The Undergraduate Programme in Sericulture is designed as per the ICAR Sixth Deans’ Committee recommendations and NEP 2020, integrating foundational knowledge with practical exposure, skill development and experiential learning. Sericulture covers the complete silk production chain, including host-plant cultivation, silkworm rearing, cocoon production, reeling and processing.
The four-year programme comprises 178 credits, including 168 university credits and 10 credits of online courses. The first two years emphasize skill enhancement, fundamental courses and hands-on training, while the third and fourth years provide advanced and specialized knowledge.
The programme follows a multiple-entry and multiple-exit structure, offering a UG Certificate after the first year, UG Diploma after the second year, and B.Sc. (Hons.) Sericulture after four years, subject to prescribed coursework and internships.
Students receive opportunities for industry attachments, exposure visits, study tours, electives, online courses, Student READY activities, experiential learning and project work, preparing them for employment, research, consultancy and entrepreneurship in the sericulture sector.
