Character is the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing. An individual's personality is the combination of traits and patterns that influence their behaviour, thought, motivation, and emotion. It drives individuals to consistently think, feel, and behave in specific ways; in essence, it is what makes each individual unique. By definition, moral character is the existence of virtues such as integrity, courage, fortitude, honesty and loyalty. In other words, it means that you're a good person and a good citizen with a sound moral compass. School is the place where character building process is initiated. It is also a place where a foundation can be built for becoming upstanding adults. Every school should set a tone of respect, honesty and genuine kindness for all students. Character building is based on six pillars – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship and all of these can be filled in a child only through adequate education. These values automatically make them self-sufficient from all respect to face the challenges of life and contribute to society in some positive way. Taking steps to build your character is no simple task. People notice those who do what is right over what is easy. It can be easy to slack off when nobody is looking and difficult to do what is right on a consistent basis. There are five ways to build your character:It has been said that character can be measured by what one would do if no one were looking. True character is instilled at a deep level so that positive behaviour is automatic. The Josephson Institute of Ethics defines the main six pillars of character to include: trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, caring, fairness and citizenship and three more courage, diligence, and integrity are also sometimes included.
