Our emotions play quite a significant role in guiding and directing our behavior. Many a times they are seen to dominate our behavior in such a way that we have no solution other than behaving as per their wish. On the other hand, if a person has no emotional current then he becomes crippled in terms of living his life in a normal way. Hence, emotions play a key role in providing a particular direction to our behavior and thus shaping our personality according to their development.

Etymologically, the word emotion is derived from the Latin word ‘emovere’ which means ‘to stir up’ or ‘to excite’. Emotion implies a state of being stirred up or aroused in one way or another. Therefore, emotion may be understood as an agitated or excited state of our mind and body. It involves extensive visual disturbance and includes many feeling tones or varying degrees of satisfaction or annoyance. Feeling may be a simple degree of emotional experience. Psychologists and physiologists are in agreement that emotion involves feelings, impulses and physiological reactions.

Thus, whatever may be the terminology used by different psychologists, their definition tends to describe “emotions as some sort of feelings or affective experiences which are characterized by some physiological changes that generally lead them to perform some or the other type of behavioral act”.

1. Introduction

Anybody can become angry-that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way-that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.

The word emotion is derived from the French word, “emouvoir” which means ‘to excite’. Researchers have been interested in emotions since time immemorial. One of the earliest reported studies on emotions was attempted by Aristotle in 4th Century BC wherein he identified 14 distinct emotions. The traditional Indian art and literature talks about ‘navarasas’, nine emotions namely, joy (hasya), fear (bhayanaka), anger (raudra), love (shringar), courage (vira), sadness (karuna), amazement (adbhuta), disgust (vibhatsya) and calmness (shanti). Darwin (1872) theorized that emotions can be innate, evolved, and had a functional purpose. Robert Plutchik in 1980 talked about eight basic emotions, which he grouped into four pairs of polar opposites namely, joy-sadness, anger-fear, trust-distrust, surprise-anticipation. Renowned psychologist Paul Ekman and his colleagues through a cross cultural study in 1992 identified six basic emotions namely, anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, and surprise. The popular animation movie produced by Pixar and released by Disney pictures in the year 2015,explored the emotional adjustment journey of a girl Riley, through the five basic emotions, anger, disgust, fear, happiness, and sadness, adapted from Ekman’s work. In a recent study by Cowen and Keltner (2017) researchers identified 27 unique emotions. In yet another study to identify emotions based on facial expressions irrespective of sociocultural influences by Jack et al. (2016) just four emotions, happiness, sadness, anger and fear were recognized.

Emotional well-being is one of the most important dimensions of psychological well-being and mental health. Here an effort is being made to study the concept of emotional wellbeing. The concept of emotional well-being has acquired more importance in the field of health and positive psychology these days. It is much more concerned with mental and emotional health.

Emotional well-being, which is considered as the quality and subjective satisfaction of life is a measure of an individual’s perceived level of happiness. It is also related to self-concept. However, there is the relationship between self-concept with emotional well-being. But emotional health is related to emotional well-being, which is a part of mental health. Usually emotionally intelligent people represent better ability for problem-solving and for managing stress, more impulse control and a positive attitude towards oneself and others implying greater enjoyment of life, resulting in emotional well-being.

Emotional health depends upon a man’s emotional wellbeing, which is based on our self-concept, and self-esteem, that is how we feel about ourselves and behavior which is appropriate and healthy.

The present study sought to empirically examine the perceived effects of contract farming on employment generation and poverty reduction. This was achieved by operationalising the construct through its technical, economic and social dimensions. Furthermore, the study explored relational linkages between the perceived effects of contract farming and the socio-economic attributes of farmers in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
Distribution of respondents according to Age (X01), n=100
Interpretation: The obtained results reveal that the overall age ranges from 23 to 54 years, with a mean of 40.63 years and a standard deviation of 08.05. The coefficient of variation (C.V.) was 19.81%, indicating a relatively high level of uniformity in the age profile. A majority of respondents (62.00%) were middle-aged (34-49 years), followed by young farmers (23.00%) and a smaller proportion of older farmers (15.00%).
This suggests that the study area is predominantly characterised by young and middle-aged farmers. the relevance of age in contract farming is noteworthy, as active participation requires physical involvement, frequent training on modern farming practices and regular interactions with company representatives and vendors for input supply and technical guidance. Consequently, older farmers, often accustomed to traditional practices, may display relatively lower interest in contractual arrangements.
Distribution of respondents according to education (X02), n=100
Interpretation: The educational status of respondents ranged from a score of 02 to 17, with a mean of 08.47 and a standard deviation of 03.18. The relatively high coefficient of variation (37.54%) indicates lower consistency in educational attainment. A vast majority (75.00%) fell within the medium educational category, while 21.00 % had low education and only 04.00% possessed higher education. This indicates that the farming population is largely dominated by low to moderately educated farmers. Reduced price volatility and stability for the market are generally a result of increased yield of crop(x12) when supply is more balanced. By providing higher yields, an increase in product delivery can be had, thereby delivering a more sustainable and predictable source that helps to keep supply and demand balanced. This lowers market volatility, creates a more stable pricing environment and reduces risk for both producers (and end buyers). Elevated or variable farming expenses or cost of cultivation(x13) may contribute to market uncertainty by impacting farmers’ earnings and shaping their choices on yield. Unpredictable expenses make it challenging to project financial results, which causes pricing volatility and inconsistent supply levels. This pricing and production volatility adds to the general unpredictability of the market.
A rise in on-farm income(x14) gives farmers greater financial stability and resources, which enables them to better manage risks and schedule production for the future. An agricultural product supply that is more predictable is facilitated by this consistency. As a result, lesser income volatility corresponds to lower overall market uncertainty and steadier prices.

This chapter analytically represents the results of the empirical research study with the appropriate discussion on the basis of analysis.

6.1. Results of data collected from moringa growers of Tamil Nadu

The mean value of cultivated land holding of the respondents is 0.77 with standard deviation of 0.30. The distribution of the variable is fairly consistent with a CV value of 38.83 per cent.

Job enrichment is also a motivational problem created by the alienation of employees from their work, or by lack of their interest in their work. Here the problem is how to make the work more interesting, purposeful and acceptable to employees so that they may perform it more enthusiastically and with a greater sense of responsibility. Key strategies include nurturing FPOs through competency development, resource pooling, and collaborations with institutions and private players. Introduction Agricultural sector is the pillar of the Indian economy. It provides employment to around half of the workforce of the country and contributes around 18 per cent to the gross value added of the country. Small and marginal landholdings, constituting less than 2 hectares, make up a significant 85 percent of India’s farming community (Joshi, 2022). These small farmers encounter various challenges, including farm-specific and household transaction costs that limit their participation in input and product markets. With changing food preferences driven by income and population growth, there’s a growing need for small-farm commercialization to meet the rising demand for diversified, higher-quality diets (Chakraborty, 2020). To address the constraints faced by small farms, aggregation models have emerged as institutional interventions.
