on to the shaft.

The screw shaft is usually a joint less tube with thick sides and a high tensile strength to reduce the weight.

The structure behaves as a deep or shallow bin depending upon its relative dimensions such as depth and diameter or width. It is decided from the concept of the plane of rupture.

Plane of rupture: The plane of rupture is that surface down which a wedge of material bounded by one wall face, the free surface, and the plane of rupture would start sliding if bounding wall were to move.

Introduction

Spoilage in agricultural products due to mould growth can occur at various stages of production and storage and is significant in terms of trade economics, food safety and public health (Shephard, 2008). It has been reported that 5–10 % of agricultural products in the world are spoiled by mould contamination to the extent that they cannot be consumed by humans or animals. Mould growth decreases the quality of food and also creates a potential risk for human health because of the production of toxic secondary metabolites known as “mycotoxins”. Foods contaminated by mycotoxins, when consumed by humans and animals causes a disease called “mycotoxicosis”, resulting in death (Wagacha and Muthomi, 2008).

Abstract

Training is essential but expensive. Hence, training impact is a crucial measure. National Agricultural Research System (NARS), India employs about 30000 scientists. To effectively manage such huge scientific-capital, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) establishedCentres for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) and National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM). CAFT train faculty of State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), while NAARM trains scientists of ICAR institutes and SAUs. Assessing impact of these training programmes becomes essential. Application of knowledge, skills and attitude (KSA) acquired during training back at job environment is training-transfer that addresses learning, behaviour and results levels of training impact. This chapter critically analyses training-transfer of NAARM and CAFT programmes, suggests empirical framework to enhance impact of NAARM and CAFT programmes and thus contributes to literature. Policy strategies suggested in this paper hold wider applicability.

Plane table survey

Plane table surveying is a simple method of surveying for determination of area of field. The plane table survey is quite suitable for plotting small-scale and medium scale mappings directly in the field where great accuracy is not required. It is also used for plotting the topographical maps in the field. The plane table survey is generally more rapid and less costly than other types of survey.

In this survey, a plane table is used for taking the measurements and for plotting the plan in the field. Plane table surveying is a method in which the field observations and plotting of the plan proceed simultaneously. The plotted map can be compared with the actual features in the field. Errors in measurements and plotting can be easily detected in the field by taking suitable check lines.
