In one way or the other, we all are asked to express our opinions. As social beings, we also wish to share our take on the issue being discussed at certain stances. But, fear incorporates our thinking, and even after having a lot to say, we are unable to comprehend our thoughts and share them with everyone.
In today's class we discussed ways to convey our opinions. We learned the Tripartite structure of expressing an opinion, stating reasons for holding the same, and concluding our opinion. We also note how speakers should speak in a moderate pitch and confident tone while expressing opinions. Points should not be exaggerated and but should be concise and straightforward language should be used. Different phrases like I think, If you ask me are used to express personal opinions. At the same time, it seems like, many believe that, it is widely accepted are some phrases that are used to express a general opinion about a thing or activity.
Conjunctions like as, because, moreover can be used to list reasons for holding an opinion, and phrases like to sum up, to conclude are used to conclude your opinion. You can also put forward a question asking the listener for his/her take on the expressed opinion. In the second segment of the session, we discussed how to change our words into action and plan something. Three simple stages of planning: having a goal, listing tasks, and tracking actions to achieve success are discussed to facilitate your future planning.
